ganusi: I am a student in the UK and applied for my wife and kids visit visa, which was refused in Dec. 2006. I lodged an appeal and just got the decision on July 17, 2007 that " the appeal was allowed"? Does any one know what should I do next to get my family with me? Is the ECO or the local UK, HC will call my family to issue them visa or should they apply again with the passports? I also have a new addition in my family, can I apply for my new born baby who is now 6 months old at the same time !!!! Please advise ASAP, any help will be highly appreciated.
Thanks and best regards, The HC will call your family and request for their passports to issue the visas. They do not need to apply or pay visa fees again. However, they could drop off copies of the determination at the HC gate and they may be called quicker than normal. For you new born baby, I would suggest that you get the visa for your wife and other kids issued first and then apply immediately afterwards for the baby. |
Politics › Re: Are We Trading Away Our Nigerian Identities? by Tats(m): 11:28pm On Aug 26, 2007 |
This thread like all its 'brothers' and 'sisters' with similar lines of discussions/argument seem to be appearing in nairaland and changing its title like a chameleon changes its colour (Trade identity to foreign land, Diasporans pack shit, internet war fight - NINs vs NIDs, loose your Nigerian nationality, e.t.c.). I am rather certain that I cannot continue to engage in them except they are well conceived, rational and makes sense to me As for me, if you are not satisfied with your work or living overseas, go home. if you are not satisfied with same in Nigeria, change base! Life is not too complicated. Hundreds of thousands of British nationals live in foreign countries such as Australia, New Zealand, Spain, Canada, e.t.c and continue to move there everyday. So what the fuss about living in another country? Take a look at these: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/6161705.stmhttp://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/6210358.stm. |

Its easy to say "why not brush over the thread and not bother about it".
Certainly, we are all in Nairaland to discuss and learn things. It does appear to me that the experience is having no impact on some of us in anyway.
See the title of this thread:
Re: Abroad? What Do You Do There? Lets See What The Loud Mouths On Nland Do Abroad.
And you expect it not to generate any controversy. I guess you have seen the extensive debates on other threads regarding the perception of the type of work done by Diasporans. It could do the poster no harm by casually asking people abroad what they do rather than including insulting phrases, or posting such comments as "I have taken a general look and found out that the so called Diasporic Nigerians make so much noise. |
Politics › Re: Nigerian Police Force Is Under Equipped/funded To Curtail The Incesant Robbery by Tats(m): 9:55pm On Aug 23, 2007 |
The police force is grossly underfunded and policemen are underpaid. If they were well paid, most of them will not be corrupt. No man will want to compromise his dignity for a penny unless forced to as a result of difficulties in earning a living. Most policemen are demotivated by their salaries and the compensation that have seen paid to families of their colleagues when they loose their lives in active service. They are also ill-equipped and not properly trained to tackle crime in the society. Some policemen earn as little as N12k. Even the little funds that are allocated to them get pocketed by the top brass in the Police. Unless these issues are addressed, there will be no improvements in the police force. |

Paw-Paw: I can't wait for you to back-off. Carry go ja re. Shango is the only one making sense and telling it like it is. For your information, Shango lives in America so have first hand knowledge of the menial jobs Nigerians are renowned for. Am a living proof you can be wealthy without going abroad to do shit. If you're frustrated with your job, pack it up and return to Nigeria. Shebi na we force you go America go do that job. We will continue to expose the job you people do, to warn young people of what to expect. If Shango's circle of friends in America are the ones that do menial jobs, then good for him. Let him change his circle of friends to those that are professionals and business owners. Are you the only wealthy person in Nigeria? Has anyone said that there are no wealthy people in Nigeria? Some NIDs do not need 50 members of staff to make the kind of money you claim to make. They make it all alone without flaunting it! Now tell me, do you compensate your staff well or pocket all the money you make from your supposed business? |
Travel › Re: Is this truly happening in Canada? by Tats(m): 8:53am On Aug 21, 2007 |
babasin: thats about 56,000$ per annum.
Then its is foolish to run away abroad.
You know what, not many people earn that abroad, plus they pay about 30% tax. Earning $56,000 in Nigeria in a professional job means that there is the potential to earn near double that amount in similar jobs overseas. It does happen! Note that such an individual in Nigeria definitely has several years experience. igbonla: $56,000 is peanuts my friend! I don't know what profession you are in but you can research what consultant corrosion engineers earn and let me know; this is not an entry level position.
There is no need for argument over what somebody is leaving behind when relocating, as there are other considerations for such decision. Believe me, I will take lower pay to be closer home if I have the opportunity. I can not over emphasise that people relocate for different reasons. |

shango: And rereading the first couple of pages in the thread I posted about Nigerian Citizenship thread, it hit me how elitist Nigerians in Diaspora really are. There are people in Nigeria 100 times smarter than me, that choose to stay in Nigeria and struggle through living daily life in Naija. It seems most people that find their way to the West, have a "better than thou" attitude like somehow being in the West puts you at an advantage or makes you smarter than your brethren still in the motherland. Again I will argue it requires more smarts and strength of character to carve out a living in Nigeria and some may argue coming to the West is actually taking the easy way out (some not I though). You guys like me here in the States or other Western countries, please, stop the looking down of those back home. They are not stupid or lesser than us and you are not a genius or smart alek for finding your way to the West. Even Mexican Laborers with no education can make it to the USA and carve a living and make enough money to get a lease on that Benz or Audi that you snap pictures of and send back home to give the illusion that you are living it up in the states. Where in the various posts on this thread have you seen where a NID categorically mentioned that He or She is better that the NINs? Dont create what is not existing. This thread is all about yabbing our various means of livelihood irrespective of where we live and most of these career presumptions are not true anyway. This is purely an internet affair and most of us (both NINs and NIDs) would be suprised if we met each other or knew what we did for a living. For your information, many of us have also worked in Nigeria and know the challenges of living and working in both environments. Life is not without its challenges. Nobody is claiming to be a smart alec here or posing. We are just discussing the social conditions of where live. |

Babyosisi, nice update.
Who else in the NID camp I miss? You all are doing a great job, keeping us informed.
Don't hesitate to let us(NIDs) know if we need to contribute our "shit" allowance to the group. You know, God loves a cheerful giver.
