Mcleo007: Same can't be said of a country like ours. Some or even all these ideas would have been dead upon conception alone. The mere thought of them and the baseless underlines of the society alone is a dream killer. Little wonder Nollywood movies are never creative nor explorative. Such a shame! How will it do well in Nigeria when the first reaction we get from Nigerians is "How does it affect the price of garri in the market?" Many Nigerians lack imagination. |
petaling: So you can't make your point without insulting others. Nobody said they shouldn't make profit but Google has proved is still possible to sell these products with low margin and still stay afloat. The case of NEXUS 7, and other products are good example for us. Does this mean Google and Asus do not have R&Using Google's Nexus devices to buttress your arguments is a shamefully poor strategy. The Nexus devices are sold at cost to drag more people into the Android ecosystem where Google makes more money from ads etc. I would imagine the makers of the Nexus devices receive a payment from Google to make some profit off them. Do you really think the components of a new Honda Accord costs $20,000? |
1supremo: Rule your world!! Glo with pride!!!Shamefully poor upload speeds and high ping rate will give issues with online gaming. |
No price, and he won't answer his calls. I guess at this point you could keep your device. |
Kai, such imbecility on display here $154 is the price for the materials used. What of the manufacturing and assembly costs? What of the Research and Development, months of prototyping, payment of staff salaries? What about shipping costs to markets? What about support and software development? Abeg you m0r0nic people should not let an outsider come and see this display of doltishness here o! If not, dem go give una $200 and tell you to assemble your own Galaxy S III. Ganys: OMG!!!The greatest criminal would be you. All that money your folks spent on your education and still you can't apply basic logic ![]() |
nku5: I am very happy you dont condone tribalism. My take is you have been convinced by the arguments of the author, many igbo people reading through have reservations about it for obvious reasons. The author without a doubt says it was an "igbo" coup and unless i'm wrong that is a generalisation because he didnt specify that there was a difference between igbo coup plotters and the igbo race. Innocent igbos died in their tens of thousands before the first shot of the war was fired in progroms in 1966 because of these sort of generalisations and as the neutral man you say you are, there is a moral obligation to make this point clear no matter who is speaking igbo or not.I am happy you understand where I'm coming from. I am also quite shocked that you say you did not see any concrete facts therein. He quotes Azikiwe and Nwakanma. He provides excerpts from confidential US diplomatic cables. He shows that Achebe's account of meeting that foreign head of state cannot possibly be factual. He punctures Achebe's attempts to dissociate Nzeogwu from the Igbo tribe. He shows how Achebe highlights Igbo suffering and glosses over the suffering of others. There ARE concrete facts in his article. |
Dear GEJ, are you aware that by pandering to the wishes of these ex-militants and paying them big sums, not only have you denied the families of the folks they killed justice, you're spitting in their faces by rewarding the killers and leaving the bereaved families to suffer. You're buying blood peace! |
kramer: Ogbeni yii! Park your legedez benz and read my comment again.See this unrepentant mums. These guys have shown over and over again their ability to intercept missiles at Mach 5 and you're here doubting their ability to hit a fairly sizable bit of rock. Olodo |
nku5: Interesting you would call dede1 out for generalisation when other tribes, yorubas especially slag off on igbos day in day out. This thread is bursting at the seams with generalisations, this site is full of such.I despise and abhor tribalism and ethnic bias...I thank God that I come from a 'minority' tribe so I don't have to take sides in this inanity. However, i am firmly convinced that 99% of the other posters here are making these jibes good-naturedly. Many of these yoruba guys here have igbo girlfriends and vice versa for some of our outspoken Igbo brothers. However, there are a few here that i'm 100% convinced are dead serious in their hatred. Dede1 is the most prominent of these. I will stand against such people...and for now, he will suffice as the face of generational hatred on Nairaland. I'm taking no sides here. I find Damola's arguments to be quite convincing and if my challenges towards my Igbo brothers here will make their attempts at rebuttals lean more towards logic than insults, all the better. nku5: In a related way isn't the "igbo coup" you all are battling hard to prove, a generalisation? How the heck is this a 'generalization' or a stereotype (the word i used)? Did I say "all Igbos are coup plotters"? From the events of that day, the casualties recorded and the key members of the plot, holding a position that the coup was 'Igbo led' or 'had an igbo supremacist agenda' may not be far-fetched. These refer to the coup plotters and not every man, woman and child of Igbo extraction. |
Dede1: I usually do not respond to junks written by characters such as Richard Akinjide but since you seek the truth, Akinjide is one reason people hold Yoruba in contempt. The reason why i hold YOU in contempt is because you have never truly grown up. You're an old man, older than many people in this forum and still you have never learnt the basic lesson that any mature person must learn: You cannot use one man or group of men to stereotype an entire group of people! |
Dede1: Honestly speaking, if there is anybody babbling about anything or grasping for air on this discussion, it is you. There is nothing of intellectual discussion about the crap written by Damola Awoyokun in response to Achebe’s memoir about Nigeria\Biafra civil war.I love how you use the word 'Shamed' to refer to holes exposed in Omoigui's prose yet refrain from any form of condemnation for any of the other gaping holes exposed in Achebe's book. Should Achebe now be 'shamed' since investigation from non-aligned 3rd parties like the UN failed to turn up any evidence of a massacre of nuns in Abakiliki? While you castigate Damola for his stories about Okigbo's involvement in gun running, did you miss the part where he stated his source was Mr. Obi Nwakanma, a well-known IGBO columnist? You say Damola is lying about reprisal killing of Northerners...yet in your blind fury you do not realize he is quoting Dr Nnamdi Azikiwe, an Igbo son who achieved much more lofty heights than your beloved Achebe? I am waiting for your rejoinder towards Zik and Obi Nwakanma ![]() |
GAR3TH: The point of a presidential ticket is to choose the candidates with the best skills, knowledge, experience and accolades that will lead the country to prosperity. Citing Buhari just because he is popular makes no sense, especially when you have other candidates in the party that have better leadership skills and have a recorded of good governance and development. Buhari is obsolete so it puzzles me why people keep mentioning him when there are better candidates. Mentioning Buhari just makes APC look desperate to take over power. they rather win based on popularity rather than performance, WHICH IS THE EXACT SAME THING PDP IS CURRENTLY DOING!!!!!!!1No. The point of a Presidential candidate is to get someone who can actually win votes and elections. What were GEJ's achievements before he ran in 2011? Certainly not his utterly unremarkable stint as a deputy Gov, Governor and Vice President. You're so naive, it's amusing. |
Dede1: Staff Sergeant Jim Yawa, I am really disappointed in reading about your plight and those of your colleagues. Nigeria is a noted misplaced priority and will continue to be so until something is done. However, you should voice your complaints against those rats that conscripted you at 19 years of age to fight the civil war.How old were those boys that were recruited into action by the Biafran high command? 15? 16? Sadly, most of them were rewarded by death and disability by leaders who kept them in the field, fighting even when the situation was clearly hopeless. |
What has this got to do with the FG? A consortium of private investors have banded together to sell the idea of a mega hospital to the FG. The headline makes it look as if this is the doing of the FG. See the first few responders already allocating praise to the GEJ administration. Nigerians sha! |
GAR3TH: Can someone explain to me how Buhari is even relevant? I can name 10 politicians in APC that will be better candidates to contest than Buhari. I still dont understand why people are shouting Buhari when in reality, compared to the field, he is irrelevant and he's accolades are nonexistent compared to his peersIf someone needs to explain to you just how popular Buhari is in the North (especially among the teeming masses) then you know nothing about Nigerian politics. |
Dede1: I suggest you shut up your putrid mouth. I have not seen or read any sensible rebuttal to Achebe’s memoir about the civil war. It is even funny that most of the noise generated by the book came from loudmouthed ingrates who were not in Biafra. Achebe’s book centered on his experiences of the civil war and what happened in Biafra. Instead of learning from the book, most moronic dingbats chose to spew craps cull from conjures assembled by hack writer such as Nowa Omoigui. We may as well take all our learnings on World War II from the memoirs of the members of the German High Command. The OP does not dispute that Achebe was in the Biafran war. He's just saying his books has several items that are not factual and is colored heavily by his previously hidden trait of an ethnic bigot. Please learn to separate the man from his achievements. He is an excellent writer and a world renowned literature expert. His famous books have rightly earned him a lot of accolades. His antipathy towards corruption is exemplary. However his clearly Igbo Supremacist agenda is disgusting to the extreme to me and many others. That is where we stand in this matter! Instead of babbling about Nowa Omoigui, why don't you tackle the remaining 95% of the write up that didn't reference Mr Omoigui? Are we supposed to believe the words of a clearly Biased Achebe over the dispassionate and unbiased US embassy reports? |
ACM10: The reason why the eastern leadership escaped the coup had been overflogged. The coupist did a poor job in the east and lost their element of surprise. I'm surprised that this so-called Damola is indirectly branding the coup an Igbo agenda. As someone said earlier, you don't find it suspicious or even curious that only the portion of the coup against the South East leadership was 'badly executed'? Either way, it matters not what happened in the execution. Bottom line was the SE leaders escaped murder while prominent and revered leaders from other regions were slaughtered...and that had a profound influence on the behavior of many Northerners. Surely even you can see this. ACM10: Mr. Damola, how many coups took place in Nigeria before the Jan. coup? Remember that Nzeogwu was convinced to hand over the troops under his control to Ironsi. Common sense should have told you that executing Nzeogwu would have triggered a violent revolt in the army.I think your problem is with comprehending written English. 'Common practice' does not neccessarily mean it must have happened in Nigeria. There had been many cases of coups in several other countries in the world...and in all armies the punishment for treason against the commander-in-chief of the Armed forces is always extremely severe and often death. ACM10: Point of correction! Awolowo was imprisoned of treasonable felony for conspiring to overthrow a duly elected government. He was tried in a civilian court of law and found guilty.A cursory look at your dictionary will tell you that 'conspiring to overthrow a Government' is an accepted meaning for the word 'sedition' that Damola used. se·di·tion [si-dish-uhn] noun 1. incitement of discontent or rebellion against a government. 2. any action, especially in speech or writing, promoting such discontent or rebellion. No offense meant, but what school did you graduate from? Your mastery of English language is suspect. ACM10: I expect more from my intelligent friend. Where did the normal practice assertion come from? Convicts were sent to random prisons. Region had nothing to do with it.No suspicion or raised eyebrows from you that the random 'posting' to prisons favored only the fellow from the SE? ACM10: Evidence pls?! I have low tolerance for fantasies. So while you demand 'evidence' for the very plausible claim by the OP that Nzeogwu was training recruits for the Biafran army, you happily cling to unsubstantiated claims that Ojukwu had a hand in Nzeogwu's death. More importantly, once again you display your shameful failings in comprehending written English. The OP was making a case that Nzeogwu who Achebe tries to dismiss as an 'Igbo in name only' was fully allied with Biafra. Whether Ojukwu had a role in his death or not, the FACT is that Kaduna Nzeogwu was killed in action fighting for Biafra. That was the point Damola was trying to make and your jibe about 'Yoruba Analysts' has nothing to do with anything. Damola's point is that the man fought and died for Biafra. Your rebuttal to that point is a resounding failure and a red herring. ACM10: Why were these names part of an Igbo coup? The OP indicates the coup was led by officers from the South East. I don't think anyone has ever insinuated that everyone of the coup plotters were South Easterners. Also worth noting that Victor Banjo's name should probably not be on that list as unlike the others, he always proclaimed his innocence. Either way, that scarcely matters. In summary your 'rebuttal' showed nowhere near the level of wit and research that the OP displayed in his critique of Achebe's book. More worryingly, either from mischief or from plain challenges with English, you seem to have completely misconstrued many of Damola's words. Nowhere is this disappointing trait more evident in this your response to where the OP said Five, during the Aburi negotiations, why was full reprieve for the coup plotters put on the table? ACM10: We are learning everyday. I would want to get the names of those who sat on the negotiating table with Ojukwu? I knew that Ojukwu was at the table with his secretary, while Gowon came with all his top government functionries. The term 'full reprieve for the coup plotters put on the table' does not mean that the coup plotters sat down at the table ![]() |
7842I: Another characteristic of democracy is freedom, the elected should not be forced to make public announcements especially where he feels the announcement will cause social tension or a breakdown of law and order. So you don't think keeping quiet about his condition and allowing rumors to spread caused more social tension or breakdown of law and order? For goodness sake, man, there was a rumor the man was dead. It swept through the streets of Enugu like wildfire. You think that did not cause 'social tension'? You claim the Governor did not owe anyone any explanation because he 'handed over to the Speaker'. Was the Speaker elected by the people of Enugu to lead the state? It isn't too late to repent of this foolishness o! |
Freewilly: Even the hungry forest vultures in the evil forest won't come close to his filthy offemmanu caucus. I'm just saying ohhhh!! No offense. At your advanced age, you can't spell 'carcass'?! You need Jesus. |
I'm sorry but all this talk about someone being immune to criticism becasuse he's 'well known' and 'famous' are pure bunkum and the proponents of this imbecilic viewpoint should be ashamed of themselves. Hitler's 'mein Kampf' sold millions...and hitler will always be more well known than everyone on this forum combined. Does that make the content of his hate-filled book unimpeachable? Let the intelligent ones provide rebuttals. Those who denounce without reading have shown the world their level of ignorance. |
profola2be: So,it is this 3 journalist that now turn to Boko Haram, abi?See this dolt! Have you ever seen a Polio victim before? Have you seen the horrific deformities? We are desperately trying to eradicate this disease and you're speaking in support of People whose words may likely have trivialized efforts to overcome it...and put the lives of the vaccinators in danger. They are not the killers...but they have a role in motivating the killers to act. |
I fully support the arrest of these journalists. Lose lips sink ships...people must learn to watch what they say. |
How wrong you all were ![]() |
agabaI23: Most of you never believed the SE will pass the group stage. If you give GEJ credit for Super Eagles, then he must also take ALL the blame for Boko Haram and Polio resurgence. Fair enough? |
kaeto: you are inept and also inert at comprehensive reading, learn to read inbetween lines. The project commenced in 2006, and was subjected to 4years stagnance due, particularly, to financial delay (even with the disbursement of $16B by the obj administration) so in 2010, when GEJ came to power, from the scratch the project has neared completion and would be ready by march this year. Please let's not bury our conscience with politicks and tribalism and give credit when due, thanks. The article only stated that the project was delayed due to technical and financial constraints. What was there for the fellow to 'comprehend' apart from this? Where does the article say the project 'stagnated for 4 years'? Where does it say it 'started from scratch' with the coming of the GEJ presidency? If you cannot provide further evidence/sources to back up your additional claims, I'm afraid his initial point stands and you should STFU. Learn to use common sense. No amount of 'reading between lines' will add the additional information you're posting here. |
MEILYN: why will sum1 resign from doing Gods Work? Did Abraham Resign? Na wa oo,Catholic don turn to public office where ppl come nd resign..........av neva been a fan of Catholics thoughHe is NOT resigning from doing God's work. Every true Christian does God's work until he dies. This. The issue I have with you fake Christians . You revere your MOGs like God and assume its only God's work when you jet around In a private jet and hold crusades. Read your Bible. Every visit you make to an Orphanage as a Christian does as much work for God as any Daddy GO that holds an all night prayer vigil. |
In Nigeria, it is legal for an 80 year old man to forcibly marry and copulate with a 12 year old girl. CAN, Nigerian Christians sit idly by and say nothing. Senators say nothing. In Nigeria, it is legal for middle aged women to gang up and use razor blade to mutilate the genitals of a baby girl. CAN, Nigerian Christians and Senators say nothing. However, if two consenting adults decide to do what they want behind close doors, the entire Nigerian populace rises up and starts spitting fire and brimstone. Hypocrites. Pastors, Senators, all of you. I will NEVER be tempted to carry out homosexual acts, but when ADULTS are being discussed, Salvation is personal and Live and let live! |
mu2sa2: Employing somebody else to care for your child is wickedness - a child should be cared for, nurtured and brought up by his/her father and mother. The id1ocy is strong in this one... |
toluene12: possession of hard drugs is illegal in Nigeria, it's a punishable crime. If you seriously think students were offered a choice of rehab or expulsion and they chose expulsion, I think you may have just swindled you parents of the money they spent on your education. You're being told clearly by the school authorities that the students were not even told what drug they tested positive for, yet you believe someone offered them 'rehab'. How the heck do you offer someone rehab when there is no disclosure of the drug taken? Kai, this your daftness is epic sha. |
Lord have mercy!! This just goes to show that sometimes, we as parents - mothers especially, need to think long and hard on whether rushing back to work really is the best option. It's not always about money. Getting the right balance is what matters the most. That mother should thank her lucky stars. It could easily have been a very different story.
Don't be daft. the baby is 5 months old, which makes her mum well outside the usual maternity leave window in most places of work. If all women quit their jobs as soon as they got pregnant, where would women be today? Which employer will employ any woman in her twenties and early thirties? I love how you housewives try desperately to spin any story that features any working mother into a tale of negligence. |
Freewilly: Why are Fulani even allowed to walk around freely in Enugu ?You may think you've just said something funny, but you're too dense to realize that this same mentality is what is causing the deaths of your brothers in the North. When one almajiri thinks "Why are Igbo men even allowed to walk around freely in Bauchi", You'll blame him...now you know you're just as intolerant as they are. |
