Sample the opinions of the common man on the street in Lagos about Fashola and you'll be surprised how far the man has fallen in their estimation compared to his first term.

larride: I'm sorry but when last did you visit Lagos?
I'm by 'Lagos' you mean Ikoyi, VI, VGC, Lekki.
Go take a walk through the streets of Ejigbo, walk down that Ikotun road where Joshua's Synagogue is. Walk through the slums of Lagos and see how well you can spin it as a 'paradise'.

Fashola has done some good things...he's also done some awful, brainless things too. Just as you slavishly point out the good things, others will point out the bad things. There's a balance here that you're trying to upset.

PS: Go to Edo State and see how the common man speaks of Adams Oshiomhole. From Taxi drivers to Okada operators to Professors and Market women...all positive stories. Yet Oshiomhole doesn't get up to 5% of the hype Fashola gets!

Toroze: I'm Not Hating On Anyone But Most of This Peeps Who Claim To Be Technology Incline or Tech Geeks Aren't. Most Of The Views That Are Above Are A Result of Mainly Windows Os and a Small Part Played By The Mac Os, Cause I Don't Get Why Peeps Won't Know The Third Most Used Os In The World Ubuntu. After Using Windows Since The Age Of Eight You've Got To Look For Sumthn New Hence Linux. But Ubuntu Started Messing Up From v12.04 So I Now Use Linux Mint 13 MATE Which Is Crazy Good On My Netbook, I'm Talking a Boot Time Of 40sec People, Plus LTS and Upgrades Every Six Months. Ubuntu Os For Phones I Can't Wait For 2014 We're Talkin About Replacing CPU's With Hand Held Devices When The Phone Is Docked Which Means From Your Mobile Set You Control Your Monitor, Keyboard and Mouse When Its Docked. The Best Part Is That Its Opensource Which Means Other Linux Distro's Can Jump on It Men Imagine Linux Mint Cinnamon on a Phone. Power To The Penguin
Some of us are grown-ups, you know. We work for a living. 90% of the professional software i use don't run on Linux. 99% of the games I play on my PC in my downtime do not work on Linux. A large portion of the software I use are Windows only. Some of us put in 10 hour work days on average...for stuff like personal computers many of us don't have a masochistic desire to wade through stuff to get things to work.

Kudos to you if you need to 'look for something new'. I don't. I don't give a rat's arse about Ubuntu because I don't use it...and it has no part in my workflow for now. Open source or not, It's just another OS...like Windows or OSX. Just another alternative with trade-offs...just like Windows and OS X.

the concept of docking your phone and using it as a computing terminal isn't really new...or unique to canonical.

Such a shame you're bragging about being tech savvy yet you're talking about 40 secs boot time with pride. Grow up and buy an SSD if you're ready to move to the 21st century and enjoy 10 - 12 secs boot time.

Slyr0x: A smart developer would rather budget for 1 site a month (Or 2 at most), charge high for that 1 site(relax 1 week of the month) than do 10 low-priced sites and never have time for himself.

He only discoverd dat the CAN president was meeting wit Christians leaders 4rm all over d nation at the Ecunemical centre since of course CBN is nearby. He then sent message 2 dem dat he wants 2 visit dia meetin 2 xplain islamic banking 2 dem.. If u were d 1, would u hav let him in? Afterall d leaders had dia business of d day... So speak of wat u dnt knw.
Sanusi is the CBN Governor. He is a Government appointee. He is under no obligation to kowtow to any CAN president. Oritsejafor should be the one to go to him, not the other way round.

Secondly, I don't give a rat's arse if it was a meeting of Christian leaders. If the Islamic Banking issue was such a terrible thing as Oritsejafor was claiming, why wouldn't he LEAP at the chance of bringing Sanusi in, putting him in the middle of the crowd and subject him to a barrage of questions? He had the chance to get Sanusi under pressure like a cockroach in a gathering of fowls and his pride would not let him take it. Your points are nonsensical.

donpata: Lastly, poverty is a Disease - Else u wont talk of rejecting d gift of a jet; u knw u will hav d opportunity of an "okada" 4 a gift. If any1 knws his bible well, he should know dat "Those who work at the alter get dia living 4rm d alter". 1 tin u certainly cant establish is weda Pastor Ayo has sinned in all wat he does..
Yes, poverty in your household is a disease.
Oritsejafor has already gotten his living from the altar. He's already an extremely wealthy man who has been often heard to boast that his community bank is "the biggest in West Africa". Does he need a private jet for his 'living'? Does his benefits from the altar extend to the gold bling and jewelry he's always sporting?

donpata: By d way, are you a better person dan our leaders?
I don't steal, I don't kill, I care for my fellow man. Don't look to tar good men if you know you are a crook like our leaders.

donpata: You called oda pple fake Christians, So u are d true Christian? Obviously u lack knowledge of d Word; else, u would know it says We shld not judge neither shld we speak evil of d Lord's anoited. God wil take care of their 'evil ways' if any.
At least i'm not a pastor-worshipping charlatan like yourself.
The Bible also says "by their fruits, we shall know them". When we see foul smelling fruits, we are free to make our conclusions about the 'anointed' status. 'Touch not my anointed' never meant 'do not criticize'. Afterall, even Peter was criticized by Paul in the Bible in Galatians. But i don't expect a fake Christian like yourself to know this.

Now, scurry out of my sight.

You're unfairly blaming them for being 'money focused'.

Not all of them are 'poorly trained'. Even the entry level doctors can tackle most of the ailments they face...and there are several that have enough foreign training under their belt.

'poorly trained'? The fact that you have the benefit of foreign medical training doesn't really give you the right to look down on these guys. Many of them are trained well enough to handle the vast majority of ailments prevalent in Sub-saharan Africa. This ill-thought, elitist comment is disappointing coming from you.

'money focused'? Don't be dense. Last I checked, landlords, car dealers and market women do not give doctors a 90% discount on producing ID cards and stethoscopes. Also last I checked, Doctors in Lagos are as keen as everyone else to have children and cater for them.

databoy247: I totally agree with you. But its gonna be difficult to implement.
Suggestion? Like i said in some post last two years, We need to set up a registered association, and compel all web developers to register with said association. This association or union is gonna serve as a regulatory body for web developers providing a fixed "minimum" charge for jobs. The general public is going to be aware of it. SO if you give your job to non-registered developer, na u sabi.

Its gonna promote professionalism and give web developers their long due respect in the society. Atleast street barbers do have a union how much more web developers.

My 2 cents.
The only thing this says about you is that you just aren't good enough.

If your client tells you he can get someone to do it for N20k and you cannot in 10 minutes whip out your iPad and show his the difference between your N300k website and the N20k website, you have no business calling yourself a 'professional web developer'.
Happy New Year peep.

In d past year, we all have witnessed how ridiculous amount charged by non professionals and newbies have had negative impact on us the professionals and the Website Design & Development Profession.

Personally on several occassions, I have been seen as a person who charge exorbitantly or "just to expensive" with clients siting exampls of other website designer who charge just 10-25k for a website (but we all know what they get at d end-frustration). This actually made me loose some jobs or in some cases, I've had to just consider and do jobs at give away price. But on a particular occassion, I literally walked away due to the clients manner of approach.

If we intend to have good stories to tell at the end of 2013, then, we all must agree to charge a basic/standard fee of not less than 50k for a 5 page website. Cos if we charge less, how much will your service charge be? I charge 20k for yearly hosting and domain name.

I believe we want to live above average life. Lemme hold it here for now.
I'm surprised this garnered 40 'Likes'. This is a free market. Adapt or die. If your work cannot stand out for itself, then find something better to do.

I swear, this is senseless beyond belief.

Perhaps footballers should form union too and ban anyone collecting salary of less than N300k per month. Nonsense.

ypzilanti: You take pride in being an ethnic bigot? Fine. But do not confuse that with having pride in your ethnicity. Nobody has a say in deciding whatever tribe they are born into, and everybody (with exception of a few selfhaters) is very proud of their heritage. Not everyone is however, an ethnic bigot. An ethnic bigot is the same animal as a racist bigot. If you are an ethnic bigot, what it means is that despite all the statistical and logical evidence that shows that all tribes and races produce high performing and low performing individuals, you chose to believe in your deluded sense of grandeur.

To be very blunt, ethnic and tribal warlords are just cowards and hypocrites...If you are so confident that you are better than others, why do you not behave in such a manner in real life and snub other tribes in the course of your daily life? Most of the 1d1ots that spew rubbish on this forum would all rather marry a well schooled and groomed person of the tribe that they say they hate, than marry a poor uneducated person of the same tribe as they are.

Finally, good luck with your ethnic bigotry in 2013. I do not need any prophet to tell me that with that attitude, you will not go very far in this life. Goodluck with making all your future major decisions in life by ethnic considerations...
Stop the presses, this is the best post I've seen on nairaland in YEARS!

I realize that many of you in real life as not the loathsome tribalists your portray on Nairaland, but the stoopidity of this tribalist bullcrap on Nairaland is staggering.
This is the POLITICS section of Nairaland. We should be discussing serious issues that concern this nation. As someone said, after the passage of the FoI bill, there should be loads of public records to sift through. There should be a 'Rogues' Gallery' of thieves to name and shame. There should be constructive discussions on how to move this country forward.
Instead what we get here are inane topics like "Igbo man caught smuggling drugs" and "Cowardly Yoruba men slaughtered by Fulani"

Nonsense!

I'm sick and tired of the usual accursed m0r0ns who remain too deeply mired in imbecility to realize that what someone from your tribe does means NOTHING. It's what YOU do that means something. Why would I be trumpeting the achievements of Oshiomhole who comes from my state as a personal achievement when the man does not know I exist?

For those who are too daft to know otherwise, who will insist that people from other tribes are the 'enemy', let me use the words of an Igbo man, Major Kaduna Nzeogwu to remind you who the true enemy is:

Our enemies are the political profiteers, the swindlers, the men in high and low places that seek bribes and demand 10 percent; those that seek to keep the country divided permanently so that they can remain in office as ministers or VIPs at least, the tribalists, the nepotists, those that make the country look big for nothing before international circles, those that have corrupted our society and put the Nigerian political calendar back by their words and deeds.

Old speech, but still very apt.

Alex Obellq: That served them right, how can you formed 2 extra lane on a one lane route? Thats madness, when can we maintain orderliness in this country? Are we never tired of short cut? That impetient led to corruption most time in Nigeria
I agree that the attitude of the drivers that form those extra lanes worsens things, but even if one or two lanes were strictly followed, there's a SERIOUS traffic bottleneck there that is purely Amaechi's fault. None other!

Typical Nigerian leader will deflect that blame on to others.

PS: 99% of the time, those extra lanes are formed by police vehicles that drive anyhow just to beat the traffic. People follow them and then when the Police vehicles pass, there's pandemonium and the extra lines remain in place.
The Nigerian Police is BY FAR the biggest lawbreaker as far as road traffic is concerned. Amaechi's pet police and traffic monitors are the biggest culprits!

You're asking Nigerians to 'feel sorry' for a multi-millionaire who has a rather high, greedy taste for expenditure over a 'persecution' that actually ends in calls being made for her resignation?

In many other civilized societies, her dirty linen that had already been aired in public would be enough reason for her to voluntarily resign. it's only in Nigeria where these things happen, where a thrice accursed thief like Ibori or Bode George would cry 'persecution' over their travails and people would take up the refrain.

What next? You open up a thread asking us to sympathize with Dieziani over her 'media persecution'? Who else do we sympathize with? Anenih? Igbinedion?

I don't see you opening up a thread calling for sympathy for the demonization of Buhari in the media, for example. No thread for Osaze Odemwingie? Who else?

Techwriter: The mistake some people make is to think of CAN as a "Church". Far from that, CAN is a political arm of the christian body meant to protect the interest of christians.

Another misconception is that men of God should distance themselves from their leaders. So some criticize Pst Adeboye for praying for the president. So they prefer the president fraternizes with occultic men.

The Jesus we follow was labeled a friend of sinners, becos He was wining and dinning with them though He made sure he was the one influencing them and not the other way round:so all u holier than thou preachers may really not be following Christ.
All these fake Christians of nowadays...hackneying quotes from the Bible to support their funny positions.

Jesus sat down with sinners because He was influencing them for the better. He sat down among them and condemned their sinful ways of life.
The current CAN president sits down with the corrupt elite and stays smugly silent as he basks in opulence and simmers in their adoration.

Did Jesus go as far as praising the corrupt elite? Oritsejafor is on record as saying that anyone criticizing Uduaghan is criticizing God because 'God put Uduaghan there'. Is that the person you're seriously supporting?

As a CAN president, his conduct has been shameful often times. His stance on Islamic Banking was hilarious...after crying foul, it turned out that he turned down an attempt by Sanusi to meet him to discuss. He went to Benin and started telling shameless lies, stating that the Government had spent billions of Naira on Islamic banking...even though this was clearly a lie.

I have never seen anywhere this fellow has come out to criticize the crooks and criminals in the corridors of power. I will not even dwell on the shameful farce of receiving a private Jet as a 'gift' while God's children in Delta STate that were displaced by flood starved and froze in silence.
