mithel: now you have crossed the line, nigeria is a country with 150 million people, and am sure the scammers and scam supporters alike are not up to 10 percent of that, and mind you 10 % is 15 million people.....so saying he is in the minority is bullsh*t,Nigerians are not scammers,we are just unfortunate that our population is so much that, even when 5% of us are doing something bad,it looks like the whole nation is involved.......abi who go say 15 million aint plenty.
Sorry, he's in the minority. OF all the songs in Nigeria, why did 'I go chop your dollar', 'Yahoozee' and 'Maga don pay' rise to the top of all the charts?

Scammers may be in the minority, but there's a large population of boneheads that are scam sympathizers!
If anything, there are more Chinese, Russian and Eastern European scammers than there are in Nigeria, yet would Norton try this with Russia?
Yes, the Chinese and Russians send FAR FAR more spam and scam e-mails than Nigerians do. But you know what? The Eastern-European type scam has one objective in mind: liberate you of your credit card details and drain some cash from your account. Everything is done impersonally and once you're hit, they move on.

On the other hand, the Nigerian pattern is much more repulsive. They call you up on the phone, gain confidence and betray, empty accounts and credit cards, coerce the victims into borrowing more and more money (driving them further in debt)...sometimes the victims are put in physical risk when they send you dud checks and make you go to the bank to cash it in. Many innocent people get arrested for attempted fraud at banks, putting them in further legal as well as financial trouble.

There are certified records of not a few people committing suicide after a Nigerian scam hits them.

So yes, there are much more emails from russia promising cheap viagra or cialis or penile enlargement pills. But the Nigerian ones (while fewer in number) are much more odious.

Why are you sanctimonious dolts so offended by this?

You m0r0ns kept quiet when Nkem Owoh's 'I go chop your dollar' video made it to the top of the charts
You m0r0ns kept quiet when Olu Maintain did his 'Yahoozee' hit track
You m0r0ns kept quiet and had fun when Kelly Hansome's 'I go chop your dollar' became No 1 on all Nigerian charts.

You m0r0ns bloody well keep quiet and accept that the email scam has now been affectionately termed 'Nigerian email scam'. it's part of the Urban Dictionary now so either you live with it or not.

If you really feel outraged about this, instead of ranting and raving on Nairaland, why not gather a neighbourhood militia and raid your nearest cybercafe to catch tens of these youths in the act?

Nigerians will faithfully report strip clubs to the Lagos State Government but keep quiet when they see gangs of bare-chested louts sending thousands of scam mails apiece to foreigners. Nonsense

PS: As i speak, 'I go chop your dollar' and 'maga don pay' videos are still on Youtube, gathering loads of comments from 'Oyibo' people that are very critical of Nigeria. Why hasn't any of you complained about those?

eikeem: Police sources alleged that the victim was lured from her Festac residence to an estate at Apapa to attend a Christmas party on 27 December, 2012.

Hmmmmm........ Looks like there's more to this story. Strangers couldn't just have 'lured' you to a party if there wasn't a previous history somewhere. Friendship is good but we must exercise caution and apply common sense in our quest for 'networking'.
As for the boys, I hope justice is effectively dispensed cos we all know what the Nigerian police is capable of.
Don't be a m0r0n and try to put any blame whatsoever on the girl. did the article claim they were strangers?

kokoye: Were these guys known friends ..or just strangers that inteved her to a party and she agreed to go to a party with them without any backup?
The response to this question will help to decide what to say to the girl: sorry or be wise next time.
Every single response to the girl should be 'sorry'. What kind of imbecilic monster will utter 'be wise next time' as a response to this savage abuse? What does it really matter if she knew them or not before? Have YOU never gone anywhere with friends without a 'backup'?

But like I said, I suport the man. If a woman left her house, her home, her family to go to another mans house and harrass his wife.. ANYTHING SHE SEE, MAKE SHE TAKE!!! Period!!

The ability or inability for a man to shut a woman up without physical abuse is neither here nor there.. I am a strong believer in violence. It is the last resort in conflict resolution. People may not like it, but it works all the same. That woman was his elder sister which gives her the height and natural authority advantage. She prolly thought she could bully him like she prolly did when they were kids.. Sadly, she forgot that he was now a grown, married man..

When we were struggling together from childhood, going to primary school, secondary school and even university, pulling things through together where was my wife. When we were drinking garri together in our struggling days in a very harsh condition, where was my wife. When people were making carricature of my family, even taunting us where was my wife. Now am a made man, rich and get myself a wife, i should now turn against my family. Beat my elder sister for what? If i didnt make it in life, will my wife look my way at all, but, i guess my sister will still put effort to make me a made man. Op did you say my elder sister? my elder sister is probably a senior to my wife, so why should my wife say nasty things about her to disrespect her? Wow.... I love my wife but, i will never turn against my family because of her. GOD forbid bad thing. Oya, i know all the married women in the house will want to take on me now. But, ask yourselves if your junior brother you sufferred for beats you up because of his wife, no matter the reason how you will take it.
I feel so sorry for anyone who marries you sha.

You can even re-write your comment and exchange 'wife' for 'children'. Afterall, where were your kids when you and your sister were drinking Garri? grin

it's cowards like you that give men a bad name. You are the head of your new family when you marry, you take an oath to protect and provide for your family. Dey there dey act like mumu...very soon your best friend who was there with you when you were struggling will start spanking your wife and you'll be looking on with approval.

Lolaabokoku: u beta scramm!!! Let me share dis short story wid u; in 2010 i met a 29 yrs old guy, he's cute, brilliant infact he has all d quality evry lady wanted in a man, in a very short time we got along well wit eachoda.. One tin i noticed was that he rarely invites me to his house but when i insisted & threatened 2 break up with him so one day, he invited me 2 his place on getting there, he switched off the lights & we were able 2 see through the reflection of his television. It happened the second time but on my third visit, i never told him i was coming.. It was still afternoon, i knocked and entered straight then the lights were on i just looked straight at the wall & i saw a toddlers picture on the wall which looks exactly like him,, it was then i asked who the baby in the pic is, dat was when he confessed 2 me dat he had children... Not just 1 child, two children, he has 3 children but wants 2 remarry.. So my dear u can see how dangerous a man can be.. So i think he is still hiding somethings for u but if really u think u can go ahead with the relationship no problem but if not take 2 ur heels..
How exactly was he 'dangerous'?
He has kids, does that forbid him from ever remarrying? Did you ask him if he had kids? Do you know if he was waiting for the perfect opportunity to tell you first?

Education › Re: Covenant University Reconsidered Expelled Students by texazzpete(m): 6:22pm On Jan 15, 2013
eldoradoxx: The root cause of corruption in Nigeria is that laws are not obeyed, rules are not strictly followed; they are bent to accommodate different shades of sentiments. And a university being a pinnacle of refinement where future of a nation is crafted and molded into people, it cannot be allowed to fail in its mission. If universities fail to produce men fit in character and learning to the entrusted with the task of perpetuating civilisation them ww would have succeeded in proving Thomas Hobbs state of nature theorem correct . Why am I saying this,Covenant university has a charter spelling out right, duties and obligtions of students. And one of the article says that all "Assemblies" are mandatory failure of which is punishable with either suspension or explsion. There is no student of that school that isn't aware of this! So why absent themselves from "Assembly" and now seek our corrupt society and people who need redemption themselves to use sentiment and bend rules? What has human right got to do with school's decision to exercise its disciplinary powers over erring students. I am human being but if I were the sch management I wud insist on everybody serving out his or her punishment cos if rules are bent becos of this few dissidents then an audacity is created in students that school mgt listens to popular sentiments and surely gradually the moral fabric of the institution will be torn just as we have succeeded in all public universities in Nigeria
You would expel someone for not attending a Church service?! Nonsense.
All we are saying now is that if such draconian punishments are to be continually levied against students, then the school should stop masquerading as a 'Christian' institution because they have nothing in common with some of the basic rules of Christianity - love, forgiveness and repentance.

Now, kindly tell me how mandatory church services help in 'character and learning'. You force someone to go through the motions and you think it will not build resentment down the line? You need to see how ex-Madonna students detest Father Edeh...only the cult-like worship of Pentecostal Pastors these days prevents Oyedepo from sharing a similar fate. If mandatory services were totally effective, why does Covenant Uni still carry out pregnancy tests on female students?

You would do well to remember that most of those students were placed there by their misguided parents. Saying they 'signed up for the rules' is a bit misleading in such cases. Many students are put there by their folks and made to subsist under draconian, medieval rules. It's funny you talk about 'rights' when most ex-students will tell you that most times, they are not given any chance to say anything in their defence as it is often portrayed as 'dissent' (which is a severely punishable offence) . So what 'rights' are you babbling about?

At the end of the day, you have a school that plans to bring out a generation of youth that are basically cowed and submissive...hardly the mold of such brilliant mavericks like Einstein and Edison that Nigeria sorely needs. One has the uneasy feeling that the whole point is to reinforce a link/leash between them and Oyedepo's Church.

We'll see.

Even in jail, going to church is not mandatory!!
This reaction small. Some people talk here like imbecilic dolts that don't know the ramification of expulsion.
Basically, when you expel someone who is in 400 level for missing a church service, you're setting the person's clock nearly 5 years back. This is a human being who has hopes, dreams and aspirations...and you're destroying all those over a misdemeanor.
M0r0ns here talk about following rules...they forget that the Christian faith is based on following rules laid down in the bible...but when such rules are broken, the faith tells us that there is unconditional forgiveness as long as there is repentance. Now a Bishop is being unforgiving and people say it is normal.

if na my pikin dem expel for such frivolous reasons, i will give all those clergymen the beating of their life. E go be like film trick angry

On the guitarist side, he went all over the globe with KSA and he is still talking of severance package. If he coudlnt achieve anything with what they shared over 30years, how could have succeeded with severance package?
Why is it so hard for you dolts to understand that a man can be part of the band without being a STAFF MEMBER of any of KSA's companies?

For example, Didier Drogba played for Chelsea for many years. He was never made a permanent member of Chelsea FC or given a place on the board.

Most of those julius berger "expatraites" are handymen/women and trained technicians,no where near universities, but they control and instruct qualified engineers who runs around like errand boys in nigeria.

kolibdrus: The families and friends of Shola Adeghegha are imploring all Nigerians, Nairalanders home and abroad to please wade into the issue of gruesome murder of Shola Adeghegha that was murdered by a Nigeria Police at Mokola Police Station in Ibadan.

Early yesterday morning, 08/01/13, the deceased brother was called by the police to come to Mokola Police Station to bail Shola who has a case in their station. On getting there, they could not him and they asked his whereabout.

It was then the D.P.O. attached to the station started calming the deceased brothers down telling them Shola has been killed by one of his boys. His explnation: Shola was arrested with his car and he was asked to drive to Mokola police Station from Ago tapa where they arrested him, he took them to the station and while a policeman was trying to open the gate, Shola reversed the vehicle to run away and so he was shot dead by the police.

The family have asked for them to produce the police but they have not done so. People living around Mokola station did not hear any gunshot yesterday morning as the police claimed it happened then. Even Mokola Police station entrance is so narrow that a vehicle will have to turn and turn to make a reverse for escape, and at the same time how can Shola take them to the station before deciding to run away.

Please all this questions are begging for answers from Nigerian Police.

Please Nigerians, wade into this matter and bring the killer cop to book for this murder. Lets stop this murderous killings by Nigerian Police.

Thanks
The explanation from the DPO makes no sense. You cannot shoot and kill an unarmed man just for trying to reverse and escape.
