I agree that Nigerians are hardworking and resourceful, but we still have the most useless government in the world! Why?
OAM4J:
Our greatest enemy is our corrupt leadership
The belief that our leaders are the bane of Nigeria is the reason why we are in this sorry state.
We have corrupt leaders, but our leaders are no more corrupt than millions of Nigerians in all levels in the society.
This absurd belief that the problem lies with our leaders prevents the honest few from taking any actions to better Nigeria in their own spheres of influence.

Politics › Re: Mr Soludo:from Hero To Villian? by texazzpete(m): 7:49am On Nov 09, 2009
Soludo is merely the bait for yet another PDP trap for the people of Anambra. Even after all the trauma the PDp has but them through, i beats me hollow how people can still consider voting for that party of miscreants.

There are enough threads about Soludo's integrity which folks like me have argued over and over again. While i do not believe you raised any credible issue above I am not interested in presenting a counter argument because like I said this thread is not about Soludo.
If you want to question Soludo's integrity based on the issues above please by all means start a new thread and I promise to respond accordingly.
Need i remind you that YOU were the person that brought up Soludo's name first in this discussion?
Stop taking the cowardly way out. This is a free-for-all discussion. I am merely asking you a question. If you have rebuttals bring them up!
Just to jar your memory, this was what you said

I am optimistic about SOLUDO's chances of leading Anambra to greater heights as Governor.
Politics › Re: Lets Talk About Ngige by texazzpete(m): 8:43pm On Nov 08, 2009
mikeansy:
Our politics as it is right now boils down to the integrity of the individual in question and as such I am optimistic about SOLUDO's chances of leading Anambra to greater heights as Governor.
Hah, what Integrity? Need i remind you that Soludo's name has come up in several fraud related cases including the AFC connection and the Securrency mint issue?
Do i need to mention his eagerness to overlook sharp practices done by bank MD/CEOs? Or his incompetence in minting coins which cost the nation billions and which no one used? Coin printing that even the most basic of market research would have shown that Nigerians would not accept them?

Integrity, huh? What about the company he keeps? The likes of Anenih et al, does their presence fill you with confidence? Does the way the ticket was hijacked for him speak much about his 'integrity'?

If you Anambra people vote in PDP and Soludo this time, you'll stew in your self-inflicted misery. Apart from his dubious record as CBN governor, what else is there to recommend this fellow for the job?

Business › Re: First Bank Reports N74 Billion Bad Loan by texazzpete(m): 5:47pm On Nov 05, 2009
SGN:
I think the crux of the matter is that all banks have bad loans.  But the ratio of the bad loans to capital base and total loan portfolio is what is unbelievably high in the distressed bank that almost tilted them over the edge and turned the to perpetual borrowers in the EDW and hence the CBN intervention.

Now, 1billion bad loan might be enough to cause company A to be distressed and it might take 10billion to get company B in the same situation.  There is no one with magic wand that can be used to ensure no loan granted by his bank will not go bad.  There are conditions out there that can throw all logic and analysis to the gutters.

If conditions for granting these loans in FirstBank were found out not to have followed the best practices (which might not), and their position is as bad as any of the mentioned distressed bank, trust me there are insiders who are loyal to some of the shamed guys that would have blown the whistle.

The good thing we need to take from all that is happening is that bank can at least present to us something closer to their true state henceforth unlike the gimmicks and the more you look the less you see situation of the past.
Exactly!
I'm not an Ibru or an Atuche or a Nwosu. I have nothing to lose or gain from the sack of the CEOs. As a consumer and a Nigerian who has need of a viable banking system, i gain immensely from having my money safe in strong, honest banks that are run professionally. Sanusi's hurricane will hurt at first, but like most good medicine, it's the bitter ones that cure you faster  grin
Business › Re: CBN To Begin Investigating Any Bank Transactions From 250k?? by texazzpete(m): 2:02pm On Nov 05, 2009
Perhaps you issues stem from the word 'monitoring'?
When you go to UBA to transfer/deposit cash over 200k and you are asked to move to another line specially meant for that purpose, isn't it 'monitoring' also?

It will take only an extra 5 seconds to enter someone's name in the database when making a transaction exceeding that limit, 5 seconds for the database search and 3 seconds to get back to normal business. So what are you lot complaining about?

The word is 'monitoring'. While it may have flaws, it's a whole lot better than doing nothing.

Can't you people read? The article on BBC says the IDENTITY of people transferring cash above 250k will be checked.
it can be as simple as checking your ID when making such transfers. In this case, there will be a list of people whose names will raise a red flag once they are entered in the system.
The BBC says this system has been adopted in many countries around world, especially since the Sept 11 attacks.

We get it - you don't like Sanusi either for being a northerner or for tarnishing the image built up by your tin god, Soludo. But learn to weigh the facts and read the frigging article correctly before talking.

And no matter what you people think, N250000 is a reasonably large sum of money. Put into perspective, in many areas of Nigeria, for 200k i could have you shot!

You whiners complain incessantly about Sanusi's intervention. What if he had done nothing and just ONE of those banks had gone under?
