Gaming › Re: Yamauchi Talks Gran Torismo 5 Visuals: "better Than Reality" - by texazzpete(m): 4:09pm On Oct 11, 2009
HQ:
Oh No, EA better watch out, their NFS may never stand a chance!
what rock have you been hiding under? NFS has been a flagging series lately.

kosovo:
Gran Turismo has always reset the bar when it comes to sparkling visuals in any given generation, and series creator Kazunori Yamauchi insures us Polyphony will do it again with the fifth entry.

According to a recent NowGamer interview, Yamauchi claims that GT5 doesn't just look great, it actually looks "better than reality." We've already seen just how amazing video game graphics can be after playing through the masterpiece that is Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, but there are always bigger and better things just around the corner in this industry, right? Said Yamauchi:

"'Better than reality' – yeah, that's one way of putting it. In a way, it's kind of a given that it's going to look better than reality. The thing about reality is that the criteria for looking "real" are actually a lot stricter and volatile than you'd expect. The way the sun shines, reflects off something, the way it lights scenery – we seldom have the opportunity to see what we consider "reality" under the best and most aesthetically pleasing conditions."

Yamauchi goes on to say there's a distinct difference between "best conditions" in a video game and reality; he gives us the example of the sun shining down at a perfect angle when the race is on television, but you can recreate that all you want in the game. It's an interesting way to look at it, really. But all we really care about is that entirely overhauled physics engine and the overall intricacy and depth of GT5. , well, we do care about the visuals, but we already know they're going to be sparkling and pretty. Yamauchi and Co. will certainly impress us.
More hype and BS. better than reality? Don't make me laugh. The GT5 prologue didn't even look better than the other competing racing games out there.

This must not only focus on the poor state of Nigerian roads, but on the careless indifference to safety exhibited by Nigerians.

it was reported that the blaze started when a policeman shot in the air to scare away people scooping up fuel from the wreckage. So my questions are

1. Why would any right thinking person go to a highly combustible area like that, risking his/her life just for a few gallons of fuel?

2. When people saw fuel gushing out, why no move to evacuate the area? Why were there fully loaded passenger buses attempting to pass through that area even with the massive spillage?

If i were in a bus and i saw a pool of fuel up ahead, i'd get down and leave that area ASAP. So much carnage could have been avoided if only people took their personal safety more seriously.

@ Texazzpete and rethink

It is one thing for one of your own to portray the bad side and traits you demonstrate. It is a completely totally different thing for an outsider (antagonist) to not only potray this but also manufacture ones just to denigrate your type and portray you as irredeemable human thing.

Never, ever try and justify the latter.
As a matter of fact, it's even WORSE when we portray ourselves negatively. We're the ones supposed to know better, not any 'outsider' as you put it.
I've heard these same sentiments from many Nigerians, and in my opinion they are just a feeble excuse to justify our innate cowardice as Nigerians to fix our own personal problems. All we're good at is looking for scapegoats to place the blame of our failures on.

I think NASA should be more concern on how to get water in the desert regions of the world for the inhabitants; instead of going all the way to the moon to alter the state of existence of matter therein. A lot of people on earth are dying of thirst but all NASA can use taxpayer's money to do is to carry out some senseless research, cos that's what it looks to me. Unless someone can convince me otherwise,
NASA stands for National Aeronautics and Space Administration, and it's an agency of the US government tasked with the US space program and Aerospace research for the United States.
none of its job functions involves finding novel ways to extricate water from desert regions of the world. NASA is not tasked with solving the world's water problems - that's the function of the United Nations for you, dammit!

Why you need convincing is beyond me. But i've tried, nonetheless.

What if something goes wrong?? ?? ?? shocked
Why do they think they can manipulate everything? Do they own the moon? huh
The question is, why would an educated fellow like yourself expect 'anything to go wrong' when a relatively tiny spacecraft impacts on the much more massive moon at only 6000 mph? as NASA has said repeatedly, the only impact should be a crater half the size of a football field.
And that's not nearly enough to do any damage whatseoever.

FYI, it's called research. You come from a country that does little of it, that doesn't mean others shirk from this critical task.

@Superego

1. You cannot use the word 'racism' to describe this situation. Both ghanaians and Nigerians belong to the negroid race. The correct word is probably xenophobia.

2. You mention reasons why Nigerians are suddenly unpopular in Ghana, focusing mainly on 'jealousy' as a major reason. Ever care to gauge the effect of hundreds of thousands of Nigerian home videos that depict Naijans as gangsters and voodoo specialists? Why do you think other west african countries blame Nigerians for the influx of ritual killings?

Too ridiculous for her to say.[/quote]I know it's asking a lot to read all the pages of this topic, but isn't it rather stupid that you didn't even bother to read the posts above yours that states what the non-illiterate ones amongst us already knew: Oprah NEVER said those words!!!

This whole steaming pile of crap started as a user submitted article on an online news site, yet Nigerians carried it as if it was the gospel truth. When we look for reasons why this country is in such a mess, we should note that willingness of many Nigerians to dwell on idle rumours and their subsequent unwillingness to use their brains are also contributory factors.

LMAO at all these naive people who think that 'development' and 'employment' will solve the kidnapping issue. There's no nation in the world with no unemployment issues. None whatsoever. Even a massive job creation program will not yield high paying jobs for the millions of unskilled youths roaming the region.
I belong to the school of thought that insists that one of the major problems in Nigeria is that people think the only issue is with our leaders. Corruption exists in every level in Nigeria, and no matter how many solutions you offer, the lure of quick and easy riches will always be a motivation for these miscreants to kidnap people.

A strong deterrence is needed to halt this trend. I'm surprised people are here talking about the 'barbarity' of Death penalty. Why is it so hard to understand the massive trauma associated with Kidnapping? Last week i visited a colleague of mine who was kidnapped and held for up to a week. During this time, he was macheted several times, with an attempt by the kidnappers to sever his Achilles tendons to prevent him from escaping. This man stayed for 5 days in the bush, bleeding untreated while you lot lunched and dined happily.

Kidnapping is an evil crime, and must be given zero tolerance. End of story.

bawomolo:
death penalty for kidnapping?

that sounds barbaric.

why not try to reform them during a prison term. just saying
Reform is hardly possible in Nigerian prisons.

No. You are the mad one for offering tacit support to kidnappers. Something doesn't have to happen directly to you before you can understand. Do you know the emotional trauma to the loved ones of the kidnap victims? Do you know how many have been killed or maimed by their captors? The traumatised babies that will not speak for days, the victims that are rendered paranoid, fearful wrecks - what do you know about them?

Not everything has to be related to 'thieving government officials and politicians' in this miserable country. Kidnapping is a heinous, terrible crime and it must be met with the maximum force to curb this.

I support the death penalty for these people 110%.

ROSSIKE:
Interestingly, a Zimbabwean minister was asked this same question a few years ago and his response was: "How will we know how to run the farms when they were seized from our possession a hundred years ago? How will we learn how to run the farms when they are in the possession of thieves who stole the land and retained the knowledge of its exploitation? Now that we have repossessed our land, we will LEARN how to run it, even if it takes us a thousand years!!"

It's like somebody stealing your car, rendering you immobile, and then twenty years later, your son goes to reclaim the car from the thief, and the  thief says, ''hey, why take the car? You can't drive!!''. The victim's son says ''don't worry. I will learn. How could I have learnt when you stole the car in the first place? Hand me back my father's car, and I will learn to drive it, however long it takles!''.
Hogwash!
There are more than three schools of Agriculture in Zimbabwe in existence now for several decades. What happened to giving the farmlands out to people who actually KNOW how to farm, and not ex-millitamen who have never lifted a hoe in anger?

It's one thing to insist that there should be equitable land re-distribution. It's another to be so maniacally careless about what becomes of the land, and the food output from the reclaimed land.
You keep talking about 'Zimbabweans'. Save for Mugabe and his cronies, the vast majority of Zimbabweans just want food, water and security - and that's something Mugabe isn't giving them.

In a way, citing the Zimbabwe issue as a 'triumph over neo-colonialism' serves up a sterling example of human selfishness. All you lot care about is making points and fiery speeches. You DO need to care more for the suffering millions in Zimbabwe who live hollow-eyed and sunken-bellied, a victim of the gross stupidity and selfishness of their leader.

PS: How much foreign aid to Africa have principal pan-africanists like Ghadaffi rendered?

@ritchboy   u re such a slowpoke, when u devote all resources, time and funds, to the development of a game on one console, you will acheive almost double results rather than when you devote such to different platform, because you must make the two versions look similar, inrespective of the power they posses.
as far as i am concern, no multiplat game can compare to exclusive games like
Killzone 2
unchanted 2
Gran torismo 5
Heavy rain.
  ALL IN FULL HD.
1. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is FAR superior to Killzone 2. And it's multiplatform
2. As you pointed out in your own post, GTA IV is rated higher than uncharted. And it's multiplatform
3. Heavy rain and GT5 aren't out yet, there's no basis for including them in this comparison table cheesy

Exclusiveness does not indicate quality. PS3 Launch title LAIR was exclusive. Ratchet and Clank is an exclusive that pales in comparison to Super Mario Galaxy. Do you really want me to list all the Sony exclusives that have tanked?

Stop being a PS3 troll and focus on gaming in general. I buy far more games for my PS3 than my 360, that doesnt mean i do not appreciate games on any system that comes my way.

I saw this on AIT last week. They didn't beat him but they shut him out of the apartment like someone said.
Apparently from what the landlord said on AIT news, they had knocked out a wall separating two rooms in order to make a sound studio in the house - and they did this without informing the landlord. Hence his ire.

Yesterday on the radio, i heard a statement credited to Psquare's management insisting that the Landlord was 'merely using Psquares fame to score cheap popularity'

That's because you're too young to appreciate such games!

You don't need realistic visuals to convey a story. That's why the story and characters in games such as Zelda 64: Ocarina of Time and Final Fantasy 7 are even better than those in modern games like MGS 4 and Devil May Cry etc.
People cared when Aeris got killed in FF7. You think anyone felt any empathy when Sniper Wolf, Vulcan Raven, Solidus or Liquid Snake croaked?

It isn't just about the graphics, it's all about the gameplay. Amazing games like Super Mario World or the early Sonic series are what you're calling mediocre? Not to mention the final fantasy series 1-4?
