Sorry for the late response, Nickisindigo and Mekuzyo. I have been off here for like two days. I was expecting Nairaland to notify me via email when there's a reply.

Could you send me a PM so that I can get your Telegram info? Click on my username to find the option to that, in case you don't know how. One person should be enough to create a group, I guess.

I can then put the group link up here when it's created for anyone interested to join directly. Or any contrary opinion?

You sounded like who was tired of trying to do business.... So I told u what u should be told.... If u want to know something then u find it.... The way u went about talking about business acumen like it's something special.... Yes people that do apprenticeship come out successful when they start because the apprenticeship was more than just serving someone.... Have u bothered asking an apprentice the mistakes he made when running his master's business..... It takes experience to get good at something.... Anyway if you want to know what skills u should acquire that is left for u...
There's the point! Yet, you seem to still not get it.

Must one re-invent the wheel or suffer failure instead of simply learning from the experience of others? huh

Well, thank you. That's okay now.

No one is born with business acumen.... Life is a business ur loss is someone else gain.... You want to invest and didn't read at least 2good books on investment or 2 courses even if it's free....
U want to invest and you don't know how the business is run.....
You want to invest and can't ascertain your risk appetite.....

U don't want to run a business... Because u have no business acumen... Do u think people are born with it.... Life is a learning curve my friend... U never get perfect... U must make mistakes... There's no skill that can't be sold....
When you were trying to ride a bicycle did you stop because you fell??..... When you were playing ball did you stop because you injured??....
You want to run because you lost money....
If you don't know something try to know it.... Not telling us about passion or business acumen or scam deals....

Learn then earn..... But if you are comfortable with where you are then stay there and let's see what you will be saying when it starts raining.....
You don't want to leave ur comfort zone or take risk but want reward..... It's not possible...

If you go to a financial advisor tomorrow and he asks you how much you want to make in the next 5yrs.... Am sure you won't know...

I won't give u any idea it's left for u to find what you are looking for...
Thanks for responding. Initially, I thought I got what you were getting at, but in the end you lost me.

So you don't think business acumen has something to do with learning, experience? If yes, why then do some people - our Igbo brothers, especially - do apprenticeship and all that before setting up a business? So, business is something you just rush into without having understudied someone to know a few tricks of how things work? Really?! huh

Did you miss the part where I stated that even it is a suggestion of skills to acquire? I know I have got things to learn. But that obviously made no difference to you.

If I am going to be frank, your response didn't add anything to me. It appears all you wanted to do was to be critical.

@daddio you might just be lucky to find someone to give you one. It's possible.

@Zubbyy sorry, I don't think I can consider that option. But I appreciate you sharing the opportunity.

Thanks @healthserve.

ATTAHDYE:
simply put it in treasury bills or fixed deposits. the income may be small but it's better than leaving it in your account or losing it.

once that is done, take time to look for a business you can do and have absolute control over. don't rush anything.
Thanks, and to dake40 as well.

Yes, I'd actually prefer treasury bills to investing in some dubious or obscure company because of past experience. But I want to explore other options first before considering treasury bills.

Regarding business, I am a complete newbie in that area. I don't seem to have the acumen. If you ask me, I'd say I'm going to need someone to understudy or a partner before I can venture into it.
BusinessRe: Advice Needed: What Can I Do With This Money (and My Life)? by ThaThinka(op): 10:15am On Sep 16, 2019
Thank you all for responding.

@ishadfurnitures, I will try to get in touch to learn more about that.

@healthserve, as I noted already, I am no longer interested in putting my money in a company, especially any venture I won't directly be in charge of. The only exceptions to that may be government, banks and regulated companies (not just registered with the CAC). Sorry.

@Zubbyy please what sort of investment is that? I'd like if you could at least give more hint about it here before we take things private.

I wish to request that whomever would like to advise me on this should please first give a hint of their helpful idea here before requesting to contact me privately.

As I stated previously, I am also ready to learn a skill that can enhance my earning potential. Please provide suggestions of that as well, if you have any.

Thank you all once again for your time.

Please spare me a few minutes of your time.

I know you have probably seen several other posts as this one on the forum and maybe you're tired of them. But I think mine is a bit peculiar, which is why I'm posting.

I have about N1 million that is currently under-utilised in my account(s) and I don't know what to do with it for now. Yet, inflation is real!

The problem is that I don't really have business acumen...yet. I have not had good experience with someone in business, so I am somewhat 'handicapped' in that aspect.

I have tried investing some money in the past 1-2 years and I think I have lost almost 200k in the process. So I'm not overly excited about investing anymore in any company, except it's nationally recognised.

Considering my situation, is there any suggestion on what I can do with this money, even if it's just to invest in myself? What skill(s) would you suggest I acquire, if any? I have more than enough time right now to learn something new.

Please help! Thanks in anticipation.

InvestmentInvestment Caution: Petroleum Products Marketing Professionals (PPMP) Energy by ThaThinka(op): 11:13am On Aug 15, 2019
I wish to advise whomever may be considering investment with Petroleum Products Marke Professionals (PPMP) Energy Nigeria Limited to exercise caution.

The said company isn't remitting promised returns. What makes the whole thing more annoying is that they don't even bother so much provide to any update on why they are not keeping to their promises. Going to their office made no difference. They carry on as if nothing is out of place.

This is not an attempt to de-market this business, but just a warning to whomever may be thinking of investing with it. The individual who falls into a ditch should teach those coming behind a lesson. Peace.
InvestmentRe: Petroleum Products Marketing Professionals ,PPMP . How True Is This Investment C by ThaThinka: 1:02pm On Jul 25, 2019
I'd advise whomever may be considering investment in this business to only put in an amount he or she won't lose sleep over. You'd very likely be disappointed if you allow yourself to fall for the promised monthly returns and go ahead to invest in millions. My two cents.

By extension, I now think it's risky business putting your money in the hands of some people promising to pay you interest at certain intervals. They often fail to deliver.

You'd probably do well doing something with your money by yourself. Now, I think the only things that are worth investing in are government securities and, maybe, some companies that carry out regulated business operations.
Christianity EtcRe: God's Failure As A Moral Standard by ThaThinka: 1:04pm On Jun 20, 2019
Ihedinobi3:
First, I'm a Christian, that is, a person who believes in Jesus Christ - God become Man to die for all human sins and save us from the Lake of Fire. And I believe completely in the Bible. This is for perspective, so that you know where my answers are coming from.

To begin with, the problem with conversations like this is that words are abused. The term "God" has a meaning, for example, but your use of it has rendered the term to essentially be nonsense.

God, by definition, is the source of all moral definitions. This is what makes Him the true moral standard. Only He decides what is right and wrong. That is what it means to be God in this specific issue of morality. In other words, there is no possibility of determining right and wrong or judging what is right and what is wrong without reference to an absolute source of such definitions. If you disagree with this, then there really is nothing further to talk about.

If you do agree, on the other hand, then the question is who is the true God and how He defines right and wrong so that we can judge ourselves and others by His standard. Otherwise, it is completely meaningless to talk about right and wrong.

Now, the only sense in which Christians have any kind of case to answer is when we read in the Old Testament that people are killed for certain bad behavior, but in the New, there is no mandate placed upon believers to kill anybody for bad behavior, and other similar questions. Your question is not along those lines. Rather, what you have written up is really a bit of a confusion.

God is not a human being or any kind of creature, so that anyone can accuse Him of hypocrisy, for example. That is nonsense. If God commands that adulterers should be stoned to death, but human beings essentially forgive such people because of so-called human rights, it is not sane to claim that human beings are better than God. The reason is that the human rights that human beings recognize must have an origin that requires explanation. That they are intuitive only indicates that they are part of human nature. The question then is: is human nature self-existing or does it have a source?

If it has a source, then the human rights we recognize proceed from that source. That source can cancel those rights under certain conditions. So, for example, a murderer can have their right to life revoked by that source.

For Christians, that source is God the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. God created human beings with a conscience from which our conceptions of human rights and responsibilities derive. It is Him Who decides for us what is right and what is wrong.

If therefore God says that a human being forfeits their right to life by apostasy and seeking to seduce other believers into apostasy with them, then it is exactly right to kill an apostate. If He says that no believer should take it upon themselves to kill an apostate, then it would be wrong to kill one.

That really is the calculus of Faith.
Sir, I sent you an email. I need your opinion on something which I think don't belong here or in public.

Hello. I was wondering if there is anyone I can understudy or partner with for farming here. I think I may have interest in agriculture, but the last time I worked on a farm was about 24 years ago.

I think it'll be foolhardy if I were to just jump into agriculture without knowledge of how things run currently. Besides, I don't know about the marketing aspect yet. Anyone to help?

If there's a school or centre you can recommend for training, that'd be cool as well. I am based in Lagos. Thanks.

To answer your questions:

1. All paper in each stages is always written in every diet, what happen is, you just have to sit for the one you need to write... No postponement as to whatever reason it may be.

2. You can defer as much as you like, in as much as its within 5 years, (10diets) you're good to go

I hope that help
It sure does. Bless.

@ harjibolar10. I was wondering if you could clarify a couple more things for me.

1. Will all papers for Foundation Level be written during the May diet or will some be postpone till later in the year?
2. After completing the Foundation Level, must one proceed immediately to the Skill Level or one can register for that whenever one feels like?

Thanks.

CareerRe: ICAN May 2023 Diet Exam - Let's Meet Here by ThaThinka: 12:24pm On Mar 05, 2019
harjibolar10:
Like you've seen, 7k is the fee for registration, plus extra #300 as charges (that's if you want to do all processes by your self, but if not) another fees of not less than #500 for registration on the internet and everything (its based on the judgment of whoever that wants to help you sha)

As to exemption; the exemption that you have to pay is for the paper that you won't have to sit for, (because ICAN believed you'd have been thought extensively during your undergraduate years) so you'll have to pay for it. You'll pay according to what you see on the guidelines, 18.7k I guess. This can only be done after you've been given Reg number.

Examination fee; after you must have finish the exemption processes, then the examination fee will be communicated to you via the "financial status" link that you'll get access to with your Reg number. Then you'll now make another new payment as you see on your status. You're paying for the papers you're sitting for.

Base on the budget, the exam fees and the exemption fee are inversely related. The higher the exemption fee, the lower the exam fee will be and vice versa. I'll advice you check the recently released exam fees to know how much to pay.

Concerning tuition house, that depend on where you are, I mean in term of budget, the fee varies base on location. And if you think you're the type that comprehend easily, you may try studying at home... Its just foundation

And lastly, it's not late to sit for May Diet, but the earlier the better.

Thanks, I hope that help

I am an economics graduate. I have been searching for information on how to register for ICAN Foundation Level and the associated fees for the stage. From my research, it was clear I needed to first pay N7,000 for registration. But it's not clear how much I should expect to pay after that.

1. Is the amount displayed on the 'Exemption Guidelines and Fees' page for B.Sc Economics the total fee I should expect to pay?
2. Will whatever fee I have to pay cover the examinations?
3. How much in total should I budget to complete this first stage if I want to do self-study or to register at a centre?
4. Is it still possible to register for the May exams now?

Please help.
