I lived in the UK for some years and it could get lonely and quickly go downhill from there but you can do something about it. When next you come visit you could take a trip and lend helping hands to some poor people living in squalor here. You'd be surprised what a quid would do for some people and observe how happy they seem to be even in deprivation. It might do a great deal to your perspective about your actual living condition and probably realise that you are likely being too hard on yourself.

The UK is home of and schooled many of the greatest scientists, historians, philosophers, sociologists etc from Adam Smith, Newton, Darwin, to Hawkins.
