Angelfrost: Thank you for your response....
Firstly, there is no "health situation". Please, don't be fooled by these media antics. They are all down to eye service.
There is a pandemic (I can never deny or play this down)... So, the way forward is simple and outlined below:
1. Quit spreading fear and panic. It won't work on the teeming majority. Rather intensively preach, teach and sensitize the masses on preventive guidelines (especially the grassroot).
2. Put firm restrictions on air travel in and out to highly endemic nations (England being top of the current pile). This is not as difficult as you might have been led to think, it's all politics to your leaders... This also ought to have been in place long before now, and even prior to Number 1 above.
3. Strictly and unwaveringly compel all incoming travellers to be tested and retested (if already tested abroad), observe monitored self isolation for the globally accepted time frame before being allowed into general population... There ought to be no exceptions to this.
4. Number 3 above should and must be applied to all land and water entry borders as well... Anyone finding this impossible to comply with should stay the fvck away from Nigeria... No exceptions too.
5. Be firmer in enforcing preventive guidelines among citizenry at federal and state levels.
With the above in place, why on earth would there be a need to lock any state or people down?!! There would be absolutely no necessity to punish the economy and impoverish the people... This is what smart nations are already doing... It's just commonsense!!!
If I were a governor, I would never lock down my state for any silly reason... Governors joining the international bandwagon are either being wicked, selfish, or crooked!!!
We are an independent and sovereign nation. Let us act like one for a change!!! Copying nations to lock down when you can never be close to them economically smacks of serious stupidity!!! Makes sense. I agree wholeheartedly. Even developed nations deeply ravaged by the virus are being wary of lockdowns at the moment. Thanks. |

Angelfrost: ...And what proof do you have that we haven't gotten close to that number of infected/carrier cases?!!
You think infected cases are only those who come down with severe symptoms?!! Are you testing anywhere close to the capacity of America and Europe?!!
Please, don't flatter yourself. We contained nothing, are containing nothing, and will never be able to contain a damn thing... Forget the media grandstanding of NCDC. They have to justify their high wages.
Ask yourself why state governors reneged on initial banning of crossover services... They knew the charade won't hold.
A total shutdown didn't achieve anything with regards to containment of spread, as it was not adhered to by almost all Nigerians. It only worsened the financial health of most Nigerians... It went on to set the stage for Endsars crisis. Another one will be simply catastrophic.
It's quite funny that it's largely the very affluent and privileged few that are calling for widespread restrictions and even lockdown.
Your fear mongering will cost us even far more!!! Fact!!! Angelfrost, I quite agree with your position that another lockdown will be economically counter productive and that the NCDC/taskforce efforts have done little to contain the spread of the virus. However, you have not stated the way forward in managing the health situation. Surely it cannot be just to leave everything to go on unchecked as that will be grossly irresponsible of the Government. |

Maybe the guy is part of the 10% outliers in which the vaccine would fail. It means we still have a long way to go in bringing down this frustrating pandemic.
Since they are saying one needs to take two doses to achieve 95% efficacy. In 9ja, to be able to take the first dose will be war due to our mago-mago peculiarities, let alone the second dose. So in all likelihood, we should be looking at 2nd half of 2021 as the realistic timeline for effective vaccinations for Nigerians.
We will be alright las las.

See lame excuse. They can't stomach the thought of Messi breaking Pele's record. So they are including unofficial goals scored in friendly club matches. So who told them that Messi did not score in friendly club matches too, or all his goals for Barcelona junior side when he was still under-17.
Anyway, only official club matches count when assessing a player's club goals. How do you assess a player's brilliance in non-competitive games?
Santos should go and take a backseat joor. |

Lol, An award to massage CR7's ego.
For those who don't know, one of CR7's companies is one of the sponsors of the award. Also, Marca a Real Madrid based journal is one of the chief stakeholders/shareholders of the awarding organization.
So, in all honesty, who else do you expect a CR7 sponsored organization give the award to?
Moreover, the selection of Salah as a better player of this premature century ahead of Zidane, Ronaldinho, Kaka, Ronaldo De Lima, Iniesta, Henry and Robben puts the nail in the coffin for the lack of absolute credibility of this award which has "bought" written all over it. |

unatryooh: I am struggling to find where I said so. I was pointing out the fact that even the so called warm weather isn't rosy.
I would think by now you should have understood that you were quick to reach conclusion on my statement without asking for further clarification.
Edit.
I don't know what you do for a living. But I will put this out for those who care. Results from global studies more especially based on self reported data should be interpreted with utmost caution.
Using extreme weather for example. Extreme hot weather are mostly found in poor or third world countries ( by third world I meant as per economy not their involvement in world wars. Before you accuse me of something I did not say again ). These countries are notorious for having poor records and more so under reporting.
It could be that globally the true magnitude of the difference in the mortality associated to cold weather and hot weather is what is reported or the magnitude cold be less if those poor resource countries have the capability and will to report and update their data.
Let me bring this home for you. I recall a certain flood incident in Nigeria (I won't mention the community). NEMA was quick on ground collected data and it took them several months to get around to analysing and reporting their findings.
By the time they did some of the identified fammers that needed help were already dead several months before the arrival of aids. Most of aids were already bad after sitting several months in warehouses while waiting for data from the field before disbursement.
This is more than 2 years and I am yet to find that specific data on one of European global extreme weather database. You stated and I quote "Experience master, did you know that more people die from heat waves each year than from cold?" Now that statement above is a complete lie. So saying a lot of story subsequently that is irrelevant to the purported statement does not make any sense. I suggest that you swallow your mistake and move on. Progression in science is not based on the kind of irrelevant long-winded reasonings you are exhibiting here. I looked at the edited part you added and see that you are even contradicting yourself. If studies that demonstrate that cold weather is more dangerous should be interpreted with caution simply because of possible incomplete data from tropical 3rd world countries, on what logical basis are you then asserting the opposite so confidently without any verifiable data |

unatryooh: Another one quick to type. Did you read my comments about nresearch on cold killing more than heat. Did you read the short comings of the objections in the paper.
If I would stick to your line of argument do you know that more people die of heat in Nigeria than cold? Over the years more people have died of extreme heat than cold in warm climate. Do you see my point?
But on a serious note my point to you guys is that people in tropical climate have issued to contend with and shoving snow is the least of things to complain about.
In addition can you point out where I said that extreme weather is not an issues? Meanwhile can you point out any place with relative extreme hot weather whose opposite is that of Arctic and Antarctica that people live in? Extreme weather both cold and hot are dangerous. You make me laugh. No shortcomings of any research can disprove the fact that globally, cold weather is a higher leading cause of death than hot weather. Your arguments are here and there and they lack a tangible focal point. You saying more people die of heat in India and Nigeria than cold. Lol, before nko, are those not tropical countries? Is it heat that will kill people more in Iceland for example when its a temperate country? This line of thought isn't fit for an intellectual discourse as it does not negate the fact that Cold weather kills more people directly than hot weather GLOBALLY. And I mentioned the Sahara desert as a perfect contrast to the Antarctica. Yet more people live in the Sahara region (Mali, Mauritania, Niger, Libya, Algeria, Egypt, Sudan, Chad, Western Sahara, Northern Nigeria) than the Antarctica and Arctic combined (even though both combined are larger in size than the Sahara). That you do not know this fact portrays you as a pseudo-intellectual. I have no problem with you having problem with the Lady's snow-shovelling time. What I have an issue with is you saying that Cold weather is less dangerous than hot weather globally and trying to justify the false assertion wrongly, instead of just admitting the obvious gaffe and moving on. |

unatryooh: For the fact that life has given her a leg up and she chose to hold on to little inconvenience is what pissed me off ( without me considering there could be other underlying reasons for her complaints).
Bros I sieve through reports of children health across the globe everyday and of women's health. I get piss when I see people with better opportunities in life nag about things that deos not matter.
Here most of my colleagues have learnt not to complain about the train or metro delaying for 5 minutes (for them it ruin their joy for the rest of the day) . Funny thing is that most of them that have lived elsewhere Africa and South America never complain about the little live inconveniences but they have come to appreciate life more.
Yes, I should have chose my choice of words nicely but being a Nigerian "you know as e dey do us for body" For someone who has been living abroad for a while and who likes to write and research a lot, your display of ignorance here is mindboggling. That you are trying to downplay the severity of an extremely cold climate on human welfare is startling. Its not a coincidence that the Arctic and Antarctica are less inhabited than the Sahara region. How the heavens could you ignorantly say that heat kills more people than cold so confidently and then try to justify it with some lame humidity vs temperature theory when your gaffe was exposed? Its not even close at all. If as a research inclined person, you propagate unfounded lies like this all in a bid to criticize someone's opinion of their living conditions, then your sense of objectivity is profoundly suspect. Extremely cold weather is a big deal, even to the whites. That they have found a way to cope with it does not make it less of an issue. |

"Elite defending takes more than rough tackling. Until the 1990s when player fitness levels improved due to technological advancements, the level of defending was not as good, as defenders where slower then and typically left more spaces in between. They try to make up for this defect with last gasp rough tackles. I watched many of Maradona's games (recorded tapes) for Napoli. Teams were not parking the bus against him, so most times defenders approach him individually and get rough on him. Messi has faced a whole bus parked defence in over 70 percent of the games he played. Watch Maradonas goal of the century and Messi's similar goal against Getafe. You'd notice that the English defenders were slower and Maradona eliminated them one after the other, but in Messi's goal there were two markers on him at the same time on at least two occasions, so he had to dribble faster than Maradona, to break through."

ogbonti: you are really a kid who knows just Messi and never found time to research the players you compared to Messi above
I use to think Maradona was an averagely good player who only shone at Mexico 86, pulled a fluke at the world cup against England with that lucky dribble and managed to win the world cup until I watched multiple documentaries on Diego Maradona - The attack and assault Diego faced on the field of play without referee protection, If Messi faced 1/10th of it he will be long retired since 2010. These days, ordinary slight body touch a player gets a yellow card or even red card, when Maradona was destroying defenders and scoring amazing goals, a player can only earn a red card if he strikes a blow to your face - every other tackling including pushing, slide tackle from behind, knee hacking, jersey pulling etc were almost always acceptable and the crowd will have to boo and scream for the referee to warn the offending player. IT WAS LIKE WRESTLEMANIA.
SAME GOES FOR PELE - Do you know the RED and YELLOW card was ONLY introduced to the 1970 Mexico World Cup? Which was Pele's last world cup? So how did the likes of Garrincha, Revelino, Eusebio, Zagalo, Pele, Bobby Charlton etc survive merciless tackles? To call Messi or even CR7 the GOAT is an insult to these greats who never got the referee protection that made Messi and CR7 win multiple WPOY awards.
I was one of those who underrated Pele and called it all hype based on the stories I heard of his exploits until I watched hours of his documentary. If Pele could be made a 26 year old again today, with exactly the same ability he had in 1966 - He will be a Ballon D' Or winner over Messi and Ronaldo and Lewandowski. PELE will dribble defenders so smoothly and neatly that they wont even see him to kick or push, and it was so effortless - He is the greatest passer of the ball (same with Maradona) and his freekicks and finishing are terribly amazing !!!! I conceded just last week that PELE was indeed the greatest and Diego is the co-greatest. NO ONE, I REPEAT NO ONE SHOULD EVER COMPARE MESSI WITH PELE OR MARADONA. Messi and CR7 became great by referee protection, not so with Pele and Maradona, they battled opposing defenders kicking and fighting them with the referee turning a blind eye!!!! Hmm, where do I start from. First I ain't a kid. I probably started watching ball earlier than you since you said you thought Maradona was an average player. At least I had known he was head and shoulders above his peers since 1994. While you have put up a number of reasonable points in your post, permit me to correct some over exaggerations. First, it is a misconception that the quality of defending is based on the frequency of rash tackles made. In many African countries today, those sort of tackles you described are still common with poor pitches. Yet when these rugged African teams take on a a Manchester City, they'd still get walloped 7-0 with a Raheem Sterling probably scoring a brilliant solo goal amidst the rough tackles. Elite defending takes more than rough tackling. Until the 1990s when player fitness levels improved due to technological advancements, the level of defending was not as good, as defenders where slower then and typically left more spaces in between. They try to make up for this defect with last gasp rough tackles. I watched many of Maradona's games (recorded tapes) for Napoli. You'd notice that the English defenders were slower and Maradona eliminated them one after the other, but in Messi's goal there were two markers on him at the same time on at least two occasions, so he had to dribble faster than Maradona, to break through. And while it is true that red and yellow cards were introduced in Mexico 70, players had always been cautioned and sent off long before but by word of mouth from the referee. Placindo Galindo of Peru was the first player to be sent off in a world cup match in 1930. So the card thingy does not imply anything of note in this debate. Talent will always be talent and will stand out regardless of the era. Personally I believe Messi especially the (2008 - 2013) version will make a mince meat of the sub-par defending of the 60s to the 80s, regardless of the rough tackles. FYI, I hold Pele and Maradona in high esteem and have never underrated them. And I have stated many times here that I consider Messi, Pele and Maradona as equals and nickname them the three GOATs on the basis of their supreme talents. |

Lionel Andres Cutticcini Messi, Congratulations on another milestone. You are the Greatest Footballer of All Time. Your status as the GOAT is not really defined by whether you break Pele's goal-scoring record or not. Those are mere statistical aesthetics. Your position at the summit had been long sealed by your incomparable talented displays, impact and all-round abilities demonstrated consistently for over a decade and a half.
You are Messi. You strike fear into the heart of defenders like no other player ever such that they always swarm around you in threes and fours, yet your brilliance still shines through time and time again. If football were to have a face, it would be you. If all footballers were to have an highlights reel of their magical moments on the field, perhaps Pele may have a good 75-minutes show, Maradona/Ronaldo De Lima may perhaps have an hour and a half of true brilliance on display, but yours would outspan these your closest competitors by at least the duration of a full football match.
A record number of the world player of the year is testament to your individual supremacy, which is all that matters in the end.
Shine on King Leo. |
