Education › Re: The People In The Land Of Nod: Bible Question by thorpido(m): 10:52pm On Mar 01, 2015
Sanchez01:
Hehehehe! The topic is somewhat tricky though... I pray God helps me out in trying to explain this.

The Bible skipped many details for reasons known. These details included the growing up of some characters, the specific number of children, the number of years when something took place. Though not all but some... For example, the Bible never told us the developmental stage of Adam when he was formed by God, i.e, we were never told if he was formed to the teen level, youth level or adult stage. We assume he was formed straight into the adult stage. Also, the Bible never specified how long Adam and Even spent in Eden before eating from the tree which caused their downfall. These are just some of the details that were skipped, probably the need to include them was not necessary.

However, the assumption seems to be that Cain and Abel were the first two children of Adam and Eve. Although Cain does seem to be the firstborn, the text is not clear that Abel was the second born, but only that he was the second son. Later, the narrative indicates that Adam and Eve produced "other sons and daughters." So, it is possible that Adam and Eve produced daughters between the births of Cain and Abel. It is also likely that others sons and daughters were produced after the birth of Abel. We don't know how old Cain and Abel were when Cain murdered his brother because that part was also skipped as many other parts in the Bible, but they seem to be at least young adults, since they are both engage in a trade for their living.

The second thing one notices is Cain's seeming paranoia about being found and revenge being taken against his for killing Abel. The only way this makes sense is if the brothers and sisters of Abel were upset that Cain had killed their brother (you could remember that he was scared that Abel might be avenged). Although the period of time between the birth of Cain and the death of Abel is not given in the Bible, it would seem that this period was probably over 100 years, since the birth of Adam's next son, Seth is said to have occurred when Adam was 130 years old. Adam and Eve could have produced many daughters during that period of time.

So, the Genesis narrative suggests that Cain had other brothers and sisters when he was exiled by God. One of those sisters married Cain (or more likely had already been married to Cain when he killed his brother), became pregnant and gave birth to Enoch somewhere east of Eden. The next problem that arises is the claim that Cain "built a city." To us, in the 21st century, this evokes images of skyscrapers and high density housing. However, the original Hebrew word, translated "city," merely had the meaning of a place that was guarded by a watch or with a wall. At its minimum, the Hebrew root referred to an encampment or post. So, it is entirely possible that Cain could have built such a "city."

Skeptics have pointed out that the only viable solution to the problem of Cain's wife (Cain marrying his sister) suffers from theological problems, since close relations were not allowed to marry according to Jewish law. However, all of these events happened before the law was given. According to the Apostle Paul, when there is no law, there can be no violation of the law or sin. So, since the law against incest was not given until thousands of years later, there was no theological problem with Cain marrying his sister.

Just like Cain took one of his sisters for a wife, it would have been possible that the other sons did the same and made for themselves a settlement which was described as a 'city' in the Bible. Just like I pointed out above, the 'city', according to Jewish traditions them, was a settlement of people which is fenced or properly defended from outsiders. So it could be right to say that was the say thing the Bible referred to but the use of the word 'city' is wrongly rendered, obviously, because it does not project the proper mental image of a city in our minds.

Conclusively, inbreeding was not condemned until thousands of years later after the laws were made, and that best explain how the descendants of Adam were able to multiply. smiley
You get an A from me for this.
People read the bible literarily and conclude. They forget to think about chronology and the fact that a lot of things were skipped obviously because it would have made the volume of the book too enormous.
That is why the bible admonishes us to 'study' and not just 'read'.

Keppy,
I was going to start by asking you about events in your past but you've already offered some information.
You need to let go of your past and take every relationship like a blank exercise book page.Don't go into relationships with cynicism. It kills it off.Think that every new relationship will work.

There are basic elements that help to build trust: openness, honesty, reliability, truth, sharing information and speaking out feelings, keeping secrets and loyalty.
Look out for these elements in your relationships.

Most importantly, don't get under the sheets.Give yourself time to really know someone.

Infact that is the major reason for this thread, since you believe the gospel of jesus is the bible according to mark mattew PAUL and co. Did jesus read all these gospel attributed to him?
Someone already answered your question and you are still asking the same thing which shows you don't understand.
Now can you provide the original copy of the gospel I asked for?

Same way I feel.
Herzumpther,do your home work well.
I'm yoruba and married from Cross River. The same initial reservations your father has was what my in-laws had. They said a yoruba guy will marry another wife and neglect their daughter.I understood their fears. It's partially true in the west.
However, you can't generalise. Moreover, the generation has changed.I personally would not disappoint God,my wife and my kids(and some people who look up to me).
I would personally be hurt if your dad finally agrees and somewhere along the line, Lekan disappoints.I sort of like inter-tribal marriages.
Do your homework really well.

You know the problem I have with islamic knowledge.Islam denies that the gospel of Jesus in the bible was corrupted but the same islam cannot provide the original/authentic gospel of Jesus.
I think that's a big failure on it's part.

Are we talking about a willhuh I'm talking about the gospel of jesus, and so far we are told dat he was preaching the gospel all around you call the book of matthew, mark, luke and john the Gospels.and Jesus didnt read any of them. Now what Gospel was Jesus preaching? is it the gospel of paul? or the contradicting gospels of mark mattew luke and johnhuh

Nope. unless you are saying that the gospel jesus preached is inconsistent and contradicting.

Quran has been in writing during his time, though wasnt compiled together during his time.
I spoke about a will as an analogy. It's obvious you didn't understand it.
There is a knowledge of Jesus Christ and even the best of your islamic scholars cannot understand it.
Prophet John( bin Zakariyah as you call him) said ,he that cometh from above is above all: he that is of the earth is earthly, and speaketh of the earth:he that cometh from heaven is above all.And what he hath seen and heard, that he testifieth;and no man receiveth his testimony. He that believeth hath seth to seal that God is truth(John 3)

You keep debating about unnecessary things;where Jesus was born,if he read the bible bla bla bla.......
Have you found knowledge in Him?

Some muslims and their display of ignorance!
When is a will read out?Is it when the owner of the will dies or when he is still alive?
An understanding of what i just asked gives the needed answer.

Even the quran was not compiled while Muhammed was alive.

I do not think he should ask his mama about that. For God sake ,he is got another child of 8years out side by another girl who happens to be his first girl . It is possible the mother has promised the other lady marriage and the lady has gotten so committed to his family [if you get what i mean ]so i do not think his mother will ever want to allow this newbie to come tag along in the game . The matter is just vict bro has refused to grow and tame his 'thing, and hope it will not later become his trouble abi he will start shouting to the high heavens of witch tomorow !this things have great repercusions o!on the other hand ,the second lady seem too demanding . Is it because this young man has been very liberal with her family ?he has even sent money to her parent for God sake ,let her cut down her budget and adjust pls . Her parents aint dead na!they can still cater for her even if the young man refuses to play his part. I would want to suggest he cuts off from her if she continues with vict outrageous demanding attitude .i just hope some persons are not pushing her in to this over demanding character ? '
He should still discuss with the mother even if her preference is for the first babymama. The Op doesn't seem to be in a relationship with that one.

When you keep siring babies instead of doing the proper thing by asking for a lady's hand in marriage and doing the formal ceremony,it breeds a lot of problems.
Can you come down to Nigeria, visit the girl's parents and fix a date for wedding?Try and talk to your mother too and find out why she is not on good terms with the lady.

Ndo.Usually as the pregnancy progresses, getting to sleep is a challenge. What you do is try to catch up on as much sleep as you can during the day.
For the cough, you should get some medication to use.You should consult your doctor for that.
The baby is growing bigger so you have more weight to carry. Not to worry, your body is capable.

The thread is beginning to wind down but I feel there is so much unsaid
Everybody appreciates praise
And it makes them want to do more.It works.

I wrote earlier that in my quest to change my husband and beat him into shape,I was the one that changed my actions and approach and that change produced the change I was looking for.
It works with men, reasonable men I mean

Let me give a typical example
Azubuike is going to the store Saturday morning to buy shaving cream and I say please can you buy me a few things like gallon of milk, ovaltine and before I say the third one,he says ,please you may have to go to the store yourself later and get those but before he heads off I will be upset and retort " azubuike you will also drink that milk and so will your children, you always do blah blah blah, you never do blah blah blah ,he slams the door as I am speaking and leave, knowing that I will be waiting to continue from where I stopped when he returns,he may decide to make that 30 minutes outing a 3 hour absence.
Of course I am fuming and boiling over and waiting for him to return.

Now

Same scenario,I can assure you 99% his answer will be yes

What changed?
I changed my method

I will ask,he says no,I will say ok see you soon then.He leaves
Then he comes home with that gallon of milk

I figured this method works much better
Speaking not in anger, not in a combative way, works with men, they hate their authority challenged
So I adopted that means
It works so well,I can't even begin to tell you
There is practically nothing I will ask of my husband that he wouldn't do today
The singular key was learning not to challenge his authority

Women want to know that they mean the world to their husbands and that he loves them and they want to feel it and hear it
They need to be reassured that he loves them constantly
That is how we are by our feminine make up
I learned by experience, not from a book that with the same intensity with which women crave that assurance of affection, men crave to know that they are respected and are seen as the head of their home and that their opinion matters.
I am a pretty strong female character but I know exactly what not to do at home and I didn't learn it overnight
Whenever there is a conflict of opinion in family issues,I always go with what Oga decides
Always.
Guess what
Many times,he will tow my line because I didn't argue with his
One thing I may add is also the way the male brain works.Women are better able to think of many things at the same time but the male brain tends to focus on one thing at a time.
Telling your husband as he's going out to get something to pick A for you and then pick B around the corner and then........kind of frustrates men.We want to focus more on things we set out to do at a time rather than having to think of what others(wife) want us to get.
My wife also sends me on those errands and by the time I get back,I must have forgotten one item so by the time she starts saying get this, get that,I ask her to get them herself.
Your hubby eventually gets them because this time it was on his mind rather than you 'putting' it there.
