GNBohr: For your information, every language has a derogatory word for the people of other languages. Nairaland is replete of such descriptions or classifications with, Hausa, Igbo,Yoruba and other tongues aiming at each other. Remember without people there is no history and without history there is no geography.
Pally what is the meaning of "Derogatory". Is it meant for everyday use? Is it to be used in mainstream media? Think before you post.

O.D.B.:
then you might as well arrange the map with the west to the north.

The concept of which part is north is in relation to how our earth spins and the axis of rotation.

stop spreading B.S.
He was talking about North-South orientation. Not North vs East/West orientation. With the earth hanging "freely" in space, who is to determine which part is top or bottom.

@ OP, I agree with you on the point of that term "sub-saharan" having a racist connotation. I'd always been bothered about the basis for which that term was derived. Looking at it closely, it seeks to divide Africa into white/arabic Africans and other black Africans.

The Sahara in comparison with the rest of Africa, is a minority, in all aspects; economy, population, landmass. So why should the rest of Africa be viewed as a subject of the Sahara? I don't know how to put this clearly in words. Why should the entire rest of Africa be defined by the Saharan part? It's like saying the rest of Africa is a minority compared to the Saharan part.

And don't tell me any story about the Saharan region being located geographically above the rest part of Africa. Cos you'll have to explain why North America is not likewise known as sub-Canadian America.

I view any black African adult who uses that term "sub-Sahran Africa", as a half-baked neo-colonialist. Simple!

Well there you have it. You've just stated your criteria for judging the song.

Till tomorrow, "Yori-Yori" and that"Remember" song still enjoy good air-play. Not to talk of this recent one they did with wizkid.

Bracket are stepping up the game when it comes to Naija love-songs.

I noticed that whenever a topic is being discussed and gets taken over by tribal trolls, that first offensive post (before other posters retort back) tends to come from a particular ethnic group. I need to go round NL and confirm that but I'm pretty sure.

Go to politics and non-celebrity crimes section. The ethnic bashing tends to start with "omo Igbo" this or "aboki" that.

That is shameful.

BusinessRe: Ghanaian Government Closes Nigerian Businesses In Accra. by Tinyemeka(m): 9:05pm On Jul 06, 2012
dadde: Ms. Tetteh noted that the provisions in the GIPC Act 478 was applicable to Ghanaians and citizens of the Economic Community of West African Countries (ECOWAS), hence the need for non-Ghanaians to comply with the minimum investment requirement of $300,000.

The exercise went on despite strenuous efforts made by the visiting ECOWAS Parliamentary delegation to Ghana to intervene on behalf of ECOWAS nationals.

The President of the Nigerian Community in Ghana, Mr. Albert Bayor, joined hundreds of Nigerian businesses and called for a review of the law. They hoped that the visiting ECOWAS delegation could come to their aid.

The implementation of the GIPC Act 478, which is aimed at ensuring Ghanaians are not pushed out of business by foreign nationals, has irked some Nigerians and other ECOWAS nationals in the sub-region.

Recently, Nigeria, West Africa's largest economy, threatened to severe diplomatic ties with Ghana.

But, Ghana's Minister for Foreign Affairs, Alhaji Muhammad Mumuni, who said he was unaware of moves to sever diplomatic ties, said his country had not violated the rights of foreign businesses by implementing the GIPC Act.

Alternatively, you could limit it to T&E InterLogistics.

Whitehorse: Well, i do know that from leaving Enugu through New Market to 9th Mile is very very bad as of Easter 2012 when i was there. i dont know about beyond 9th Mile cos i turned off there heading to Nsukka.

Those roads are federal roads, and federal roads are generally bad in the East...
They've dualised most of the road now. The stretch from Enugu to 9th mile has been completed. The other road from 9th mile to Enugu is almost complete. The problem is NB, NBC, Dangote and other trucks that break down or even capsize frequently along that road forcing commuters to use only one lane.

That ugwu Onyeama is the scary part of the journey. A very bad, accident-prone spot. People feel an evil spirit might even be in that area.

PROUD-IGBO:
Thanks for the pics and the effort you took in snapping them.

Maybe it's just me and the fact i'm something of a perfectionist, but i would advice the Governor to do a couple of things:

1) plant more trees by the road sides to give the city more of a lush green feel;

2) ban the pasting of posters willy-nilly as it defaces the city and itches my eyes just seeing them in pics angry;

3) have at least two well maintained and manicured parks where families can go to to 'catch their fun' (that phrase makes me laugh anytime i hear it- it's so Nigerian grin);

4) maintain all street and traffic lights, immediately fixing any that gets damaged (i noticed some street lights were missing some parts, and i didn't see the traffic lights that were installed a few years back, though i hope those are still working as well). Taking care of little things like these are a pointer to tell if the bigger things in a city are managed well.

I also hope there's an adequate public water scheme, and that the intracity bus service is still working and maintained well.

The key word is MAINTAINANCE.
The state govt does these things you listed. Believe me, the streets are swept everyday. As for the broken street lights; consequences of drunk, unruly drivers. There are Yellow cabs of Nissan Sunny make, IVM intra-city buses. Sullivan regularly carries out beautification projects in Enugu metropolis and road/street constructions in the sub-urban and rural areas. And he doesn't engage in all these unnecessary narcissistic adverts you find from most non-performing governors. The man is a silent, performing governor. And I'm not even an indigent of the state. LOL
BusinessRe: Bankers Are Frauds! by Tinyemeka(m): 8:30pm On Jun 29, 2012
bilms: The police is mostly regarded as the most corrupt people in Nigeria, this is due to their ability to force you to pay bribe against your wwill. Though, some people willingly pay,but most victims of the police are forced.

I am not talking from a third party narration,it actually happened to me,in fact just today.

I have been robbed by bankers so many times, when i mean robbed, i mean money taken from my account and not refunded. some times, it happened through the ATM machine refusal to dispense cash or just automatic deduction through account without meaningful explanation for the charges.

In all this situations,i did complain to the bank and they would promise to make refund, but they would end up not making any refund, but since the cash is not so much,i could not afford to be going to the bank all the time to make complain until the money is forgotten.

What happened today is so worst, its not a stolen money like that of ATM machine which usually happened due to error or automatic deduction which is termed a charge on some things not known, it is a first hand robbery. The same bankers would join their voice in condemning Farouk Lawal for taking bribe, they would say all sort of thing about police, they would even accuse NEPA of exploiting us,but what they do is far worst than all this entities joined together. Bankers are corrupt than the police, believe it or not, they are thieves and criminals with the exemption of the genuine bankers who uphold their integrity in Banking and observe the best practices.

It all happened this morning,i got a money gram to cash sent from the UK for an urgent assignment. For the urgency of this cash,i didn't want to go to my bank because it is far away, so i decided to branch the nearest bank ETB,when i got there,i was made to understand they don't cash money gram. the next bank close to it was spring bank,i went in and asked if they cash money gram and they said yes,but i was asked if i have an account with the bank which i answered no,for his reason, they made me realize they can't cash the money unless i have an account with them. This automatically make me realized i can't help but go to my bank.

Straight to Oceanic bank now Ecobank, they told me they don't cash money gram too,i quickly head to my other bank GTB and they said they don't cash it too. At this point, i was so depressed, considering all this hustle.
How on earth won't you be cashing money gram i questioned and i was calmed and told to go to UBA bank.

Upon reaching the UBA,i meet the guy at the Moneygram counter and i told him i want to cash money gram,he asked if i have an account with them and i replied no,he then said it would be some how cashing without account. I asked why must i have an account to cash money gram in a bank,it is suppose to be a money transfer which can be cashed anywhere,he said yes,but it is some times difficult. He said i should go to my bank or i would pay him something to do it,i said my bank don't cash moneygram and i was directed from there to come here.

He told me to sit while he get a teller,he got it and gave me to fill, telling me the difficulty of cashing it and charges i would pay. This is apart from the money gram charges which had already been paid to the bank. Upon cashing the fund, he didn't hand it over to me,he said i should tell how much he would remove from it, i said i don't no, as you can see, its a very small money aimed to be used for something very urgent,he insisted i tell him how much he would take, i don't know what to say. He said,it is the because of the amount involved,if not, he would be the one to charge me himself and if i can't pay,he wouldn't cash it.

At the end, you would be surprise on how much he deducted..... 10%. What a shame.
The first thing that came to my mind after reading your extremely stu.pid perambulating story, is to call you an extremely st.upid IDI.OT. But for the sake of peace, I would refrain from calling you an extremely st.upid Id.iot. When the guy made those comments about extorting money from you, why didn't you simply look for a superior officer to report the matter to?

When next you wish to receive money sent from abroad, please check for the billboards of whichever coy (Western Union or Moneygram) is displayed outside the bank, instead of migrating from building like an extremely ... ...

Guy you fall my hand. That's all I can say for now.

Spirit of Okija: My fiance and I went to see the Avengers movie and actually enjoyed the movie.. After the movie, we normally like to stay back and play a little kissy-smoochie.. Anyways, while we were sitted there, the hall had emptied out and the credits were still rolling.. Next thing we saw were two guys armed with torchlights run into the hall.. (remember that the lights were still out in the hall) and started a row by row sweep for valuables that may have been left behind by Cinema goers.. Immediately I saw this, I tapped my partner and we sat still until there sweep got to where we were sitted. Now the way they were in a hurry to do the sweep showed that they were intent on keeping their finds as it appeared like a race of 'first find, first keep'.. Anyways, when they saw us, they were shocked... So we made our way out of the cinema and into the general hall.. Just before we left, I decided to buy some chocolates from the popcorn stand.. While there I placed my Blackberry phone on the counter to fetch my wallet from my pocket.. I paid, walked out and went straight into my car.. I had started my engines and needed my phone to play some music when I realized that I had left it on the counter were I bought the popcorn.. IMMEDIATELY, I made a run for it back into the cinema. As i approached the counter, I had already spotted my phone still there.. NEXT THING, I saw this attendant (in Silverbird uniform) walk briskly past my eye line with my phone and my phone disappeared from the counter... I was like DARN!!!!!!!! That was hoodini style movement.. He didnt even miss a beat or hesitate.. SO I slowed down and followed him.. As soon as I saw him heading for the toilet, I called him and said he should please give me my phone.. The shocking part was that he denied having it.. I just pulled out my other phone and dialled the number and it rang in his pocket.. He just handed it to me with a half-baked apology and walked away..
O Lord!! I will punch the Id.iot. With all the anger in me. You can't imagine the way I feel now after reading your story. It's just too bad.

playboy19: I will advice you to go for the Toyota camry any day. You already know my reasons and again, if you're selling them back, you'll have a buyer for the toyota quicker than the Honda. To buy a second hand Honda car, people are always scared. They'll ask you over and over again why you are selling it. Trying to be sure that you're not offloading it cos of gear problem.

And if you are looking for luxury in the toyota camry, give it one. The A/C that comes with the toyota has no match. The speakers are top notch... the only boring part is the dash board of you which you can always buy a car dvd to pimp it up...Shikena

A Nissan MAXIMA for a first timer? Is that a joke? You sir knows nothing about cars or driving and maintaining a car in Nigeria.

Op, please stay away from all the cars he listed. As a first timer, they'll make you hate the idea of buying a car for the rest of your life.
True talk. Maxima and Altima cars will put you on nickname and first name basis with all the mechanics in town. You'll regret ever buying a car.

@ OP, as regards your dilemma, Honda has got great body designs and interiors. The car engine performs better than the Camry in my opinion. Downside: a lot of owners have complained about the gearbox. Treat your car well and it'll serve you well. That's all. The Camry is roomy all-round but is spartan in the interior. I will choose the Honda to the Camry anyday.

Piyke: @yahla let me first describe in detail what mine was doing then.

1. If you start the car in the morning there would be the humming sound from the bonnet that would increase in intensity if you turn the steering to any of the sides.
2. When you drive the car and it heats up, the noise reduces and only comes back when the car started again after cooling down.

Is this what yours is doing?
Mine makes that humming sound when the steering is turned i.e when the engine is still cold. Is it a fault? Remedies?

I also noticed that after one clumsy mechanic worked on the clutch-disc, I begun to hear some creaking sounds whenever the engine was cold and the car was running on low-speeds or in neutral. But after I traveled to the village and came back (road was very bad with pot-holes) I noticed that the creaking sound had stopped and the engine now runs much quieter. I truly considered this funny. Whether the gallop don shake the engine till the thing settle come tight properly.

What do I have to do about the steering hum abeg?
