Car TalkRe: What To Do When Your Brakes Fail? by Tinyemeka(m): 10:54am On Aug 09, 2012
Billyonaire: Auto: Shift Gear to N, then apply aux (hand) break and steer towards service lane. Dont panic.
Manual: Shift Gear to N, Match Clutch, Apply Hand break and steer towards service lane. Dont panic.
Guy! I beg to differ O. I don't know about the Auto. But for manual, when on high speed and you pull the hand brake, the car may roll over. I think it is safer to downshift to Gear 1, that is if you have have sufficient space. The lower gear would force the car to slow down to manageable speed (approx 25kmph).

I think it's safer to use d handbrake at this stage.

Talking about failed brakes, a cement coy truck experienced the same issue this morning around 9am @ 9th Mile corner. The driver just rammed the vehicle into the entrance gate of one bank building. Nobody was hurt fortunately.

PoliticsRe: Dangote Supported Oshiomhole's Re-Election With N900M! by Tinyemeka(m): 8:27am On Aug 04, 2012
Babasessy: Revealed!
Dangote Supported Oshiomhole's Re Election With N900m!

Information filtering just revealed one of the major backers of the successful re election bid of Governor of Edo State, Adams Oshiomhole.

The individual is business giant- Alhaji Aliko Dangote.

Informants claimed the Chairman of Dangote group supported the relected state helmsman with all of N900m for the just concluded exercise.
If the story is actually true, this the way I see it: Dangote already knew that Oshiomole would emerge winner. There is an investment in Edo which he wishes to expand aggressively. So he donates that money (of course given the amount, he'd want it done secretely). Money is "donated" under the guise of supporting the re-election, but is actually to endear him to Oshiomole. Oshiomole wins and Dangote eventually approaches him with his own business expansion proposal which Osho can't refuse. That money'll also ensure that Dangote remains Osho's best friend for a loooong while. So it's more businesses and concessions for Dangote.

I believe this has nothing to do with any ACN/PDP story. It's pure business relationship.

For a man who sacked non-indigenes employed in the state's civil service under the guise of securing funds to pay the new minimum wage, that tells something about the man's character and intelligence. Construction projects done in the state are monopolized by his son's company. Choice landed properties are being gobbled up daily by the man using state funds and he is here casting blames on HIS own appointees. Yet calls himself a leader. The man has the highest number of billboards I've seen of state governors (advertising his nickname).

If I remember correctly, while he was chief of staff to the then Gov Orji U Kalu, he was actually in EFCC custody when "elections" were held that saw him emerging as governor. I don't know how he got out (probably on bail) but he ran to Umuahia, was sworn-in and could not be prosecuted because of the immunity clause.

If he is not careful, I see him going the way of Ibori, because he seems to lack the restraint that should be displayed by someone who is a crass under-performer and who is definitely an enemy of everyone except maybe his Umunna and family. Even some Ibeku people are already disappointed in him.

The guy is just disappointment personified. sad
Car TalkRe: 25 Rules For Driving In Lagos by Tinyemeka(m): 6:57pm On Aug 02, 2012
callydon: 25 Rules of driving in Lagos

9. Never, ever, stop for a pedestrian unless he flings himself under the wheels of your car.

11. Learn to swerve abruptly. In Lagos, potholes (and sometimes car-holes) are put in key locations to test drivers’ reflexes and shock absorbers,( I saw one man fishing in one of the potholes last week).

19. Similarly, never attempt to give hand signals. Lagos drivers, unused to such courtesies, will think you are making obscene gestures to them. This could be very bad for you in Lagos.

21. At any given time, do not stand on the zebra crossing expecting traffic to yield to you, or else you will have to explain to the on coming traffic whether you look like a zebra.

22. Speed limits are arbitrary figures posted only to make you feel guilty.

25. Above all, keep moving. Even with a flat tyre!!!

HORNING IN LAGOS
Horn’ when someone executes a dangerous maneouvre.

‘Horn’ when you’re about to move off.

‘Horn’ when you’re about to overtake.

‘Horn’ when someone is about to overtake you.

‘Horn’ when turning into a road.

‘Horn’ when emerging from a road.

‘Horn’ back when someone horns at you. It’s considered good etiquette.

‘Horn’ when you hear a chorus of horns. Don’t worry if you don’t know what all the ‘horning’ is about.

‘Horn’ when you’re happy.

‘Horn’ to the beat when you’re playing music in your car.

Good luck, as you expeditiously navigate through Lagos and hustle and bustle!

PoliticsRe: Phcn On Partial Strike? Is Your Area In Darkness? by Tinyemeka(m): 11:52am On Jul 22, 2012
Jakumo: The battle-ready troops currently guarding nationwide premises of the defunct Nigerian power company, PCHN, should also be tasked with arresting as many former employees of that dead agency, which never provided ANY electrical power to Nigeria for at least the past quarter century, and making those captives perform vigorous parade-ground physical exercises in exchange for freedom and a state pardon.

The usual fifteen minutes of squatting frog-jumps while grasping one's ears should be augmented with dozens of push-ups, sit-ups, leg-raises and 50-yard wind-sprints, all as the warm-up sequence, after which all of the less determined former PHCN saboteurs can be weeded out with one-arm pushups, floor-shaking bench presses and full-contact karate bouts with military special forces operatives drafted over specially for the disciplinary measures.
LOL. You this funny guy. I can always tell your posts from the first three lines, even without seeing who posted. Comic relief in the face of all these disappointments. It's all good sha. Keep it up. smiley

Pally you've been ranting non-stop at every single post for the past 48 hrs or so. Don't you have other things to do (like interacting with your family and neighbours) than waiting on every single update before you come and display your envy here? Please get a life O. Your life and future is IMO more valuable than this demonstrations you've been putting up.

The way I see it, you reek of envy and bitter jealousy. Else you wouldn't have been so fixated on everything Nigerian. David would always being far more interested in Goliath than the other way round.

FYI "Boko" (from the people who coined that term), means book, Westernization. Bakassi is an oil-rich peninsula that was wrongfully ceded to Cameroon, which is to be contested. Funny that you decided to choose those words as derogatory on Nigerians.

Pally I don't want to join issues with you. I don't have the time. If Nigeria pisses you off that much, go to ghanaweb or some other site and vent your hate there.

If not for all these anonymous nonsense, I don't see how someone would just be... Well, no wahala.

Let's know who you are on FB if you are soo fanatical about your Ghana. I challenge you to do that.

steph7: The area I stay in PH, power supply is relatively steady, once in a while we have 23 hours light steady , on a bad day 18-21 hours light and once in a blue moon 24 hours.its been like this for months and it only gets bad when there is a fault. Nigeria is gradually getting there, let ghana be dere forming
Seconded. There are days when light in my area stays on non-stop. Even beyond 48 hours. I'm not lying. We can eventually get to the point of having 24/7 power supply. Its simply a matter of time.

As for the Ghana issue, all I can say is that they are scared and can't handle competition fairly. Nigerians saw a ripe market and decided to move there. The Ghanaians feel threatened and decide to adopt unfair tactics of stifling foreign business expansion. But come to think of it, was that USD300,000 policy targeted solely at Nigerians, or all foreign-owned businesses?

GEJ would be forming "rule of Law" and Mr "do things right" now, instead of acting decisively to also protect the interests of Nigerians whom he swore to defend when taking his oath of office.

There are times when I really do miss OBJ. Like the time he shut the Seme-Cotonou border and Boni Yayi began to act like one prodigal son coming home to ask for daddy's forgiveness. A great nation is supposed to be what it is: Great. GEJ is just one big disappointment.

PoliticsRe: What Is “sub-saharan Africa” Exactly? by Tinyemeka(m): 8:12am On Jul 15, 2012
As for those wondering about the "Middle East" term: before North America became a world power and when Europe (specifically Britain) dominated things, the British viewed their location as the centre of the world. I'm speculating that is why they had the Greenwich meridian (being 0 deg longitude) to run through London. "Exotic" China and the rest of Asia were referred to as "Far East" on the basis of the distance and because it lied to the East of Britain. America was known as the Far West. The Arab nations lay in between Europe and the Far West. Hence the term "Middle East". This "Sub-Sahara" term was coined later when the rest of Africa began to feature in their scheme of things.
PoliticsRe: What Is “sub-saharan Africa” Exactly? by Tinyemeka(m): 8:00am On Jul 15, 2012
Obiagu1: For those that don't know, sub in Sub Sahara means "Below/Beneath Sahara" in the context the map of Africa is viewed.
North America and Canada share the same land-mass. They are not separated by any geographical feature but rather by border demarcation. Niagara falls just happens to be on the border. Canada lies above the US on the map. Why isn't the US called sub-Canadian America? Why do we have North America and South America? But not North Africa when there is even a South Africa which would have made the terms more apt?
PoliticsRe: What Is “sub-saharan Africa” Exactly? by Tinyemeka(m): 7:54am On Jul 15, 2012
Obiagu1: In Africa, sub-Suhara is "becoming" a problem too. How does one differentiate the rest of Africa, from North Africans who are not blacks?
For goodness sakes you've just done that yourself. Are they from North Africa? Then call them North Africans. Except your intention is to segregate Africans on the basis of skin colour. What then makes you different from a racist? But if that is your idea, you don't even qualify as a racist because you belong to the same group that is being segregated. Try and find out the rationale for terms and epithets before using them.
