-- End of file - 9427 bytes @ poster, I've looked at the scan result over and over again and the only thing I found alraming, which I struck-out is launcher.exe on your system. It's likely a spyware or adware and I'd suggest getting a free antivirus (antivir or avast should do) and antispyware (a-squared free or super antispyware is fine) installed should be your next step. You probably want to run a deep scan in safe mode after you install the S/W. Also, I noticed you have so many browser toolbars, you probably want to uninstall one of the BHOs I have in bold--no reason to keep both. Do you use Vongo service? If not you might want to uninstall that bloatware and some other ones on there too. Still check your privacy settings like I stated in my previous post though. Good luck. Peace! |
Computers › Re: Help With My Task Manager: by TmeD0(m): 8:51pm On May 20, 2008 |
S.U.N.O: You didn't tell me if you are an Administrator or not. You shouldn't have this problem if you are. But if you are and still get this problem, then it's probably disabled either by a virus or your friend messed with the registry. You can try doing this,
- Click "Start" > "Run."
- Type in "gpedit.msc" (without the quotes) into the command line and click "OK." (This will open the Group Policy settings window)
- Navigate to "User Configuration" > "Administrative Templates" > "System" > "Ctrl + Alt + Delete Options" > "Remove Task Manager."
- Double-click the "Remove Task Manager" option from the "Group Policy menu."
- Click the Disabled radio button. (This option, even though it says "Disable" is actually enabling the Task Manager.)
- Click Ok
Hopefully, you should be all right now. Good luck.
--------- SUNO --------- Phew! Glad you didn't have him mess with the registry key for that. Thank God for group policy settings as an alternative. @ poster, you might want to make yourself administrator on that machine or else you'll be wasting your time trying to change settings in group policy. First thing you want to do is add yourself as an authorized user on the notebook ya paddy dash you. By that I mean going into control panel, user accounts and create a new user with administrative priviledge. On the other hand, if there's only one user account on the notebook aside from the built-in administrator account, you might want to give that user admin rights on your notebook. What SUNO suggested is the solution to your problem--he's right either a virus disabled it or ya friend disabled it. In this case, I think the former is the case. Why? The error message you got make me believe your friend's account, which I presume is the same you're using now does not have admin priviledge on that machine. On a side note, I'd suggest you get a free antivirus and antispyware and run a deep scan on your notebook prefarably in safe mode nna. Good luck! Peace! |

dominique: what were the traffic violations sef, i read the papers and not one of them specified exactly what the voilation was. this is one of d problems we av in this country, we don't know our rights. the policemen have no rights manhandling him like that when he's not armed n dangerous and shootin in broad daylight? hw stupid is that. what if someone had been hit? i hope he takes them to court and demand for a public apology. damn stupid idiots. Good question: NONE! Tell me since when has traffic laws been obeyed for naija. They claimed the guy drove through a one-way illegally---PLEASE!. Na since when them don start enforce that one? I've read the responses to this story and I must say I'm appalled and concerned at the responses thus far. While some were so contradictory that it makes you wonder if any thought was put into the writing, some just flat out balme the accused who in this case turns out to be a victim of the typical police brutality. Ok, let's just say he did commit a traffic offense, which we know in this case there was none, was it right for the olopa them to assault him? dnative: Check if the drive letter assigned to the CD drive is still visible. if not you'll need to check from device manager if the hardware entry for the cd drive is still there. If there is a device manager entry, I'll say you possibly have a dirty cd-rom lens - try an optical lens cleaner. If that doesn't work, you might have a faulty cdrom drive hardware altogether. Also check if you're not able to read all CDs at all or just some specific CDs. @ poster, dnative's suggestions should answer your question. I'd bet my last buck that your CD drive is defective, which in this case you will need to have it replaced. On the other hand, You'll want to try the last suggestion dnative offered because sometimes certain CDs will just not work on some drives. Try another brand of CD just to eliminate that option. Peace! |
Computers › Re: Problem With My Internet Browser - I.e V7. by TmeD0(m): 5:29pm On May 20, 2008 |
@ poster, it sounds like your browser has been hijacked. Download and install HijackThis a small utility that scans your PC's registry and HD and returns the result that you can save in text format. Oh, do not check the option to fix whatever you find unless you know what you're doing. Scan your PC, save the scan result and post it on here. On the other hand, it's possible that your privacy settings on your browser is set way too high and as a result it's blocking every single cookie. I doubt that's the case since you're getting a bogus site when you're trying to visit a known site. At any rate still check your privacy settings in IE. Incase you're not sure how to do that, here's how: 1. Go to tools --> Internet Options 2. Click on the Privacy tab and check to make sure the slider is at least set to medium and not high, medium high and so on. 3. If it's set to medium, go ahead and download hijack this and return a scan but if it's not, proceed to step 4 4. Move the slider to medium and clear your cache (history, temp internet files) 5. Exit IE and relaunch it, then try visiting some known sites Good luck. Don't forget to post the scan result on herel for all to see. Peace! |

teenstexas: ALSO TRY TO DOWNLOAD FROM www.nch.com/wavepad. it is a very powerful tool download wavepad for free and also download the components all inside the website-www.nch.com OR you can download total video converter. I believe nch software is the same company that makes switch audio file converter (free). . . the URL is the one I posted on my previous comment. Wavepad will do the job but they now seem to shove their master's edition, which is a free trial down your throat. hayprof: iTunes automatically converts your music files to mp3 format when u add them to your liabrary. . Of course u av 2 enable that in settings. . @poster, he's right if you want to go that route but you will need to tweak the settings because Apple iTunes automatically converts the file to their proprietary M4A format using AC3 codec. You will need to change the codec settings to mp3. I don't use iTunes that much. Good luck! Peace! |

Christianity Etc › Re: What Colour Is God? by TmeD0(m): 1:29am On May 17, 2008 |
sugabelly: My question was intended to provoke thought and discussion. You, unfortunately, are not thinking it through. I never said that the colour of God is in anyway influenced by race, but there is an overwhelming perception that God is a great WHITE man with a long snowy beard, rather like Father Christmas. One would expect however that since God is a spirit, that each race would think of God in the image of their own race. I would like to think that God looked like me, or that I looked like God, whichever way you like it. But at the same time, since noone has ever seen God, there is speculation about what God actually looks like. Which is the reason this question is in the CULTURE board and not in Religion.
God's divinity is not at all in question here. The main issue is: What if God is purple? sugabelly {I kind of like the screen name though }, I no go mind see the kin suga wey dey for that belle o but I digress. Look, you've answered your own qweshun in a way. Like you said, we all know (well, can't include atheists as them no believe hin exist sef) that God is a spirit and since he's a spirit, the spirit has to be either colorless or maybe of variety of color pa pa sef. Shebi e dey for bibeli mimo say God made man out of his own image. Ehn ehn! Since God made man out of his own image, who in turn made a woman from man; therefore, God has no definite color. Whether you black, white, red, purple and so on, as long as you're of the human species, you be God color. If purple pesin dey, then purple be part of God color too. Simple, short, and concise ni yen now. Peace! Lest I forget, back to that suga wey dey ya belle--- |

Walahi, life too sweet to even contemplate suicide o jare. Suicide ke? To me suicide is just an easy way out not to face the consequence of one's action or inaction. By the latter, I mean the thought of being regarded as a failure. What most of the suicide victims that fall in this category fail to realize is that success does not always equal material possessions. The ones in this category try to live beyond their means and pay attention to what other people are saying about them. As for me o, I don dey long enough for this earth to give rat yansh about what anyone say about me---as long as you no dey feed, clothe, pay my bills, whatever you say about me don't mean jack to me. You see "honorable" sule, when you insert a quote, the quotes are enclosed in what is called a tag. The beginning of the tag will look something like this: [ ] while the end will look like this [/]. Words inside the tag will be captured and in order to start a new sentence, you have to type outside of the end tag that looks like this [/] (you might not be tracking that's why I repeated it). Here, try that again and see for yourself. You know I do agree with you that ignorance is dangerous especially when you try to use complex words that have no bearing in the point you're trying to make. And you are an attorney? I feel sorry for your clients. If only they knew. I rest my case. Peace! |

@ poster, try Switch Audio File Converter. Last time I checked, it was free and does the job very well too. Also, if you look at the ads displayed at the top of the page on this site, you'd see Switch Audio converter being displayed. It's right up your nose. Peace! |

jorge1980: Great, try one of these
1. Put the laptop in a deep freezer for about 3 hours before evry use 2. Use your toes instead 3. Go and buy a mouse its 300 naira

ROFLMAO Nna gongo don really so on a high level o! I'd suggest you try option 3 as suggested by jorge1980 o. Although like someone mentioned, the vent might be clogged, which can cause the overheating. Having said that, let me ask you a question: Do you use your notebook on the bed? Please tell me you don't because if you do that's probably the cause of the overheating. You always want to place your notebook on a flat surface. Peace! |

abushaheed: I have a HP laptop which i formatted and reinstalled WIN XP.
After then whenever i connect to the internet via LAN cable or wireless,
a popup window immediately comes up telling me the system will short down in 15 minutes. (it will surely shut down)
This occurs atimes and atimes it does'nt. From my knowlegde i feel its a trojan horse.
please tell what it is and a possible solution. Before you assume it's a trojan, may I ask why you formatted in the first place. Was your machine infected in the first place? After you reinstalled the OS, did you Install an A/V? If you did, have you updated the virus definitions? Does the dialog dox appear only when you're online or sometimes while you're just running an application. At any rate, download and install HijackThis (don't worry, the file is < 1MB), then scan your system and post the result here. Just save the scan result in .txt format (it'll give you that option). There could be something else that's H/W related wrong with your PC (I may be wrong). Don't forget to post the result here. Peace! |

nazzyon: Ore
Just go www.openoffice.org
It is light, fast and easy to use. Hin no lie o! If you no wan spend money and still want the same features (maybe more sef) that MS. Office offers, OpenOffice na ya best bet o. It's open source, light-weight, and best of all free. On the other hand, if you're bent on using MS. Office, well rather than getting ripped off with installation disk full of corrupt or missing files, look for other means without having to pay for it and still get taken. Did I say other means? Peace! |

nazzyon: Avira is good for Home PC (No way!) but my problem is with the crazy Adverts.
Avast Home Edition is good and usually updates anytime provided that you are connected to the internet.
www.avast.com
Spyware Terminator, a very good one. www.spywareterminator.com
You may or may not enable its shield. ____________________________________________________________________________
Malware Byte is also good.

OTHER OPTIONS
Multi Virus Cleaner 2008 http://www.viruskeeper.com/us/mvc.htm
It is not a full fledged Anti Virus but it does a great work.
AVG 8.0 Free
http://free.grisoft.com/ww.download?prd=afe
It is another good Anti Virus. Advert? Are we talking about the same Antivir? I think you're mistaken my friend because there are no adverts like you mentioned. The only thing that pops up every now and then when the auto-update (notice I said auto-update) is running is their pop-up offering you an upgrade to the professional edition---mind you most free software that have upgrade versions do that. Avast is good like I stated earlier but doesn't do as much as Antivir does. Now AVG (at least the free version), I wouldn't even recommend to my worst enemy. Maybe they've gotten better but from my past experience, it's a no-go. Ok, if you want to talk about annoying popups, Spywareterminator tops the list. Though it's the only free anti-spyware out there that gives you a real time protection but gosh why in the world is it always trying to do the work of a firewall. I mean, I already have one installed. Peace! |

prosper234: yea thanks for your contribution but i have downloaded the driver from toshiba site fitting the very computer model and it never worked i donk know what to do because the laptop never cAME with CD but it was installed with Visa Basic You said you've downloaded the driver from Toshiba and it's still not working. Did you download the driver for basic or Premium (if it's available)? If you downloaded the correct driver, it should work. Is this the driver you downloaded? If so, it should work cause it looks like this is compatible with every Vista version. Peace! |

UNLEASHED: I use AVG and soon I wil not be able to update it because it is a free Edition. Abeg fashi AVG and use Avira Antivir. It's free and auto updates almost nearly everyday. One of the best (if not the best) free A/V software out there. Avast is good too but this bad boy goes beyond viruses, I'm talking trojans, worms, backdoors and even has a built-in anti-rootkit that searches for any rootkit. peace! |
