Martins00:ROFLMAO Martins, u wicked o! You wan spoil business for the "cappable" engineer (as e be like say na everyone be computer engineer for naija these days). Didn't you see that he left his not-eight-not for the poster? Look, for all you know, he may be "cappable" of "ficksing" our dear poster's problem o. How dare you doubt the "cappability" of the engineer in the house? Martins, mind yourself o, respect yourself o! Peace! |

@poster, did it come with the driver's cd? If so, uninstall it and reinstall it using the CD. Also, if you don't have the CD, try Toshiba's site to see if you can get the driver for the cam. You said you upgraded to Vista Premium; I'm assuming you didn't do a clean install but rather using an upgrade cd right? Ok, here's my question, how long ago did you perform the upgrade? If not too long, chances are you can revert back to Vista basic so you can use your cam while you find compatible driver for the premium. Try and restore your OS back to basic cause more than likely a restore point should have been created by Vista prior to the upgrade. Give it a shot and good luck. Peace! |
bolajibaok:Lol! Una no go kill pesin for dis nairaland o. nna na so so n***a dis n***a dat pesin just dey hear for ya first "rap." pesin no fit even hear wetin u dey talk sef--maybe if u speak for ya original ijinle yoruba accent pesin go fit hear u instead of trying to sound american. na wa o! i can just see ya type now, land for yanky and str8 out of the plane na fo ne u go dey try blow why some of my naija folks think say saying n***a dis n***a dat na cool tin still beats me. oga bolaji, e no cool o--makes u sound uneducated and ignorant. na ghetto, welfare-receiving, lazy, government-dependent, nfa (no future ambition), uneducated, ignorant folks dey use those words. i know u go talk say what about all those rappers wey dey use am. well, guess what, they're only exploiting the ignorance of the folks buying their stuff and making them rich. abeg, make una stop using that yeye word o---e no cool at all at all. just baba ijebu's opinion. Peace! |
oyb:Haba oga oyb, na just clarification I been dey find o as e be say that statement you made about not having internet connection and downloading updates come confuus me now. As you don take style yab me finish now, God dey sha. Me? Oppress ke? No o, abeg no pack kukuye put for my pocket o--baba Ijebu no dey oppress no one o. Peace! |
dragnet:Basically what the PCMCIA to PCI adapter does is allow you to be able to use your PCMCIA card on your desktop. If you already own a notebook, you don't need the adapter---all you need is the PCMCIA card. Depending how you're conecting (wired or wireless), the PCMCIA card you will purchase will be different. There are some for wireless connection and some for wired connections including modem (why anyone want to bother buy that beats me). |
Suprman, like I stated earlier, did you make any changes to those two desktops prior to this happening? If so, what was it that you might have done differently to these two PCs? Have you tried connecting the PCs to a functional monitor to test them? Like Inze stated, check to make sure everything is connected properly, i.e. power supply. Also make sure your video card, RAM, LAN card and so on are properly seated. Remove them and reinsert them just to make sure. You can also check for dust in the PSU's fan, underneath your video card, RAM and so on. Just for the heck of it, remove unimportant H/W like CD-Rom, USB-connected peripherals (i.e. printer, flash drive, scanner), LAN card and try to boot with just the video card, RAM and processor. If removing these devices causes it to boot up, then you know one or some of them is the culprit. You'll have to use the process of elimination to find out which one it is. I'm having a feeling this might have to do with a recent change in H/W or S/W on both machines but I might be wrong. If you could provide a detailed information on the issue, it would be very helpful. Peace! |
edu_austin:Glad to hear your LAN connection is finally restored. Pertainng the other issue you raised, when you said you've tried to restore the data from the HD that crashed, what exactly have you done. For instance, did you try to set it as a slave drive in another PC that's fully functional? Let us know what you've done so far to retrieve the data from the crashed HD. Peace! |
oyb: I'm just curious to know how that's done without an internet connection sir. Did you mean using another PC with an internet connection and saving the definition file on a flash drive or floppy? If that's the case, you still need an internet connection to do that sir. Peace! |
Wow! Your story was not only deep but very encouraging. Indeed, you are a strong woman and I'm sure the one for you that will love you unconditionally is out there---don't give up. I bet your boys are very proud of you! At any rate, baba Ijebu n ki e o. Peace! |

I have problem with my laptop, It easily says "WELCOME" to any kind of virus, despite the fact that I have an antivirus. What is the soultion to this?Oga unleashed, if u go fit give us a clear problem to work with maybe we go fit help you find solution. I can bet the problem is not your notebook sir but more than likely negligence on your part---failure to keep your virus definitions up-to-date. Anyway sha, use HijackThis scan your PC and post the text (not an image file) result here so we can see if you even get virus sef. Note, DO NOT select any file after the scan for HijackThis to fix unless you know exactly what you're doing---just scan and post the text file result here. Peace! |
brauneyes:Ok! @poster, good luck. Peace! |
Uthainah:Relax Uthainah! What's the model of your of your Dell notebook i.e. Inspiron, Latitude or Vostro. And don't forget to include the model # not the service tag # for example Latitude D830. If you have access to a broadband connection, just get it at Dell's support download page the moderator posted. Keep in mind you will still have to provide your model number or service tag to download the drivers. Good Luck! |
Maleeq:So many but necessary questions Maleeq. Waiting on poster to respond to the questions. Oh, may I add this: Is windows Firewall turned on? If so, might want to get a third party firewall and turn Win Firewall off cause Windows Firewall and be a pain in the wrong places with wireless connections. Peace! |
I'll concur with oyb, they're robbing folks blind for naija pc market. USB flash drive are so cheap these days that the least size you'll find someone carrying around in the states is probably 1GB. @poster check out this Transcend 1GB at newegg for dirt cheap. Pata pata with shipping you no go spend pass 2k but the wahala be say I no know if them dey ship come naija. Even sef this 4GB one na 20 dolapo with free shipping. What's more, you can read the review of previous customers that have purchased the item to help you make an informed decision. Abeg, if you sabi person for obodo america, make you send them o jare and save you some kudi. Peace! |
If it's the same Dell's site I checked you checked, you would have found two different drivers for your integrated Ethernet card. One is Broadcom 570x Gigabit Integrated Controller and the other one is Broadcom 440x 10/100 Integrated Controller. I'd bet my last buck the first is the right driver but hey it won't hurt to try both. However, I'd suggest creating a restore point before doing the trial/error driver thing. In future, use this free pc audit tool to gather your H/W and S/W information for records purpose. You can always run the application again each time you make H/W changes---will save you a lot of time trying to figure out what drivers you need for your H/W. Good luck. Peace! |
brauneyes:@poster good luck with this one. Like I stated earlier, Walmart doesn't ship to Naija---check the URL I posted earlier and see for yourself. Peace! |
gongo aso:Glad your webcam's working. Get the drivers as backup asap before the tin go pafuka! Peace! |
How far do they go when you try to boot? Do they get as far as running a memory check (depending on your mobo manufacturer) or their screens are just blank (black screen). Also, did you make any changes i.e. install an application on those two desktops recently? If the power led and HD activity led are on and the screen is just blank, have you checked your monitors' power and vga connections? Trust me, little things like that mean a lot. Provide additional information and we can go from there. |
Sky-walker:The software is not working because the driver don't seem to be compatible with Vista. There's really nothing you can do now but either 1) Return the gamepad and find one that's compatible with Vista 2) If you're bent on using the particular game pad and Vista, then wait till the vendors of your gamepad come out with a Vista compatible driver. However, if it says on the gamepad box that it's Vista-compatible, then you probably want to install the software that came with it first before plugging the gamepad into the USB port (the manual should let you know what sequence to go by). On the other hand, you can just downgrade to XP and enjoy ya gamepad Peace! |
jitguide:You might want to take a look at walmart's shipping policy before you order from them. Dem no go ship come Naija o! Peace! |
oyb:@poster, oyb is absolutely right about that. That could be a reason you're experiencing the battery issue. What I'd suggest you do at this point before opting for a new battery, is to caliberate it. Notebook batteries should be caliberated at least after every 3 months of usage. Some notebooks have built-in utility that you can access via BIOS during boot process while most don't. The easiest way to caliberate it is to let it completely discharge while you're using the battery; however, do save your work as you go but I'd suggest not work on any important doc once it reaches 9%. You can surf the web till it's completely discharged and charge it to 100% and discharge it again the second time. Recharge it to 100% again and see how long it'll last after that. If it lasts less than at least 2 hours, then take oyb's advice and the other posters that suggested getting a new battery. davidt:You are probably right but I would explore other possibilities too. For instance, the slowless could be caused by a badly fragmented HD, which in this case a good defragmenting utility (free) like Defraggler or Auslogics Disk Defrag should take care of that. On the other hand, it won't hurt to update your A/V, A/S software and run a complete scan in safe mode. Oh, by the way, you're better off running a defrag in safe mode as well because in active mode some of the files that might be fragmented might be in use. Peace! |
gongo aso: gongo aso:Oga gongo aso, which is which? How you expect people to help you when you dey confuse not only us but yaself now? Did you really format the notebook's HD or is it a brand new notebook with a broken webcam CD that contains the drivers? If it's the latter, then you need to test the webcam first and not assume it's not working before you start looking for a driver. Then use a PC auditing tool to gather your H/W configurations and go look for the driver based on the name and model of your webcam. Peace! |
mmonwuba:Exactly my point! |
Seun:No I don't---maybe you can enlighten me there as you're able to "step in" and saved the day. More power to you! Peace! gongo aso:In future, before you format your HD, you might want to consider using a free utility (not a free download) like belarc advisor or something similar to gather your hardware/software information. Good luck. Peace! |
D_Archives:Ok, I'm confused. If you're paying for the services, why are you being restricted from using it? I can understand if the school is limiting access to only tuition-paying students, which should have been the case in the first place. Doesn't make sense to me. larry007:Netstumbler will only do what it's listed to do but will not necessarily provide you the wep key or whatever form of encryption is in use. I believe that's what the poster would like to be able to. I will want to know why I can't utilize the service I'm being compelled to pay for first before trying to bypass the network security, which could land me in deep dump if caught. Take am easy o. Peace! |
uspry1:I believe the poster was talking about alkaline batteries not an NiMH battery---don't think all these analogies and yelling were necessary. @poster, try the rechargeable NiMH (Nickel-Metal Hydride) batteries. You'd probably save some money buying the ones that are pre-packaged with the charger. Look for ones with high capacity between 2500mAh - 2700mAh. On the other hand, if the alkaline batteries are the affordable ones for you, try get brands like Duracell or Energizer. If you're going to be using your alkaline batteries, you might consider using the viewfinder instead of the LCD on the camera when taking a picture---saves you some charge on the battery. Good luck. Peace! |
bigmodo:There could be several reasons for that but the must obvious one is probably your connection speed (I'm guessing). Now, in order to help you additional information from you is a start. For instance, does the notebook hang on every site visited or a particular site? Does it hang even when you're not online i.e. just running an app say word processor or graphics? If it's only happening while you're online and on every site, you probably want to clear your cached files like someone suggested. Similarly, if it's hanging regardless of what you're doing, your hard drive might be badly fragmented. Like I stated earlier, providing additional information would help in finding a solution for the problem. Peace! |
dragnet:So far, yes. I installed SP3 on my notebook two days ago, which is an Intel Core2 Duo processor. It seem to be working fine so far. Also, I noticed Windows Explorer hasn't crashed since the install cause it's been crashing a lot lately prior to SP3. Like I stated, the problem seem to be peculiar to HP AMD-based PCs. Though some users mentioned it happening on some of their Intel PCs but those are probably isolated cases. I would create a restore point, backup important data before trying to install SP3 (that's what I did) cause you never know. Peace! |
Seun:No, it's not wrong suggesting using a restore CD if the poster is bent on having the webcam working and especially if the name and model of the webcam in question is unknown. Given the limited information provided by the poster, it's an alternative solution if not the only one at this point. If you noticed, I stated that knowing the actual name and model of the webcam will help obtaining the driver for it. In additon, I did suggest trying to find the driver online via device manager provided Windows recognizes the hardware. Oh, by the way, astra32 is not free as you stated (free to download though) but Belarc Advisor is free and not only gives a detailed information about your hardware configuration but your software as well. Just thought I'd let you know. Peace! |
gongo aso:Question: Did your notebook come with a Restore CD? If the answer is yes, your chances of getting your webcam to work is restoring your notebook back to the factory settings. On the other hand, if the answer is no, then I'm afraid you have a lot of digging to do. If you can get the exact name and model of the built-in webcam, that would be a good start to help you. Also, does Windows recognize it in device manager with an exclamation? If so, try to search for an update online by right-clicking the device shown and select the update driver option. Good luck. Peace! |
