Well understood.

Thanks

Obviously, marriage certificate can even be less than a month if the couple just got married legally. Note that proof that you are in genuine relationship with your spouse does not mean a combination of those documents I listed above. Any persuasive evidence to show someone is your spouse will do. I have a number of colleagues who got married just before visa application and are currently in the UK with their spouses.
Travel / Re: Adventures Of A UK Bound Nurse by tolajay: 8:27am On Jun 21, 2020
Thank you.

Just to clarify, do you mean the marriage certificate needs to be more than two years OR it's the joint bank statement you referred to?

dubaiprince:

For Tier 2 visa dependants, I am not sure they need proof of English or UK NARIC. From information available to me, the tier 2 main applicant should have proof of funds for each dependant and himself (This is not required if your sponsor is A rated), some form of evidence the dependant is truly your spouse (marriage cert, family picture, joint account statement of about 2 years), TB certificate for each dependant plus IHS and visa application fees.
Travel / Re: Adventures Of A UK Bound Nurse by tolajay: 8:04am On Jun 21, 2020
Congrats and best wishes on the funding for your dependents.

If I may ask, did your spouse needed to write IELTS or go through any verification before being given permission to migrate with you?

Cause I see that your only constraint here is finance to move them.

Thanks

Hello crushsugar. I have been following this thread and found it very informative. God bless you. Please what would be your advice for someone recently offered a job in the UK on a tier 2 visa with 4 dependants (a wife and 3 kids)? The company will only reimburse travelling and direct visa application expenses for me and none of my dependants and i dont have the financial muscle to sponsor all of them till i get there and start working.

Is it advisable to go to the UK alone first and bring them over within the next 6 months when i must have made enough? Is application for a tier 2 dependant visa over there seamless?

You anticipated response is highly appreciated.

Hi Nairalanders,

I just got my first car, 2009 Honda Accord Naija used. Engine, transmission, and AC all in perfect condition. Though the shock for the trunk and bonnet need attention as they are weak already. Also, the LCD screen needs to be replaced as the screen is just showing white.

I really love the car and I am so overjoyed. Though still using it to learn driving which I have been doing great at.

I need suggestions on how best to look after my baby. She is just so sweet.

Well, that sounds like an option now.

Back then, knowledge was not this decentralised. You'd even need to go to a cybercafe to upload documents or check mails.

Plus these things were fuelled by ignorance, desperation, naivity and secrecy.

This generation has no excuse for failure...Too many resources are available at the click of a button, only the lazy will regret.

Why do you need a Travel Agent when you have the internet and YouTube ?

What is the purpose of Google on a smartphone ?

LOL!

That's applicable to those who believe and patronise juju men.

But I believe in karma, posterity and natural principles of life.

Quite sure he'll live to rip everything he's done.

Travel / Re: What's Your Experience With A Travel Agent? by tolajay: 10:53pm On Jun 09, 2020
Your points are valid.

If I knew the things I know now, I'm certain we won't have fallen victim of the agent's antics.

As I look back, I see that we were naive, desperate and ignorant.

You know we refused to tell one of our uncles who'd travelled severally. We were hoping we'd surprise when the processing is completed.

Anyway, we surprised him but in a negative way. grin

deleson:
Sorry about your misfortune.

As always, fake agents cash out on people with desperation, ignorance and nativity.

Secrecy is another tool they use. They tell their victims not to tell anyone so it won't cast. But all na format.

People need to be more enlightened and thoughtful about things, migration inclusive.

Consult people wey sabi.

In fact, a lot of travelling processes can now be done online by anybody without the assistance of any agent.

Let me start from the end.

Right now, my father has a heart problem due to the shock of failed migration abroad after spending millions of Naira through a travel agent.

2005: The urge to travel abroad was so intense, given the pecks that come with living and working abroad.

We got to know of a travel agent through a family friend, who assured us that the agent has good network, influence and track record to help actualise the dream of travelling abroad.

So, we started application process to the United Kingdom.

Money were expended, time committed and hope expressed.

After spending above the estimated fee, the agent kept asking for more. My parents sold up five plots of land to raise funds to give to the agent.

Long story short, the whole process ended in futility. More lost, time wasted, hope dismissed, trust shattered.

Till date, I and my family members still abhor anyone that tags him/herself a travel agent...My father will never recover from the effect of the dubious travel agent.

Please share your story/experience with travel agents, either positive or negative.

Travel / Dear Traveller, Beware Of Online Human Traffickers by tolajay: 3:29pm On Mar 22, 2020
Beware of online human traffickers, TMP warns

Nigerians have been urged to be conscious of the activities of human traffickers who operate online via social media, mobile apps and other online platforms.

The Migrant Project (TMP) recently gave this advice in Lagos, noting that human traffickers whose interest is to exploit women, men and children through forced labour and commercial sex, now recruit unsuspecting persons online, most often via Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, Dating Sites, amongst others.

“We have noticed a disturbing rise in the modus operandi of human traffickers. They now recruit, groom and control their victims online, riding on the possibilities of digital anonymity which makes it easier and cheaper for them to reach and recruit their victims online,” said Tayo Elegbede, Media Lead of The Migrant Project in the statement.

He noted that predators pose online either as travel agents with enticing deals, recruitment agencies with job offers or as lovers via dating sites and social media platforms who would build trust before unleashing their inhumane intent.

There has been a rise in the number of Nigerians trafficked in and out of the country, many of whom recently returned from middle east countries like Lebanon and Oman.

According to the Traffickers conduct their nefarious activities in structured sequences by establishing Facebook and Instagram accounts, WhatsApp groups, fake business names and addresses to lure unsuspecting victims, Elegbede said.

“Traffickers are capitalising on the growing desperation of many Nigerians to migrate abroad at all costs. They identify vulnerable persons with low self-esteem, ignorance and displayed an interest in migrating, then reach out to them with deceptive offers. This is always the case of supply meeting demand, however, it often turns out to be sour too fast,”

The group cautioned Nigerians to be careful and report online content, personality or organisation with suspecting offers, promises and operations lacking clarity and credibility, to avoid being a victim of human trafficking. TMP also charged social media sites to improve their community control policies to downplay contents and sanction organisations involved in human trafficking.

About TMP

The Migrant Project is a communications campaign providing free and credible information on the realities and risks of irregular migration. It also provides information on alternatives to irregular migration in Nigeria.

Travel / NIGERIA: Migration Trends To Watch In 2020 by tolajay: 8:57am On Feb 12, 2020
Migration is one of the most complex aspects of the 21st-century development agenda. With dominant nexus with politics, economics, health and social wellbeing, migration has been at the forefront of global development narratives and will, perhaps, continue to be.

Building on migration patterns and practices in 2019, it is apt to posit that 2020 will unveil new migration patterns especially for developing countries like Nigeria.

Here are seven migration trends to look out for in 2020.

Gross desperation to leave Nigeria: This year, more Nigerians will attempt to leave the country through every means possible. Such moves will be highly propelled by desperation, despair and uncertainty about the state of livelihood in the country coupled with the idea that anywhere else is better off than Nigeria.

Restrictions for Nigerians: In tandem with changing migration policies of several developed countries, restrictions or travel ban might be placed on various categories of people and nationalities. While some of these policies may not specifically target Nigeria, it is almost certain that Nigeria will have the features of the restricted countries. And yes, several visa applications from Nigeria will be denied based on little or no mistakes. This will, however, strain bilateral relationships between Nigeria and several countries.

Interest in skilled labour: As a means of advancing their economic capacity, several countries, especially in Europe, will float skilled migration programmes to absorb proficient migrants from developing countries like Nigeria. This will be a case of equilibrium, where demand meets supply. On the flip side, this move will further deepen Nigeria’s brain drain index.

Increase in travel cost: International travels are generally cost-intensive, but this year, travel cost will skyrocket. Why? This is because of the prevailing economic condition of Nigeria; increase in VAT, double-digit inflation, high exchange rate of naira to foreign currencies. Some embassies will review and increase their visa and travel processing fees. The economic wellbeing of Nigeria will reflect on the travel industry and migration as a whole. This means, more people will be forced to abandon their migration plans due to limited funds.

Rise in travel agents, smugglers and traffickers: With an increase in emigration interest and desperation, and gross misinformation and over-reliance on third-party services, many Nigerians will be defrauded through travel agents. Fake agents and smugglers will be on the increase riding on people’s ignorance, gross misinformation and over-reliance on unverified thirty-party services. Human traffickers will also be on the increase with mouthwatering promises to unsuspecting victims who are filled with utmost desperation to leave the country. Expectedly, the cost and results outweigh the initial goals and intent of the victim.

Rise in irregular migration: Desperation fuels brash decision, ignorance hosts uninformed decisions. This year, many Nigerians who are desperate to leave at all cost will embark on irregular migration to several destinations including Europe and America. A large number of such journeys will end in futility and regrets, costing money, time, resources and lives.

More people, more money for Nigeria: With the visa-on-arrival programme announced by the Nigerian government to African countries, it is expected that more business-oriented personnel will fly into the country this year. Expectedly, this will positively affect the revenue base of the Nigerian Immigration Service and invariably the Nigerian government. The challenge, however, is the capacity to effectively manage all the components of the visa-on-arrival programme.

This year, Nigeria will predominantly feature on the global migration map due to its vast population, economic status and unique footing on the African continent. The question is; will it be featured on a positive or negative note?
