What's your stance here? Is the manager White?

Not all mention of people's colour are racially-slurred.

I'd say the use of 'Black' in the headline is redundant, taking out readers' curiousity.

However, inclusive communication has evolved on the guideline to reference people's colour without being racially-entangled or offended. Loads of helpful resources online: https://edition.cnn.com/2020/06/05/health/racial-microaggressions-examples-responses-wellness/index.html.

https://andscape.com/you-got-99-words/does-it-make-a-difference-if-youre-called-black-african-american-melanated-or-any-other-term/

If I say I love Blacks and their culture. Will someone be offended?

What of just "Bank Manager"?

Undoubtedly, they've got some good stuff going on for them. But I'll be conscious not to overinflate their population and influence.

Last I checked, Asians (Indians inclusive) make up 9.3% of UK's population. Africans are about 4%.

Just last quarter, LSE released a report on wide ethnic disparity in wealth accumulation across the UK. Asians and Africans were abysmally positioned against white-Brits. Although Indians had some slight exception in the Asian bloc, yet they're not closer to the white-Brit.

So, it is geometrically impossible for them to outrun the 'real owners of UK' in 20 years. Maybe 200 years! 😊

A major hurdle you'll need to cross before earning and worrying about in-country issues is location verification on Upwork.

After a few logins within the UK, Upwork will change your location to UK instead of Nigeria. I'm not entirely sure you can get a reliable Nigerian VPN to consistently mask your IP and location.

If Upwork successfully migrates your location to UK, then, you will be visibly breaching the terms of your visa.

Thewritingnerd:
Good afternoon everyone, quick question: I already had an Upwork account from Nigeria (NB: this account wasn’t active, I just created it and abandoned it) ,

if I were to change the account location and start using it to get freelance work now in the UK, would the hours count towards my 20-limit as a student? Would it be considered self-employment which is a breach of the student visa conditions?

Add: Also, is remote work that I’d been doing for a UK client from back home and I’ve continued to do now that I’m in the uk part of my 20 hours too 🤔

Your comment is unnecessary.

She's decided to ascribe the visa issuance to God, so let her be and express her faith. You can decide what to do with your own processes and outcomes. Can we just learn to be tolerant of others' views and beliefs?

I have a handful of American and British colleagues who barely require visa to travel around world and don't see anything spiritual in travelling but they still respect the disposition of those who feel otherwise.

Your perspective isn't everyone's reality. Just learn to honour others'.

Nanorest:

Calm down and stop involving God in a UK visa. This is not even supposed to be celebrated because it's no big deal

He must have a very dark mind to think of such and come on a public domain to spill it as well.

Plus, he's got little or no emotional intelligence to have typed that rubbish. Some people sha!

Lazy Journalists?

You could establish your point without taking a jab at Journalists in Nigeria.

I hope you're not categorising bloggers as journalists?

Just to say some of these "lazy Nigerian journalists" are trailblazers across the world in major newsrooms and media outlets.

koonbey:

It's fake that's why you're only seeing it on IG gossip pages and rubbish blogs (mostly from Nigeria where we have lazy 'journalists'). 😳

Also, that's not how the law works. I know - I'm not guessing.

There are many factors that make such a scheme impractical from a corporate law and tax law standpoint. If it was that easy why would everyone not just gift out their properties before a divorce?

Absolutely! The dominant contest is with AI and tech in general.

Had a discussion with the heads IT operations and governance for a leading insurance group in the UK and I marvel at the disruptive impact AI is going to have on people's work. Companies are massively investing in automation and cutting out human interventions.

One thing I know is humans will evolve and survive.

LionInZion:

Yes, many careers will be rendered redundant in some years to come, and that has always been the norm since time immemorial, though it's happening at a much higher paced rate now than before.

The concern really is that people aren't getting laid off for incompetence or failure to upgrade their skills, sometimes it's because their roles have now been automated and require less human element to function.

For instance, my team shortlisted some guys for data Entry job. Just as we were about to invite them for interviews, we came across a software that can perform the role we wanted to hire them for even better. That was the end of the application. Similar thing is happening now as we've started testing GPT4 for certain tasks we had planned to hire for.

Sometimes when I remember that we would have had additional 4 or 5 team members in the past few Months, but technology made them not needed anymore, not because they lacked the necessary skills, it becomes clearer that even the smartest people could be hit by this wave.

Sad but it's a necessary evil; change in sync with global realities.

The next 50 years will witness massive career disruptions and transformations.

Aside the massive layoffs in Tech and Media, more are happening and will still happen, howbeit, they are/will be underreported. For instance, many banks and stores are closing up in UK, do you think they'll still retain all their in-branch workers?

On the bright side, new roles and careers are popping up. More opportunities are emerging. People will only need to readjust their lives and career goals.

Right now, careers that were lucratively distinct some 50-100 years ago are no longer the hot picks.

With the pandemic, global unrest, economic crisis and artificial intelligence, I can almost say that not so many careers can be future-proofed.

The way to get ahead is to incrementally add value to one's self, monitor/understand and strategize with insight from trends. Being flexible is key to achieving success in this age and time. But more importantly, is be have a super-consciousness: connection with God through Jesus.

LionInZion:
First it was Tech Layoffs, now it's media. How do we start future-proofing our careers as we don't know which industry will be hit next?

This is your go-to spot for non-profit jobs: charityjob.co.uk

You might want to highlight your skill set, experience and interest. The UK job market isn't big on certification rather experience and expertise.

Also, you might want to define your career path, helping those in such sector to give more direct pointers.

All the best.

Why the advise to avoid Birmingham and Manchester?

monfizzy:

Ok then. If looking for an affordable place avoid London by all means then as it’s quite pricey here. And I’ll suggest that where possible don’t settle for Birmingham and Manchester as well if you’re considering settling in England. Any city in Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland shouldn’t be much expensive either.

Family / Re: I Don't Know My Age, And It's Disturbing by tolajay: 7:54am On Oct 08, 2022
OP, you must have been born in 1992 or 1993.

Since you were in Primary 2 in 2000, it meant you'd have started primary education when you were age 6/7. That's the average of starting primary school then.

Track back those years from 2000 and it'll be around 1992/93.

Just pick a definitive date and resolve on using that as your date of birth. You can go and swear affidavit with your chosen date.

Your case spotlights the challenge of individual/communal record keeping and state data gathering and preservation.

Waynesteave:
Like you read up there, I don't actually know my age, but I can remember some event way back,
I lost my mum and dad so early and I grew up with grandma.

I remember my uncle coming to take me back to lag, in year 2000 precisely and I remember very well when that bomb blast at Ikeja cantoment happened for days in Lagos.

Now key important things to know is, when my uncle came to take me back to lag it was during third term holidays and I was on my way to primary 2 then but when I got to lag he enrroll me to private school and I was taken back to nursery 3 because baba (me) no Sabi even speak English as at then, and I still remember that very moment very well.

So like how many years of age do you guys think I might be then cuz all the memories are still fresh in my brain so for me to still remember everything then, I am thinking maybe i was 7 or 9 then. I'm so confuse.

Thanks for sharing.

But the explanation isn't clear.

The initial communication extending extra hours fro 20 (first image below), wasn't labelled "if you're working with the NHS".

The one you shared (second image below) says the concessions contained in the "if you're working with the NHS SECTION.

If the initial communication is what's referenced in the new post then, their communication is unclear. The least, they can do is update the inform on the initial post or hyperlink the section in the new update. That won't give room for all these back and forth.

Also, you have this in that shared link "If you do any different or extra work due to coronavirus
You can carry out supplementary work in any role at any skill level during the coronavirus outbreak. There is no restriction on the number of hours you can work."
, does it mean the update is still promoting unlimited work hours, and in another breath saying it'll end by 4 October?

It's really unclear.

Morning all,

For those in healthcare, I've heard talks about the reinstatement of the 20hrs work limit by 04 October 2022.

But I've checked Gov.uk and there's nothing of sort there. All I could find is still the rule that extends working hours for NHS workers due to COVID (see picture attached).

Has anyone heard of the revocation of this rule, kindly point me to it on Gov.uk

Thanks

Sounds good. Thanks for the insight. Seems new license carriers/immigrants/singles would have to pay more for insurance as nobody trust them. Na wah oooooo.

Amarathripple0:

£99.04 for a Monthly comprehensive cover. I used my provisional license though to get this rate, not my Nigerian license. I Also ensured that I got a good insurance rate by using the plate number to compare various rates before paying for the car.

Hiya,

Can I ask; What was the cost of insurance on your Nigerian license?

Amarathripple0:

Hmm that’s interesting, I may have to read up on this. it’s a good thing that I’ll be transitioning to a UK license soon anyway, and I’d just review the insurance to reflect the new license when I get one.
