Chimookigwe: Honestly, I so much love Igbos. Very innovative people. They can proffer solutions to the problems of others, only that they are incapable of finding solutions to their own problems.
Just this week, they had to bring firetrucks from across the Niger into Anambra state to quench fire in Onitsha. In that same Anambra, erosion has washed away some communities.
Those in Abia are organising kerosene drinking competitions among themselves.
Look at Imo and Enugu and see if they have leaders in those places.
Yet, Uche wants to build an ark in Lagos. I bet you didn't read the footnote... Tribalism has eaten deep into the brains of several of you. Very shameful. Osayimwen Osahon George is a journalist and a PhD student at the University of Ibadan. |

And use quality materials too, not a shoddy job as they normally do for contract sake. The person below spent 3 hours in traffic just within VI and we wonder why Nigeria has one of the lowest life expectancy rates in the world. Currently low 50s when people in other part of the world on average live to their 80s. |

PoliticalWitch: Because of years of bad economic choices, we are not rich.
And right now, we ain't earning enough from oil. So, either we pay more in tax....or we take another loan.
It is sad that corrupt polticans loot despite our poverty. There is no point paying more in tax or taking more loans which will go down the drain. Let the holes be plugged FIRST, the government should address corruption first and foremost else it makes a nonsenseof everything else. We can't keep pouring water into a basket. |
Politics › Re: FG Mulls New Tax On Coke, Bigi, Other Soft Drinks by tot(f): 10:43pm On Oct 17, 2019 |
PoliticalWitch: For everyone crying 'the government is oppresive'...please let us be realistic.
Nigeria isn't and never was a rich country. We rely on oil revenues...and right now, oil is at 59 dollars per barrel. We need oil to be at $140 per barrel before we can have a budget that is good enough for all our needs.
So, either taxes go up, or we just keep on taking loans. Remember we are losing $80 per barrel, and we have had to take loans to keep afloat as oil has not been favouiring us since 2014 April.
Besides, many countries have a tax on sugary drinks.
It is sad that we have and have governments that have messed this country up, but unitl oil goes above $100 or more per barrel, taxation has to be the way to raise funds. Sorry guys...it is that...or we beg IMF for another loan. What a comparison - "many countries have a sugar tax" Does Nigeria provide its citizens with the benefits and environment those countries provide? Obviously not. |

seunmsg: We always like to shift responsibilities in this country. Nothing ever happens naturally or as a result of some people’s negligence or incompetence. Anything that happens is always the handiwork of the other tribe or political opponent or haters.
Let’s even assume Buhari (the usual culprit) planned the tanker explosion, why can’t the Anambra State fire service under the control of Anambra State government quickly put out the fire and contain the situation?
Lagos State has witnessed tanker explosion/fallen fuel tanker more than any state in Nigeria and they always contain the situation in most cases. Instead of blaming others, ipob should call on Anambra State government to put the state fire service in good shape to prevent future occurrence. Whilst I agree with the crux of your comment, that highlighted part is false. Lagos is as bad as all other states and equally needs to put its fire service in shape. Stop making false assertions online. The whole country needs an overhaul, no sugar coating. Eod. |

boss1310: This is not the first time this is happening,in my area at upper new market road fire raged for four hours even with the calls we put through to anambra fire service it was the asaba fire service which we called within 30 minutes that arrived first before the Anambra fire service arriving when the fire has been quenched.that fire destroyed many houses, filling station and many businesses from DMGS round about down to my own street I always see whether I will call it campaign or goodwill threads uploaded weekly by one particular guy here depicting the achievements of Obiano and I wonder if this is the same of governor of my state which am living in we massively voted for this man when Obi appointed him but since the commencement of his second term the man has done mostly nothing as governor of anambra state owing to the fact he spent most of the state coffers campaigning for second term and doing the same for all APGA house assembly members. forget what people post here come to anambra and see for yourself especially this rainy season.do you know how many people died yesterday and businesses that were lost forever only because we have incompetent leaders am outraged not only because in this hardship that this evil befell my fellow humans but it affected me personally too,I dont have shop at Iweka road but a customer whose shop got burnt and he is owing me,I was there yesterday no single thing came out from his shop.all these idiots who come here praising politicians I still dont know what you gain by doing that His name is or something like that. If 8 is normal, then at what rate does overseas travel become too many? dipoolowoo: This directive was approved by President Muhammadu Buhari as part of additional cost saving measures aimed at instilling financial discipline and prudence, particularly, in the area of official travels.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, it was emphasised that the affected officials can only embark on more than two foreign trips in three months “except with the express approval of Mr President.”
In addition, all Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) have been asked to submit their Yearly Travel Plans for statutory meetings and engagements to the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation and/or the Office of the Head of Civil Service of the Federation for express clearance within the first quarter of the fiscal year, before implementation. Say the Volta River Authority which is an autonomous body that use that gas to generate just a minimum part of electricity to sell to the people of Ghana and don't say Ghana owe you.And that debt is even not true.We are a nation of over 65 billion dollars GDP and our internal debts alone is over 15 billion dollars so 160 million dollars is nothing to us.Even one millionaire in Ghana can pay off that money.Accept that we are better than your zoo and move on. [s] etrouble: I think for the first time in the history of this Buhari's administration, everyone who has even just a little sense is in support of Buhari. Though Biafran Flattinos have sworn by the graves of Emeka Ojukwu and Chinua Achebe that they will never see anything good in Buhari, these same Flattinos are in support of this policy of border closure. What this implies is that Biafran Flattinos may not really hate Buhari, may it is his policies that they hate. But then, criticism is not the same as revolting, cursing and abusing our dear Buhari. Let's criticise government responsibly and work together to move Nigeria forward.
But, wait oooo, did I just type that shit up there? [/s] |

olujastro: Benin Republic intentionally refused to police its own borders with Nigeria for decades because smuggling of illegal goods into Nigeria constitutes about 25% of its economic GDP. Benin Republic practices a leeching economic system where they import what they don't need(rice, cars, food, etc.), collect import duties on them and dump everything into Nigeria that has the market and purchasing power. They also smuggle our fuel that Nigerian govt has spent billions on to subsidise for Nigerians. That's why..."no country can survive economically with a country like Benin Republic as its neighbour"
Even though our corrupt customs are helping them, the Nigerian government expects Benin Republic to do its own part first, hence the border closure. Just imagine. Full time leeching, lol. |
