You cant be serious to leave work for 3weeks cos you want to watch your babe in katsina. you go kill yourself for nothing. can you enter camp like a corper for the 3weeks? It is not me that does not understand but the other sistas out there that the 9ja brothas are toasting here in the Western world.

Is it not the responsibility of the person that immigrating to a new country to understand their customs and ways of being and either disregard them and stick with "your own kind" or accept them and adjust your way of dealing with us.

That goes both ways. If a westerner wanted to come live in 9ja then it is their responsibility to learn the customs and follow them, not doing so can/will result in insult and possible injury.

That is for any person going to a different land.

Thats what they say you are most likely to cheat again in marriage. what you have been doing for the past 5years in a serious relationship will not leave u immediately after marriage if the opportunity presents itself again (and believe me it will) you are most likely to fall.
@poster why not leave both of them for the main time and sort yourself out? you already have this fear about your ex, if you must date him again you have to totally deal with it unless it will come and haunt you in future even when he is totally innocent

I agree so many times we tend to want to change this cos thats how its done abroad, suddenly ours dont seem right its always theirs. who sets the standard for what is right. Would they change theirs for us? different things mean something else in different cultures. thats why communication is important.

yeah this makes me laugh. i remember reading so many romance novels/ mills and boons back then where the guy reserves the ''i love you part'' up till the very end like its one big deal and when he says it like hell he means it, (as an aside personally this stuff influenced me so much for months into a very serious relationship i could not use the love word, until i finally let go one day)its almost like the crowning point, like he's said it all and now do with me as u please. Even in foreign movies its almost the same thing.
In Nigeria its not so. they just say it like that even on 2nd, 4th , meeting still trying to toast you. i guess that's our way undecided

sometimes we make things complicated for ourselves. In all fairness you say she is a good wife and loves you. you have a kid and all but youre not happy. i laugh things like this make me wonder how some people that just marry wife after a short while or after introduction and recommendation from a friend or family are coping. i'd never go for any of them but thats the case you put yourself in and found yourself. make the best out of it this ''i dont love her is a thing of the mind''
finally if after all you still cant cope let her go and let everyone learn their lesson and find peace. dont do this when she is 40/45 years old, if you cant cope let her go now.

what is accepted as normal in Nigeria would not be tolerated outside
My mum in particular was hard on us, call it discipline or whatever i dont know
as i look back now i believe she did the best she knew how to at that point in her life

So many guys will be shocked when they realize the lives their so called gf's and even wife's once lived. i am not answering the question if one would marry an ex prostitute i cant answer as i aint a guy. In the Nigerian context i think we should define who we call a prostitute. i know of lovely girls like myself in the university with regular boyfriends that would suddenly turn mad when the situation arose got dressed and went out at nights and weekends on a steady basis cos some guys wanted to take them out for a nice time and spoil them with stuff. What would we call those girls? Would this same men not marry them tomorrow. Is it not what they tell you, you would take? grin

i also had steady university prostitutes room mates with steady normal boyfriend but they took their prostitution work seriously as well. More serious than the first set of girls i just spoke of. how can you describe things like this

Some people have said maybe he is not the giving gift type of boyfriend but he treats her nice and takes her out and to that i say i understand completely and give him a big thumbs up for that. Some guys dont even know how to take a lady out and make her feel special. No one has the perfect package but we can all strive and keep learning. this is the part i have been hitting on since my first post on this thread.
