bilymuse:@ bolded: do you know if thats the exact reason the army is holding back now? If there were to be another turning point, do you know the extent to which people will be massacred? |
abeg enough with the cattle grazing analogies jo. cattle grazing no be job? Abi oyibo sef no dey graze cattle? If cattle grazing is paying people's bills, then let them be. What does cattle grazing have to do with this topic anyway? The people causing the problem in the Niger Delta, if not for oilfields in the area, isnt fishing their main occupation? There is dignity in labor. Please let us hear word. |
vislabraye:true that. I dont know if paying tithe is an armed robber deterrent however. Armed robbers dont have respect for people they rob anyway, and some of them even go for special prayers and fasting before they strike. Stolen property can be replaced. A life cannot. |
um, if they dump Usher anywhere in Nigeria, it will be hard to differentiate him from the general population. Likewise if he goes to other parts of west Africa, or Africa in general. He'll always resemble someone, because he looks quite African. The person who should really open up about where he's from, or where he's directly related to, is Taye Diggs. The man resemble Ogun/Osun area no be small. |
I hope it wont get to the point where drastic measures will be employed in the Niger Delta. because so many people will suffer and remain scarred by the memory long after the original issue. |
everytime someone offers a detailed explanation of how these things are done, people come up with different stories which still don't prove anything unusual. Lucabrasi, one of these days there'll be an educated native doctor who will break the vow of silence and people will hear from the horses mouth just exactly how all the "wonderful phenomenons" are done. The problem is, as you may have noticed, people tend to focus on the symptoms, rather than the cause. It seems to be a majorly African mentality. The native doctors themselves, would probably not be able to explain any better, since logical deduction isnt really a strong point where juju is concerned, and neither is it encouraged. All anyone is saying here, is that its ok to investigate the means and methods used to achieve what appears to be a mysterious occurence attibuted to juju. There's no need to appear so fearful and apprehensive about analysing something that appears to defy natural laws. If you check, there's little in juju that hasnt already been done elsewhere at some time or the other. Immunity to bullets, etc, was something first introduced by white explorers when they were trying to trick African rulers and bamboozle them into deference. |
Its sad, and they shouldnt just demolish without paying some sort of compensation. however, the truth is Lagos needs land for development, and slum areas can get very valuable in such situations. Money talks, real estate walks. and with the way the overseas [especially the US] economy is on a downturn, investors and developers will be looking elsewhere for new and profitable markets. |
I think I agree with the OP. In parts of Nigeria, when a couple is dating, the female is still called Iyawo even though they arent really married yet. Thus the "iyawo" will assume the rights and responsibilities of a wife before the actual marriage takes place. Back in those days oh- before widespread "hit and run" got so rampant like it is nowadays. Girls may turn motherly while going with their man because they want to pamper the guy, and feel thats how to show love. "Fun" is optional. Cooking, cleaning, etc are seen as the way to express love, maybe. Being a "good" wife. Its also what a Naija guy will expect of them, since they're both Naija and thats how the system works back home. However, guys who date non-Nigerians especially whites and AAs, don't see fun as optional. Instead, its a necessity. |
this is why I say these leaders should start fighting each other over the Niger Delta. Let them begin exposing the real picture of where and how that oil money is being spent, as well as who exactly is spending it. We need accountability in our leaders. If its this Niger Delta crisis that will unearth the skeletons in people's closets as regards where the lion's share of the oil money is going, then so be it. |
@ Dranoel: you've made some very good points here. I was also surprised to hear Tiv being grouped with hausa. When I was in the middle belt region, the Hausas and Tivs/other middle belters kept themselves distinct from each other. Its here on Nairaland that I'm hearing Tiv being called Hausa. @ Nigeria1: maybe Cameroon should take over all the oilfields. Its about time they also had the curse of oil. By the way, isnt Dokubo an Alhaji? When and where did he convert to Islam, or was he born a Muslim? because all this militant talk may be a cover for a jihadist agenda. No be naija? |
someone can be adopted at any age. Why is the woman's mother against it? I've heard of guys arranging adoption for themselves and paying through the nose, just to get papers. This one is a genuine case, so it shouldnt be a big deal. The biological parents arent even there with her abroad, and she can go to see them whenever she wants. besides, she may get some inheritance rights if they include her in their will. anyway sha, maybe there's more to the story. |
what kind of husband is this? |
its a cultural thing, maybe. Then again, dreads are seen as a symbol of the rastafarian lifestyle- including ganja and the like. I noticed a lot of dreadlocked guys date and marry non-blacks, for some reason. And many of such guys are actually quite easy going, religion aside. |
Its good the leaders (governors, arewa, Ohanaeze, etc) are also fighting among themselves now. Like it happens on nairaland, they all need to face the problem of prejudice and disunity and look it squarely in the face. There are issues they all need to iron out which have been abandoned for too long while the country was relentlessy being dragged under and leaders were ferrying Nigerian revenue abroad for their personal use. Lets bring all the simmering prejudices to the surface to see the light of day. |
huxley:you're misreading my post. I'm not debating if you're a Christian or not. I said, you dont understand Christianity as much as you think you do. |
seriously, I wonder why it's so difficult for some men to control themselves with this wife beating thing. Wife beating is cowardly and solves nothing. In fact, it only compounds the problem. yet there are so many men who refuse to take this issue seriously. Then, after they get locked up for domestic assault and violence, the crocodile tears begin to fall and they start blaming someone else for their behavior. |
In this context, there's no part of Nigeria that is not a parasite, including the Niger Delta. |
masawa:does your post make sense even to you, the poster? 'nuff said. |
you seem like another attention seeker. who are you and where do you come from? your profile picture alone will give any normal person the creeps. About as abnormal as your useless threads. |
gosh, I just watched Bruce Almighty all over again last week. I hope he recovers, though his injuries seem very serious. I heard the news barely an hour ago. |
I didnt. |
huxley:actually, you dont know much about Christianity either. You only think you do. |
anyone who doesnt know the basics of toilet hygiene should come and learn it on nairaland. Sh**tty topic, sh*tty mind/s. ![]() |
Joseph6:new zealand looks like hell to you? abeg i don't have time to respond to every psycho on Nairaland. better go back to your toilet thread. This is why you people never progress- this is a thread teaching you something good to do about your life, but all you can think of is whether to use water or toilet roll after sh**tting. And you think you're alright. ![]() |
ah ah, did I mention anyone's name? na wa for paranoia sha. Joseph06, na only you dey open thread? see how you're just advertising yourself everywhere. People wey no know you before don know you now. |
doyin13:wetin be radical bone? In any case, I'm sure plenty of people here on nairaland will disagree with you about that. na me radical pass. |
@ topic: wise words and wise thread. Good to know there are some mature minded guys on nairaland. Some other topics here make me wonder. |
am sure almondjoy was on Nairaland for more than one year. ![]() |
<< shakes head>> |
KarmaMod:oh, ok. |
@ topic: no, its not a shame in my book. every single day I see and relate with people who don't speak their mother tongue. Does Obama speak his own mother tongue? In addition, most Jamaicans speak creole, their own lingua franca. We all know the crime statistics for them. ![]() Not speaking your mother tongue is a problem only if your social interaction is limited to people from your area. They are the ones who will try to put you down for not being able to speak it. As I always say; if you speak it, fine. If you don't speak it, fine. Since I'm not a professional translator making money from people speaking some languages (or selling language material), I don't give myself a headache over who is or isnt speaking. |
@ OP and topic: this has always been the Catholic church's official stance on Islam. Nothing new there. The question is: does the average Muslim know or care when they're relating with non-clergy Catholics. And vice versa. At the end of the day, all it boils down to is the usual thing: the leadership having a different set of rules from the followers. Your thread title is misleading though. |
