lucabrasi:Its more about the belief that the rituals work, or else just plain evil on the part of the advocates for such rituals. Also lax prosecution of the witch doctors and their followers. If the govt makes an example of some of them, it will deter the others. Such a barbaric mentality. Albino or not, why should people have their legs and body parts hacked off in such a psychotic manner. And whats with this useless get rich quick mentality that makes people sacrifice their fellow human beings for rituals instead of working to feed themselves, even if its only farming or fishing. geez, everyone came into this world naked and everyone will leave this world naked, thats for sure. ![]() |

The police boss used the occasion to warn the police commissioners not to succumb to pressures by developers who are to build the houses on behalf of the police, to getting the C of Os issued in the name of such developer as the police would lose the right to such lands.they should succumb to pressure abeg. Development takes precedence over superstition. Some of those police barracks are nothing to write home about. They need better living quarters and better morale. If the police are happy, then other Nigerians will also be happy. Housing developments beat slums anyday. Those evil forests need to go. ![]() the authorities can plant new forests elsewhere. |
sleekymag:I don't know the newly weds and I've never heard of them either, so I'm indifferent either way (unless they spent $20 million on the wedding). But this your comment about the days of poor as church rat being over, is your church located in Nigeria, where people are complaining every day about the hardships of life, and folks are dying at sea and in the desert in their desperation to leave the country. Can you go to the politics and travel sections to preach this your gospel of prosperity, plz? Go and give the people some hope there. Abi you havent noticed all the curses being rained on this same Nigeria that you say poverty has been eradicated from? |
yes, the government needs to provide free treatment for mentally ill people. There's obviously no philanthropist bold enough to take on the task. |
KarmaMod:Its so immature to continue fighting after breaking up. Some people are taking "till death do us part" too literally. It doesnt mean someone has to be killed before the marriage can dissolve, for crying out loud. and why are all the wives being killed, Nigerian? Foreign wives can also divorce their naija husbands and file all kinds of charges. Yet I don't seem to see the husbands showing the same level of bitterness towards them, as they do when the wife is Naija. na wa oh. ![]() |
Well, the truth of the matter is, why is it so difficult for naija men to humble themselves when they're having problems in their marriages? Even if its the woman's fault As the "older" person and the vaunted "head of the home", does it remove anything from a man to bend over backwards in order to maintain peace in the house? Being accommodating does not remove anyone's manhood, as far as I'm concerned, and neither does it reduce his status in anybody's eyes. There is no marriage without problems. People whose marriages survived the problems, how did they manage their own? Why must someone turn himself to a murderer simply because he got married? If you know the system works against you when anything goes wrong with your relationship, then why not work harder to keep your woman happy? And if that still doesnt work, then is there something wrong with amicable divorce? In the Nigerian setting, its very rare to see a couple who divorced amicably. Most times they continue to throw verbal knives and daggers at each other, as if they're still living and fighting in the same house. |
@ Ibime: I currently happen to be reading up on the origin of the Bantu, and the general consensus seems to be that they originated from a part of west Africa around the Nigerian-Cameroon region. Am still trying to find out how they got there before spreading out to east and central Africa. am also checking out your link, by the way. |
DeepZone:before I joined nairaland, I never knew Osun indigenes are supposed to be generally dark. I know quite a few of them who are, but to me, its like saying all hausas are dark, when some of them are not. Or like saying all Fulanis are light, when in reality they have both light and dark people, and its hard to tell if the lighter skinned ones outnumber the darker people. However, since the general consensus here seems to be that Osun people are darker than normal, I'll go with that. They have some dark and sexy males, though. DeepZone:By environment, I mean the soil. Some parts of Igboland have reddish earth, which seems peculiar to the area. As a kid, I used to wonder how their yams grew so big in red soil, because the soil in the west (Yorubaland) is dark loam, and I noticed the difference. Anyway, its just a theory of mine - nothing serious and neither is it set in stone. @ the white men getting black women pregnant theory: yes, some people along the coast could have some Portuguese, British or Spanish genes somewhere in their genealogy, but that doesnt quite explain the abundance of light skin. And there are parts of Yorubaland where people tend to have lighter skins as well. Some Nupes are also light. unless we want to attribute the lightness in these places to Arab/tuareg influence from the north. In any case, light skin coming from a non-black ancestor, tends to fade if the white blood isnt continued. ie its not as pronounced in third and fourth generation, for example, unless the biracial marries a white. Look at Obama's kids- They are neither light nor dark- just medium. So without a direct injection of white blood, the offspring tend not to have the same degree of lightness as their biracial parent. barring native soap of course. However, if the biracial population is intermarrying steadily, then there's more chance of the light skin popping up all over the place. This doesnt seem to be the case with the light skin we're talking about here. it seems to be occurring naturally among blacks without any obvious white blood, and also seems more common in women, though plenty of men are also light skinned. |
The news is more scary than anything else. Hitler also pulled vast crowds in Germany. maybe Obama should try running for office in Germany, and see if he still gets the same reaction. |
I think generational curses are said to be curses resulting from the evil deeds of one or more ancestors. A lot of people blame their lack of progress, inability to have meaningful relationships, etc, on generational curses. Personally, I doubt a lot of this stuff, because if it were true, then the descendants of slave traders of old should be the most wretched people in the world today, but most times that isnt the case. And if it were true, Germany and Europe in general should be the poorest countries due to their past roles in various pogroms and the holocaust. I've also seen folks saying Africa is the way it is today because of her role in the slave trade. Once again, that's questionable, since not all Africans are dirt poor. Other countries which are struggling with poverty, did not necessarily engage in slave trading. So how do you explain their situation? In general, individuals shouldnt be held culpable for the deeds of their fathers. People have genes from both father and mother, so no one is 100% from his father alone. There's always input from a mother. If someone did not directly participate in his ancestor's misdeeds, then he shouldnt be held accountable for them. Most times the burden of even knowing thats where the person sprung from, is enough punishment on its own, for those who care. Of course there are exceptions. If the misdeeds are on a societal level (eg black/white, caste system in India and so on), then action may be needed to redress the wrongs of the past. huxley:None that I know of, right now. |
jaylinaa:I was referring to the topic. |
Dont people ever learn? I'm so tired of seeing faces splashed across the news every now and then, for spousal homicide. The man is 50. I wonder how a 28 year old woman destroyed his life? That's probably not his first marriage either. Some Nigerian women who are having permanent marital problems may need to consider moving out of state or out of the country in order to reduce friction and save their lives. ![]() I wonder why some Nigerian men find it so difficult to humble themselves when going through tough times in their marriages, and try to make peace with their wives. Very few women will continue to fight a man who shows love and humility. And in any case, is amicable divorce uncultural? Why must it be do or die, making a tragedy out of an already terrible situation? |
some say they are fair skinned because of an albino gene. I don't know about that, since there are plenty of (non-Igbo)families with fair skin and green/hazel eyes who have no albinos among them. Moreover, Tanzania seems to have an unusually high number of albinos in their population, but I don't know what percentage of the population is fair skinned. Even the Indian I know from there, is dark, talkless the blacks themselves. personally, I'd think its more related to the environment. @ Fresh B- yes oh. Igbo hater na my title. So take note. And take your medication. You went to Rome, and they told you the pyramid in St Peter's basilica is from your side? ![]() are you my good friend aba4life? ![]() |
the lady is fine sha. Three kids and still looking as good as that? |
what is his own genealogy. If you start from there, you'll have an idea how to respond to him. ie, instead of just seeing him as "white", do some homework and start a discussion about his ancestors. Find out where they were originally from. |
this lady is either Indian or mixed. That looks like her natural hair, too. The dark skinned lady may be different from this one. i would like to know if I'm wrong, for real. |
the real test here is whether people can allow themselves to step down gracefully even if they believe the tribunal made a mistake. I dont think the Cross Rivers(?) governor is making it a do or die affair. From what I've seen oh. |
AfroCynic:@ bolded: folks keep believing there's a messiah among us somewhere who's being held back. They never heard of Animal Farm. Its all politics, as far as I'm concerned. |
hmmm- anyone following this guy as a result of some misplaced tribal enthusiasm, will only have themselves to blame when he reveals the true nature of his mental ailment. yes, I'm saying this because I'm an Igbo hater. ![]() |
you go see a dermatologist and/or plastic surgeon. its not rocket science abeg. |
Sabisabi:@ bolded: are you minding them. They will supply the weapons, people at home will supply the casualties. as if them no get relative again for Nigeria. ![]() hisss. |
