This name Oduduwa republic- do people even remember that Oduduwa himself wasnt Yoruba? He was an immigrant from somewhere else who colonized the Yoruba, or whatever the people he met in western Nigeria were called. To this day there are towns in Yorubaland who will tell you their traditional culture/titles preceeded Oduduwa.

If Oduduwa himself did not name the people he conquered, Oduduwa, then why are they renaming themselves now?

All this excess sentimentality will get us nowhere.

@ Linda
My whole point of all this is it doesnt matter if you are a child of African, Asian, or whatever ethnicity. If you are living in America with parents that are immigrants you are never truely execpted in this so called "Amercianized". So sorry about this post being so long its just that I had a lot to get off my mind, I would greatly appreciate the feedback whether it be positive ot negative. Thanks
true sha.

Dont worry- in time you'll find friends who accept you as you are. In the meantime, just work on being happy with yourself and dont let the past influence your future in a negative way.

To be honest, Texazzpete is correct. Nigeria can run the militants into the ground in 3 months if required - but other people may take their place. Also Nigerias oil installations are not to the the required Health and Safety standard and a war could produce results of catastrophic proportions. I once went to a place called Oloibiri in Ahoada, Rivers State. Really, that place is a health hazard. An Italian Engineer told me that if you put a match to that place, the blast will be heard all over the South-South and consume almost the whole of Ahoada. He said that even in PH, all the windows will break and the place will shake. Therefore, I don't think it is advisable for any war to be started in Niger Delta.
This is the way to go forward:
hmmmm.

This Oloibiri sounds familiar, I wonder why.

@Tpia:
I am saying Ibadan is Islamic city. I say lagos is the same. I say Abeokula is the same.

Name two yoruba cities that are not. Then i will name another set of 3 other muslims cities/town. We will go this route until we go through the yoruba towns and villages amongst them. There are enough Yoruba muslims on the board to help me out. Lets go, man. And this is reality.
I tell you you are daydreaming.

What you need to do is go through every single Yoruba town and tally all the indigenes by religion.

Your world is a tiny one- you need to get out more. Stop mixing with only muslims- broaden your mind and you'll see what you never noticed before.

I should start listing Yoruba towns? You're not serious.

You feel Lagos is an Islamic city - do you think having Muslim obas makes a place Islamic? The millions showing up at various Christian conventions all over town- are they Muslim? The muslims among them- did they tell you they're still practicing the religion?

All these ones who are always boasting and prophesying about how they're believing God for others to show up at their Holy Ghost Conventions- they wont come and drag this olabawale now so his eyes can be opened and he can start counting the Muslim population in Yoruba towns. undecided

Nigeria1, why were you calling my name everywhere.

This history you're claiming from 1957. A lot of things happened back then, and it was before Nigeria's independence anyway. There's been a lot of water under the bridge since that time.

Texas used to belong to Mexico. There are some who would like the US to return the state to Mexico. Along with California, and some other US territories. It's part of history, and the US can choose whether to go back to ancient borders or continue as they are now. I hope you're getting my point.

Each Nigerian tribe still has their ancient enmities even among themselves. its not like they still get along anyway, with or without Nigeria. There's a reason the Fulani were able to colonize Kwara- severe infighting within the Oyo kingdom gave them the avenue they'd been looking for all along. Abeokuta was founded for a reason- to escape slave traders and intertribal wars. Same story all over western Nigeria and beyond. And as the political turmoil of the 80s showed (especially in the west), we need to work on being more tolerant of each other even when we have different political orientations.

We're supposed to assess and learn from history, not blindly repeat it.

and werent you the one calling for more states on another thread? What's this tune you're singing now?

Are you from Ondo state by the way. The maps are interesting but you skipped Delta state and moved directly from Bayelsa to Ondo state. Isnt Delta supposed to be in between that region? pardon me if I'm wrong- I'm not too sure about the location of bayelsa.

Besides, putting the oilfields in Ondo state is only like transferring the problem- Ijaws control most of the riverine areas there, don't they?

funny guys are some of the biggest players around.

I mean the ones who have a sharp sense of humor and are wickedly funny.  They have charisma, charm and most times looks, and they use these assets with 99% effective results. A girl would have to be a confirmed man hater to resist these guys.

The downside is, more often than not, they're unrepentant casanovas who rarely bed one woman for any length of time.

Just my general observations. I've got some male family and friends like that.

very interesting maps.

Nigeria1- where did you get the flag and anthem? The flag sef resemble kenya own.

Nigerians no go kill themselves with wahala abeg. Each of the 300 tribes is coming up with different requests for states and autonomy. Lets assume the country breaks up into different tribal kingdoms- una wan kill oyibo and other foreigners with una jaw cracking names and pronounciation like the Ouagadougouans.

Non-Africans getting more and more confused by the various multiplicities of conglomerations abounding everywhere on the continent.

@ olabawle
@MC Usman: Most of us you see, the non arewa muslims on Nairaland are not from Kwara or Kogi. Rather we are from the deeper Yoruba enclaves of Nigeria; Ibadan Lagos, Abeokuta, Ilesha, Ife, Oyo, Oshogbo, Ijebu Igbo, etc, just to name a few places. Late MKO Abiola (ra), was from Abeokuta, and late Murtala Muhammad (ra), married Ajoke from this city. Dr. Olusola Saraki is married to a woman from Owo, in Ondo state. All these places and many more are Islamic. The notable Lawyer Gani (Abdalganyy) Faweyinmi, is from Ondo town. I know alot of Ekiti people who are Muslims.
are you ok?

What do you mean all these places are Islamic?

Since when does having Muslims in a town mean the place is Islamic? As if there are no other religions there?

You must be the kind of person who goes around implying almost all Yorubas are Muslim.

Only in your dreams, bro. undecided
