People get their names for different reasons.
I met a man not long ago from Eleme and his last name was Igwe. During our interaction, he told me his family is big and that the name 'Igwe' came about because his great great great grandfather didn't have a Male child for a long time and was desperate.

He had an Igbo trade partner who then took him to a shrine in Igboland called Igwekala. So he promised the shrine that if he is able to bear a Male child with the visit, he would name him after the shrine. Not long afterward, one of his wives got pregnant and gave him a Male child whom he named after the shrine in fulfillment of his vow.

Ikwerre people don't deny Igbo as if they have plague. Ikwerre people saying they are not Igbo is because they know their history and doesn't translate to hating Igbo as most of you interpret it even though in your hearts you don't see Ikwerre people as real Igbos. Many Ikwerre men and even women are married to Igbos and you can not marry the daughter of someone you hate or your enemy no matter how beautiful she is. I see nothing to gain from Ikwerre and other Igbo denials by Ndiigbo. Really nothing.

All those people you mentioned should also decide who they are and where they want to belong. Countries are not formed strictly by lumping the same ethnicity under one umbrella. It will not be strange because even though we think Ikwerre is Igbo, they don;t think they are. So, such association is meant to unite both sides that are not united at the moment. Even if Ikwerres agree to be Igbo, being Igbo will come naturally to them because they've drifted for too long. I'm neither referring to culture or traditional but more with socialization.

I like your civility. Many prominent Ikwerre people also belong to that association like the former Chief judge Justice Iche Ndu, former deputy governor Late Frank Eke, Emmanuel Aguma etc, but the fact is that, most members of that association also hold the strong view that Ikwerre is not Igbo even more than those with no Igbo connection.
