If the Ngwa man of Abia, the Nsukka man of Enugu, the Ezza man of Ebonyi all decide that they are not Igbo, then they are not because the only thing that separates them from Ikwerre is denial.

Being Igbo is not based on denial or acceptance, its all about your ancestral language and ancestral surname. Ikwerre people are just as Igbo as anybody else.

Ikwerre people know who they are and they have told that they are not Igbo. Just move on with your own identity and stop forcing yourself on others.

Uche's mother is from Umuahia and he grew up with strong affinity to them.

He is also a member of Association of Ikwerre people with Igbo kindred. If Ikwerre is Igbo, will it not be ridiculous that such association exists? Like having association of Ibadan people with Yoruba kindred , or the Association of Nnewi people with Igbo Kindred.

I know some ethnic group in the Volta region of Ghana that also trace their history to Benin after initially settling in Dahomey. Tell your story and let others tell theirs. You can't force yourself on people that know their history.

So why do you think they were not carved into Imo and Abia? During the regional government when the Igbos were at the helm of affairs, did they see and treat these people as Igbos? Do your research and find out the atrocities these people suffered in their hands. Till now do they really see you as Igbo if not for their political convenience because they feel it's what gives them the right to say that they must include the South South in their Biafra instead of the true Biafra of the 5 Eastern States.

I would suggest that you make effort to convince the rest of your family members to accept being Igbo first before addressing other ethnic groups just based on your experience at Yaba polytechnic.

The US will reject his citizenship application. I know people that have renounced their US citizenship for tax purposes so refusing to apply for citizenship is no achievement. My advice to you is to make your decision based on your personal circumstance and not what Sowore says. You call Reno a thief and an opportunist. No evidence of what he has stolen and no explanation of what your " opportunist" implies. My advice. Think for yourself. Because they know Nigeria is ant-Igbo and want none of the discimination.

You could easily get your answer by finding out if they ever claimed or were accepted as Igbo before what you call anti-Igbo began. At least the Igbos were running the show in the old Eastern region, were they counted among the Igbos then? I don't even want to go into the ill treatment they suffered under the Igbos because that is a topic for another time.

P.S Igbo is an ethnic group not a single tribe. There are many tribes in Igboland (like Isu, Ngwa, Ndoki, Aro, Orotta etc) As such the question of a single origin story for all Igbo is inappropriate. A large percentage of Igbo people don't claim to originate from Nri. I don't even know where you got that assertion from.

Now may I ask,
Who is an Igbo man?
Who or what defines an Igbo man?
If an Hausa man moves from Bauchi to settle in Umuahia, at what point in his generation can they become Igbos?
Is being Igbo defined by language, ancestral origin or by default of birth location? Thanks.

I have not seen the video you are talking about but like I said vaa is come for some, and bia for some others. Ikwerre has different dialects. Have you been to Emohua, Ndele, Rumuji, Ogbakiri etc? Even the 'bia' is pronounced differently by different Ikwerre tribes that use it.

The Igbos know this also but just for the desperation of wanting to claim that Portharcourt belongs to the Igbos that's the reason they are forcing their imagination of seeing Ikwerre people as Igbos. Ikwerre is not Igbo.

You can make your research on what I wrote here. Every contact with an empire surely leaves traces. Even the Igalas contact with old Benin has proofs. The Agaba-Idu, Attah of Igala wears a benin bronze sculpture on his neck till date. Notice the word 'Idu' in his praise name. I'll like to know the meaning of 'Agaba' in Igala language. In Lagos state, the presence of Idu confirms the benin influence too. Idumota, Idumagbo etc. As for Ikwerres, no single shared word with bini.
Let me tell you another lexicon that shows cultural influence. In Igbo language, there are two words to refer a warrior or strong man. These words are Odogwu and Dike. Most Igbos in the northern and western parts of Igboland easily use 'Odogwu' while the eastern and southern parts use 'Dike'. The Ikwerres who are in the southernmost part use 'Dike'. Odogwu is not part of their dialectical usage. This is another pointer that they've never had contact with the binis. There are too many pointers to ridicule any of their claim of bini as a place of origin.

Why are you masturbating over the decision of the Ikwerre people to tell their story. You tell your history and feel you are also in a position to tell other people there own history as well. The problem most you have is to interpret "I am not Igbo" to mean "I hate Igbos". Go ask your forefathers if and when they have ever regarded Ikwerre as Igbos. Ikwerre people have always had a name that they use in referring to Igbo people because they are not the same.

I posted this link where Bianca Ojukwu's brother also traced his family history to Bini but I noticed you guys are all pretending not to have read it. If that interview was by an Ikwerre person, most of you would have started asking for Bini artifacts and pots in Ngwo. Tell your story and let other people tell their's.

If you must know, it was an Ikwerre man the late Wobidike Wonodi SAN, who at the consultative assembly, asked the question about what would become the fate of the minorities in the scheme of things after the war when Biafra seceded. It was this question among others that actually made some Igbo elders to expose their hidden agenda towards the minorities should Biafra secede with some even making statements like "who the hell are the minorities?". This led some folks to begin to rethink their support for Biafra. If Ikwerre people are Igbos, Wonodi wouldn't have asked the question but he was asking on behalf of the minorities in the Eastern region. In any case, it's on record that the Igbos did not treat Ikwerre people as Igbos when they were running the show. The few Ikwerre people that had things going for them is either their mother was Igbo or they are married to Igbo.
