Family / Re: Yorubas And The 'Left-Hand' Issue by Travelista(f): 5:14pm On Aug 13, 2010 |
I'm a lefty and would NEVER hand something to someone using my left hand. It's not only Yorubas that see the left-hand as bad; some people in the West have that mentality as well. For the most part, that's died down but many cultures the world over still see the hand as unclean. To me, it's not a big deal to switch hands to give someone an item but it goes too far when you try to completely stop a child from using their dominant hand. |

I wouldn't risk this in anyway, shape or form. Mexico is notoriously brutal when it comes to entering their country under false pretenses. Someone mentioned the Nigerian embassy in DF; good luck with that. There are tens of Nigerians wasting away in those jails and the diplomats can't exactly spring you out of jail, especially when you're committing identity fraud. If you do enter Mexico and decide to cross the border, again, good luck with that. Most border towns are predominantly Latino; as a Black man, you'd stick out like a sour thumb. I don't think you're trying to draw attention to yourself with someone else's documents, are you? As for your friend, if you are caught, the both of you are in trouble. If he's foolish enough to jeopardize his status in this country, more power to him but what about you? Are you looking to be flagged for a set number of years just because you want to experience America by fire or by force? What's so great about America that you're willing to enter illegally at this time (of all times)? Be smart and don't do this. Even if you do get in, you won't be able to get ID or a social and you need those for the most basic of tasks; think this through. 1 Like |

Well, she was stupid enough to believe that her guy wouldn't care about her boning someone else and she was even dumber for telling such a lie. Oh well! She's now learned a lesson in the most painful of ways; next time she'll learn not to trivialize her relationships and act like a big girl. |
Politics / Re: Why Bankole Disembarked from BA Flight by Travelista(f): 4:35pm On Aug 13, 2010 |
Security's a big issue and they were right to ask to search his bags. If he didn't want to comply, then he can find another carrier (which he did). Had Bankole had explosives in that bag and caused havoc, the same people demanding special treatment for him would be calling for the head of the agent that let him through without a pat down. I remember years ago, the Crown Prince of Spain felt that he was above being searched before boarding a commercial flight in Miami; he was upset but the security guard stood his ground as he should have. I'd rather someone suffer a bruised ego than lament a poor decision later. |

Manny, why do you keep going back and editing your comments? You're original comment was nothing like what you have posted now. |
Politics / Re: Gay Nigerian Activist Bisi Alimi Shares His Compelling Story by Travelista(f): 12:43am On Aug 13, 2010 |
manny4life: Manny, stop while you're still ahead. You, of all people, aren't capable of schooling me on anything, let alone constitutional law (*snort*), when you claim that the original constitution spoke of equality for sexual orientation. The men that the Founding Fathers were talking about as having been created equal were White, male land owners. I even mentioned 1 Black counting as 3/5 of a person; on what planet does that indicate equality amongst men? FL_Gators already gave a basic primer on rights and subsequent amendments; I suggest you read what she wrote and keep your smarm away from me. |
Politics / Re: Gay Nigerian Activist Bisi Alimi Shares His Compelling Story by Travelista(f): 12:25am On Aug 13, 2010 |
manny4life: You believe in the founding constitutional rights? Are you sure? Is it the same original constitution only gave voting rights to White, male property owners and counted every Black person as 3/5 of a person? There's no mention of sexual orientation amongst those founding rights and, if they had an idea about the brouhaha that would erupt over marriage 2 centuries later, those same founding fathers would have spelled out marriage as between man and wife. Equality for sexual orientation only became a buzz phrase in the past 20-25 years, so again: what founding rights are you talking about? As for the comment I made about DP's nastiness, there are some that see gays as sexually aggressive and he's playing right into that stereotype. Instead of wasting your time with me, why don't you talk to your boy and ask him to tone down the crassness and stop being a caricature? |
Politics / Re: Gay Nigerian Activist Bisi Alimi Shares His Compelling Story by Travelista(f): 12:07am On Aug 13, 2010 |
manny4life: Manny, I think you have a boycrush on DawgPound! That's really cute but stop answering for him; he's a big boy. And it has everything to do with gay rights; there are some that see homosexuality as sexual deviancy. All we've heard from DP has been sexual. I'd like to think there's more to him than that but maybe not. I'm starting to get the feeling that DP is what he's representing himself as but that's just me. |
Foreign Affairs / Re: Gay Bar To Open Next To Mosque Near Ground Zero, New York. by Travelista(f): 12:04am On Aug 13, 2010 |
So, two groups that are looked down upon are about to set upon each other like dogs for our entertainment. What kills me are the so-called 'open-minded' people that can't see through this mess; a man from FOX News is behind this and people are applauding continued bigotry. What do you think his real purpose is here? |
Politics / Re: Gay Nigerian Activist Bisi Alimi Shares His Compelling Story by Travelista(f): 7:02pm On Aug 12, 2010 |
manny4life: 'Anyway' indeed. Your shirts and ties come up to your ears, Manny? Your sleeves cover the tops of your hands? Perception is huge and many in HR will trash an application when someone comes through with markings like DawgPound's (I know because I've done it); there's nothing 'irrelevant' about tats like his. Corporate America is still very conservative, regardless of what's happening on the streets. |
Celebrities / Re: 50 Cent Goes Mel Gibson On Shyne by Travelista(f): 6:57pm On Aug 12, 2010 |
5p1naz: Ok, take a break and breath. I didn't say 'Fat Joe' but a Fat Joe as in someone of his caliber. For 50 Cent to sell 500k units, it's a flop when you take in to consideration his other work, which his label does. Pop music only means popular music; it can be country, rock, hip-hop, r&B. . .it just means it's consumable by the masses. I never mentioned 50 falling off internationally but he's falling off, period. He's not on Jay's level and he sure isn't on Em level, so how is he the most traveled hip-hop artist? |
Politics / Re: Gay Nigerian Activist Bisi Alimi Shares His Compelling Story by Travelista(f): 6:51pm On Aug 12, 2010 |
manny4life: Don't side step what I said: I specifically asked about the tats that creep up his neck towards his ears and the ones on the tops of his hand. Don't ignore pertinent words and try to school me on what they do in the DMV; I've lived in bigger cities and worked in HR, sleeves and full torso tats are nothing new but you reach the point of no return once you're going above the shoulders and below the wrists. The people that you encounter with such ink in the real world (ie away from entertainment) are prison birds, on their way there or rendered unemployable unless they cover the images up before heading to work. |
Politics / Re: Gay Nigerian Activist Bisi Alimi Shares His Compelling Story by Travelista(f): 6:45pm On Aug 12, 2010 |
Dawgpound: You can call me whatever you like: doesn't change the fact that you look like a star from "Lock'd Up: RAW". I said your ink looks like you got it in prison; kini big deal, cry baby? You don't know me, so you don't know how educated I am but I'll bet dollars to donuts I'll trump whatever certificate/Associate's degree you claim to possess. I asked about the date and. . .nothing. Are you sure that's you in that picture or are you flexing with someone else's photo? You like 'exotic' things. . .interesting. You come off as someone that follows the crowd thinking they're being 'different' but that's your life and you can live it the way you see fit, as long as it doesn't encroach upon me and mine. As I said to your jock rider, Manny: few professional places will hire someone with the tattoos you have; it's nothing against you because I don't have to worry about how you feed yourself but it was an observation I made. Don't like it, ignore my posts. |
Politics / Re: Gay Nigerian Activist Bisi Alimi Shares His Compelling Story by Travelista(f): 6:37pm On Aug 12, 2010 |
manny4life: Umm, Manny. . .you're going to need to tone it down. You're talking about stereotypes and saying 'niggaz' in the same sentence? You can't be serious. I asked because his tats look like prison ink and few professional places will hire someone with ink on the top of their hands or their necks. You're looking hella weak right about now but that's all I'll say. |

Celebrities / Re: 50 Cent Goes Mel Gibson On Shyne by Travelista(f): 6:25pm On Aug 12, 2010 |
5p1naz: For a Fat Joe, 500k units pushed is a wonderful thing but when 50's pulling those kind of numbers. . .his album is a flop, no two ways about it. Granted, being in the digital age of downloads (legal and otherwise) it's harder to pull numbers similar to a million the first week (that was pretty standard amongst pop artists. . .don't get mad, 50 counts as pop!) but for Curtis to sell less than a million WORLDWIDE?! That's depressingly sad. As for this: last time i checked, 50cent is the only american artist to have toured most part of the world, and last time i checked, this n1gga is on tour. . . hitting hard on em. . . . . You have to be exaggerating. 50 is a nobody when it comes to superstar American musicians. He can't even hold a candle to artists old enough to be his parents like Bruce Springsteen, Madonna, Bon Jovi. . .50 isn't even a blip on the radar compared to these guys. If you want to focus on people closer to 50's age, then look no further than Eminem, Beyonce, Britney Spears, etc. They've seen success in places that 50 can't touch, so where are you getting the info that 50 is the only American to tour a majority of the world? When was the last time he headlined a tour and it made money? |
Celebrities / Re: 50 Cent Goes Mel Gibson On Shyne by Travelista(f): 6:13pm On Aug 12, 2010 |
The_Critic: No, 50 is still on his period and needs to get a life. All he does is beef with people that are busy living their lives while he PMS and cries about it. How are you in BX and not know that Shyne has been out of jail for MONTHS? Really, though? Shyne isn't worried about Curtis; Shyne's father is the leader of Belize, so he's straight. What's 50 doing other than being bitchmade and not selling any records? *crickets* Not a damned thing. Shyne wasn't 'too big' because he was thrown in jail just as he was starting to take off; don't act brand new on the kid. He made his biggest mistake getting involved with Diddy and he paid the price; hopefully, he (and others) have learned not to dine with the devil and think you'll still get to live after wards. As for Rick Ross and being the best lyricist? Things are truly slow in the business when that Grape Ape looking negro is considered the best at anything other than eating; I shouldn't even be surprised: Drake is considered the best thing since sliced bread (in regards to hip-hop) and Kanye just called Eminem and Nicki Minaj the 1st and 2nd greatest rappers of all time. |

Travel / Re: FIRST TIME ABROAD by Travelista(f): 12:45am On Aug 10, 2010 |
Don't remember my first time abroad; I was too young. I do remember a trip we took when I was about 3 or so: we took British Caledonian (gosh, I'm old) and I forgot my sweater on the plane. I remember making a huge fuss about not having it and as we were walking back to the gate to see if we could retrieve it, a stewardess came up to us and handed over my cardigan! Man, air travel as a kid used to be fun: they'd give you little knapsacks full of activity books, colored pencils, a pair of wings for your shirt, you could meet the captain in the cockpit. . .now, you're held captive while the buffalo beside you invades your personal space and breathes through her mouth. |

davidylan: *blank stare* I've asked nicely for you to ignore my posts, so why do you refuse to do so? Maybe YOU should reread my post and expand your mind before you get quick at the fingers and call my posts 'crap'. What rock do you live under not to know that you can enter this country illegally? Thousands try it every day and here you are trying to be slick. Just stop. The sister still has a chance to become legal; she entered the country legally and overstayed her visa. She has a sister that is filing for her; these things take time. All she can do (bearing in mind that she hasn't received a rejection letter) is comply with the US laws as best she can. If she really wants to know what's going on, she can get an immigration lawyer to find out what the hold up is; it could be something as simple as USCIS not having a current address for her. Besides, it doesn't sound like the woman is going for a visa but for permanent residency. David, hun, please explain to me what a 'resident visa' is? I've never heard of such a thing; are you talking about a green card? Besides, stop scaring April22 in to thinking her SIL is going to automatically get deported. Really, what is wrong with you? Are you completely devoid of positive energy? |

Foreign Affairs / Re: Prop 8 Gay Marriage Ban Repealed, Overturned In California by Travelista(f): 1:03pm On Aug 09, 2010 |
Sagamite: There are Christian polygamists; in the US, they even have their own state. Oddly enough, the Mormons were HUGE financial contributors to Prop 8 and were attacked as 'freaks' by the opposition; the hypocrisy was blinding. But, you're right about this issue being a slippery slope but at the end of the day, the ban isn't constitutional. In this country, the most basic of things has to be spelled out (in big bold letters) before it will be accepted. Leave a centimeter for interpretation and someone will take advantage of it. It's only a matter of time before churches will be dragged in to the mire and told they need to perform gay marriages or lose their tax-exempt status. |
Travel / Re: Us Immigration Advice by Travelista(f): 1:19am On Aug 09, 2010 |
davidylan: You saw 'Travelista' and refused to ignore the post? Anyway, the sister can be illegal but she may not have been illegal when she entered this country. If she's turned her paperwork in to immigration and they haven't sent her a letter of rejection, chances are that she's just going to have to wait her turn; it's coming but the wait can be long. Illegal aliens (especially those that are trying to correct their situation) hurt themselves when they go off the radar; if she's stays on the straight and narrow, it improves her case. |
