LordReed:ok let me answer your question and see what you got Yes Coca-Cola is unnecessary to quench thirst because there are or there is a perfect substitute. You can switch from coca -cola So? |
LordReed:You made an false assertion at the beginning of this thread and I and some other person called you out for it Up till this moment you have not been able to provide any reasonable argument to support your declaration that no one who has believed in a god has achieved anything worthwhile in life.Instead you continue to deflect and now want me to answer a question which is obviously a means to avoid the main issue. Next time make sure you have all the facts before saying anything if not you continue to expose ignorance. Have a wonderful day |
LordReed:You believe you have found a convenient excuse to avoid clearing the mess you initially created? You cannot fool me |
LordReed:While it's a proven fact that faith in a god can be a source of useful motivation for attaining any goal in life even if the object of faith may not be real ,Coca-Cola has never been proven to quench thirst or completely eradicate it.So what's your point? and how does this answer the question of why you want someone to abandon what seems to be working for another which you have not been able to mention? What are these other sources of motivation you want switching to? and how does it work? |
LordReed:These are your words "Faith in a god is unnecessary for anything worthwhile in this life." What else can the above imply! |
LordReed:You trying to trow away the baby with the bath water. Let those who want to practice faith be allowed to do so except they threaten us with.If it seems to work for them then fine .We can only advise them to apply common sense |
LordReed:I am looking at things dispassionately. So my emphasis is not whether faith is true or not What I am concern with is the effect which comes from practising any kind of faith. The object of faith doesn't have to be true hence it can be liking to placebo. But the question is ,does it work? yes .pyschlogical studies confirm this. I was once a deeply religious person and can confirm that the motivation which comes from religious faith is unmatched by no other. This explains why most find it difficult to leave and those who have left sometimes return. But have since abandon religious faith because common sense is most difficult to apply with it.Things can get out of hand and it can led to disaster .That's my argument against religious faith. However those who are able to moderate it are doing just fine. Most prominent sports persons are those who practice faith |
LordReed:Haba LordReed! How can something be both necessary and unnecessary at the same time..If you already agree that faith can be source of motivation which is necessary for success how can it then become unnecessary again? I understand as an atheist faith can be indispensable but for those who rely on faith it cannot. So why do you want the faith based person to change his source of motivation? You have not answered this |
LordReed:I never said faith was indispensable. You initially said that faith in a god is not necessary to achieve anything worthwhile and I responded that based on established facts it is not true. That faith can act as a source of motivation. Your response showed that you agreed to this but that people can switch their source of motivation. Then I asked you, if faith is working for some persons why asking them to change? You have failed to answer this and not only that you have gone on to deny everything you already said Please go back to all your post on this thread. Now finally, how can faith be unnecessary for those it seems to working for.Infact it has been demonstrated that it actually can work if not it would not be regarded as the opium of the masses. I am concern with faith as source of motivation and not whether God exist or not.I don't expect you not to know what motivation is |
LordReed:Of course I know your motivation can from anything. But why do you want someone to switch his source of motivation if he seems to be benefiting from it? |
LordReed:Faith in a God can actually be necessary factor for success. According to experts in psychology having faith in a god can serve as a motivating factor in ones success. It does not matter if the object of belief is real or not .As long as you strongly believe, it could make you do things you would not ordinarily do I do not belong to any religious group. But we need to understand why some persons will continue believe in what they believe in even if they don't fully understand it |
So if you were truly convinced that you had the best evidence and best reasons for believing god how were you able to change your mind (if you did)?
I have checked and did not see where you mentioned that the definition is that of the skeptic community.well it doesn't matter now let's look at the more important things You know sometimes having an intellectual understanding of something may not be enough to understand how a thing works..You need some kind of working experience or a demonstration to completely know what you have been taught. If you have never had any sort of religious belief before and actually practice it then it's difficult to understand how anyone could have faith in anything without evidence. Faith as I understand it then is not a complete rejection of objective truth.Faith recognises what you regard as truth but rejects it if it becomes a threat. For instance if a true believer or someone with faith is diagnosed of having an incurable illness the fiirst reaction is to reject it.But from the report nothing can change this diagnosis,.This is the truth .What does the faith person do? He says its lie of the devil. It cannot be true and decides to pray to change it Well I don't know if you will accept this. Some persons have had a miraculous turn around after praying.I have had experiences in the pastwhere my health improved after been prayed for Of course it's expected at those times to conclude its a godthat was responsible. But I now know better I will come back to this later So faith is way of focusing on what you have come to accept as truth based on your personal experience even if it goes against every other established truth out there.Whiith faith you create your own truth even if outer evidence does not support it.I am sure so many person who practice faith would tell you the same if you ask them .What can you tell someone who prays for a job and in a dream he is directed to go to certain company and apply. He does this and the jobs .That's not all the exact salary to be paid he already knows this from the dream.is that not evidence ?or is it coincidence? I had some experiences similar this in the past. But why did I stop believing? Well ,the first reason I think could be my family background my father was an atheist but he never stopped me and my siblings from going to church..And so his life became a point of reference later in my own life when started to experience a crisis of Faith. What I believe no longer works and I was on the brink. Then one day while thinking of what to do I suddenly remembered my late father and reasoned that when he was alive ,he never experienced what I am now experiencing and he never believed in any god.why is my case different? something must be wrong with what I believe. So I took the courage to find out the truth about what I have come to accept as "truth" .At the initial stage I was filled with much trepidation each time I read what shattered my religious beliefs. My major worry was fear.Fear of witches and wizards.Who is going to protect me now? But fortunately for me ,my late father was a point of reference. He used to tell us that witches are not real When we ask him what of those who confess to been witches? He says any such person has mental problem. So whenever fear comes,I look back to my late father and started getting courage to overcome my fears which kept me stuck to my former religion. If no witches attacked my late father and he lived closed to 80 years what was the basis for my fear. What most people in this part of the world would not admit is that it is the fear of witches that drive them to attending churches. They are looking for a safe haven. And finally the most liberating thing was that I got explanations for what was responsible for those miracles I had .God was not involved. My mind was largely responsible and I have been able to have some of those experiences even now when I no longer subscribe to the conventional God.I am nor asking any to follow me . Believe what you believe as long as you don't try forced it down my throat. My current position is due to my past experiences and I am not looking back |

@bacteriologist below is your definition of faith and what you think it actually means in the Bible; "Religious faith is having no reason to believe in something and still going ahead to believe in that thing and preaching that thing as true." You have continued to maintain the above and insist that any other definition is wrong .But as a former believer, it's very obvious that your definition of faith is not as the religious person sees it You say that faith means" having no reason to believe in somthing but the "true believer" who has faith believes he has a"valid reason"to believe in what he believes if not he would not be motivated to preach to you. What you regard as" no reason" may actually be is reason for having faith For instance, a religious person or a Christian says that the reason or evidence for God is the world we live in or the "truth" that is contained in the Bible. At the moment he is not ready to reject or question what he has come to accept as evidence or reason for faith So you can see that you are the one who sees"no reason" to have faith. It's not so for the Christian .I hope you understand this? Before now, I was certain about what I thought was the evidence for the God I believed in and no one could convince me otherwise but right now I have moved ahead. What I learnt from my experience is that it's a waste of time trying to convince a "true believer" to abandon their faith. You will continue to hit your head on the wall. They don't and can never see things the way you see it |
Ebubeagu1:Very sure what you have said is true. Whereas Pentecostal pastors with very limited or no at all training will continue to behave as they know it all |
Someone once told me that to be an priest in the Catholic Church you must ,apart from the strict rigorous training, acquire a form of education that is equivalent to that of Prof unlike their Pentecostal counterparts who mostly half baked charlatans. The write up from this priest and others recently is an obvious confirmation of what I have already been told and I'm not surprised. If others continue to speak out it would be certain that the way Christianity is practised in this part of the world would definitely change which would forced people to use their head(brain) more We have so many neurotic individuals masquerading as genuine men of God in the Pentecostal arm of Christianity and misleading millions of ignorant persons Why should any sane person listen to someone who ask you to sow a seed of money in order for God to make you a millionaire without any business plan in place or keep you in perfect health when you don't even know anything about how your body works and how to take care of it So many gullible people in our society |
Avoiding red meat is good advice . But it's difficult to accept that after the flood herbivorous animals were forced to eat meat due to absence of vegetation Their mouth parts are not adapted to eat meat Reno should rethink is story |
Righteousness89:Why didn't you say so before now if you know it's the right thing to see a doctor after praying |
Righteousness89:When you compare it with those who have died visiting pastors I think it's safer to see a doctor first before anything It won't reduce your faith and it will help you know what exactly is the cause of your problem so you can deal with it appropriately. Not everything is spiritual. if you are hungry you eat to eliminate your hunger you don't pray inorder fill your stomach |
The idea that an external force can influence people without their consent into doing things which some person's consider evil or bad is a scare tactics used by certain religious groups to recruit members. Once an individual accept such false beliefs or teachings it becomes extremely difficult to have any control over ones life. The person is powerless to stop any negative habits since he now believes that something outside of himself is responsible for his behaviour Even when the individual is prayed for ,as long as he or she still harbor such false belief,it becomes a struggle to stop and not understaning what is happening the person starts running from pastor to pastor, church to church for the elusive Deliverance that never comes. If it's actually true that demons influence people against their will to do things which goes against their well-being or that of others, what is the explanation of some non religious persons or atheist who seem not to be affected by these demons and whose behaviour can be described as morally upright? how do they manage to have such control over their lives? The truth of the matter is that we are responsible either consciously or unconsciously for what we do and whatever happens to us.We should learn to take responsibility without which we cannot be free.Nothing can influence us if don't consent to it The essential message of Jesus which I see in the people Bible is an empowering one and not of fear of demons "if you believe, you can do anything and achieve the impossible" T.B Joshua is a business man who is taking advantage of ignorant souls to promote is business .That's the truth of the matter |
Demaduka:Just look at how confused you are. |
Hairyrapunzel:I am not looking for anyone to blame. I have only responded to someone comment. You did not see the person Iquoted? It was the person I responded to that was looking for who to blame. Please try to understand a situation before you say anything I am not even a witness |
Maximus69:So anything information that appears on the internet is valid? I am asking for the specific link where you got your information from so I can verify things myself ok.I have seen it .it is not only snakes even humans at a time had a tail. The disappearance of legs from snakes is due to genetic factors and not because God place a cursed on snakes. It appears you ignored that information from your rresrarch |
You're on point Sir. Satan wasn't mentioned in the event. It was God's only begotten son JESUS CHRIST while revealing sacred secrets to his beloved Apostle John that he told us that Satan used the serpent in Genesis as a puppet. So that's how true Christians IDENTIFIED that serpent as Satan! Revelations 12:9 And as regards the curse, well God's word said the serpent will continue to move about on it's belle. It's just few decades ago after a thorough research on the skeleton of snakes that we discovered that they supposed to have FOUR LEGS. But why the legs disappeared our scientists couldn't figure out the answer. That's why a former military intelligence officer like me have to bow to the wisdom found in God's word (Bible)! ![]() [/quo Please can you share the link to the research done on snakes which puzzled scientist. |
WHAT IF AFTER GIVEN THE CHILD BLOOD, AND THE CHILD DIES, WHO WILL THEN TAKE THE BLAIM?[/quot Fortunately, the child did not die. Now, if the government had not intervened and the child later died who would then received the blame? |
Emmanueltvscoan:The advertised products do they work? All the people I know who have used those items did not receive any healing.Infact three of them later died Any reason for this? |
If it's true that one can actually get healing anywhere why not say so in the first place? What is the purpose of attending the healing school for a week if I can be healed anywhere(at home)? Why not tell me the truth before now ?Why wait on till the last day? How is this sort of behaviour different from that of scammers who hide certain information from their victims in other to defraud them? I really do not blame these people. They continue to succeed because their victims are living in ignorance or think there is no alternative |
Man claims cure for blindness as hundreds troop to herbal facility Mankessim, a commercial town in the Central Region, is noted for foodstuff, fish and meat. But for some time now, people from all walks of life have been trooping to the town not to shop for these items but to seek healing for various eye challenges, including blindness. This follows the discovery of a medicine by a herbalist in the town, which has been acclaimed to cure all kinds of eye diseases, including the dreadful glaucoma, which medical doctors say has no cure. Observation The herbalist, 60-year-old Mr John Kofi Sackey, aka Odopee, is the proprietor of Odopee Herbal Research and Learning Centre at Mankessim. The Daily Graphic has visited the centre twice in the last two weeks and met many people receiving treatment. Unlike the orthodox solutions, which prescribe various forms of surgery and medication, the herbal solution was not applied directly on the eyes. Rather, the herbalist pours the liquid preparation onto a piece of dry wood, puts the wood in a small plastic container for the patient to watch with widely opened eyes for 10 minutes. The Daily Graphic also observed that the patients, most of them above 60 years, repeated the process three times a day. After exposing the eyes to the invisible rays of the drug, the patients are made to walk for some time. They rest for two or three hours and resume the treatment. Mr Sackey said some of the patients regained their sight on the first day of treatment. Health authorities The Mfantseman Municipal Director of the Ghana Health Service (GHS), Mr Martin Daanko, told the Daily Graphic last Wednesday that even though the drug had not undergone any scientific analysis, his personal observation at the herbal centre and the numerous testimonies of cured patients pointed to the efficacy of the herbal medicine. He said he was particularly happy that the medication was not applied directly on the eyes. Mr Daanko also commended Mr Sackey for procuring more than 30 licences, certificates, testimonials, citations and recommendations from recognised institutions, including the Traditional Medicine Practice Council of the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Health Procurement Unit, signed by a former Deputy Minister of Health, Mr Robert Joseph Mettle-Nunoo. The Municipal Health Director, who visited the centre in the company of the Human Resource Manager at the Municipal Health Directorate, Mr Emmanuel Asante-Aboagye, promised that his outfit would help Mr Sackey to go through the various tests required to certify his herbal preparation for eye diseases at the Centre for Plant Medicine Research, Akuapem-Mampong, and the Noguchi Memorial Institute for Tropical Diseases. Collaboration He, however, advised Mr Sackey to collaborate with the Saltpond Government Hospital by sending all eye patients who reported at his herbal centre to the facility for examination before attending to them, and resend them to the hospital to certif Read more http://thebftonline.com/ |
This your post is way lot better in position than our last engagement which was upon hypnosis versus deliverance and I appreciate that. This topc is a different one entirely so I have responded based on what is before me I know that your picture of God isn't the conventional (like us church people will believe). However, a starting point t is to know that 1. Spirits exist. Spirits are beings of non Physical dimensions. They are intelligent, emotional and possess most attributes of human beings (I believe that human attributes are derivatives/immitiation of their emotional, intellectual and attributes) 2. God is a Spirit: Yes God is Spirit: and hence has attributes of a living being and NOT just a force. God is the PRIMARY SPIRIT and the source of all other spirit s. I do not agree with the above.Thete is no evidence of a singular entity called God if there is, it is not know. What some of us know or refer to as God is the unseen energy which pervades all of existence. 3. Angels are Spirits: Angels are created spirits for the purpose of serving God. 4. Satan is a spirit: There is no entity called Satan Satan was an angel who rebelled against God with at least a third of the angels of God. The rebellious angels are called fallen angels 5. Demons are spirits: Demons are hybrids between fallen angels and human spirits. They are neither human nor angels. They are malevolent in nature: very similar to microbes to living tissue. Well ,even if they exist why should I bother about them when they do not affect me in anyway.I am more interested in dealing with humans I can see physically 6. Humans are Spirits: Humans are also spirits but a hybrid of both Physical (animal) and Spiritual. The only issue is that human spirit is SICK(PARALYSIS ) because of contamination with spiritual pathogen (seems similar to HIV) It's unfortunate that your religious indoctrination has made you accept what is not true about yourself, Man as spirit occupying a physical body is not sick.We share the same attributes with the divine . However due to the limitations of the physical body we are not aware of this or find it difficult to accept our divine nature. But we can learn to operate from our position as spirit-beings occupying a physical body if we know how.The how of this is not taught within most religion.Jesus did not come to die for anybody sin but to teach just like himsel thatf we are one with God,spirit or whatever you choose to call it hence the statement "The kingdom of God is within you' I had to go through the lenthy explanation to lay the foundation of the next presentation. Now back to your explanation of healing by faith. Faith itself is NOT Believing. Faith is ACTING based on TRUST in God's integrity. It's difficult to have faith in a God you have not experienced.Beleve is always the starting point and with experience comes faith What heals is when a Spirit acts on the Physical is such a way as to suspend the normal laws of nature. It's not WILL POWER of BELIEVING something. But the Bible says "if ye believe...... However ,there is an element of truth in what you have said.Spirit acts on the physical but this action is always activated by something . Thought in the form of strong belief is one of the things that can result in it's activation. This is the real cause for the placebo effect which science is battling to understand.Science is not interested in the spiritual so it's understandable why they ignore the action of spirit Some humans are more like conduits for "a spirit" to act. I want to believe that T.B. Joshua is one of such. Everyone can act as conduit for spirit.Even atheist who do not believe in any God are doing this through self believe and achieving results If TB Joshua is a conduit for healing powers of an almighty God what is happening to others whofailed to receive healingl. is the power of God limited? A baby can be healed through spiritual intervention but I'm sure you won't attribute such healings to faith from the baby. A baby is yet to have control over its mind and can be easily influenced by external circumstances so it's possible for a baby to receive healing through suggestions made by someone through prayer Please if you have a baby that you believe is I'll the best place to go is an hospital. There is no way the pastor can know exactly what is wrong with the baby.If you pray for the baby how can you confirm the healing is complete .Would a child yet to talk confirm this for you.Its madness for anyone to take their baby to a church for prayers instead of an hospital Even TB Joshua does not encourage this.I know this from family members and friends who attend the synagogue. If you carry a baby there for healing you will directed to immediately see a doctor. You can confirm from anyone who attends that church. If you are doing this please stop it.its pure evil.A lot of foolish and ignorant parents have lost their babies doing so.In some counties you will get yourself arrested if the police gets to know [ /quote] |
shadeyinka:I have watched the video and I have no doubt that the man received a healing TB Joshua has gone past the point of stage managing miracles. He does not need to do that anymore Now let's go to the main thing. What is the cause of the healing? Science has explained that if anyone sufficiently believes without any iota of doubt that something or someone can heal them it actually can result in a healing Studies undertaking to understand how the placebo effect work has proven this time and time again. So there is no doubt that people can get healing through faith.I have had that sort of faith before and got healed However , science says such healing does not confirm the existence of God.The placebo does not contain anything that can result in healing but people who take them get cured because they are made to think (believe)they are taking the real thing So it doesn't matter what you believe in . whether your God exist or not as long as you have any such strong believe it can result in a healing or can be of help in any other situation Did the Prof got healed yes .How ?,by believing that TB Joshua can heal him.But does TB Joshua posses such powers? |
@shadeyinka I would have loved to give my opinion on the healing but since it's for a few selected friends to respond to,I would restrain myself except permitted |
It's always difficult to accept that people will always act based on their level of awareness What anyone does at anytime is based on what they know.If they know better they would do bettet Jesus said," father forgive them for they do not know what they do" A person's action should not be used to define them. When we do so ,we deny them the freedom to learn from their mistakes and move ahead @ op please allow this young lady be Apart from the sextape there is not much we know about her. |
