amicdan: Thanks boss. Had to edit my post for more clarity.
The issue I am having is that the battery drop from 5 bars ( Full charge ) to 3 bars after 2 minutes or less on any load no matter how small, then remains on on 3 bar for like 3 hours before I power down the setup. Ok, My recommendation is still the same. Or do you want to go and buy another battery? |

amicdan: Hi House. My charge controller drops from 5 bar ( 13.6 volts ) to 3bar ( 12.4 volts ) after full charge on a load of 150 watts. What could be the issue ? Setup was done a week ago. Note had to charge with external intelligent 20amps charger to full bar.
This is my set up :
1. 2 x 335 watt GCL panel in series 2. 60 amp PWM Charge controller 3. 220amps Caesar tubular Battery 4. 1KVA MSW Inverter When using a PWM controller, for a 12v system, ideally your panels should not go beyond 200w per module except the distance from PV to your controller is very far. If you want more power, then you parallel more panels of same range and make proper cable provisions for minimal voltage drop before power gets to the battery. Recommendation: 1. Buy an MPPT controller 2. Change your panels to 200w units and parallel them, then sell of the 335w modules 3. Buy more 335w modules and parallel with existing units. Note that apart from the total load on your system, in this case 150w, how long you run this load(s) on the battery and time of day also matters aka load profile. |

easyyoke: Will 25mm wire be able to enter those small small holes that most of these MPPT charge controllers come with. Cos 25mm is quite thick Why are you running 80amps? That's a lot of current for an SHS. Well if you must, then use a cable ferrule to terminate the cable before connecting.keep close watch on temperature of that setup too. |

My tubular batteries are very low as they're showing 20v on the cc,but the issue I have now is I'm seeing the charging voltage from the cc,but not the wattage,I don't know if that makes any sense.
The inverter also isn't on atm because I intend to charge to 27v atleast before powering it on.
Could the inverter not being on be the reason why I can't see the wattage from the panels? Did you configure it for tubular battery? |

My budget is 250k. It's just to power my laptop for my work throughout the day.. no tv, fridge.
Thank you . There is a guy that sells lithium battery bank with DC adaptors for laptops and rechargeable fans. I think you are a better off with that solution than a full inverter installation at the budget. DC to DC is very very efficient. It also comes with small DC bulbs on request that won't drain your battery so fast. |

princely009: Thanks for the response. So best advise to prevent losses is to get a separate charge controller for both panels? The total panels are 10. The owner initially installed 7 panels (PANEL 2), then he recently bought 3 panels (PANEL 1) to upgrade the installation from another source (Fouani). Installed 7 panels? What configuration did he use? I'll suggest you go ahead with the addition if your CC can accommodate it. Remember that your PV rarely stays at Pmp state for so long. Except budget is not a problem. |

BlueStripper: Thank you so much Sir. Since last week I made up my mind to upgrade to a 24v system.
If anyone has a 24v system for sale, 2.5 to 3.5kva, please let me know.
I beg, the inverter must have low power consumption. I don't want to add more troubles to my trouble.
Insha Allah, I am buying a bigger lithium pack from Valto. Since I tasted Lithium, I have had peace of mind.
I don't know which devil pushed me to buy this Tubular Batteries. I regret it Walahi. I have an open box, pure sine wave 1.6kw sachet inverter. Low idle power consumption. ...Also solar panels of various capacities, both used and new. Shoot me a mail if interested. |
Satellite TV Technology › Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by Trippledots(m): 10:55am On Feb 22, 2024 |
BlueStripper: Update Guys,
I have added the second 560 watts panel in series to the CC and removed the 180 watts Africell panels. So it's now 2pcs of 560amps half cut solar panels.
Please see my yield as at 10:35am.
I also attached an external battery meter (kindly ignore other readings on the screen). The battery meter and my voltmeter gives me 12.9 when Powmr CC shows 13.3
N/B my freezer is currently connected to the setup and running. You are maxing out the current capacity of that CC, at that rate the CC heats up and overheat protection will be activated and the CC will enter protection mode, stop charging for that while till the CC temp drops to around 45°C before it picks again. At the end of the day, you battery will end up not charging well. You are better of switching to a 24v system or adding a cooling fan to help keep it cool. Talking from experience. I am currently planning to upgrade to a 48v system, so as to keep things running cooler and also extract more power from my PV and controller. |

BlueStripper: Good Morning Everyone,
My apologies for the confusion. I was so angry yesterday.
I have an independent lithium setup that's different from the lead acid setup. Each setup has its specific load assigned to it.
Like I said, I decommissioned the Fullriver batteries because they have served me for many years. I wanted a longer runtime so I switched to Tall Tubular Batteries.
My panels are 1pcs of 560 watts generic solar panel and 2 Pcs of 180 watts Africell solar panels connected in 2S1P array configuration.
For charging, sometimes I get over 900 watts of energy from the panel at full sunlight. And over 60amps from the CC to these batteries.
I believe I have answered all the questions asked.
Thank you so much Good thing you are calmer now.. First thing I want to point out is your PV configuration. So I assume you connected two 180w in series then this in parallel with a 560w panel. The difference in watts between the 560w and 360w panels is too much and the 360w ones will get damaged if your battery is full and no load to push power to. About your battery, 1. Maybe the battery is an old stock and is already failing 2. Powmr old model controller, doesn't track battery voltage very well @12v configuration. Use a standalone voltmeters to confirm what voltage the battery actually gets to at absorb and float. Another thing is tubular batteries need to be equalized once in a while, so maybe you can manually do that by charging to around 15v. You may need to check Google to know how to manually do it, or experienced people here can chime in. I don't have much experience with tubular batteries. Cheers |

BlueStripper: Good Evening Guys, I have a problem.
I recently got 2pcs of Quanta Amaron Tubular Batteries 220ah each (Brand New).
These batteries are always charged full before the evening by my 2s1p solar array setup 560amps (parrallel) and 180amps x2 (series) array.
The issue is, i get a very low runtime on just my freezer. My freezer consumes 150 watts of energy. I was using it perfectly with my Fullriver 150ah batteries (2pcs approximately 300ah) before decommissioning last week.
What could possible be the problem of these batteries? Its a 12v setup and I am supposed to enjoy more runtime but no, its been terrible. My Fullriver worked even better than this Quanta Amaron.
Should I upgrade to a 24v setup?
Charge controller is POWMR MPPT. Serving me for more than 3 years.
Please help @bassdow @valto @trippledots
N/B this is my first time using tall tubular batteries and i am so disappointed. The average Runtime with 150 watts fridge is 3hrs and battery will drop to 12.3volts.
My lithium setup 100ah carries same fridge for over 3hrs. This 440ah setup cant even carry for 3hrs and its almost at 50% DOD.
I am disappointed . The post is somehow confusing. If you fullriver were working fine, why switch to quanta? Later you mentioned lithium too. Can we talk on phone? Shoot me a mail if you would prefer that. |

Pls I need guide from gurus in the house so I don't make a mistake.
I'm ready to do the installation this week if I'm convinced on the best solution.
Resident in Uyo Akwa Ibom State I think you need atleast 2kwp of solar to effectively carry your appliances and Keep the battery well charged. With the fridge included, make that minimum of 2.5kwp. A 1.5kva inverter is ok for your loads, if you won't run all at the same time always. 2 tubular batteries would do, but lithium batteries would serve you better at a significantly higher immediate cost. |
