Yes, Europe is your best bet... There lots of them in France under the brand of Renault.

EgunMogaji:
Okay, thanks.

I'm limiting to a 10 ton.

I want to get from Europe to save shipping (not touching Naija used with a ten-foot pole), is it form Europe?

That's a rear one to find here. Its a 1996 Mack Midliner 10Ton dump. Its was made when Mack merge with Renault in the 80's. The body is Mack and the Engine is Renault.

I want to vex alittle about Our people in Nigeria. I started this trucking business to empower my cousins that are jobless.

After two years of smooth operation, they decide they want to be the boss. I didn't bother myself, i went into arrangement for them to pay me savage on my truck and go their merry way.

We reach agreement on amount and it took them a year latter to pay 1/10th of the agreed price.

Now its been three year. There is a demolition in my area and i needed rubble for road grade. I have to get another truck on hire to done the job.

What hurt me most is that when i got a pic from my site manager from the supply site, guess what i saw loading ? My Own Very Truck working for other people!!! And me the owner has to hire outside truck to do my work.

This helping people is getting tiring for me oooo

After all is said and done, the Engineer will design to specification and intended use of the structure. The Exterior walls can be designed to carry the loads by itself and likewise, the interior walls can be design to bear loads as well. This is the difference between Baba Bricklayer designing your house and A Professional Engineer.

For those that wants to know what Engineering is in a short phrase; Its the design of anything to be SAFE, ECONOMICAL AND FUNCTIONAL. No one way fit all in engineering. Engineers use science and math to innovate and solve problem period!

abdulwastecx:
I dey here my big Oga.

The standard configuration of roof truss will look like the picture you posted above, where you have only two members, namely the strut ( members undergoing compression) and the tie (member undergoing tension on the the applied load.

These members forces are gotten through structural analysis of the load acting on the roof such as
Dead load
1. Load of roofing sheet, 2.load of the self weight of roofing truss, 3. Load from suspended ceilings or pop and 4. Load from Fittings such as plumbing and electrical.

Impose load (life load)
1. Load from rainfall
2. Load from snow (for Europe and north America
3. Wind load ( when the structures is high rise or places with high wind velocity.

After all these loads have been estimated, these load are basically applied through a simplified method through a node ( point where we have the purlin) and the analysis are carried out using manual method like joint method of truss analysis, or section method or using a specialized softwares.

The result from the structural analysis is used to size the timber truss members for the members in tension and compression by looking at standard stress of the timber and their sectional properties.

The load from these timber roof will act at the roof supports which are normally the external walls of the building.

In summary, a standard roof truss design and constructed following basic engineering principle will distribute load to the external walls but most of the wood truss we build here are not design to have a clear span between the two external walls of the building ,they are designed to have intermediate supports which are the internals walls, hence, they carry more load than the external walls

You are absolutely right Sir. By the way, you have been doing a fantastic job thus far. I like to see younger guys doing big things.

While your statement is true that the partition wall in the middle of the house carries load but it always depends on the SHAPE of the hip roof.

Tributary loads are majorly from your top ridge to your first joist /strut. So if the spacing of the tributary area is reduced, it in-turn reduces the force / load on your middle internal wall.

Its just to buttress your point and to add that your can reduce the load acting on your middle internal wall by design.

One thing i always do if client and budget permits is to put a beam / head course on my internal dividing wall so far as it doesn't impede ceiling design.[/quote]
PropertiesRe: Would This Property Scheme Work In Nigeria? by true2home(m): 7:19pm On Aug 29, 2017
Hi,

It will work if you are genuine. Low income people just need someone to help them a little and they will pick up from there. Its the greed of our leaders and elite that has prevented this kind of model from work till now. Goodluck

PropertiesRe: General Topic Thread-To Discuss Anything And Everything in Building Construction by true2home(m): 2:41pm On Aug 29, 2017
you are fine Sir. What most people does not know is that the exterior wall actually carry's less load that the partition wall in the building itself. The exterior walls usually carry's half the load that sits on it and in some cases, even a quarter of the load. The partition walls in the middle of the house carry direct loads from the roof squarely. Read up on Tributary Areas on columns for more details... Engineering!!!

bigrovar:
Hi guys. This is a bit of a long one:

So I have been away (hustling and stuff) and decided to build a low budget functional house for my family and stop the house rent which is becoming a drain. I decided to build on a 50 by 50 plot of land. A basic 2 bedroom bungalow.

I did very basic floor plan (see attached) to allow for enough space for rooms and a packing space which can take 2 cars. I used this tool http://www.sweethome3d.com/ for my floor plan.

Due to my busy schedule, I left the supervision with my brother since he had experience in construction. He hired the technicians and hands for the project while I provided money.

They took the project to lintel level when I came back to inspect it. Unfortunately I was very unhappy with what I saw. Here are my concerns

1) Against my instruction, my brother still went on to mix 9 inches with 6 inches for the outter walls. I told him to use 9 inches for the outter walls of the house all through and reserve the 6inches for the house. This was not done instead 9 inches blocks was used up to window level and 6 inches used to lintel level. I fear that this might affect the structural integrity of the house in future, since the house was designed not to have pillers and DPC was not used in the 3 course foundation.

2) I halted the roofing of the house because the carpenter recommended I use head course which is a casting done round the house 2 courses after the lintel. Is this really necessary?

My brother said the style of laying 6inch blocks on 9inch was fine since I wont be doing parapet and the soil was dry and good and " people do it alot without issues" but am not sold.

Is they any remedy to this before roofing? please gurus in the house. I would appreciate your take. I have attached pictures of the property in its current state.

lol...Reason I believe that if you are not leaving in Nigeria 100% of the time, please build a small house that you can clean yourself and enjoy your space...show off doesn't make sense in Nigeria. My one bedroom apartment is always clean and I have light 100% of the time because is very small that I can power cheaply with generator and invert with no problem. I can afford to pain it each time am about to visit Nigeria cheaply too because I have cut my Cloth accordingly to my Sense.

AngelicBeing:
True that, lack of proper and consistent maintenance culture is a big issue in Nigeria, it reminds me of my friend who is currently on vacation in Lagos, according to him, he is staying in a hotel somewhere around Lekki and pays over 40,000 a night, he said the bathroom is not clean and that he has to complain over and over for the management to keep the place clean, I laughed and told him, welcome to Nigeria sad

I laugh when reading this kind of article. she is right in her assessment, but Nigeria's problems are easy to numerate. The problem has always been that we never have Scholars that are interest in bring in solution from their travels, rather, criticism. I will like to know what she; being the first Nigerian MBA holder; has accomplished for the country of Nigeriahuh

Just like most that went abroad, most likely nothing but analysis. Patriotism is the problem of Nigeria... We need to love the country enough to sacrifice for its development. Leave your comfort zones and be a doer in Nigeria period.
FamilyRe: The Unspoken Words Of A House Girl by true2home(m): 1:40pm On Jul 11, 2017
Sorry for suggesting that your treated her unfairly. I guess you are one of the few that appreciated your help. And your analysis of her village market and encounter with her family explains why she will want to return to PHC. Remain cool and accept my apology.

shevon:
Lol... If only you know what I'm capable of. She's the least of all the problem my wife and I had.
When she says we don't give her work to do, she meant, unlike when we were in PHC (she's from Rivers by the way and ours was her first time outside her village in Elele), she does the house chores and also goes to the market too; I guess that afforded her time to meet her people. But since we moved (and this was her first time ever outside Rivers State) we didn't want any wahala till she got to know the 'Lagos' way, so we restricted her to only house chores of which when she was done cleaning the house (which includes the dishes like you'd want the world to believe I did for her) she has nothing else to do. My kids are grown and my wife hasn't gotten a job here in Lagos, so she (my wife) pretty much takes care of the kids.
So, don't be quick to pass comments about "people like you" when you don't really know them. smiley

shevon:
Na wah o. And our own help left with the excuse that since we moved from PHC to Lagos we have not been giving her as much work as we do in PHC, all she does all day is eat and sleep.

As I watched the War on Quotation rages, I just want to tell the house that there are people in Nigeria that are still good. I have a supervisor that works for me. He never collects any fee from me for his work. He recommend that I give him whatever I feels he deserves. O BOy, I believe I have over paid him so many time simply because he has exceeded my expectation so many times. And guess what? I Am Very Happy with him. I have recommended him to family members and he still working for them with the same MOTTO. and he is getting paid nicely.

Therefore, Do a good job, and the client will gladly reward you beyond your expectation. Happy Clients do not look at price for a job WELL DONE

This information is very important to such person as myself. It further buttress my focus on Entry Level Home hypothesis for Nigeria Housing industry. Thanks for sharing

diordaves:
Let's extrapolation from details and statistics contained in the article.

So Africa nay Nigeria has an army of restless youths in their 30s with below par purchasing power. When you build for investment rentals, what age demographic is your target market? If you dwell on this, you will understand why there's high rental default. We are designing and building houses for a demographic that can't afford them.

Africa, including Nigeria don't trade with one another. So we go to China, Turkey to buy doors for example. But do you know Egypt has top quality doors with competence in Egypt? Can we link that competence to Benin Edo State where the woodwork trade is dying out?

3D printing. Will this kill architecture? Civil engineering? Disruptive technology.

A 21yr old in South Africa has discovered blocks made out of waste paper and got funding. Is this the future or there's more?

I can go on and on.

So with obviously failing leadership, can the diaspora step in and step up? Can we bring back tools and machinery and technology and pass them on to our artisans and builders? Can the diaspora be the catalyst for Nigeria to plug into the next wave of wealth creation? Internet.

Congratulations for having CARING and BRAVE neighbors. Now here is my Question; Did the police come and check if all your guns are licensed? I once lived next to an Armed Robber and he was an informer for the underworld and Landlord as well.

AngelicBeing:
Yes , 12 guage may sometimes not be enough with the kind of robbers & vampires we currently have now in Nigeria, my friends house was attacked by robbers 2 years ago when l visited Nigeria on vacation, his house was a stone throw to mine, l was on medication because l had slight cough and was fast asleep, he opened his armory and started firing, he has about 9 Hausa guys he gave free accommodation to and they also serve as his night guard, they where all asleep but according to him, he heard strange movement and noise around his building and when he peeped from the first floor he saw bad boys taking positions, he said he didnt think twice before he started firing at different directions and the robbers all fled, it was his gun blast that woke his hausa guys, other building owners, before he came to my building to check on me, by then, l don co..ck the small hunters gun l had and nobody slept that night, other building owners brought their guns out, one of the building owners was a retired Naval Officer and he brought out his " ogbonigue gun " as well , we ended up patrolling the whole neighborhood till towards morning before we all retired to bed and those bastards never came again wink

If you are a Yoruba person or understand Yoruba language, I will say this: OLOWO LON KO ILE SI ORI OMI!!! its only the rich that can afford to build on water. This is so because they can afford to spend whatever to achieve their goal. They have sizable amount of money that they can use to finishing their building regardless of the troubles associated with watered areas

Teewhy2:
can Op or lalasticlala why is it that most water logged areas is always associated with good and beautiful houses and most times in that environment you have middle / upper class neighbors, take for example most of the water logged part of Lagos( Banana island, Lekki, Gbagada, V.I .e.t.c) also Land is always expensive
