benabbey:
Majority of those that call themselves Muslim in the north are fake.
It is a privilege that you have taken a census and
majority(?) of christians are genuine - actually living their lives according to the laws of christ?
benabbey:
Sharia is for the poor like Jangedi not for Yerima who stole them dry.
And in the South most of the governors who left office in 2007 and charged to court are in jail now?
If you drive past a red light, will you go scot free
and can you procure a court order to stop EFCC or police from arresting you?
Like Ibori just did
in the South where whatever law you are practising is for ALL?
benabbey:
Friend northern are blind leading blind men they are all destiny to perish
So you are now a seer, friend and brother?
Why is it that christians tell me that the bible preach love
and all I see in Nigeria are christians
foretelling and praying for destruction of non-christains
and commanding death by fire!
And I would consider this post mild since benabbey is a personal development coach

It doesn't matter if 100% of Christians want "Bible" to be the law, because "Bible" is not a law nor does it have any legal system, code or leaning, unlike the sharia system. There is no comparison between the Bible and sharia law, so I didn't see the need to mention it.

Use your head.
You know this is sophistry!
Because the question is what do the christians who want Bible to be the law want
Certainly those 71% do not seek to act in vain
They simply must have something in their minds
As you advise, let me try and use my head
For instance - an end to polygamy?
Perhaps we cannot keep our beard
Or as muslims were forced to do in the past:
Convert to christianity, otherwise you will not go to school
And are still doing insiduously
Oh, muslim ladies cannot cover themselves up in those "annoying and dowdy overalls"
while nuns will be given special exemption

And besides, Latter Rain Asembly (forget the Save Nigeria ruse) has told us they want Nigeria to be governed by law of Christ

"We are a new society of persons unconditionally committed to the Lordship of Jesus Christ in every aspect of life and whatever it takes, we seek to exchange the values of the surrounding society and the world at large with the standards of God's Kingdom".

http://www.latterrainassembly.org/aboutus.html

Mind you, if a Muslim should dare say "whatever it takes", people would start screaming "Jihadists, extremists etc"
But here it is in black and white!

You also believe that he is the God of the bible since you tied his name to the OLD Testament even though he was revealed in New Testament in physical form.

@Airdig et al
As Muslims, we should never, ever say anything negative about Jesus Christ (Prophet Isa)
That is against the sunnah of our religion
Please you are walking on thin ice here
What would be the benefit of this argument?
Win a pointless argument against Frosbel?
And commit a grievous sin in the process?
That would be a pyrrhic victory if you could even pull it off given the way he would use circular arguments
As a Christian, he has no qualms about denigrating eveything Islam holds dear
He should go and confront a jew
Who would not have any qualms about insulting everything holy in christianity

Remember as muslims, we cannot even abuse their religious leaders
let alone the Prophet Isa

Flee from the sin he is luring you into

Please allow him to amuse himself to his heart content
Afterall atheists do so everyday
There is a reward for all action

SportsRe: Calling Lionel Messi The Greatest Player In The World Must Stop! - Pele by truly: 7:19pm On Apr 14, 2010
smile4kenn:
No doubt. Messi is the best player of all time. Having grown up watching the likes of zidane, admittedly I was never lucky enough to see Maradona or Pele in their prime and whilst i am aware of their amazing goal scoring records and achievements, messi is only 22 and I'd say he's the greatest to ever play the game. We will know more in 2-5 years time but i know now, Messi is the best!!!
Too early to judge.
Pele went to his first world cup at 17
He was crucial to the team's success in that compeition Sweden 1958)
Kratos007:
Maradona NEVER won a world cup single handedly. In the mexico 86 final, the winning goal was scored by burruchaga. And it is debatable if pele was greater than maradona. Afterall, Maradona seems to top most of the polls between the two. The official FIFA poll has it as a tie between the two of them.
someone mentioned messi as not being as good as johan cryuff. Matey are you having a laugh. Even the great man himself admits that he can only dream about being able to do what messi does now. Typical blinkered fans, with none of you ever having watched a pele game live. is it those cheesy old school betamax videos of muscled men in tight shorts you want to use to judge? What was Maradona doing at Messi's age? Getting sent off in the world cup?
Please watch the semi final against Belgium at Mexico 86
I even would have scored playing beside Maradona on that ocassion
The man was providing unbelievable chances
The Argentine team in 86 was called Maradona and 10 men
Batistuta (you may recall that he scored against Nigeria in 2002) who eventually became a legend with Fiorentina wa sin th 86 team
Nobody new him then
Eastbay:
Ibime,
Stop being unnecessarily diversionary.
Fact remains Pele won three world cups.In 62,He was injured, but in 1970,he was the teams driving force.Watch ESPN's Classic world cup players and you'll see the outrageous goal attempts he made against Czechoslovakia and Uruguay.Things nobody at the time even dreamt of doing.
Let Messi win one,and then the arguments can begin. He's not regarded as the best  ever even in his native Argentina. The fact that he's the best in the world at this moment is not enough to call him the greatest ever.
Club football is not suffiecient in itself to crown a player the best in the world.
Thanks for the information
Actually Pele was injured in 1966 not in 1962
and that was the only world cup he participated in and did not win
He played all through in 58, 62 and 70
LAFOCUZY:
I don't think pele was envious by his comments. If pele scored 1000 goals in his days. Chances are that he may have scored more today. Football has improved significantly. Training session involves simulations and all sorts. Pele didn't have access to all these, no big money involved. These, all things being equal would have enhanced his performance. He shears the same calm and humble personnality as Messi. He also commended messi.

People are different in their own ways.
If you have been following Pele's comments on this matter
He has said neither Maradona nor him is the best player ever
He gave that honour to one Argentine (later Spaniard), Alfredo Di Stefano, who played in the 1940s - 50s

@igbo boy
I dont know why people put the Pope on a pedestal, For all I know I cant vouch for him that he hasnt touched any boy back in his earlier days, He was a secret Nazi sympathizer,

Priests, Imams, pastors or what not are human beings like us for christ sake, Dem dey shiiiit like us, dey drink water and dey get feelings (abi body na fire wood?)

Well being in the free world people cna criticisze him, (this is not an islamic republic where when u criticize one holy man or prophet then they issue fatwa on your head)/.//he should take it like a man,

It is necessary to have the facts
Fatawa is religious ruling
It can be on any matter - can I go for pilgrimage before age of maturity? is suicide permitted in Islam etc?
However, you don't get any special attention for abusing a so-called holy man eg the Grand Mufti (holder of the highest religious law office and who issues fatawas)
However, it is a sin to abuse the Prophet (peace be upon him)
Now there is no need for any new fatawa on that
This is similar to the position in England until 2008
Where there was a law against blasphemy (which only recognised offence against christainty only)
Yes, blasphemy is an offence in Islam but that is restricted to abuse of the religion, the Prophets and Allah
If you abuse any other person, it is not the subject of a fatawa

Now Islam discourages the abuse of all religious leaders - christian, hindu, etc

Who determines which is the true church?
And the true church is nobody's enemy?
What about militant christianity?
Or what do you call the crusades (open war) instigated by the pope?
Why is a thread on the pope now turned to castigation of Islam
Defend the actions of the pope and leave Islam alone for once
And if you need to criticise Islam, create the thread and bring the evidence
By the way, you must be able to prove that the guilty Islamic leader's status is similar to the pope's and his action is condoned by Islam

Yes, it's what the country degenerated to, even worse to say the least. Don’t pretend Iwu is the problem; Obasanjo contracted Iwu to do his bidding of rigging 2003 + beyond elections. Iwu had to read from his script or pay with his life; he chose the former which is normal in Nigeria setting. Nigeria as a country has to respond to the fundamental questions of its existence as corporate entity, that done, then we can talk about credible election. Enough of window dressing and shadow chase; Iwu is not the problem and he proved that at recent gubernatorial election in Anambra State. Bring in an angel and Obasanjo seating presently most close to power will dictate his or her conducts. They own Nigeria.
Iwu is part of the problem. NO doubt about it
It was not a matter of being part of a cult that one could not leave
When he was approached, he could have said no to the appointment

I have said it and we all remember
A judge handling the trial of Bola Ige's murder suspects withdrew from the case
He said he was getting pressure from unexpected quarters

How can I then believe that NOBODY is better

Anambra was a trick to lull the opposition to sleep
And right now, people are falling into the trap
I have said it is not incompetence, but unwillingness

They don't own Nigeria!
At least Obj
I hate the man so much, I would rather die
than kow tow to his satanic machinations
I am serious
Sincerely, I would look towards death with bliss than to rig an election in favour of Obj

They own Nigeria because we allow them
Humphrey Nwosu in 1993 showed us possibilities
It is a matter of being ready to take off when possible

But Iwu in 2007 was busy praising PDP for planning and campaiging well
and now Hiring touts to demonstrate for his retention

In 2007, the commissioners in Edo and Ondo States refused to announce fake results
Both results were then announced in Abuja
The guy in Ondo state initially disocciated himself from the result

If we have these brave men here and there speaking up

We vote parties in Nigeria. When Atiku leaves PDP he should loose his seat. That is the Judgement the Supreme Court should come to.
You are right that is the law
But Atiku was virtually forced out of the party
They said people should re-register
then before he got his card they wanted to hold their primaries
and that was close to INEC's deadline
If he remained in PDP, he would not be able to contest with another party
When he resigned, Obj wanted him stripped of immunity
And was waiting to pounce on him

Both Obj and Atiku were guilty

Please don't count the Judgement for Atiku in 2007 as a Judicial achievement. That Judgement was faulty and the fact that it was populist and against the will of the sitting President does not make it right.

At the heart of that Judgement is the question of whether we elect parties or individuals. If we elect parties then if Atiku leaves the PDP then he simply forfeits his Vice Presidency, it is that simple. But if we elect individuals then the Judgement is correct.

But based on that Judgement the Supreme Court seemed to suggest we elect individuals. But the same Supreme Court awarded Amaechi in Amaechi vs Omehia the Guber seat without Amaechi standing for elections. This Judgement would have been sound if they are saying what we vote are parties hence whoever is the PDP leader automatically becomes the Governor. So you can see the inconsistencies in these Judgements by the Supreme Court. They seem to be making these things up and Judgements are not right merely because they go against the will of the seating leader.

The Atiku victory and Amaechi victory should not co-exist because they are diametrically opposite.

On the Iwu issue I don't think anybody is suggesting that nobody is more honest or has more integrity than Maurice Iwu. What I think folks are saying is that the election is around the corner and time is too short for any new INEC Chairman prepare effectively for 2011.
What in my view we need is to appoint these strong personalities into INEC as Electoral Commissioners. I think we need 13, at the moment we only have 4.

This body of ECs have the capacity to influence the decision of INEC Chairman no matter who they are.
The Atiku issue has several dimensions.
How many people have left other parties and joined PDP
were there seats declared vacant?
So Obj wanted to hound the man out of PDP and then use that as an excuse to impeach him
This does not make sense to me
And those guys have been talking about judicial activisim - thank God, we use common law

How can a group of people appointed by Obj just indict Atiku and he becomes ineligible to contest an election
The Supreme court said, indict if you will, but a court must ratify it - one cannot fault this

Don't imagine that I trust Atiku - I don't - he is a PDP man
He just  used AC for temporary shelter

The Amaechi case needs understanding - read Justice Oguntade explanation of the supreme court's reasoning
The guys wanted to keep the man out of the race
They recruited the appeal court to help them or so it seems
The appeal court kept saying it did not have jurisdiction and the supreme court kept reassuring it it did
They were just trying to buy time so that after the election
Amaechi would not have any redress

The supreme court asked "how can a court have jurisdiction at the commencement of a suit and midway lose it?"
The appeal court refused to give judgement on Amaechi's case with the intention of declaring "no jurisdiction"after the election
If the appeal court had acted on time, the matter would have been decided well before the day of the election

This is another legacy of Obj

On Iwu
Time is not short unless he has been idle
I prefer a SINCERE NOVICE to a committed evil doer any day
After the election of 2011, we are going to live with the effect for 4 (2nd termers) or 8 years
Some cases are still in court from 2007 - Ekiti, Imo, Sokoto? and Osun for example

The IT department of your school can give us a credible voters register in 4 months
Iwu cannot in 10 lifetimes!
Not out of incomptence
But out of unwillingness

His annulment of the June 12 election was an action in the right direction which was approved by a competent court of law.
I don't think what you are saying is correct
People went to court to stop the announcement of results
Other people went to court insisting that the results should be announced
2 courts of similar jurisdiction gave conflicting judgements - 1 in favour of announcements and the other against
Prof Humphrey Nwosu (then INEC chairman) went to the Appeal Court in Kaduna to seek clarification of the position and
appended the INEC official result to the documents filed before the court

IBB then stepped in and ANNULLED the result
No court could do anything after this!

By the way, IBB has admitted that the annulment is an error

When a judge that was handling the trial of Bola Ige's murderers got fed up
He withdrew and said publicly that he was getting pressure from unexpected quarters

As to quitting, why not
If he does not quit, how can I believe that he is not enjoying the job?
As regards transfer of power from Obj to Yaradua
Obj supervised the transfer of power to his appointed successor
How can that compare to the transfer of power (in Ghana) from Rawling's party to Kuffour's party and back to Rawling's party in Ghana

By the way, Iwu is the only examination candidate that insists on grading his own test
Inspite of the clear ability of his assessors (the Nigerian electorate) to do so

All over the world, scientists demonstrate by force of logic, that their critics are unreasonable
But Iwu prefers to call his critics his names - idiots, insane etc
That, in my opinion, is due to absence of superior argument

A fairly-resourced computer department in a Nigerian university can produce a credible voters register
I am not talking about exclusion of Tiger Wood, Mike Tyson
But ensuring that the names of those Nigerians who registered appear on the register
Iwu has not been able to produce one

@Afam
Electoral rigging is a long-chain process
It does not start at the polling station
It starts with voters registration
You cannot vote without a card
So only those "annointed" get to vote
and you can even get CNN to beam live the counting and announcement, the ded had been done
The views of Nigerians abroad do matter really
Olusegun Aganga, Ngozi Ezekwesili and Bayo Ogunlesi are some of them who made and continu eto make contributions

Big B1:
Points:
The next president must come from the north, the entire north supports IBB, USA and UK have also shown their indirect support, the entire big wigs in the country support IBB and I also support IBB.
I don't believe the entire north supports IBB. You need to bring proof
UK and US supporting a candidate is reason for him to rule the Federal REPUBLIC of Nigeria
Is this not an endorsement of colonialism
Won't his loyalty start from abroad?
If only the foreigners and bigwigs (as you call them) support IBB?
What about us - the majority - the small wigs?
Do you really see that as respect for democracy
Is this our country? Do we count with your man?
Big B1:
If you take a good look at our political structure in this country, our people and the country as a nation, you will realize that our problems in Nigeria are very simple to identify and solving them is also easy as long as we elect an individual with experience, wealth and has a lot to lose if things aren't done correctly.
I think this is the best time for us, Nigeria to get the best of IBB.
It is clearly obvious that he's smart, his ideas are incredible, he has the support of the back bones of this nation, he has the complete respect of every single politician in this country, he clearly knows how to pick the best team and get things done effectively/ efficiently.

It is a matter of time,IBB will recapture this nation. And things will be done correctly this time around.

Nigeria will be back at the top soon.
So how come IBB, for all of 8 years, did not identify these simple and easy-to-solve problems
Note that IBB annuled an election
To atone for that he eventually brought Obj
Obj handed over to an unfit Yaradua in a do-or-die fashion
Can we then not trace our present situation to IBB

Why is this the best time for IBB?
When things have changed dramatically and he cannot dissolve the NSDC and rule unilaterally
Recapture - by a coup? through a godfather?
How?
Why did he not reform the electoral system to make it possible for the votes of Nigerian to count
You may support the guy, but he is far from being appropriate
And again, how old is he?
How current are his views, ideas and reflexes

So much Drama, he has not even made up his mind! grin grin grin grin grin grin
He has not? You believe that!If IBB declares publicly that he is consulting, that is enough for me. That mind is FULLY MADE up. He is just hedging his bets to ensure that no unforseen event arises to cause him any disgrace.

@ post.
Also THISDAY is just an appendage to plant stories to favor the rapacious 9ja elite.
NO WAY.
The story is in BUSINESSDay!
kosovo:
All IBB  needs, is just to declare his candidacy and he has WON . . we can then experience True democracy and Federalism, at least for once . .
Hope i have answered your question @ Fhemmmy
Kosovo, we know that you don't support IBB
But we also know that IBB is serious
and it is not wise underrating him
The man is wily!

The worst that can ever happen in 2011 is for Nigerians to vote IBB as president, that will simply mean that Nigerians have very short memories, is it he killings, June 12, Dele Giwa, 419 and all the evils perpetrated that the we want to experience againhuhhuh??. If IBB must rule Nigeria again please let us Un Lugard first then he can rule.
Let us be face it. That is not the worst that can happen.
Suppose we end up with somebody far more ruthless than IBB but not as smart.
Imagine an Abacha reincarnate.
Mind you, I hate IBB so much that I heaved a sigh of relief when PDP swept him aside in 2007.
I calculated that whoever got it in 2007 was likely to run till 2015.
IBB would be about 73 or 74? and then it will be the turn of the South
You can now see what harm Obj has done to my permutation

But seriously, IBB is a threat given the tacit support of Americans he enjoys

That is why my no 1 priority is electoral reform
Let Nigerians be able to elect, harass, impeach etc whoever they want
I don't want somebody to be consulting with known enemies
while ignoring majority of Nigerians
secure in the knowledge that these king makers will always deliver
I am a free born citizen of Nigeria
Why should I not have a say in who governs me

What a sacrilege.
Whenever people insult our Prophet and we protest, we are accused of intolerance. So we are not the only one! As every muslim who really understands our religion knows, it is wrong to denigrate religious figures. Let us take heed!

@Truly, you missed the bus.  Read the freaking thread for crying out loud. grin
I actually read the thread
For the most part, people concentrated on orcas
and debated the their predatory nature - do they kill on purpose, for food or accidentally etc
Fact remains nobody wants to lose his/her life to them
I mentioned the bit about Dolphin
in case people forget that they can also be dangerous
inspite of the highly positive PR they enjoy

And just incase you still believe I am picking on you, I apologise
