Christianity Etc › Re: God Says, "You Shall Not Kill," But He Kills. Why Does He Contradict Himself? by TruthinAction: 4:52am On Jun 28, 2019
hoasis:
In Exodus 20:13 it says, "Thou shalt not kill," yet God kills people in floods, famines, and has Israel go and kill entire people groups. Why the contradiction?

First of all, there is no contradiction. "Thou shalt not kill" is from the old King James Bible. Modern translations (ESV, NASB, NCV, NIV, NKJV, NLT, NRSV) have it as "You shall not murder." The word in the Hebrew for "kill" here in Exodus 20:13 is תִּרְצָח (ratsach). It is translated into the English many different ways, depending on the context: "slayer 16, murderer 14, kill 5, murder 3, slain 3, manslayer 2, killing 1, slayer + 310 1, slayeth 1, death 1." 1

Murder is the unlawful taking of life. Killing is the lawful taking of life. God has said, "You shall not murder," not "You shall not kill." After all, God says killing in self-defense is justifiable. Exodus 22:2, "If the thief is caught while breaking in, and is struck so that he dies, there will be no bloodguiltiness on his account." If mere killing of any kind was the issue, then why would God saying killing in self-defense is permissible? He wouldn't. This is another reason that modern translations say, "You shall not murder."

Also, consider that the New Testament quotes Exodus 20:13 in Rom. 13:9 as "You shall not murder." The word in Greek for murder here is φονεύω, (phoneuo). Matt. 10:28 says, "“And do not fear those who kill the body, but are unable to kill the soul; but rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell." The word of kill here is apoktinumi. Let's compare.

Rom. 13:9, "murder" is φονεύω (phoneuō), commit murder, kill (Mt 5:21; 19:18; 23:31, 35; Mk 10:19; Lk 18:20; Ro 13:9; Jas 2:11; 4:2; 5:6) 2
Matt. 10:28, "kill" is ἀποκτίννυμι (apoktinumi), to kill, slay 3
As you can see, different words are used for "murder" and "kill." The Greek is more specific, and since the Greek New Testament quotes the Hebrew Old Testament, we can see that Exodus 20:13 is best translated as "You shall not murder."

One final comment: since all people have sinned against God (Rom. 3:23) all people are under the judgment of God. The wages of sin is death (Rom. 6:23), so when God executes someone it is not murder, it is killing because it is a lawful taking of life. Remember, all people have sinned. Sin is the breaking of God's law. Therefore, God's execution is lawful.

He is using the herdsmen. Boko Haram is being used to destroy the armies from the south. The herdsmen attacks, no arrest has ever been made but try a reprisal attack, army will show up. Now they are trying to deprive individuals from owing licensed guns so when they attack, we will all be completely defenseless. But God will defeat their evil plots in Jesus name.

Politics › Re: Kidnapping: Buhari, APC Have No Concern For Nigerians – PDP by TruthinAction: 9:56pm On Jun 26, 2019
JosEast:
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has said the “reckless dismissal” of the alarming spate of kidnapping in the country by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo further confirmed that the All Progressives Congress (APC) administration has no iota of concern towards the pain and suffering of Nigerians.

The opposition party in a statement on Wednesday by its National Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan, said by attempting to play down on the menace as not being “as massive as that”, Prof. Osinbajo demonstrated that the APC-led government are not connected with the people but only pretends towards them during electioneering.

“In dismissing the security problem, the Vice President is simply telling victims of kidnapping that as far as the APC and its administration are concerned, they have not suffered enough. “The PDP says that such anti-people disposition, as being witnessed under the APC, can only come from an uncaring and insensitive administration that does not have the mandate of the people.

“It is therefore unfortunate that instead of being remorseful and seeking solutions, Prof. Osinbajo is rather playing on the sensibility of Nigerians by attempting to justify his comment, which has been widely condemned by citizens from all walks of life. “Prof. Osinbajo has only succeeded in showcasing President Buhari’s incompetence and failure in securing the nation. “He has also ridiculed his office in the eye of the international community, who is well aware of the gravity of kidnapping and other security challenges confronting our nation.

“What has Prof. Osinbajo said to the families whose breadwinners have been killed by kidnappers and many more who are still languishing in kidnappers’ den? “When will the problem of kidnapping become “massive” for the APC administration when medical doctors, community heads, faith-based leaders, government officials and their relations, students, innocent school children, pregnant women and even expatriates are being kidnapped in various parts of the country? “While our party and indeed millions of Nigerians appreciate the efforts by our security operatives in fighting this menace, despite the operational challenges imposed on them by the incompetent APC administration, the PDP insists that President Buhari must bear the blame for the persistence of the security problems,” the PDP said.

From the matches I've watched so far, Coach Rohr has been overrated. Football is not just about winning, we want to watch good football like the USA 94 team and the Olympic 96 team. I think we have great young talented footballers we have been looking for a while. I thought I will never see another Jay Jay until I saw Samuel Chukwueze. Samuel Kalu is also very good. Don't tell me he is winning. His team selection is poor and he makes changes too late and sometimes the wrong one & wrong placement.

Politics › Re: Insecurity: Osinbajo Urges Nigerians To Be Wary Of Social Media Reports by TruthinAction: 7:41pm On Jun 24, 2019
Dorischuks:
Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has urged Nigerians in the Diaspora not to rely entirely on social media reports on the security challenges facing the country.

Speaking at a townhall meeting in New York on Sunday evening, Osinbajo said the social media “tends to be hysterical about practically everything”.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the vice president spoke in response to several questions and comments on the security situation back home.

Many members of the audience had taken turns to express concern about the reported spate of killings and kidnapping back home, and wanted to know what the government is doing to address the situation.

He said, “With respect to general kidnapping which we have seen in parts of the country, again, this is not entirely new.

“In fact, some of the kidnapping stories you read or listen to are simply not true anywhere, some are fuelled by politics.

“There are cases of kidnapping, no question at all about that, but some of the more dramatic stories that you hear are simply not true.

“Every report of kidnapping we receive, we try to verify, and at the end of the day you find out that people just tell all sorts of stories,” he said.

The vice president said the Federal Government was working with the states to check kidnapping where it was actually taking place, using technology to track the perpetrators.

He said the efforts were already yielding results with several arrests made by security agencies in affected areas.

Osinbajo said the government was capable of addressing the security challenges, assuring Nigerians that the news “will be a lot better very soon”.

Turning to banditry and farmers/herders clashes in the north west and central, the vice president described them as “resource conflicts”.

According to him, banditry especially in Zamfara and Katsina was more of a fight over the control of mining sites by armed groups.

He said the government was taking several measures, including shutting down the mines, to address the problem.

“In the north central, we have the livestock transformation plan to address the farmers/herders conflict.

“Ultimately, it is ranching that will solve the problem because you cannot have people wandering across the the country with their cattle.

“It is not helpful to them, this they know, because ranching is more convenient and profitable.

“So, we are building herd dams in the northern states so that people don’t necessarily come down south in search for water and green pastures for their herds.

“We are also trying to ensure we provide grazing areas before we come to cattle routes,” he added.

Osinbajo said in fairness to herders, the livestock sector had not enjoyed the kind of government’s funding and support accorded farmers over the years.

He stated that there was also need for government’s intervention in livestock, and solicited private sector support and investment in that area.(NAN)

Politics › Re: Southeast Governors Reject Macban’s Demand For Vigilance Group by TruthinAction: 7:37pm On Jun 24, 2019
Juliusmalema:
The South East Governors Forum have rejected the demand by the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association (MACBAN) for the establishment of a vigilante group in the southeast to protect their members.

MACBAN made the proposal during the Southeast Security Summit in Enugu last week.

The summit was convened by the Southeast Governors’ Forum to profer solution to lingering clashes between herders and farmer in the region.

The clashes have led to killings and destruction of farmlands.

Since the report of MACBAN’s demands last week, harsh reactions have been directed at the governors by various interest groups in the zone.

Many more condemnations were also directed at the governor’s on social media with many alleging that the governors were in agreement with MACBAN on the issue.

But the governors on Monday denied ever being ready to allow such suggestions come to fruition.

The Chairman of the Forum and Governor of Ebonyi State, David Umahi stated this in a statement in Abakaliki

The statement was released by his Chief Press Secretary, Emmanuel Uzor.

Mr Umahi described the allegation of the Governors allowing MACBAN to form vigilance group as strange.

“I find it extremely strange for anybody to think that none locals in any part of the country including South East could be allowed to form vigilante outfit”.

” The Miyetti Allah group may have made that suggestion which I believe will never mean to form a vigilante in South East Whichever is the meaning, no Governor will allow that”

“South East Governors have their local vigilantes working with security agencies. Any such demand by Miyetti group is a joke and not acceptable. Governors of South East are doing their best and we have no problems receiving insults from our people. It is the price for leadership.

“The important thing to us is the safety and well-being of our people. Opc and other pressure groups may not have found it fashionable to be insulting their leaders even when their leaders may not be saints”, the governor said.

Governor Umahi further disclosed that his task is to develop Ebonyi State, contribute in rebuilding South East and Nigeria.

“My calling is not to insult others for me to do these . Have we been fairly treated? No. Can we solve the problem by hate speeches? For me no. Nobody no matter the level of pretence can change my style of peaceful leadership. Ebonyi, in particular, has suffered so much even in the context of South East. We believe that we do not need hate speeches as a strategy to solve our problems”

“Finally, no Miyetti vigilante in South East, no cattle ranch or colony but we must live peacefully with herdsmen that do not destroy our farmland especially those that were born here and have lived peacefully with us. All South East governors are together in this position”, the governor said. Ends
