@backslider, They will not give you answers because they themselves have no answers to give. They don't want to give u any explanations because their explanations will fall flat. Their explanations will fall flat because they have no proper biblical basis. Spirit of the word indeed! Donnie and fyneguy, give him and others the benefit of the doubt and explain ur understandings of the questions posed. Forget about their being able to grasp the meaning or not. |
Deuteronomy 16:16 was specific in the sense that a feast was involved. So one knows that the stuff expected to be brought to a feast is specifically stuff to aid the feast and that is food/drink. 2 Corinthians 9:7 was not specific in what could be given as it related it to helping others in need. Anything can be given to help people in need such as those examples I gave including finances. that's basically the difference between the two verses. |
donnie:You obviously have no clue what 2 Corinthians 3:6 is talking about. Read the whole of 2 Corinthians 3 to get what verse 6 is really communicating. It certainly is not promoting the stuff u portrayed above. Spirit of the word indeed, ![]() |
However, the apostle Paul was quite clearly alluding to this same verse 17 when he wrote about Christian (financial) giving in the NT - 'Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give' (2 Cor. 9:7).I don't think that it is right to assume that the giving here is just about financial giving. It could also be other material stuff like food, clothing, medical supplies, etc. They all could make up a bounty to be given to people. Restricting it to finances(like some bible translations do)is pretty myopic in my opinion. |

I'm sure most of the current crop of teachers/church leaders today conveniently/knowingly skip these parts of the bible. These things are so clear to understand and follow that one keeps wondering about the extent to which some people have been deceived/blinded. * sighs * |
It is very clear that Jesus consumed alcohol through drinking wine. The bible never for once condemned the consumption of alcohol but only condemned it's abuse(excessive intake leading to drunkeness). Wine contains more alcohol than beer. People tend to frown at beer mostly because of what they see with people who consume it(abusers/drunkards). The cultural disposition of people towards alcohol/beer/wine consumption is what makes people to say things the bible never said about alcohol. Have I drank beer before? Only once. I drank a can of star part way and threw the rest away. Why did i throw it away? I hate the taste and the smell it leaves in the mouth. That is all that puts me off beer. Have I drank wine before? A few times when occassions demanded but never more than half a glass. Why never more than half a glass? The taste does not go well with me and I always find it to taste and seem like some cough syrups which I detest .That is all that put's me off wines, and not some lie that the bible did not tell. |

The miracles were mid-blowing. Wheel chairs & clutches flew in the air as those they once carried were healed. While some people got "healed" some others obviously got injured from the decending wheel chairs and crutches. ![]() |
KunleOshob:I meant nemesis as described by the examples I gave of super heroes and their nemesis. Nemesis in the sense that; you just can't shut them down no matter what you do(in this case say/reason). Super man always stood for justice;Lex Luthor knew this stand would impede his plans and actions, so he always tried to find a way to undermine or get rid of Super man;thus, becoming his nemesis. Same thing with Batman and the Joker. Anywhere you go to stand for the truth of God's word, JJYOU is there to do what he does ![]() Nemesis: an opponent or rival whom a person cannot best or overcome.(dictionary.com) |
JJYOU:JJYOU, You are fast becoming Kunle's Nemesis ![]() Just like in the case of Batman whose nemesis was the Joker; And Super man, whose nemesis was Lex Luthor ![]() |
You don talk am before, and I don quote am again: . . . without being sarcastic/cunningly slanderous/mischieviously provocating . . . Thank you sir, for not reporting me!
So you do not think that it's pretty too much for a new comer to start up with such heavy language?Don't u think it's bad that the new comer has imbibed the bad habits popular in NL? And such a person should not be chided? ![]() I'm definitely going to tell mummy for you; no holding back this time. ![]() |
tbaby4purpose2009:Kai! See post. Only 3 posts into NL and see what is being spewed. ![]() |
JJYOU:Being sarcastic towards him does not help matters. I'm not defending Kunle; rather I'm simply trying to point out some things which u might be misconstruing about him or his posts. Plus u know he never claimed to be the only one doing things right; that would be wrong interpretation of what he has been putting across. Why don't we just say what we want to say about issues without being sarcastic/cunningly slanderous/mischieviously provocating towards others?! ![]() |
Meeeen! This is too long for anyone to sit and read on NL. You should just have posted a bit and then add the link for further reading. |
Ok now. ![]() ![]() |
Pilgrim, Pilgrim, u have started being naughty once again ![]()
Really? Sample: 'To cut the long story short i have come to the realization with a renewed conviction that there is no church i am aware of today that is doing the will of our lord Jesus christ and the churches we have today are a marked departure from the churches founded by the apostles.' [here]
He is simply refering to the churches he is aware of and not all churches. ![]() I thought u used to say something about generalising. Are u now allowing the generalization to determine ur response? We agree the right thing has to be done; but if your own "church" was the focus of the 'right thing' we seek to correct, I'm sure you'd still be pleading for 'objectively' reading issues. What is wrong is wrong - end of story.Let's not conclude on things that haven't happened yet. Let's deal with what is currently on at the moment. ![]() |
JJYOU:@JJYOU; You know that there is a difference between bashing or 'bad-mouthing' the church and then speaking against the errors committed by some members of the church. If you really go through Kunle's posts and articles objectively, you'll notice that he is doing the latter and not the former. His methods or approach might be crude, but his intent is well placed/right. Try to view his posts objectively rather than have a preconcieved notion about him; cos I've noticed that most of ur responses to him or his posts are based on a conception you have of him and not objective. We can't all say we're not guilty in some way or the other in some issues that we accuse or label others of; even you. But the right thing always has to be done. ![]() |
And I want to use this opportunity to reach out again to anyone out there who by God’s grace, is tired of delusion out there in the name of God and his Christ, anyone who’s looking for a place to fellowship with believers, who by God’s grace (and not because we’re more intelligent than anybody else) are earnestly contending for the faith handed down by the Lord Jesus and his apostles, which is well preserved for us today in the scriptures, I invite you to join us in our “church”. Interestingly, we’ll be starting (tomorrow the 14th of June 2009) a very juicy series on the validity of the bible, we’ll be taking a look at the council of Nicaea and related issues. Please contact me. My name is Peter, and my email address is petres_007@yahoo.com God bless!
Aha! I guessed right. That's the Church I fellowship with when I'm available. I got a text earlier today as regards the series to be started tomorrow. Hi Peter. ![]() Sadly, I won't be available tomorrow; - work related issues ![]() |
What you should do is try to find the correlation or try to find a balance between what Luke 22:35-38 says and what Matthew 26:52 says and not wonder if they contradict thmselves. Afterall, it is the same person that spoke in the two different portions. This article might help(Note: I said "might" help.I'm not expecting it to totally convince u or any other person): Resisting evil, self defence and war |
What Kunle is doing is perfectly normal; I do not see why some people can't see beyond what they feel is right in their own highly esteemed opinions. Using myself for example, I also discovered that the pentecostal movement in which I belonged to before was on the wrong path and had deviated in so many ways from what the bible taught. So what did I do? I simply pulled out from them and very soon joined a very small group of Christians who I believe are conforming as best as possible on a daily basis to the rightly divided word of God in the bible. From the description petre_007 gave, I have an inkling or suspicsion that the group of Christians he's referring to might be those whom I fellowship with once in a while; I can't be sure but they do match the profile. So, from my outside position, I have tried in so many ways to get in touch with people who are still within the misled path that I once was in, so as to enable them to see the errors in their ways. Now, some people say leaving the 'church' or 'churches' which seem to be wrong is not the best thing but remaining with them and trying to correct the faults from within. That sounds good, but it is also risky in the sense that , the more you keep hearing the wrong stuff, the more you get pulled into it. So it's best one pulls out and be associated with those who spread/preach/teach the right stuff cos Iron sharpeneth Iron. The Bible says in Revelations 18 - Rev 18:3-5 (3) For all nations have drunk of the wine of the wrath of her fornication, and the kings of the earth have committed fornication with her, and the merchants of the earth are waxed rich through the abundance of her delicacies. (4) And I heard another voice from heaven, saying, Come out of her, my people, that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues. (5) For her sins have reached unto heaven, and God hath remembered her iniquities. It's pretty obvious from the above that God's people are encouraged to come out from within the religious groups/settings/denominations/practices that are not in line with God so as not to be partakers of their wrong. |
Luk 22:35-38 (35) And he said unto them, When I sent you without purse, and scrip, and shoes, lacked ye any thing? And they said, Nothing. (36) Then said he unto them, But now, he that hath a purse, let him take it, and likewise his scrip: and he that hath no sword, let him sell his garment, and buy one.(37) For I say unto you, that this that is written must yet be accomplished in me, And he was reckoned among the transgressors: for the things concerning me have an end. (38) And they said, Lord, behold, here are two swords. And he said unto them, It is enough. |
KunleOshob:1Timothy 3:16 (16) And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory. |
KunleOshob:No, I'm not saying that. What I'm saying is this: Once we have made sure we have brought to table all the points to support our beliefs or convictions, we should sit back and allow other reasonable Christians to go through and make their own decisions; no mater what the opposing group might say. We should trust that others have brains and can use them as long as the proper info has been provided. It is only when a whole new angle to the argument is brought up that we can attempt to address it. ![]() |
You know, the best thing would be for some of us to let go; no matter what any body says and no matter how it affects us. Let go and breath easy is what some of us have to do here. |
And I get disappointed everytime I read from this Thread. pilgrim.1 , much as I respect ur methods of debating, I really feel that u are pushing this issue down a deep end. Some unnecessary stuff just keep coming up when u reply people. In as much as u've stated ur points over and over again, there is no way everyone can agree with you. You often tell Kunle that he keeps repeating the same argument over and over again - It also seems u too are doing the same. You often say anti tithers genralise a lot and this would confuse others. I believe people are not daft or stupid enough to generalise when someone says "pastors are thieves". Because we all know that the statement that "Nigerians are scammers" does not include all Nigerians. People know where to draw the limits in such statements. You've made ur point, others have made theirs, so why don't we leave it at that , rather than come here all the time to show power tussles in knowledge about varying issues. Let's leave this tithe issue with the glaring fact that a lot of tithe payers(that does not mean all) pay their tithes without the complete facts about tithes and also the glaring fact that some pastors use this ignorance of folks to deceive and manipulate them. We all have a responsibility to point out faults wherever they take place but when that begins to turn into something else as it is here, we should review our motives and tactics. |
https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-275659.0.html The above link is the thread I created before. Check it and the links I posted there and also in my replies there and then we can come back here to add to what we feel/think/believe. |
Apart from the leviathan which donnie pointed out(which actually is the bible's representation of what we call dragons), Job 40:15-23 describes the behemoth which completely fits the description of a dinosaur. The scientific theory of the earth being millions of years old is wrong as carbon dating is based on three unfounded assumptions. I started a thread similar to this sometime ago but left it when it wasn't really patronised properly. |
