Bishop,Pastor,Apostle,etc, - these are not titles if one really looks at their use in the bible.
Rather, they are positions of authority within the church which people occupy.

They are positions, and not titles.

Hence, Apostle Paul, Bishop Timothy,Pastor John,etc, are all wrong expressions.
Rather what is obtainable is simply Paul, Timothy,John,etc, - or the inclusion of Brother(not compulsory) if one so pleases.
The recognizable titles that can be used are the most common; Mr, Mrs,etc.

go for the average size which I beleive is either a seven or a six , if your girl is petite maybe a five , go to a gold seller that has several sizes of the same ring and strike a bargain to either get helping resizing the ring or agree to change the ring if it is not her size.

She's about 5ft 5'' in height and really slender(but beautifully so) and about 50kg(not exactly-maybe 47 or 48kg) in weight.
Maybe the size 5 will do?

If I had the time I would have travelled, but at the moment, there isn't time cos of work and other things.Definitely, there shld be some places here in Lagos that one can get something wonderful.
I guess the cost might be higher here but that should be the price to pay for my not being able to travel to where i can get it cheaper.

I get the point that u're driving at, but what I want to know clearly is: Do u Catholics consider the rest of the other Christian groups as unbelievers or do u consider them as brethren who have things messed up/twisted?
A straight forward answer;probably with reasons to back it, would help.

From what u've said, there is an indicaton that u do not consider Catholics to be believers; -or do u think they are the believers that have things messed up/twisted/confused?

The reason I'm asking this questions is based on the scenario presented by a family for example:
A father and mother have three children.
These parents have set down the way they would like for their kids to follow.
Kid 1 follows that way to the letter.
Kid 2 and kid 3 try to follow that way but for one reason or the other, they do not confom properly.

The parents are not happy with Kid 2 and 3 and probably discipline them based on this.
But still, these two kids who don't get it right are still siblings with kid 1 and still children of the parents.

Can that scenario be used to determine if all the Christian groups are still brethren despite their differences but as long as they have the common denominator as Christ as their source of salvation?

So maybe it is here we now determine those who do not have Christ as the source of their salvation.

N/B: I didn't start this thread to try to tell a different Christian group(s) that their way is wrong or try to make them see why the other is right.The purpose is just to understand how we all view ourselves.

I'm about to do what is right by my sweetheart; the lady I've been in love with ever since we started courting in the year 2003.
We've had our own share of ups and downs in our relationship but our love for each other has grown stronger with each passing day.

something is not very clear to me about giving to the poor and helping the needy. Is the admonishment or (call it obligation) primarily to the poor and the needy among believers or is it general. From my readings, it appears to me that most time ("I'm not saying in all cases" people of God gave to the poor who happens to be among them or believers in other places. The contributions that was done in the days of the Apostles were either distributed among saints according to their needs or sent to other saints in another place who are in need (they did not take the money to the poor in the street.***I don't mean to say that they weren't helping those who are not Christian and so we should not. Jesus feed multitudes of people among whom there are many who did not believe but are only interested in his gifts***)
Consider the scriptures which says: DO GOOD TO ALL MEN ESPECIALLY TO THOSE OF THE HOUSEHOLD OF FAITH
once again it appears to me that helping the poor and the needy is primarily referring to the poor and the needy among believers.
You can share your understanding.

When it comes to giving or helping the poor, it is both believers and the others.
But there is always priority in everything.
When the "specially to those of the household of faith" was used, it implies that one's priorities when it comes to helping lies with those that are believers before any other person.

It's just like what is being portrayed in 1 Timothy 5:8:

But if any provide not for his own, and specially for those of his own house, he hath denied the faith, and is worse than an infidel.

As 1 Timothy implies, one must make sure his immediate family is taken care of before he tries to help any other person.
So it is as regards helping the poor and needy in relation to those who are believers and those who aren't.
The believers can be considered as the family and the unbelievers as the others.
There is always priority in everything.

The poster wants to know how to hear from God and since he is obviously Christian, he requires the Christian way of hearing from God and that is through the source of info of the Christian faith; the bible.
If it is inaccurate, that is ur problem; not mine nor the posters'.

The only response I'll give to ur post relates to the part about translations.
The translations we see today were not done by divine inspiration; the translations are translations made from the divinely inspired works.
Translations and the originals are two different classes.
The translations are subclasses of the superclass(the original).
Different people with their own methods and ways of understanding translated the originals of their own understandings without any divine inspiration.

Simple reasoning shld help on that.

The only way to "hear" God is to read the bible.Anything that he has to let you know is contained within the bible.He's not going to tell you anything new.
The only thing that could be close to the supposed hearing is the prompting in your spirit to particular portions of the bible for you to read.
I said promptings - not any voice saying "do this,go there,enter here,etc"

Now, the very straight foward answer in relation to Christianity is simply:

An unbeliever is someone who has not believed in Christ as the source of salvation; a person who has not realized that without Christ, he/she is a condemned sinner.

But now, where the issue really lies is:

We have a lot of Christian groups/denominations that claim that Jesus Christ is the source and foundation of their faith; they believe in him as the source of their salvation.
But what is very glaring in these different groups is that, they all have different approaches/beliefs to different issues that exist in the life of a Christian.
All these based on how they interprete the messages in the bible.

So, now, the differences in approaches are very obvious as can be seen here on nairaland.
Does that now mean that some of these groups;based on their own particular belief or approach about certain issues in the Christian faith, could be regarded as unbelievers when it is pretty clear that they could be wrong in their approach.

Should they be considered as unbelievers or should they be considered as brethren who are just making mistakes or on the wrong path?
Can they all be regarded as brethren because they have the[b] common denominator of Christ being the source of their salvation[/b]?

Do the Catholics consider the rest of the other groups unbelivers?
Do the other groups consider the Catholics and the various other groups(pentecostals,baptists,anglicans,so on and so forth) to be unbelievers or are they regarded as brethren who have things mixed up?

Honest answers would go a long way in making this issue very clear.

But you should be aware that for the calculations to be accurate, certain conditions have to be in place.
Going from what the links I posted said, carbon dating cannot give proper results for particular things.
It's good for certain things but fails woefully with some others; fossils most especially.

I'm really wondering if u've bothered to go through the links because ur questions don't seem to sound like those that are constructed based on reading the info therein.

Let me post the contents of one of the links:

Used to estimate the age of ancient artifacts and human and animal remains, radiocarbon dating is regarded by many as one of the miracles of modern science. Some, however, have serious doubts about the credibility of this technique.

Radiocarbon dating works by comparing the amount of normal carbon that is found in a sample with the amount of radioactive carbon. Both carbon and radioactive carbon are found in every living organism. While carbon is quite prevalent in these organisms, radioactive carbon is present only in tiny amounts. Some contend that the relative ratios of carbon and radioactive carbon that are found on the earth have remained constant over time and that, using known rates of decay; we can estimate age on the basis of changes in this ratio in a particular artifact or remains.

Radioactive carbon is absorbed by living organisms throughout their entire life. When the organism dies that absorption stops and the radioactive carbon begins to break down. Because this break down occurs at a known rate it is theoretically possible to compare the amount of regular carbon and the amount of radioactive carbon and estimate just how long an organism has been dead.

Although the theory of radiocarbon dating is interesting, there are several inherent problems with the process. The first of these problems is the fact that the original ratio of carbon and radioactive carbon is unknown. The second problem is that the possibility of contamination of the sample over time is quite high. The older the sample the higher the probability of contamination, in fact! What this means is that using carbon dating to date very old samples is really quite impractical given our current level of knowledge and technological capabilities.

While carbon dating continues to be considered by many as a viable way of obtaining authoritative dates for a wide range of artifacts and remains, there is much room for error in the process. Even the use of accelerator mass spectrometry to analyze the relative levels of carbon and radioactive carbon has resulted in flawed determinations. It is not uncommon for different laboratories to determine quite different ages for the same artifact! While some of this deviation could possibly be explained by contamination or erred methodology in the labs themselves, it is apparent that the problems with carbon dating are much more complex than that.

Very simply put, too many things are unknown to allow the carbon dating process to be as accurate as many proclaim it to be. Factors as diverse as changes in the earth’s magnetic field and changes in the amount of carbon available to organisms in times past could translate into perceivable differences in the carbon ratios in artifacts and remains from ancient times. Even changes in the atmosphere itself could impact this carbon ratio. We know that changes such as these have occurred over time. They are still occurring today in fact.

The fact that carbon and radioactive carbon are independently formed means that their ratios to one another could have changed substantially from ancient times to today. To base our knowledge on the age of the earth and its various constituents on information gleaned from a technique that depends on carbon and radioactive carbon ratios is very simply unrealistic.

Besides this, dating have been carried out on some particular items/organisms that were actually known to be dead a few years old(30yrs for example) and the results were completely stupid and unrealistic

Living organisms were dated and results showed that they'd been "dead" for hundreds or thousands of years.

Doesn't that spell out inaccuracy when used in some items?

As far as it is known, carbon dating is very good on some items but completely way off on some others;fossils for example.

It is true that verse is referring to a lot of the false teachers within the Christian world.
It is referring to those who are preaching a distorted gospel of Christ; those who twist the sayings of the bible to mean things they do not mean.
It is also referring to the various anti christs that are popping up here and there.

Nobody is denying such a fact; so it is just a waste of time bringing this up.

If a guy has the complete details of what is going on between his girl and another guy and finds it to be harmless and innocent,he would have no reason to doubt the girl.
But when the girl starts being shifty and not open about the details between herself and the other guy, alarm bells and signals start to go off in the guy's head(even if there's actually nothing going on).
Girls most times feel that the guy should not ask them what is going on;but that is what begins the problem.
Openess about everything, no matter how trivial or stupid it might look or sound is what helps in development and building of trust between a guy and a girl.

If nothing is going on between the girl and the other guy or guys, she should be free and willing to let her guy know who she is with when he asks.
He might not be happy but after careful consideration,her openess about the whole thing would help set his mind on the proper perspective.

Dragons; a lot of people have believed to be mythical creatures.
Dinosaurs; a lot of people have believed to have existed before man.

The truth is they existed. What were known as dragons were actually part of the Dinosaur family. Only forgeries through time have made dragons to look and sound like most of them are in stories and legends.
But most of the features they possessed in myths and legends actually were true.

The bible makes it clear that dinosaurs/dragons existed and they existed in the same period as man.

Gen 1:20-21
(20) And God said, Let the waters bring forth abundantly the moving creature that hath life, and fowl that may fly above the earth in the open firmament of heaven.
(21) And God created great whales, and every living creature that moveth, which the waters brought forth abundantly, after their kind, and every winged fowl after his kind: and God saw that it was good.

The great whales referred to in verse 21 above was in reference to a dragon,sea monster,serpent,or whale.This is gotten from the Hebrew and greek representations of that portion of the bible(tanniyn,tanniym).

Also, the creature described in Job 41 definitely fits the description of a sea monster that breathes and releases fire which we know is common with the dragon stories.

Job 40:15-24 describes an animal called the behemoth with features that fit only a dinosaur.

Other verses in the bible that mention dragons are:

Nehemiah 2:13
Jeremiah 51:37
Malachai 1:3

Reading the above portion of the bible, the term gods was in reference to people who were in positions of authority who had the responsibility to execute just judgement among the people.
But as one can clearly see, they were not executing their responsibilities properly and had pronouncements declared upon them.
They're simply men in positions of authority and not people who possess god like abilities like Chris Oyaks likes to make people believe.

It is the simple truth from that portion of the Bible that Christ used to make his point when talking to the Jews.Ordinary men in positions of authority were refered to as gods because of their responsibilities as judges of the people;their responsibilities as middle men betwen God and the people.
So how much more he who was sanctified by God and sent into the world?

That is all the point in John 10:34 was about and not the stupid lie that we Christians are gods and possess god like abilities.

Now the part boldened is one of the lies which come from Pastor Chris.The twistings of the word of God are what make him to be a phony in the eyes of many; not necessarily the staged or not staged miracles he does.

Go back to ur bible and seriously study John 10:34 and Psalm 82.6 in the context in which they were used. There you will find that the gods in reference has nothing to do with Christians and also, has nothing to do with possessing god like abilities.
As Christians, we are not gods in any way,- we are simply what we are ;Christians; children of God.

1. Do you believe that you have a duty as a Christian to "tithe"?

Considering the topic title, here are some basic questions (deliberately kept to a minimum for now) for anyone who teaches "tithing" today:

1. Can a "tither" of today choose not to give the monetary "tithe" to his/her "church" or to any "church" at all?

2. Can a "tither" choose to give the "tithes" to charity e.g. to the poor, the orphan the widow?

3. Can a "tither" of today choose not to "pay" the "tithes" every month?

4. Can a "tither" of today choose to spend the "tithes" of one month on whatsoever his own heart desires?

I think these questions are still awaiting answers from those who pay tithes.
Short,Straight to the point answers would be sincerely appreciated.

I know how it feels if a comment from someone puts u in a kind of badlight;u'll definitely want to retort/respond.

Let's just leave it at the fact that the likes of Kunle, Sir John, abose, myself and all others who share our view would continue to give out of our freewill and out of the compassion of our hearts but would not label or structure our giving to resemble tithes as described in the old testament and also not have any worries that we are robbing God(as todak put it)

and,

the fact that you would like to continue paying tithes as it pleases you based on ur convictions about it as long as you are not doing it based on any form of pressure,coersion;deception, or fulfilment of a commandment.

Let's respect our views for now and lay this matter at rest.

Let's give it a rest. I think the only thing we should speak against is the lie that those of us that do not tithe "are robbing God" since some people view and pay their tithes based on instructions of the Law.

(3) Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts.

1John 5:14-15
(14) And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us:
(15) And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him.

These points have to be considered before we ask anything in prayer. wink

Asking right and according to God's will are very important.

I'm putting up another part of the novel this time; not the immediate continuation of the part I posted last, but a part further into the novel.

It was a cold night. The wind swept gently round the environs of the City mall at Onikan, Lagos. The parking spaces of the complex were loaded with different vehicles of different brands and makes. Security officials and parking attendants moved about the complex making sure that areas of their respective fields were being adequately covered. Bus commuters passed and stopped close to the complex; dropping off some passengers and picking up new ones at the bus stop that was beside the race course complex. Some hawkers still moved about, selling their different wares to interested customers. It was about 9:30pm.

Just then, a rider on a power bike pulled into the city mall complex. He was given directions and he soon rolled the bike to a stop beside a navy blue Toyota avensis.
He switched off the engine and pulled off his helmet. The bike was a 2008 Honda interceptor base. It was metallic gray/silver all around and it was a very big bike.
The rider got off the bike and hung the helmet on it. He was a tall man; about six feet and three inches in height, very good looking also and he was dressed in a jet black t-shirt under a chocolate brown leather jacket over a deep blue jeans trouser. His feet were clad in deep brown loafers.
He removed the key from the ignition, stuffed it in his jeans pocket and then strode towards the entrance of the mall where some attractive female ushers were eagerly waiting to usher in guests.
He was soon in the mall and headed towards the hall where an end of year party for an organization; Global Incorporated, was holding. There were quite a number of people moving in and out of the hall. He strode in calmly and very soon was acknowledged by a number of people at the function.
He particularly got a lot of attention from the female crowd.
After greeting a vast number of people, he tried to locate a point where he could seat. Just then, he heard his name being called.
He turned and saw the managing director of the organization; standing with a group of men and a very attractive woman, beckoning to him.
He smiled and made his way towards them.
The managing director grabbed hold of his arm and said to the people around him,
“People, this is whom I’ve been talking to you about. Our chief programmer; Segun Adebayo. He’s in charge of all the programming and software we mete out to the public.”
“Nice to meet you all.” Segun said.

Immediately, the men in the group started asking Segun questions surrounding his work.

It had been twelve years since he was in his first senior secondary year. Now he was twenty-six years old and was the chief programmer at Global incorporated. The company was one of the leading companies in the country that created variety of computer technology based programs and software for different clients world wide. His position at the company had been a widely coveted position but he had stood out with a clear distinction when he had applied for the job alongside other prospective candidates. Also, he was the youngest among the top members of the organization.
The lady in the group that was talking to him was silent. She didn’t say anything. Instead she was admiring his looks.
She herself was very attractive. She was of average height and was dressed in a black form hugging sleeveless dress that accentuated all her features to perfection. Her feet were in black stiletto heeled sandals.
“Err- Segun,” Mr. Wilcox; the managing director, said, “This is Sandra Chukwu; she’s the head programmer at Multiplatforms incorporated. She’s the one I told you who would be working with you in producing the program for the security system for our new bank clients.”
Sandra extended her right hand in a dainty gesture towards him saying,
“It’s nice meeting you, Segun. I’ve heard about your work and I must say that I’m impressed.”
Segun clasped her hand in his and said, “Likewise.”
“Would you like to have a drink,” she said pulling him towards the bar point in the hall, “We could talk about our work plans as we get to know each other.”

Segun smiled as he went along with her. They got to the bar after he had shared a few greetings with some of his work colleagues on the way.
“So,” Sandra said as they both got drinks, “How do you find your work at Global?”
Segun leaned against the bar and took a sip of coca cola. He looked at the different people mixing about and socializing.
“The job is cool. Very promising and it does have wonderful benefits.” he said.
“Ah,” Sandra said with a coy smile, “Of course the benefits. Always the most fun part of any, job won’t you say?”
“If you say so.” Segun said.
“Yeah,” she said, “I do say so. The benefits of the job do match the input one puts into the job.”
“That’s true. But one can’t say it’s the same everywhere,” Segun said, “Some others are having it the other way round; more input, less benefits. We should consider ourselves lucky.”
Sandra smiled and nodded.
“So,” Segun said, “Let’s hear about you. What do I need to know about you?”
Sandra placed her glass on the bar top and leaned against it. She looked at him and then said,
“There’s nothing much to know, except that I work very hard and I also love to enjoy myself when I’m free.”
“Pretty concise,” Segun said, “But still not very enlightening.”
Sandra laughed and then said, “What exactly do you want to know? Ok, I have a boyfriend who usually fills up most of my free time. I also have quite a number of girlfriends whom I usually get naughty with once in a while, and generally I’m a fun loving person. But I don’t usually mix my work with anything else. My work is my work. So, there. Is that good enough for you?”
Segun chuckled and said, “Pretty good.”
Sandra made a face.
“I guess it would be fair that you share a bit about yourself too.” she said.
“Well,” he said, “I also enjoy my work very much. I always believe that every result is an ingredient for a greater result; therefore, I’m always pushing forward for much better concepts on any product that exists or which I come up with. Unlike you, I’m able to mix a bit of fun into my work period. The fun only gives me more inspiration to work. Or should I put it this way-, I could be in a state of work at any point in time. I have official working hours but beyond those, I still work; although not as precisely as my usual work time, but I still work. Mostly in my head and with any available computer at any point in time.”
Sandra took this in and then said,
“That’s impressive. But how about your personal life? Who’s that special girl in your life?”
Segun smiled again.
“Well, the truth is there isn’t any special girl in my life. I have quite a number of female friends but none has taken that particular position you’re referring to.” he said.
“I find that very hard to believe.” Sandra said.
“Hard to believe,” Segun said, “But true it is.”
Sandra looked at him oddly for a moment and then said,
“Whatever you say. After all, who am I to disbelieve you?”
Segun shrugged.
Just then, there was a call for every one to be seated for the event to kick off.
“Would you mind seating with me?” Sandra said, “We could talk some more.”
“I don’t mind.” Segun said.
They then made their way to a couple of seats.

Some hours later, at about 3am, Segun and Sandra dropped to their seats somewhat out of breath. They had been dancing for quite some time.
The event had gradually gone on for a while and had finally moved into the dance part.
“You’re quite a good dancer.” Segun said to her as he gradually caught his breath.
“Thanks,” she replied with a smile, “You’re not bad yourself.”
“It’s been quite a while since I came out for such a social event,” he said, “I hardly have the time or I’m instead doing some other thing to keep myself occupied.”
Sandra looked at him and laughed.
“So, you’re still trying to tell me that you hardly go out for social events like this?” she said.
“Exactly.” Segun replied.
Sandra shook her head and said, “You’re the first guy I would meet in this kind of circle that isn’t so much of a socialite.”
Segun smiled and said,
“I guess you definitely roll around some socialites then.”
“Sure,” she replied, “Besides, I have a boyfriend who is very much into social circles.”
Segun nodded.
“Guess I must be pretty boring company then.” he said.
“On the contrary, you aren’t.” she replied, “I find you to be an intriguing person. You seem to have something in you that creates some form of curiosity for me.”
“Wow,” Segun exclaimed, “That’s pretty deep.”
Sandra leaned back on her seat and crossed her legs.
“Just the truth.” she said.
Segun sighed and leaned back into his own seat.
“So, how are you getting home after this? Hope you came with some form of transport?” he asked, watching some other people still dancing.
“Yeah, I came with my car. I think I’ll be leaving at about 5:30am. So I can get home early and drop off to sleep.” she said.
“So,” Segun said, “I guess we’ll definitely be seeing on Monday so as to work on our schedule for the project.”
“I guess so.” she replied.
Segun then got to his feet and turned to her.
“You up for another dance?” he asked with his hand stretched towards her.
“Goodness me, no. So soon? I’m practically knocked out.” she replied.
Segun laughed.
“Well,” he said, “See you later.”
He then sauntered over to the dance floor and was soon dancing with one of the girls from his company.

Sandra watched him thoughtfully as he danced. He was quite an interesting person, she thought to herself.
