twizzie:
Hi All,

I know this has been addressed here but seeking clarification due to a peculiar situation.

I'm applying to renew my visa but my passport has expired and available date of capture is after current Visa expires. I know people on here have said one can apply with an expired passport but how can I bypass the page requesting for passport details as it keeps saying to put a future expiry date?
Anyone able to help please? Can I put a later date and upload passport application and appointment page as parts of the supporting docs with a note explaining this. @Zahra, @justwise

If someone has just received an offer from the bank but yet to complete, can we go back to the bank to ask for a review?

Btw, @Ticha, just want to give a special shout out to you.

Goodenoch:
Rate cut 0.25% after a 5-4 vote. I was expecting the BoE to hold the line like the US Fed did yesterday but it seems the BoE is more confident.

There have already been some lender rate reductions yesterday/today - hopefully there'll be more (and more substantial ones) in the coming days.

Go back to your application, you should see an additional note where it would show to provide further evidence (ideally they would list what they want you to provide)
Hope this works for you.

Hello my people,
please I need an urgent help, I filled application for skilled worker dependant visa with my children but they send me a mail for one of the children that they can't decide her application because they are yet to take a decision on mine and that they have sent me a mail requesting for additional documents.

Now my issue is that I didn't receive any message requesting additional documents.
Please what can I do?

Thanks. @Ticha. What would you advise based on experience and recent trends(which I know can't be predicted)

2 years fixed at 5.29% or 5 years at 4.84%?

Thank you for taking time to respond, as we are looking at a new build, do we still need the survey?
Ticha:
Been away for awhile. All the important costs are there apart from a survey. That varies - banks will sometimes pay for a basic one. If you want a detailed one then budget £500-£700
TravelRe: Living In The UK: Property,Mortgage And Related by twizzie: 9:25pm On Feb 01, 2024
Any one able to respond to this please?
twizzie:
@Ticha @lexusg @Solumtuya, what other cost should one expect asides the below? This was gotten from L&C as an estimate. This will be less stamp duty as cost is below 450k. As it's a new build, asides snagging charges, what else please can we look out for?

What's most annoying about this news is how these kids now men are constantly being shielded even after one has had countless child abuse/child sexual arrests after been initially released. What would make 10 year olds kill a toddler in such gruesome manner! They should never have been released!

Hello! Pls can anyone advice on family freindly neighborhoods (with good schools) and a decent mix of various races in London. I’m ok with a maximum of 1 hour commute from home location to canary wharf.

Ps: child is a toddler (under 2 yrs), but I’m looking to rent for a long time.

Thanks for your help.

Do you know what frontal adverbial is? Or is it when I was preparing my son for spelling I pronounced steak as stick and I even confidently explained to him what I was saying? You should have seen his face when he corrected me. I used to think English was just English till I moved here. There's so much to learn that you can't push aside.
@Ticha, I can't seem to find the free Khan academy. One I can see requires that one pays. Can you please share a link if you have it?
Mamatukwas:
Sis. I’ve been thinking about this. Why are you paying for extra lessons in English? Maths I get but not really English. Especially as it’s their first language here and most kids speak it really well.

Am I missing something?

They have made a decision. TLS haven't sent an email. Its way way past the expected date. I went to a UK post office (where they would normally have sent the BRP). The BRP has been sent. It means the visa has been granted. BUT the passport has not been returned. no email from tls.
Best to contact TLS Abuja so you can track the passport. I have read stories where they lost people's passport and they kept saying they had not received it from UKVI.

Good thing is you know decision has been made and you have gotten confirmation that the passport has likely been returned to them.

Even if all present and past political leaders are overhauled, the next set coming would be worse.
Have you seen how most of the money miss roads act? with impunity and no regard.
The most annoying sef are the ones without money, road safety officials, passport officials, airport officials, even petrol attendants with small power!

I'm a believer, so I believe in the power of prayer, but Naija issue ehn, all these you mentioned alone will not solve it same way prayer alone will never solve it.

I went to visit a friend in Luton who just moved to the UK and I can tell you all what he described is true. I could not hide my discomfort and I had to blurt it out why they chose that location. I only spent a few hours though but I would not advise anyone to live there.

Na wa oo @bolded when it's not oshodi. Are you sure it's not the part of Luton you live? Although I heard Luton is quite rough from someone that lived there and looking to move but not the extent of what you have described here.

When I mentioned earlier about single occupancy, we got contrary opinions from others, about entitlements about the spouse.........
I was paying the 75% until I read it here I did not have to.
Sharp, I sent my council mail, took them a while to respond but they did and asked for proof. Sent the same letter I had used for 25% discount to them with brp of my partner and I. Long story short, I am not paying council tax till March even though I finished school this September as they applied the already paid to the unpaid. Send your council a mail please. NB, House was rented in both my partner and I's name but does not cost you anything in sending an inquiry.

Dante is disappointing everyone here. Check their reviews online. I used them too, and I was lucky to get day 2 results in less than 24hours. Test to release results didn’t come till now. Day 8 results too, no show till now.

They also don’t respond to emails and have no customer care line for complaints. Stay away from them.
TTR is a risk, I'd say wait for your day 2 test result before you book it. You can take day two test on or before day 2 so take the test as soon as you arrive.
If someone on your plane just tests positive, you are likely to be called by test n trace and you have to stay for the whole 10 days. If you like, book 2 TTR, you won't be able to go out and worse, you won't get a refund.

Also, if your test kit never arrives after paying, call 119 and they will be able to send you a replacement kit.

If you don't get a result too, call 119 but make sure you have your test kit barcode for reference pruposes.

If the only non-student adult in your dwelling is your spouse (husband or wife), civil partner or an adult dependant, the dwelling may still be exempt. The dwelling should still be exempt if your spouse, civil partner or dependant is not a British citizen, and has been given immigration permission to be in the UK with a ‘no recourse to public funds’ condition or a prohibition on employment endorsed in their passport or on their Biometric Residence Permit (BRP). This covers almost all spouses, civil partners and dependants from outside the European Economic Area (EEA) or Switzerland who come to join an international student in the UK.

Some local authorities have refused to recognise that a dependant who has permission to work in the UK but has a ‘no recourse to public funds’ condition is exempt from Council Tax. This generally happens because while the law says that the concession is for a dependant who is prevented from taking paid employment or from claiming public funds, the local authority may interpret the word "or" to mean "and". In May 2012, Mr Justice Sales in the High Court dismissed such an interpretation by the London Borough of Harrow on this basis, in a case specifically about the council tax liability of the dependant of a student. The judgment confirmed that local authorities should be applying the latter "disjunctive" meaning of "or", and that it is sufficient for a spouse to meet one of the requirements, not both. If you wish to appeal against your local authority's interpretation of "or", it is advisable that you seek advice from an adviser at your institution, your Students’ Union, your local Citizen’s Advice Bureau or a local solicitor. and refer them to this judgement (Harrow London Borough Council v Ayiku [2012] EWHC 1200). An earlier judgment by Lord Denning in the case of Crosfield Electronics v Baginsky and Others [1975] 1 W.L.R. 1135 was not specifically related to council tax or to students, but did have the same interpretation of the word "or".

The dwelling will not be exempt if your non-student spouse, civil partner or adult dependant living with you in the dwelling are:

An EEA or Swiss national, or the family member of an EEA or Swiss national, who is exercising a right of free movement in the UK
A British citizen
Settled in the UK (with 'indefinite leave to enter' or 'indefinite leave to remain')
https://www.ukcisa.org.uk/Information--Advice/Fees-and-Money/Council-Tax#layer-3875
LagosismyHome:
It is not only the student who is exempt... the student dependant as well. So if your wife is a dependent to a student visa person then she too

Making this not necessary . So only if you are on two different visa category. For example if one was on Tier 2 and another Tier 4

Are you relocating from Canada to UK?
TravelRe: Living In The Uk-life Of An Immigrant (part 2) by twizzie: 9:44am On Aug 29, 2021
I got the 25% student discount but didn't know even my dependent is exempted. I'm currently checking my council website and I don't see anything. Any link will help please. I am still checking as we speak, this must not pass me by wink wink
cc Lagosismyhome.
fatima04:
A lot of people don't know this. Tier 4/student and their dependants are council tax exempt. If you have been paying, apply to the council for exemption and money paid will be refunded.
