comeon Dear don't allow prejudice blind you.

What he was teaching about isn't purgatory, he was teaching about Shoel, Hades or what latins call limbo patrium.

That is not purgatory, shoel is believed by catholics, anglican, lutherians, orthodox and a wide range of evangalical, protestant and reformed churches.

Go back and read about it, study what happened to the dead in the old testament.

Christianity Etc › “faith Is This: To Touch Jesus" Pope Francis by Ubenedictus(op): 1:39am On Jun 29, 2015
Vatican City, Jun 28, 2015 / 08:59 am (CNA/EWTN News).- The Pope focused on the virtue of faith during his Sunday Angelus address, saying the whole gospel is written in its light.

“Faith is this: to touch Jesus and to draw from him the grace which saves,” Pope Francis explained June 28 at St. Peter's Square, reflecting on the healing of a haemorrhaging woman in the day's Gospel reading. She believed that if she could but touch Christ's clothes, she would be healed.

“And so it is,” said Pope Francis. “The need to be freed drives her to dare, and faith 'snatches', so to speak, healing from the Lord.”

He waxed on the Gospel reading, saying that the Father, through Christ's healing, in a sense, said “Daughter, you are not cursed, you are not excluded, rather, you are my daughter!”

“And every time Jesus comes to us, when we go to him with faith, we hear this from the Father: 'You are my son, you are my daughter! You are healed, you are healed. I forgive all, all. I heal everyone and everything.'”

Pope Francis also discussed Christ's raising of a 12 year old girl who had died, saying that in her father's appeal to Jesus, we feel “the great faith which this man has in Jesus.”

Christ's reaction – “Do not fear, only have faith” – give courage, the Pope said. “He says to us, so often: 'Do not fear, only have faith!'”

“These two episodes – a healing and a raising from death – have a single center: faith. The message is clear, and can be summarized in one question: do we believe that Jesus can heal and can raise from the dead? The whole Gospel is written in the light of this faith: Jesus is risen, has conquered death, and because of this victory we too will be resurrected.”

Francis lamented that “this faith, which for the first Christians was secure, can tarnish and become uncertain, to the point that some confuse resurrection with reincarnation.”
“The word of God this Sunday invites us to live in the certainty of the resurrection: Jesus is the Lord, Jesus has power over evil and over death, and wants to take us to the Father's house, where life reigns. And there we will meet all, all of us in this square today, we will meet in the Father's house, in
the life that Jesus gives us.”

He added that Christ's resurrection “acts in history as a principle of renewal and of hope. Anyone who is desperate and weary unto death, if they rely on Jesus and on his love, can begin to live again … faith is a force of life, it gives fullness to our humanity; and who believes in Christ must be recognized precisely because they promote life in all situations, so that everyone, especially the weakest, can experience the love of God which frees and saves.”

Concluding, Pope Francis said, “We ask the Lord, through the intercession of the Virgin Mary, the gift of a strong and courageous faith, which drives us to speakers of hope and of life among our brethren.”

The TEACHING is not a Christian teaching, no matter where it was taught.
It is a most funny this to make such emphatic statements on what constitute Christian teaching when it seems you are ignorant of Christian teaching yourself.

The practice of fasting along with worship is a most ancient practice in the Christian Church, the practice is older that all protestants churches and communities. We see the 1st hint of fasting while in worship in the bible Act 13:2a "while they were all worshiping the Lord and fasting..."

"From the very earliest time the custom was observed of administering the Eucharist to the faithful who were fasting. Toward the end of the fourth century fasting was prescribed by many Councils for those who were going to celebrate the Eucharistic Sacrifice. So it was that the Council of Hippo in the year 393 issued this decree: 'The Sacrament of the altar shall be offered only by those who are fasting.' Shortly afterward, in the year 397, the Third Council of Carthage issued this same command, using the very same words. At the beginning of the fifth century this custom can be called quite common and immemorial. Hence St. Augustine affirms that the Holy Eucharist is always received by people who are fasting and likewise that this custom is observed throughout the entire world".

My dear incase you don't know the council of Hippo and Carthage are the council that gave us the bible that you use in bragging around today.

So if you claim the practice of fasting before the eucharist is not a Christian practice then you may also throw away your bible because the council that gave you the bible and a great catalogue of early Christian rightly teach that it is a Christian practice.

If your church isn't practicing it that is your cup of tea, but you can't come and start pontificating on what are Christian practices and what are not when you yourself is ignorant of the practices of the Christian church before the 20 century.

Respect owe gi.

i don't know where you were taught this but it isn't exactly true.

All catholics are encouraged to fast for an hour before receiving holy communion, just an hour! (sick and old people are exempted and water does not break the fast)

If you were born in 1910 then it would have been about 3 hours or even starting from midnight till the time for mass in the morning.

Today nobody is told to go to church with empty stomach, please if you are attending a 6pm mass the nothing stops you from eating breakfast and lunch.

Also this law does not concern those who for one reason or the other do not receive communion.

Nowhere in the Catholic church's doctrine that says fasting before Mass( not just going to church) is a sign of sincerity. It's a pity that as a Catholic faithful you have no idea of the true doctrines of your church. Fasting is encouraged an hour before you receive the Holy Eucharist not before you go to church/mass. You know the significance of your holy eucharist, so i don't need to tell you. According to the church's canon law:

An2elect2:
We are not saying the same thing sir.

He is saying Christ died for every human being, and now it is left for them to accept or reject Him and His finished work. In other words God has made salvation available for every man and only those with some self produced faith can choose to believe and be saved while the rest can keep tasking themselves until they can manufacture enough faith to believe. He and others may not have said it exactly like this but this is what they are saying.
this is YOUR interpretation of what they said not what they said. The bolded words have only been used by you.

I am saying that Christ died not for every man because if he did all men will be saved for salvation was bought by His blood through death for all those chosen in Him.
Acts20:28
Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to
all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost
hath made you overseers, to feed the church
of God, which he hath purchased with his own
blood.
it seems you are cherrypicking scriptures. Sorry to say but the death of Christ was a covenantal death, you have to accept a covenant if not you are not part of it.
You have a wierd idea of salvation. It reeks Calvin.
There are so many scriptures that talk about God's chosen people and our redemption secured through the eternal sacrifice of God and not our wills. To say otherwise is to handle God's word ignorantly or treacherously.

It is mutually exclusive to believe and teach that God has a peculiar chosen people for salvation and at the same time believe and teach he wants everybody saved. Not possible!
go back and check your bible
the bible actually says
"God wish all men to be saved" it is possible becos d bible says so.

No matter how hard men try to hide the doctrine of election, it cannot be hidden. It was expressly taught in the scriptures. If there was election then everybody is not going to be saved. Election means selection, making a choice. And this choice is made by no man or their deeds but God. Believe what you may that is what it is.

Romans 9:11-16 King James Version
(KJV)
(For the children being not yet born,
neither having done any good or evil, that
the purpose of God according to election
might stand, not of works, but of him that
callethwink
It was said unto her, The elder shall
serve the younger.
As it is written, Jacob have I loved, but
Esau have I hated.
What shall we say then? Is there
unrighteousness with God? God forbid.
For he saith to Moses, I will have mercy
on whom I will have mercy, and I will have
compassion on whom I will have
compassion.
[bSo then it is not of him that willeth, nor
of him that runneth, but of God that sheweth
mercy.

We who are believers know men do not produce the faith that is wrought in our hearts unto salvation
Romans 10:17
So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing
by the word of God.
hehehe,
the election you teach does not come from scriptures it comes from Calvin.

Secondly faith itself is also not a human doing, it is a gift, a grace.

How many think they are the only ones who truly baptize with Jesus Christ's authority? How many think the other religions, even the Christian ones, are not on the right path? How many are totally, off the wall, crazy?

They all use the same book. Why so many different interpretations if it is so easily understood?

ihedinobi2:
Why do you expect me to quote Bible verses? I thought you know how I discuss religion. Do I quote verses out of hand especially when someone has expressed a lack of confidence in the Bible as we know it? You give me far less credit than I deserve. Why exactly is that?

To the issue, "Christian who slanders, insults and humiliates others" is an example of an oxymoron, don't you think? What is a Christian other than a human being who lives like Christ or, at least, is devoted to living like Christ? We don't need a Bible verse to establish that, do we? A Christian who does all that stuff frosbel described is a false Christian just like a dollar bill that fails to exhibit all the qualities expected of one produced by your Federal Reserve is a fake bill. It is really very wrong to speak as frosbel did because he defines Christianity without clear reference to the Christ from whom it derives.

About the Bible as a guide, consider this: every discipline, every art, every expression of life has some authority that defines standards regarding it. You, for instance, teach English and creative writing as far as I know. You refer to some authority or authorities to shape every idea you convey or express. If life has an author then that author is not unlikely to set standards in line with their purpose for inventing life. If the author did that then the author would necessarily have to assume the responsibility to preserve those standards in all clarity or else it would be unjust to demand that or expect those they create to live up to them. Assuming that God did in fact give a guide to us in the Bible, he would then be responsible to preserve it pristine and easily communicable and understandable to the least human or else he would be a most unjust God to expect everyone to live according to it.

For this reason, it makes no sense to me that we should assume that God neglected to ensure that during translation and compilation the Bible's quality was always preserved. If God were a being limited by time in that he could die and be absent from events like those then it would be expected that his standards would fall into ruin but he is necessarily an eternal being and everything that exists is directly or indirectly his invention. So it is contrary to reason that he did not preserve the Bible whole regardless by whose hands it was handled.

You have said that "too many men" did such and such but have you thought about it? How many is too many? How did you decide that those who handled the Bible were too many? How many would be ideal?

Finally, do you notice that you are picking and choosing what to believe? You deliberately reject the Bible as an authority to define your beliefs. But you subscribe to Christianity - or Christ Jesus, if you prefer. That raises the question: 'what defines your beliefs as a Christian?' Also, why are you convinced that God wants anyone or everyone to return and that there is more than Heaven and Hell? Are you inventing these beliefs yourself or are you receiving advice from another source? In either case, why do you find it easier to believe your source (whether it is yourself or some external source) than the Bible? I am not asking about your lack of confidence in the Bible, I'm asking about your confidence in what you do derive your beliefs from.
i hope you remember you are discussing with tex? The question are a bit much and her belief isn't exactly fixed.

You're a liar, the English word was from the Latinized word derived by Martini NOT from the Tetragrammaton itself.

This is another key place, YEHOWAH was form by Martini which YOHOUA later in LATIN later derived from.
Now the point here is, YEHOWAH which was FORMULATED by Martini this word doesn't have any form of NAME EVER USED IN HEBREW.
So deriving the LATIN WORD 'YOHOUA' is inaccurate which later form Jehovah.
Hope you can get it now?

NO! Translator's right MUST NOT against the rule of translation which is the derivatives WORD MUST AGREE WITH THE ROOT WORD.

You're wrong this statement doesn't portray 'MAYBE' but ONE OPTION THAT IS BETTER THAN ANOTHER.

Absolutely!

So the pronunciation is not important to God but any NAME DERIVED IS IMPORTANT, very illogical statement.
Mind you the key point isn't only on pronunciation but THE WORD MORE CLOSER TO THE ORIGINAL LANGUAGE

I don't have any beef with any translations that used Jehovah BUT my point is how your organization will claim that they want to RESTORE the DIVINE NAME and PURPOSELY USED JEHOVAH just because ("...people's familiarities with it"-PONDER ON THIS STATEMENT) when they know that YAHWEH is more closer to the Original than Jehovah.

You provided answer to this question yourself below in your post which I will point out when I get there.

Ok! Read this from your own Organization,

"Misconceptions about the holy spirit
Fact: The King James version of the Bible includes at 1 John 5:7, 8 the words “in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one. And there are three that bear witness in earth.” However, researchers have found that those words were not written by the apostle John and so do not belong in the Bible. Professor Bruce M. Metzger wrote: “That these words are spurious and have no right to stand in the New Testament is certain.” —A Textual Commentary on the Greek New Testament." http://www.jw.org/en/bible-teachings/questions/what-is-the-holy-spirit/ (Bold mine)

In fact your organization has paraphrase this man's statement because what Dr. Bruce said is "(Because the manuscript evidence of I John 5:7-8, King James Version, is insufficient, this text should not be used. There is, however, abundant proof for the doctrine of the Trinity elsewhere in the New Testament.)" http://www.bible-researcher.com/metzger.jw.html (bold mine)

This is not the FIRST TIME JWs will do something like this you can browse and see how JWs have MISQUOTED Scholars in their work and what Scholars say about NWT.

NO! Words were not JUST FORMED without any RULE(S) guiding them.

I've said this before the same Scholars have criticized the usage of JEHOVAH in KJV.

Now I'll use this to answer your above question about;
A Yoruba man wrote a book and this word was found there 'GBNG' whereas most of the place this word appeared it indicated that it's referring to someone.
So what a Scholar of Yoruba will do are:
1. Understand that this is someone's name
2. Know that something has already missing in those letter, since such word never convey any REAL NAME in Yoruba.
3. Find how to resolve this dilemma by substituting some letters to make it pronounceable and have meaning.
4. So in Yoruba like other languages there's vowel and consonant. So if will begin to insert letters many WORDS will come out, we'll surely get name and some incorrect word i.e GB(e)NG(o), GB(a)NG(o), GB(o)N(e)G, GB(e)N(o)G(a), GB(a)N(e)G(a), GB(e)NG(a) e.t.c

5. From here, I'll only take the two underlined words GB(e)N(o)G(a) & GB(e)NG(a) because the rest isn't even sound as NAME.
6. Now both GBENOGA and GBENGA looks similar but only different with the insertion of the vowel 'O', as a good Yoruba scholar you will know that the INSERTION of vowel 'O' has deformed the PRONUNCIATION and the MEANING of the closest ROOT WORD and every Yoruba man knows that GBENGA is a NAME BUT GBENOGA never convey any true NAME in Yoruba Language.
wow!
Goodwork, its been long since I researched and discussed this topic. If I remember correctly the word jehovah was invented when a funny scholar put the vowels of adonai into the tetragramation.

It was at best a manipulation of words.

The first century Church clearly understood the particular roles of both water and Holy Spirit baptisms. Unfortunately, the knowledge of the roles of these baptisms were lost in the Roman Catholic Church, which took over from the early disciples of Christ. The popular belief in most new churches today is that only Holy Spirit baptism is necessary. My thinking is that once you decide to become born again, it is good to receive both baptisms. Each one plays an important role.
i don't like it when people throw blames without really investigating.

The catholic Church didn't lose anything of what was received from the apostles, whether on water baptism or laying of hands for the fullness of the spirit, everything is kept and still used today in the catholic church.

The problem with the new churches didn't come from the catholic church it came from a guy called calvin.

But there is truth. You either walk with it' all you lie about it. Which one are you huh
Jesus said one must be born again, if there is no denomination, then why is the Lord calling for the body' His Church, His personal army to believe in Him.
We are born again Christians, the Church that belongs to God. There's no other church that stands above the Lords Church, one must be born again.
How about you cool
lol brocab,

I am a born again Christian, I am surprised that you seem to think God is you sole property! God is not for you alone! He isn't for even Christians alone.

There is only One God and he is for all and all belongs to him.

If you believe in a God that belong to you alone then you are serving an idol.
