Yeah, i think babatunde earned his place, i think he will be a very big miss for Nigeria. In a midfield with a very slow mikel and a defensive onazi, babatunde was the lifeline of attack and creativity.

The team will miss him.

Beautiful
striktlymi: Um...I will say you are quite right on that. I don't just accept stuff because someone says so. I don't accept the Teachings of the Church because the Pope or someone else says so. I accept the Teachings of the Church because the Holy spirit dictates whatever the Church Teaches.

For me, Catholicism is not something one just accepts truly without asking some soul searching questions and making some rather detailed research. The questions and scrutiny lead me to Catholicism...let's just say, if I had not chosen Catholicism, I wouldn't have chosen Christianity.

Don't get me wrong, I believe firmly that Jesus calls people in very different ways. He uses those who seemingly are outside the Church but the answers I seek can only be answered within the context of Catholicism.

mba emeka: You haven't said anything new. But I agree with most of your exegesis. Now proceeding further.

Acts 2 : 21 whoever shall call on the name of Jesus shall be saved. What does it mean?

This statement was made by the same Peter. He preached Jesus to them. He explained how he was killed and how he had resurrected. He implored them to accept the lordship of Jesus christ.

They said what shall we do? Then he told them Repent (change your mind) and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of sins.

Then they accepted Jesus lordship. Verse 41 nails it. Then everyone that had accepted Jesus and was saved was then baptised. Period.

This is in Peters day. In Philips day. In Pauls day.

Please save that 21st century hocus pocus bogus you are trying to sell. It was the order in bible days.

Ask your priests where they got their own order from. I have accepted the bible ordained way.
correction on d bolded, verse 41 didnt say those wu were saved were baptise. It says those wu received his word were baptised, peter earlier said batism was 4 d remission of sins and the reception of d spirit, so those wu received d word were beptised so their sins will b 4given and they will recieve d spirit. In oda word this simply confirms 1 pt, baptism now saves u!

POPE II: Jesus is God , there's no way humans could have led him astray. There's no way his "fame/popularity" on earth could have sent him away from The path of his father.
The Pope is kinda different, I don't think I need to explain what I mean. Besides the people surrounding him are not him so erm .
Unfortunately I don't pray for him everyday, will definitively start doing so
"the people surrounding the pope" is a big story for another day, in my personal opinion that may b d reason for pope bens retirement.
With d pope it seems the media has added salt and pepper but his manner of speech isn't helping matters.

Syncan: A little bit of history may suffice here:
"The Roman Missal that Pope Pius V issued at the request of the Council of Trent, gradually established uniformity within the Western Church after a period that had witnessed regional variations in the choice of Epistles, Gospels, and prayers at the Offertory, the Communion, and the beginning and end of Mass. With the exception of a few dioceses and religious orders, the use of this Missal was made obligatory, giving rise to the 400-year (4 centuries) period when the Roman-Rite Mass took the form now known as the Tridentine Mass.

It is unfair to make the new mass look like it is not based on what is. Certain things may Change, but it has been changing earlier and the substance still remain same.

Source : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pre-Tridentine_Mass
i think pop puis v can authoritatively tell us how far back the vetus ordo goes, this is wat he says:
"Hence, We decided to entrust this work to learned men of our selection. They very carefully collated all their work with the
ancient codices in Our Vatican Library and with reliable, preserved or emended codices from elsewhere. Besides this, these men consulted the works of ancient and approved authors concerning the same sacred rites; and thus they have restored the Missal itself to the original form and rite of the holy Fathers."

i didnt say it wasnt based on the vetus ordo, i instead said it was a reformation, and i'll now add that its reform didnt develop organically.

Your Response :

Do you mind telling me what I said is expected and what you said is not?
the xpression rome has spoken d matter is ended is usually used to buttress dogma, it is final in that context actually means nobody is allowed to disagree, d case is thus irreformable. That isnt what is expected in matters of discipline, in matters of discipline obedience is enuf, and discipline arent irreformable, one can rightly petition for a redress.
I never implied that the pope isnt d final court as u seem to put in my mouth. Instead i said d attitude of 'rome has spoken matter ended' isnt excepted in matters of discipline.

Again i'm happy about my choice of words
Syncan: A little bit of history may suffice here:
"Towards the end of the eighth century Charlemagne ordered the Roman rite of Mass to be used throughout his domains. However, some elements of the preceding Gallican rites were fused with it north of the Alps, and the resulting mixed rite was introduced into Rome under the influence of the emperors who succeeded Charlemagne. Gallican influence is responsible for the introduction into the Roman rite of dramatic and symbolic ceremonies such as the blessing of candles, ashes, palms, and much of the Holy Week ritual.

The recitation of the Credo (Nicene Creed) after the Gospel is attributed to the influence of Emperor Henry II (1002–1024). Gallican influence explains the practice of incensing persons, introduced in the eleventh or twelfth century; before that time incense was burned only during processions (the entrance and Gospel procession). Private prayers for the priest to say before Communion were another novelty. About the thirteenth century, an elaborate ritual and additional prayers of French origin were added to the Offertory, at which the only prayer that the priest in earlier times said was the Secret; these prayers varied considerably until fixed by Pope Pius V in 1570. Pope Pius V also introduced the Prayers at the Foot of the Altar, previously said mostly in the sacristy or during the procession to the altar as part of the priest's preparation, and also for the first time formally admitted into the Mass all that follows the Ite missa est in his edition of the Roman Missal. Later editions of the Roman Missal abbreviated this part by omitting the Canticle of the Three Young Men and Psalm 150, followed by other prayers, that in Pius V's edition the priest was to say while leaving the altar".

Do you dispute any part of the above? does it not show the continued removal and additions that took place earlier?
that is what liturgist call organic development in the liturgy and no serious catholic can deny that. We have seen how the gallician rite influenced the roman and how d additional prayers of mass in the the mass were developed from already existing customs.

Would u like to show us which pre exixted prayers and rites influence d latin rite thus giving birth to the novus ordo?

Syncan: Did I not say it earlier? It depends on who you're listening to.

However, Father Angelo Geiger,a former general delegate of the FFI in the United States, had this to say:

“The restrictions on our community are specific to us and have been put in place for reasons specific to us,” Father Geiger stated through his Mary Victrix blog.
“Pope Francis has not contradicted Pope Benedict,” he said. “The visitation of our community began under Pope Benedict, and the commission was recommended by Cardinal João Braz de Aviz, who was appointed to the congregation by Pope Benedict.”

According to Article 3 of Summorum Pontificum, "Communities of Institutes of consecrated life and of Societies of apostolic life, of either pontifical or diocesan right, wishing to celebrate Mass in accordance with the edition of the Roman Missal promulgated in 1962, for conventual or "community" celebration in their oratories, may do so." Benedict's motu proprio goes on to state, "If an individual community or an entire Institute or Society wishes to undertake such celebrations often, habitually or permanently, the decision must be taken by the Superiors Major, in accordance with the law and following their own specific decrees and statues."

Father Geiger said, “What is being reported in the press and what has actually transpired within our community over the course of a number of years are two different things."
it does not depend on wu u are listening to, it depends on wen you are listening, by d looks of it u just stumbled upon this topic, geiger made that comment just after d restrictions were made and for d most part simply rephrased the statement of d ffi spokesperson, do you know what happened to the leaders of the community and d desenters.

then u never see something oh, all the traditional rites all through the ancient church have their priest facing d tabernacle or d crucifix. Both orthodox, orientals and catholics actually faced the tabernacle/crucifix and the east. The mass is supposed to be the priest leading d people to God. D alter is supposed to have a rail dividing it frm d rest of the churh in d latin rite, d eastern rite has a curtin.

Theologically the priest and the people facing the d tabernacle/east signifys christ d head leading the church to the father, the priest excercising and symbolising d unique mediatorship of christ. That significance is now lost in d novus ordo.

try69: The phrase "of water and the Spirit" (Greek, ek hudatos kai pneumatos) is a single linguistical unit. It refers to being "born of water and the Spirit," not "born of water" on the one hand and "born of the Spirit" on the other.

At Jesus' baptism, the Holy Spirit descends upon him as He comes up out of the water (cf. John 1:25-34; Matt 3:13-17; Mark 1:9-11; Luke 3:21-22). Furthermore, what distinguishes John's baptism of repentance in anticipation of the Messiah from Christian baptism, is that the latter is a baptism with the Holy Spirit (Matt 3:11; Mark 1:8; Luke 3:16; John 1:31; Acts 1:4-5).

Consequently, on Pentecost, Peter calls the Jews to "be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of sins" and promises that they will "receive the gift of the Holy Spirit" (Acts 2:38), thus fulfilling the promise of John. Peter clearly teaches here that the "water baptism," to which he directs the soon-to-be converts, forgives sins and bestows the Holy Spirit. Christian baptism, then, is no mere external, repentance-ritual with water, but entails an inner transformation or regeneration by the Holy Spirit of the New Covenant; it is a "new birth," a being "born again" or "born from above."

What's wrong with 21st century protestants?
abeg post this again and again and again mayb some will read it.

This is the measure interveiw giving by the FFI skopesperson,
The interview was conducted by the Vatican expert Andrea Tornielli.
(q)Why was an Apostolic Visitation of the Institute approved by authorities in the
Vatican?
(a)Because it was demanded by a minority among the brethren who no longer share the leadership of Founding Father and General Minister and the desire to promote the Vetus Ordo next to the Novus Ordo in the institution, as required by the Motu Proprio Summorum Pontificum and the
Instruction Universae Ecclesiae.

(q)How important was the question of the old Missal in connection with the apostolic
visitation?
(a) It had great importance because said group of brothers accused the founding father to
have imposed the Vetus Ordo on the entire institution. The accusation is absolutely false, but it was believed, and all our attempts to convince the proper authorities that it is false, were to no avail. Meanwhile, the false assertion by various media and
news agencies became more widespread to cause serious damage to the reputation
of our founding father and the institute.
(q)Websites related to tradition interpreted the message of the provisional administration and the decision to stop the use of the old
Missal's permission, as undermining the Motu Proprio of Benedict XVI. Do you share
this view? How do you comment on the appropriate decision?
(a) Father Lombardi has clarified that the measures do not undermine us regarding the Motu Proprio. However, we are waiting
for an authentic interpretation of the liturgical rules of the Holy See that affect us.
Indeed, it is not clear, for example, who the "competent authorities" are, of which the above authorizations may be granted: the Commissioner, the Congregation of Religious, the Pontifical Commission Ecclesia
Dei, the local bishop, one or the other or all together?
We hope that this is a temporary
disciplinary action, and that we will, as soon as possible, again allowed to celebrate in the Vetus Ordo, as we have always done,
and that without the current restrictions that rob us of that, even though the Motu proprio Summorum Pontificum and the
Instruction Universae Ecclesiae have higher universal force.

(q) In the corrections to our articles you have always stressed that the use of the old Missal was not exclusive and that all decisions were made in accordance with the provisions of the Motu Proprio. Is it true
that the Ecclesia Dei Commission had asked the Franciscans of the Immaculate to
exercise prudence in the Apostolic
Visitation, regarding the manner in which
the use of the old Missal will continue?
(a)Yes, and we have acted with utmost restraint and in complete respect of our particular law, which confers the General Chapter "the highest authority in the Institute" (Constitutions, § 81). It was just the most recent General Chapter in 2008, which stipulated that the General Council (i.e. Father Stefano M. Manelli and his five consultants) to create a detailed protocol for the introduction of Vetus Ordo in our communities. This introduction was performed with the letter dated 21 November 2011. The Pontifical Commission Ecclesia Dei was invited in advance as a precaution d to examine the letter, and they realized that it was equivalent to the mens Holy Father Benedict XVI. This official assessment took into account in any way for the further development of our affairs.
The thing seems inexplicable to us and it hurts us a lot. We have confidence in our cause the heavenly Advocate, Queen of the Seraphic Order.
Christianity Etc › Re: A Thread For Catholics by Ubenedictus(m): 11:45am On Jan 10, 2014
A long article, bt it may give ya an idea of wat happened.

(Rome) Following the exposure of Vatican Insider as the mouthpiece of the rebel group in the Order of the Franciscans of the Immaculate, it is aptly trying to limit the damage for the sake of balance. This includes an interview with the only official spokesperson of the Order, Father Procurator General Alessandro Maria
Apollonio. Father Apollonio expressly rejects the attempts to reduce the provisional government of the Order by the
Congregation of Religious to "internal tensions" that have nothing to do with the
traditional Roman Rite.
From the interview it appears that there is a small minority in the Order, which is known to be led by Father Alfonso M. Bruno, but
that this alone would not have been able to be effective. The input of six brothers in the
Order to the Vatican Congregation offered but others obviously can find, against better
judgment, a welcome pretext to act against the Order.
The interview also reveals a certain weakness of the Pontifical Commission Ecclesia Dei, whose significance seems limited. The Commission had previously
approved the procedure of the General Council of the Order with the introduction of Vetus Ordo. However, this official confirmation had no relevance for the Congregation of Religious.
Some things the matter of the Franciscans
of the Immaculate, are so fundamentally different, the two questions are reminiscent of the final stages of officially frozen
unification talks between the Society of St.Pius X., and the Holy See. The Superior General of the SSPX, Bishop Bernard Fellay,
spoke in the fall of 2012 that "signals" had come from Rome, which made an agreement seem possible. Indeed, such was
already virtually certain at Easter 2012. But then everything changed. The "conflicting
signals" were interpreted as a synonym for a power struggle back in Rome back ( see
separate report ).
Some seem to suggest that the Order of theFranciscans of the Immaculate constitutedan example to be directed against the Old Mass. Still unclear are the exact relationships, such as whether it would deter other orders, also to discover for
themselves the traditional form of the Roman Rite, or whether the examples were even targeted against Ecclesia Dei communities. In tradition-bound circles, the
scope of the attack quickly organized a protest that has been recognized and grown, which does not seem to have unimpressed Rome.

actually dear i'm very happy i chose my words carefully i never said the above, the above didnt come from me.

If i'll touch the issue at atall, i'll say sacrosantum concilium was clear enuf, d novus ordo wasnt a codification of the vetus ordo it was a 'reform', under a 'new awareness'. Parts of the vetus ordo totally disappeared and d signs and gesture disappered, prayer were removed and new prayer were formulated, it was a "reform". It was truely a 'new order of mass'.
I'll leave it there.
