plaetton: Hey, You beat me to it. grin

This is an abdication, not a resignation.

I smell a big big rat.
The catholic church does not break with tradition for no reason.
His excuse is not good enough. He is supposed to die in that office.

The suddeness of the resignation is a good indication that he is being forced , by unknown forces within or outside the Vatican, to abdicate.
Coupe de etats in the Vatican are not new.

Stay tuned. cool
peter d hermit also called pope celestine resigned and he was also sad.

He was the third most powerfull cardinal after cardinal ratzinger(now pope benedict) during the reign of pope john paul. Hope vatican politics or his nationality does not deny this dedicated man of this palpacy!!
As pope, dont expect him to communicate in plain english(His words are coded). those who read in between the lines will decipher this guy is under pressure and speaking of conscience, you should reason that he talks of the struggle between good and bad in his own heart. looking back to history, so many scandals have rocked his office and exposure of classified files which threatens the existence of the office itself. Just recently, one of the bodyguards blew a whistle about the corruption in the hierarchy. i guess this is the humble pie he has to bite. It's the only option he has i guess. (in my own opinion)...
d so called whistle had nting to do with d pope, it was abt d roman court.

Read from twitter that there's a 'Prophecy of Popes' that states that Benedict XVI will be the secon to the last Pope before the coming of Christ
that must be d much talked abt "prophecy of st malachy" or that of nestradamus. I dont subscribe to any of dem.

d scandal is there whether he resigns or not. The last time i watched a papal mass, d pope couldnt walk to and from d alter he was using a rolling platform, b4 that he was flanked on both sides by deacons, he already uses glass. 16hrs in the office. His mind and body cant hold that much stress, he is increasingly looking tired day by day, already uses glass. If he fill his age would limit his ability to serve in dat particular ministry, i totally support d move.

truthislight: someone posted this on the queen of heaven thread:

ok, in the instance someone wishes to enlightens us, let me open this for ease of quote:
....................................................

As someone who hails from a mostly Catholic family, I have been having my own problems with digesting the dogmatic (in my opinion) statements about Mary and the Church in general. I'm even getting disillusioned with all forms of religious formalism. After years of careful observation and introspection leading to freedom from denial, I am beginning to view religion the way it is currently practiced (and even what has being in practice in the past) with great suspicion. It's beginning to look more to me as a pardonable cause for brazen hypocrisy. I do however, still believe in God. Here are my problems with the Roman Catholic Church:

1. Mary is the Mother of God? This statement sounds very misleading to me. When I hear the word: God, I think of a Divine Being that exists from everlasting to everlasting. How can He then have a mother? Did Mary give birth to Jesus' divinity as the statement suggests? If anyone decides to give an answer, I would remind you that I am no longer in the frame of mind to deceive myself anymore. Please give a reasonable explanation.

2. Why is the Pope said to be infallibl
i also remember i answered them all. Dont draw me back. Dont bring a dead goat for flogging, all interested shuld go to d said thread.

Zikkyy: No confusion at all. The Pope did not write his own version of rhapsody of realities or any of those pastoral books and claim it was the word of God. Just imagine a situation where the Pope comes up to altar one sunday morning and lay before the congregation some set of books previously un-heard of and say some were written by Paul, some by Peter and some by Jesus himself. He then instruct that the books should be accepted as the word of God, am sure italo will not believe the pope is serious. Infallibility was not the basis for accepting the books in the bible. validity is further reinforced by the fact that these books were already in use by the early Christians. Am sure the church adopted a scientific approach at the point of deciding the authors of these books, it was not done by divine revelation abi? or did the pope wake up one morning and say this one was written by Paul & this one was written by Peter with no basis for such decision? So if we decide to flow with the arrangement, it's probably because we see sense in the approach adopted not because the pope cannot be wrong.
u mean d scientific appoach used by d bishops cannot be wrong abi? Oh and dont forget many books were in use that didnt enter d canon.

Enigma: ^^^ Let me let you in on a little secret; keep it under your hat and don't let anyone know!

For most of its early history the Roman Catholic Church itself did not believe in papal infallibility at least. Don't forget that papal infallibility is a key if not the main plank of the Roman Catholic doctrine of "infallibility". wink
hehehe, an invitation to the long road we have gone thru so often.

oga enigma, u seem to be runing round circle. Maybe i'll ask d question directly. Does the christian bible as compiled by the earlier xtians have d deterocanonical books or not? And dont give me d septuagist crap because it also also d said books. So u may want to tell us why d removal of d detero books isnt suspect.

Enigma: ^^^ At one point at least, they were preaching and selling indulgences. What happened to "infallibility" then?

smiley
do you actually know the best historian on planet earth cant prove that any particular pope preached d sale indulgence? Please do correct yourself.
And again are u aware that if all the popes did it wont even make a case against infalliability unless u can prove he spoke ex-cathedra with the aim of establishing doctrine.
The stuff been pedled around by fundamentalist as "sales of indulgence" wouldnt even affect infalliability at all. Besides d fact that d suppose "sale" can hardly be proved.

Christianity Etc › Re: Pope Benedict Resignation * Full Text Of Pope's Declaration: by Ubenedictus(m): 5:40pm On Feb 11, 2013
Umartins1: Dear Brothers,

I have convoked you to this Consistory, not only for the three canonizations, but also to communicate to you a decision of great importance for the life of the Church. After having repeatedly examined my conscience before God, I have come to the certainty that my strengths, due to an advanced age, are no longer suited to an adequate exercise of the Petrine ministry. I am well aware that this ministry, due to its essential spiritual nature, must be carried out not only with words and deeds, but no less with prayer and suffering. However, in today’s world, subject to so many rapid changes and shaken by questions of deep relevance for the life of faith, in order to govern the bark of Saint Peter and proclaim the Gospel, both strength of mind and body are necessary, strength which in the last few months, has deteriorated in me to the extent that I have had to recognize my incapacity to adequately fulfill the ministry entrusted to me. For this reason, and well aware of the seriousness of this act, with full freedom I declare that I renounce the ministry of Bishop of Rome, Successor of Saint Peter, entrusted to me by the Cardinals on 19 April 2005, in such a way, that as from 28 February 2013, at 20:00 hours, the See of Rome, the See of Saint Peter, will be vacant and a Conclave to elect the new Supreme Pontiff will have to be convoked by those whose competence it is. Dear Brothers, I thank you most sincerely for all the love and work with which you have supported me in my ministry and I ask pardon for all my defects. And now, let us entrust the Holy Church to the care of Our Supreme Pastor, Our Lord JesusChrist, and implore his holy Mother Mary, so that she may assist the Cardinal Fathers with her maternal solicitude, in electing a new Supreme Pontiff. With regard to myself, I wish to also devotedly serve the Holy Church of God in the future through a life dedicated to prayer.

From the Vatican, 10 February 2013 BENEDICTUS PP XV

Logicboy03: Does certain mean right?
not neccesaryly, but if we are declearing right and wrong then we must must be certain, as truth isnt suppose to change.
Religion is certain on many wrong positions. The catholic church has embarrased itself on condoms, evolution and abortionso many times that it had to change its rigid point of view on these moral issues
sorry u have been misinformed abortion and contraception are still consider moral evils by d church, d position never change. Evolution on d other hand isnt a matter of faith or moral and nobody is forced to be for or against.

Christianity Etc › Re: Worst Bible Translation? by Ubenedictus(m): 5:06pm On Feb 11, 2013
truthislight: what a silly question?

Can you produce the original manuscript and show the best translated word?

Will a choiced translated word not be discarded if it contradicted other parts of the bible?

Is it a first come and translate and chosed words that suite his doctrin that should put a stamp on the "word" that should be used at a place irrespective of the fact that the bible has been contradicted?

You people really think that the owner of the bible is "foolish" and cannot write a none contradictory book.

Keep allocating fraudulent authority to yourserves.

Other people have a clean fear and respect for the almighty God and will not be influence as some other people have been, making additions on God's words and contradicting it.

Keep deceiving yourselves by thinking that the bible contradict itself.
i really dont get the above, the question isnt whether d jw translation is right or not. I'm not accusing anyone no need to get defensive. I simply asked u to answer whether or not d jw translation first had d word "worship" and later changed it in d later editions.
Is enigma right dat d jw once translated it as worship? Or is he wrong? That is all. I'm not trying to point fingers at nobody. That's all

Enigma: Bros, it is not really totally unreasonable to go off topic or even to discuss that particular topic here.

My own grouse is that when some people talk nonsense that they cannot substantiate, they then desperately look for ways to obfuscate that issue so that others forget it --- instead of doing the decent, honest thing that people in quest for "Truth" or claiming to be committed to "Truth" should do: the honourable thing of saying "OK I have no proof for that statement".

In general, I am very averse to playing that game with them. smiley

PS don't mind that I am being tough on "Roman Catholic defenders" in another thread; for me, it is actually nothing personal with anyone on this forum. smiley
no problem, even wen i disagree with u, it doesnt mean i didnt see ur point. Those threads are naturally hot.

Christianity Etc › Re: Rosary No More!! Why I Stopped Praying The Rosary!! by Ubenedictus(m): 10:45am On Feb 11, 2013
Neddivine: For me i'm not vast in the history of the bible. But this thread seems to have one thing in common which is that catholics compiled the bible which is questionable to me till i can find solid historical proof. However let's just assume catholics compiled the bible:
1)This simply means they never wrote the bible but compiled manuscripts that were already existing.God could have used anyone to do this.He used Kings Cyrus and Artexerxes who are pegan kings to rebuild the house of God and the city of Jerusalem when Israel was driven to captivity. He used a dumb ass to speak to an erring prophet. He used ordinary ravens to feed Elijah....I could continue.
another claim is d apostle were catholics.
2)and for the bishops that were claimed to have compile scriptures,I personally percieve that catholics didn't start off in error. It is possible that at the time of these bishops there was true worship of God and none of these catholic idolatrous practices & doctrines. The errors may possibly have been added generations later by false worshippers which errors unfortunately have continued as the devil would have it till now.
actually my dear everything professed in d cath church today comes from dos early christian. Im very happy to say d cath church didnt moved off track.
This is true today of many churches today that started well with the sound doctrine of righteousness and eternal life in Christ but have veered off to ungodly proffessions & lifestyles especially those that unconsiously propergate eternal security by teaching that once you're saved, you're forever saved no matter how many sins you willfully commit afterwards because christ has already paid for and pardoned your past, present and future sins. This is the unconscious erronous teaching ravaging most churches worlwide these last days especially in America and UK.This is why there are so many ungoldy lifestyled individuals speaking in tongues and claiming born again these last days.
once saved always saved isnt a new doctrine in protestanism, it is one of d founding doctrines of calvin and co.
Its good to point to the errors of the catholic church while also exposing general errors in christiendom worldwide so we can fight and pray for their correction.
what errors are u talking abt?

On the galileo case a appreciate ur sincerity, my friend truthislight is still throwing trantrums and calling me a liar.
GiantParrot: This is actually true. Galileo was never tortured. I was truly misinformed and I apologize for coming out with such an untrue claim without proper verification. Nonetheless, he was robbed of his freedom for speaking the truth. This is obviously morally wrong.
that trial wasnt black and white, galileo had a theory he couldnt prove and the church refused to let go of a literal interpretation, under d premise he was judged am sure that none of his judges did anything that would prick their concience. It was d 16th century not d 21 cent.

And on indulgences, I haven't been misled. Pope Pius V ended the sale of indulgences in 1567. In other words, they were sold. And yes, I can see from my little investigation that their sales were a form of abuse.
now, i'll like to correct u, indulgence can be recieved by prayer or/and Good work, e.g studying scriptures for 15min is indulgenced! In d dat time contribution to d building of st peters was indulgence, in essence u recieve an indulgence for contributing whatever amount to d building. That wasnt a sale, it was quite legit morally, d abuse dat happened came from d german papal emmisaries who by their preaching made d whole stuff look material, and refused to teach d people d conditions of recieveing an indulgence. D contributions were later stopped because of d numerous abuse.
