Thanks for d topic and the charitable way it was present. The answer of different people will vary becos everyone has his own angle of looking at d facts. This is my opinion. tintingz: This have been on my mind why the bible(new testament) did'nt give any report or account of Mary mother of Jesus(peace be upon her)because the bible is not suppose to be an account of her, during d time that d bible was compiled there was a document called d gospel of james which gave a large insight into d life of mary but d book wasnt included because d new testament is not suppose to be a personal history book. Did it occur to you that you cant even find d lives of many of d apostles in d bible? This is because d bible is a revelation of the love of God and his work with men thru d centuries and not a history of biography book. or the way christians call her "mother of God", if Mary is truely the mother of God and Jesus is God according to christian saying why is it that we dont have a single chapter or report of Mary (mother of Jesus) given her view: life of Jesus(as) both young and grown and the way "christian God"(Jesus christ) lived in his young and teenage life(if he performed any miracle during his teen) if truely Jesus (peace be upon him) is God and the saviour of the world who carried the whole sin of mankind, atleast we have Mary chapter(surah Mariam) in the Quran why not also have it in the bible even catholics don't have it in their bible.well it would be like seeking self glory for mary,. The only history in d bible is salvation history and if u check you will find out that the bible new t only covers d infacy and public ministry of Jesus because that is what is important for our salvation not some mary story. mkmyers45: @First Bolded: What word do you use for what allegedly transends logic?dear friend i dont have a special word for what transcend reason, but i have an experience it. Can you relate that point with logic so we can see the difference and agree to its superiority.do u want to help me. I never mentioned superiority i talked about transcended. It is imposible to explain spiritual matter to someone who doesnt believe he has a spirit. We need a starting point. @Second Bolded: You can be kind enough to copy and paste them here for all....better still i can give you a link to pope john paul documents on faith and reason. It is a christian perspective and to be specific a catholic perspective. http://www.vatican.va/holy_father/john_paul_ii/encyclicals/documents/hf_jp-ii_enc_15101998_fides-et-ratio_en.html i would be happy to discuss with anyone on the points he raised. Peace |
big father: Agents of END TIME !well correction the catholic church didnt start with constantine. There were many popes before d 4th century, or even constatine, many bishops priest and lay faithful. The catholic church existed before constantine he was a cathecumen. |
MacDaddy01: Jesus Cleanses the Templewell, friend he probably threathen them with the whip but there is no record of flogging them. |
mkmyers45: Normally religion is only a matter of faith and the logic of science doesn't apply. Other than the concept of Designed Humanism, are there other religions that can combine God with a belief in logic?as far as im aware religion is very logical, it uses logic and reason, it is not opposed to reason or logic but it trancends reason and logic. I think a google search will reveal pope benedict's ideas of faith and reason. |
MacDaddy01: Flog the sinner, hate the sin. Sounds appropriate.i looked thru the scripture passages again, and there is no mention of the whip making any physical contact with the merchant. Your use of the word 'flog' is unwarranted. |
OLAADEGBU: When it says that Jesus was in the form of God it means that He was God from eternity who created all things and this is corroborated in John 1:1-3i wholeheartedly agree, probably the first time i totally agree with your post. Peace |
MacDaddy01: lololol....did Jesus preach love to the merchants in his church?ofcourse, he loved the merchants that is why he convicted them of their sins and drove them from d temple. Love the sinner hate d sin. |
Enigma:yeah lord have mercy. |
plaetton: This is excellent.a good point, personally i think that if we insist on proving that God exist before we turn to him we may never find him becos we are trying to treat him like an intellectual problem which we can solve, define clearly, put in his place and then grant him his due. Such a god doesnt exist. We may by intellectual arguement, reach d conclusion 'therefore there must be an uncaused cause' or 'therefore there must be a necessary being and to that uncaused cause and necessary being we must give d name God', but such intellectual conclusion although it may be a useful step, does not bring us to a personal God, to d God of abraham, isaac and jacob and to the father of our lord Jesus christ. The God of the philosophers and the God of the bible may seem different to a christain, the God of the prophet is mysterious but be is also full of feeling a God of great compassion, tenderness and love, and therefore also of anger, wrath and fury when those he loves and cherishes treat one another unjustly. The God of the philosophers is remote and impersonal but the God of the prophet is like a too edged sword which pierces our inner life laying bare our inner feelings and thought, the most base as well as the most sublime. I posit that for those for whom the arguements of the philosophers donot suffice then they must find that personal God thru a different means. The ancients of christainity called prayer 'Heart speaking to heart'. We find God, the true, living and loving God first with our hearts and then in our minds. It is not that the heart is mindless, the heart has its reasons, but they are often hidden from our concious minds. God is a mystery and our finite minds cannot adequately grasp him. One can know a mystery and grow in d knowledge of it but the more we enter into d mystery of God the or more accurately the more the mystery of God takes hold of us, the more we realize that he is a mystery. And to know him we must do that which the scientist do he must be a working hypothesis. He must be The beckoning word that calls out of ourselves and beyond ourselves. The reason God is more frequently found in the mind is because he is a personal God, the unity in our inward being, the greek philosophers say 'the one in many'. yes u luv all dat exist, u hold nthing of what u created in abhorrence, for had u hated anythin u would nt have made it. And how had u nt willed it, could a thing persist, how be be conserved if nt called forth by u? U spare all thing becos all things are urs, lord, lover of life, u whnse imperishable spirit is in all. Wisd. 11;24-7a personal being at work in every human being, loves each on and is drawing each to himself. I probably wrote too much, i hope u can bring out meaning from it. Peace and blessings. |

plaetton: He he he. why does anyone need god! For what ultimate purpose! so that........!ha! Athiesm hasnt really helped the world has it communism and all the anti God guys turned out to be dictators, talk about a failed project. In God i have found the the meaning of life, what it truly means to live. |
suwailad: @Inesqor by intangible what do you mean by that?it means he cannot be measure or detected. |
ijawkid: Witnesses teach d truth about HELL and how d bible views it....this agruement is a strawman, a logical falacy called arguement from silience. Unless you can show that the scripture say 'lazarus had no story' then you are making an illogical arguement and the burden of proof rest on u to show that lazarus had no story. And even if lazarus didnt have a story it wouldnt even have an effect in this arguement. Peace |
Omolola1: Right now am confused!i will like to comment on the lazarus point, lazurus didnt have a story of heaven or hell because lazarus didnt go to heaven or hell, lazarus was a shoel, a place where d dead slept before the coming of christ. It is like a subconcious place, those in shoel were freed after the death of christ and the scriptures bear witness. |
lilkech: Hello,God is not a name it is a title that is used to refer to the supreme divine being. |
ATMC: u missed something in my post. I wasn't referring to praying 'to' but 'for' the dead. They differ. |
ATMC: u missed something in my post. I wasn't referring to praying 'to' but 'for' the dead. They differ.in essence yes, im saying that even after death God may still be merciful and grant salvation 1cor 3:15 clarifys that even if a mans work is burnt up he will suffer loss yet he will be saved, but only as through fire. So simply put xtian who made little mistakes of imperfection before they died may still go to heaven but they must suffer loss and their imperfection must be cleansed because nothing defiled can enter into heaven. One can pray for them since we belong to one body in christ and ask God to quicken their purification and grant them rest in his kingdom. That is the last part of the doctrine of the communion of saints. The saints can join you in prayer and you can pray for those who havent yet experienced the beatific vision. Peace be with u. |
musKeeto: So could you define the relationship between faith and reason?simply put, faith transcends reason but doesnt oppose it. |
wirinet: Are you Mr Olaadegun alter ego? You make so many false claims, unfounded assumptions and worse still outright lies just to sell your dogma - and you claim to be a geologist.wow im aware of a scientific theory or rather hypothesis that states and proves the posibility of a universal flood and it says almost the same thing the bible says. The earth was a single landmass, if u are a good scientist you can probably imagine what happen when the continents broke away and how it happened. |
truthislight: imagine!well im not allowed to contribute but it would be unfair if i didnt tell u that you lack understand of how a christain is save and the salvation christ won for us. Please i would advise that you take time off, lift ur bible and digest the word of God avialable there, hebrews may be a good starting point if it is not too strong. Ask the holyspirit for help b4 studying. I would have addressed ur point but i would want to respect the op wishes. I wish you divine blessings. |
Ihedinobi: I have said elsewhere that I do not care to know anything except I have been shown that it somehow bears upon the increase of Christ in the life. I do not care for argument for its own sake, or argument intended to rip an opposing view to pieces. I argue to test ideas against all the power of reason, hopefully Holy Spirit-governed reason too by any luck. The issue I wish to present here for study and debate, as far as I can see, bears upon the Christian's development such that a misapprehension of it renders him ill disposed to the Love of Christ which is the Very Nature of God from whom the Christian is said to derive birth.well as much as i would have loved to contribute meaningfully in this discussion, i just found out that it is for people who consider the bible as the final authority. My final authority is the word of God not the bible alone so it seems im not invited have a nice discussion. Peace |
Dear deep sight i want u to look thru ur post again and take a look at the reaction to it. You are argueing against doctrines yet the arguement thus far has been on the different understand of God. One cant fully worship unless he know what he is worshipping, that is why doctrine are important. St paul was proud to say 'i know who i believe' because faith is an important component of worship and 'faith comet by hearing', this shows that we do not only need our inward being to worship, we also need our mind. True faith must be also be expressed so u also need ur body. Worship is and expression, a unique expression. Deep Sight: ^^^ And what does it take to worship God, if not simply be a good person?my answer is yes. In all sincerity, let me ask you what you understand by the injunction that one must worship God is Spirit and in Truth?to truly and sincerely worship from the core of your being and to specifically worship with ur whole being. In my own understanding, that simply means that dead outward ceremonies are not the substance of worshipping God - that the worship of God rather relates to the inward state of the spirit which corresponds to eternal truth.i share a similar but different conviction, true worship truly relates to our inward being but true worship doesnt end in our inward being, it transends the soul, remember the sherma it says 'hear o israel d lord ur God is one and u must luv him wit all ur heart, all ur soul nd all ur strength'' the love for God or worship must transcend d soul, it must also be in d heart, you must also recognise and know him that is why it says 'with all ur mind', you must act on it that is why it says 'with all ur strenght' worship cant stop in our inward being it must be expressed, it must radiate and transform us until all our being is involved. This is why I brought up the parable of the good Samaritan, which I thought should be sufficient to show you from your own bible that the worship of God has absolutely nothing to do with outward ceremonies, rituals or dogmatic or doctrinal acknowledgements.see the old testament and u wil see God talking about ceremonies, do u think he did it in vain, christ also instituted a way of worship a ritual do u tink it was in vain? Do you disagree that one should 'know who he believes'? For me dogmas and doctrines are signposts that help us in knowing the one we worship. So it should be noted that the parable was given within a context of salvation – namely that which would be required for one to be accepted with God.very true. Now it is instructive that Jesus selects a Priest and a Levite to demonstrate his point – because the Priest and the Levite as you well know symbolize those who expressly acknowledge God, accept all the attendant doctrines about God and morality, and actively execute the outward rituals of “worshipping” God. The Levites as you know were a dedicated tribe of holy priests within the nation of Israel.yeah, he was showing that the levite and priests had left the spirit of d law and are now following a dead letter. Please note that this doesnt condemn true worship even when rites and rituals are used, it instead condemns the use of those ritual without the spirit of love. Rites and ritual can express worship for God but without that inward component those rituals are in vain. |
sammyjay441: u 2re nt worthy 2 exist u born by mistakeif there is anything wrong in what i have said point it out, if not why do you insult me? Peace |
I am curious about the possibility of sin, repentance and forgiveness in the world to come
there is zero posibility of repentance in after death but there is a posibility of mercy even after death, you can ask how. |
ATMC: Tx bro goshen, i like u a lot, u know dt? U nd other brethren should clear me on this: when jesus said dt d sin against d holy spirit shall not be forgiven neither in this world nor in d world to come, does it mean dt there r sins dt can be forgiven in d world to come, cos of late i'm begining to believe dt there is forgiveness in d world to come except dt a certain sin wont be forgiven as such. This has made me to think about d roman catholics nd d church of jesus christ of d latter day's saint, who pray for d dead, how come about this revelation to them?actually it isnt only the catholic church and lata day saints that pray to the ''dead". All the churches that existed before 1500 pray to the ''dead'' and high anglicans and jews do the same. To talk about pray to the ''dead'' is insultive to a catholics becos the bible makes it clear that there are no "dead" in christ. If you 'left this word' a xtain then you are alive in christ you are not dead you are alive, infact you have an abundance of life. If you are a big fan of christain history then you have probably heard about the apostles creed the last part says ''i believe in the holy spirit, the holy catholic church the communion of saints the forgiveness of sins the resurrection of d body and life everlasting''. The phase i want talk about is 'the communion of saints' if you read you bible well you will find out that the saint are *believer on earth *those in heaven *and those undergoing 'salvation by fire. The doctrine of d communion of saint say that the believer on earth, the saints in heaven and those 'going thru fire' are one body of christ, one church. Just the way the all parts of a human body help each other, so must the part of christ body so the believer on earth(militant), in heaven(glorious) and those going thru purgation are in communion. That mean in christ well have access to one another even those who have left this world. Just the way a protestant can ask his pastor to pray for him a catholic can ask the saint and angels and humans to pray for him since they are all brethren in christ, a catholic can also pray directly to God. That is the almost complete doctrine of the communion of saints. The last part of the doctrine is purgatory after reading these passages of scripture and the witness of the apostles the early xtains also believed that some sins can be forgiven in the other world. The state or place of in which such sin are dealt with is call purgatory. To be continued. |
Deep Sight: Please Mr Annoy, its just a joke, you know where it started. . . don't become MR ANNOYEDwell this thread seem private but i hope i dont piss off anyone by adding my response. I think mr annony gave the core of the teachings. *i dont exactly know because im not God and God reserves the right to judge to himself. *God did give hint or sign post, to reject christ is to reject what he stands for and to reject his person, in a word it means to reject that which is ultimate good. *one who rejects this 'all good' is condemn because to reject right is to choose wrong. *non believers will be judge by by how they follow that 'law in their heart' because within everyman there is a soul, a good. *all men shall be judged with justice and love. You may ask for clarifications if you need them. Peace |
plaetton: God has caused so many problems in this country, so much bloodshed, so much hatred and division, so much exploitation, so much abuse of the poor, innocent and the defenceless, so much slapping, raping and sapping. Isn't it time we do a little bit of introspection and ask ourselves some questions about god?.God is immanent he cant be deported. Even if no one was 'religious' in Nigeria, God would still be in Nigeria because he is all present. |
Rossikk: I've been thinking about this story of the Jesus character ascending up 'into heaven' before onlookers.i know you already have your opinion on this matter, but im open minded enough to give my input. Imagine beings with spirit and consciousness, well there is the problem we can only imagine the spiritual (at least until we get there) we dont know it, we do know exact physical body cant live in d spiritual but i know a glorified body like that of christ which could transcend space and time can also trancend realms, that is the work of God. You may probably see me as blinded and confused, but give it a thought, so much is posible. And a good scientist would not throw away any posibility when dealing with an unknown, the spiritual realm is largly unknown and our mind cant take us very far. This is my 2 cents and i hope you read with and open mind. I wish you blessings. |
Welcome back,
maybe u shuld repeat that statement because im just coming back from an 'internet holiday'. but seriously this dubious pretense of yours is pathetic. This is take a look at post 360 (seven posts back) you'll see I specified the alexander, you even replied in a manner that showed you knew exactly who I was talking about.my response in post seven is like d standard response i give to protestants talking about 'bad popes' i didnt need to know anything to give u that responds. But after cross checking i couldnt find a bad alexander and the pope who answered alexander are about 8 so if you want to talk about popes, do ur research and give specific names. Among all the popes that beared alexander, alexander the vi is d only bad guy, next time simply specify and save me the stress. I don't think I have the energy any more to continue this argument as we will just keep going round in circles.atleast going aroung in circles signify movement, this discussion almost seem stagnant. However, I am still interested in that "clear proof" of Mary's "immaculate conception" When you come across the link, please send it my way. I'd love to see it.no problem, do you know anything about st ephrem? |
maryswags: Where in d bible did christ gave the church power 2 forgive sins? When readin d bible, pls don't pick a particular verse to interprete, read d whole chapter and if possible d sorrounding chapters to get a grasp of the full storieswow!!! Surprise surprise did u miss the part in john when Jesus said, 'whatsoever u forgive are forgiven' or are u trying to ignore it? Or u saying that those word of christ shouldnt be? Oh!! Or are u just biased because your church doesnt and cannot use the power christ gave to forgive sin? It seems u find it very hard to accept the truth. |
OLAADEGBU: We are still expecting Ubenedictus to get back and tell us how Mary became the spouse of the Holy Spirit.sorry ola i took some weeks holiday from the internet im sorry i couldnt answer u earlier. How are u doing buddy? |

Thus the idea of 'Jesus' ascending up into heaven before onlookers is most absurd, even by the crazy standards of the Jewish book of fairytales called the bible, isn't it?
