Travel › Re: Fun Facts You Didn't Know About Passports by Ugosample(m): 7:29pm On Aug 16, 2018
awelekiti:
that's not true. I've been carrying Nigerian passport majestically and proudly since 2004. Amazingly, I travelled for the first time to US on a Virgin passport unassisted in my late 20s. I've displayed it in various border posts like US,UK,Germany,Switzerland,France,Holland and the remaining north American countries. Even though I had the opportunity to apply for foreign passport, I declined to do so. I believe in Nigeria. Nigeria has made me and I'm already giving back. You can imagine a US government inviting you for a meeting , being the only one to be so invited in the whole of Nigeria. How many foreign passport holders had such a rare opportunity to have an evening with the US President? I was in Germany recently and on getting to the immigration Officer at the departure post, I presented my passport for stamping and he said wow, so you're from Nigeria. Which part are you from and I said Ekiti state but I live and work in Lagos. He said he loves Lagos as he's been there a couple of times and the gist started. He was so much engrossed with the gist that he forgot many people on the queue. The way you see Nigeria is what becomes of you but many have failed to realise this. Your being born in Nigeria isn't by default. God knows. Ask God to unleash your potentials so you could thrive and fulfill the purpose for which you were born here.
how do you feel when you have to apply for visas ALL THE TIME for most countries of the world?

That passport is a disadvantage and you know it!

You may be held in high esteem (maybe because of your personality) but the passport is still USELESS

Passport that cannot guarantee you free movement to at leadt 30% of the countries of the world is not worth it

it pains my heart to say it, but its true

It is pretty obvious you do not have one. People that talk like this are the useless ones. Same passport millions of well-meaning Nigerians have been using...
The stress that passport has caused me is enough for me to hate it.

What's worse?
Nigeria has the diplomatic clout to make it better I.e. negotiate more bilateral deals with other countries and all.

Now because of that useless passport, I cannot travel to a lot of destinations at the drop of the hat (like my other friends can)
you will have to start applying for visa upon visa

even to most African countries

it's terrible

All the passports listed in this top 10 need a visa to enter Nigeria ( I think with the exception of Luxembourg).

Yes, that's a fact! Nigeria remain one of the toughest country to visit without a visa. You have to be from ECOWAS countries and some Arab countries to visit without a Visa. grin
that's true

But it's nothing to be proud of anyways

As long as multitudes of Nigerians are crossing the Sahara to Europe

Nigeria will get no respect whatsoever

If we like close border

Most naija rich folks lack business acumen. All of them just rush into real estate because you don't even have to think or worry about running a business as a real estate investor. Nobody wants to think about an innovative business idea that will employ people on a long term basis. They simply want to develop an estate and start collecting rent.
The Nigerian economy is not stable enough for "innovative business ideas"

That's the truth

Many Returnee Nigerians have been ruined financially because of trying to be "innovative"

That's why many decide to play safe.

Especially in a country where access to credit is abysmal

When using your life savings to invest, you think twice

That's just the way it is

Here to share another experience. So, after doing strong head for months, I finally got an iPhone X from a guy who badly needed the money. Good deal for $400.

I was home fumbling with the phone o. Trying to fit it into a case. Before I hear anything, the buttons were pressed together, phone entered power mode/call sos, kia kia, it was dialing 911. I panicked and ended the call after one ring.

3 seconds later, I got a call lol. I was not gonna answer but my friend told me if I didn’t, they would assume I was in trouble, couldn’t speak, trace my location, and send cops to come and save me from whatever the issue is.

I hurriedly answered the call lol. “Hello, this is the Dallas police department, we just got a call from this number”. I told them it was a mistake, that I just got a new phone and the phone dialed 911, etc. They said ok, laughed, said goodbye and hung up.

Taxpayers’ money works. If I was genuinely in trouble, they would have arrived on time to save my big black ass.

You are very right sir.

And even more unfortunate is the fact that the rich also cry in this country. Your wealth may not protect you when the herdsmen come calling. SARS will carry you and carry your wealth. The judicial system will deny you justice and damn the consequence.

If only our challenges in this nation were of an economic nature, then "making it" in Nigeria would have been a sweet song of victory. But even when you make it here, you still have to confront the political challenges, security issues and other maladies that pervades our dear nation, with no end in sight.

Whenever I get the opportunity to relocate abroad, I will grab it with both hands. Not because I cannot make it in Nigeria, but because I want to give a better start for my children and generations yet unborn, while enjoying the rest of my days in peace, safety and good health.

How can Nigeria progress when they choose people raised with such mentality to lead them?

The most intelligent Yoruba or Igbo man with advance degrees will bow and suck up to someone with minimal education from the North. They dare not engage them in any kind of intellectual exercise. Then someone had the effrontery to say that Nigeria is not cursed.

A big shame!

But an average tribalist Yoruba will rather give the worst candidate From the north his vote than an overqualified Igbo guy.

It the same for the Igbo tribalist.

Now you're just waking from your slumber . Boko Haram would even make the region even 50 years backward more. When our forefathers were an advocate of free education, spending their energy and penny to ensure our parents enjoyed free education, you guys said education cannot be free, focussing only on Islamic education as if there were no Muslims in the southern Nigeria or other parts of the world who enjoyed and combined western education with Islamic education. The current king of Saudi Arabia schooled in the west yet, my brothers and sisters in the north were brainwashed by their smart leaders who succeeded in educating only their children in places like USA and UK. If I were a northern youth.....I won't say what I'd have done to the northern leaders who are still around. They caused their generation a perpetual misfortune they've found themselves in.
