The Argentinian National Team, its Management and fans must be seriously celebrating the immediate return of their mercurial talisman and captain – Lionel Messi – to the fold of the squad after FIFA freed him from a ban of four matches earlier imposed on him for allegedly insulting a referee during a recent match involving Argentina.

This is real good news for Argentina because without Lionel Messi, they look and play like any other ordinary team but with him on the field of play they are simply completely different and very difficult to beat. All one needs to do to confirm this fact is to take a look at the results of matches in which he was absent for the team and those in which he played. Even the immediate past match played without him against Bolivia ended 2-0 in favour of the latter.

While the FIFA appeal committee believes that his behaviour was possibly “reproachable”in nature, the evidence provided for the ban was surely insufficient. This decision makes Lionel Messi available for Argentina’s remaining matches in their struggle to qualify for next summer’s World Cup finals in Russia.The accompanying fine of 10,000 Swiss francs (£7,800) was equally quashed.

Oh Dear! I am sure that the Celta Vigo players, fans and Management must still be wondering what hit them last night. Some people there are probably sleeping now just because they could not do so properly last night.

If some people in Manchester could not go to sleep last night, I am very sure it is for a very different reason – drinking late into the night in celebration of an unlikely result produced by their darling team – The Reds as Manchester United is popularly known.

Before the match took place, a whole lot of Manchester United fans would have been happy enough if their beloved team came out of the encounter without defeat. Yes, that is how difficult it looked like. You can therefore imagine their feelings when the center referee blew the final whistle of the game with their darling team up by that solitary goal scored by their beloved youngster – Marcus Rashford!

It was this young man’s free-kick that made the difference for his team in this all-important game for both sides as they hoped to qualify for the next edition of the European Champions’ League through the back door.

This was surely a night to forget for Celta Vigo as they tried their very best but that was not enough for them to achieve their aim this particular evening.

From the way this match was played, it is almost safe to bet that Manchester United will be playing in the final of this competition not just because they will be playing at home in the return leg but also because they have shown this season that they are the “draw specialists” when the going gets tough.

Celta Vigo this evening goes into a face-off with Manchester United in a match that is very important to both teams in their bid to qualify for the next Champion’s League Competition.

The chances of any of them to qualify directly from their home league placements are quite remote as it presently stands even though Manchester United still has an outside chance of doing just that.

This evening however presents both teams the opportunity of making a sure step by way of direct qualification through the Europa League if they are able to win it outright.

What are the chances of both teams in this tie? This depends on a large extent on the line-ups especially as far as Manchester United is concerned especially now that some key players are injured. However, this is no big excuse as we all know that this team has a plethora of good players to call upon.

On a positive note for ManU, Paul Pogba and Phil Jones reportedly trained with the rest of the squad this week and are likely going to be part of this game at a particular point. Also available is Marouane Fellaini as well as Rooney who seems to have re-discovered his goal-scoring form to some extent. Very importantly however is the news that Bailly is likely to be fit for this game. His importance in the heart of the Manchester United’s defence cannot be over-emphasized.

What about the Celta Vigo team news? Sources say that the former Liverpool striker Iago Aspas is expected to pair John Guidetti in the home team’s forward line. Just as it happens in societies where morals are still being properly observed, It was a case of youth bowing down to their elders yesterday in the first leg of the European Champions’ League game that took place in Monaco yesterday as the home team were roundly defeated by “their more elderly opponents” Juventus F.C. of Turin.

However unlike in the game between Real Madrid and Athletico madrid, this one lived up to expectations as both sides really went at each other with real determination but then experience prevailed over youth at the end.

On a day when the “elders” – the Buffons, the Bonuccis, the Chiellinis and the Alves of this world decided to show what stuff they are made of, the younger ones on the opposite side just could not find a way to break through the lines. And of course,there was a certain Higuain upfront who ensured that the efforts of the “elders” did not go in vain as he rocketed in two solid goals to make it a completely successful evening for the visitors.

A certain 33 year old Dani Alves who was “too old” for some myopic people in F.C. Barcelona once again proved himself to be an invaluable asset to his new team as he did not just play in the mid-field as against his usual right back position but also provided the assist for the much-needed opening goal. And if anyone thought that was spectacular enough, he did not.

He went on to provide what is usually described as an inch perfect delivery of an assist for the second goal. And to buttress how good this “young old” man is, this is now his sixth assist in this competion meaning that he is now even better than when he was at F.C. Barcelona where the highest assist he ever produced for them in the competition was five.

With this victory, many of us are beginningto get the feeling that we will be seeing a Real Madrid vs Juventus encounter in the final of this year’s European Champions’ League in Cardiff a few weeks from now. Of course anything can happen in football but with the clinical way Juventus F.C. have been playing for some time now, it is going to be a real uphill task for the so far brilliant F.C. Monaco to overturn this particular deficit.

It promises to be another explosive night at the Bernabeu Stadium tonight as the European Champions’ League version of ‘El-Classico’ takes place there between the home team Real Madrid and the visiting bitter city rivals Athletico Madrid in the first leg of the semi-final stage of this year’s competition.

Just over a week ago, a similar match took place between the home team and F.C. Barcelona at this same venue with the result going the way of the visiting bitter rivals from Catalona. This probably adds more pressure on the hosts for tonight’s game given that they are also the defending champions of this competition.

Add the fact that in the last LaLiga game played between these two teams at this same venue only some days back resulted in a draw and you can be sure that today’s match cannot be anything other than explosive.

And so what about the team news from both sides?

From the Madrid camp, the team will be missing the services of Gareth Bale who re-joined the list of the injured players after their match against F.C. Barcelona.

As for Athletico Madrid, they will be missing the services of influential defender Jose Gimenez who got injured in their very last match before this one. Juanfran is also likely to miss out on this match to make for more defensive headaches for the visitors.

Oh Yes, we are going to talk about another Nollywood Diva here after the Mercy Aigbe story as both have some similarities and differences. While Mercy dove into an unstable marriage, Yvonne has decided to wait for the right man and the right time. Wise Babe, I dare say.

However, I suspect she might just go the same way if in a few years’ time, the “right man” is still nowhere to be found. Now that we have talked about one difference between Mercy and herself, I am sure you are all waiting for the similarity, right?

Before then, let’s hear her opinion about why she is still single. This is what she had to say about the issue;

“The issue is men don’t have balls to come forward to ask me out because they think I am already hooked or perhaps I am very high maintenance”.

“Also, I may still be single because most people think celebrities are spoilt for choice when it comes to choosing partners but that is a very wrong perception”.

“A good number of celebs are single because they are confused as to who to accept in their life. You see, you are not sure if the person is coming in because of your fame and money or the person wants to be with you because of real love” she added.

“It is not about money but if a man is not brave enough to come forward then I do not think I want to be with such a person. Anyway, who wants to be with a timid man? She queried.

So Friends, what do you think about the statements above? What do they tell you about the Nollywood Diva? Is she right or not? Is she naive or not? Or is she on point?

Just like I analyzed in the article on Mercy Aigbe (read it here), our Nollywood Divas seem to need special seminars on how to get a good husband and I am very ready to help them out if only they will come out and say they need help.

Let’s just examine Yvonne’s opinion on her situation briefly here and now.

Is it really possible that all the men she has seen and met do not “have the balls” to walk up to her and ask here out? It is very clear here that she either has been meeting a very minute group of men and or going to the wrong places to relax.

Secondly, if a man refuses to talk to a woman, that does not make him a timid person? Intelligent men do not rush to talk to just about every woman they meet for the first time.

Thirdly, in this age of “equality of the sexes”, what stops Yvonne from taking the first step if she sees a man she likes?

Fourthly, who is to blame if she only knows joints in the Lekki Peninsula and similar places? Does she really expect a reasonable young man who works hard for his money to go to such places where a bottle of beer possibly costs 10 times more than what obtains at some other equally clean joints around Suru-Lere or Okota for an example?

I tell you friends, these our Nollywood Divas and their likes need special seminars on how to live a more realistic life. Life is not always what they act in the movies.

By the way like I mentioned in my article written just before this one, I am still very much available for any beautiful and intelligent one amongst these Divas who wish to marry an intelligent but not mega rich and definitely not a wife battering but handsome man.

It is no longer a secret that Mercy Aigbe’s marriage is seriously on the ropes as boxing enthusiasts will describe it. She was reportedly given a bashing of her life by her husband and even though he has come out to deny it, her own utterances has shown that some element of truth lies in the wife battering story.

A Nigerian Newspaper even went on to report that Mercy has taken the matter to the Lagos State Governor and stuff like that. Of what use is that supposed to be? Is he her father -in-law?

While as expected, a lot of women and other admirers of the Nollywood Diva have been pouring a lot of condemnation on her spouse – Lanre Gentry, some other dirty facts are leaking into the public domain about the whole relationship which seems to have started on a shaky foundation.

Gossip has it that Mercy was dating Lanre while he was still married to Bimbo Akinsanya who is another Nollywood Actress. She even got pregnant for lanre while he was still married to Bimbo. Is her case not that of Karma?

When asked about this fact, She was reportedly explained the whole thing this way “THERE IS NO PROBLEM BECAUSE MY LYALE (FIRST WIFE) BIMBO AKINSANYA DOESN’T EVEN LIVE IN NIGERIA. SHE LIVES IN THE US WITH HER KIDS, AND SHE HARDLY COMES AROUND. IN NIGERIA, I’M THE ONLY WIFE AND SHE IS LIKE A SENIOR AUNTY TO ME. IT IS PEOPLE OUTSIDE THAT CREATE PROBLEM, WHEN THERE IS NO PROBLEM. Of course, hers is just one of the many recent failed marriages of the Nollywood Divas and I am not about to start listing their names here. I am quite sure most people out there know enough about them.

The question however is this “When will these Nollywood Divas learn from other people’s mistakes instead of falling headlong into the same pit one after the other”?

Is there so much shortage of responsible men in Nigeria to the extent that they just must snatch another woman’s husband only to turn around and cry foul when their sins catch up with them?

Secondly, as someone who is financially stable, must they marry the so-called rich men in the society instead of looking for a serious but not rich young man to settle down with?

Are they telling Nigerians that they are just good at acting but are not intelligent enough to handle their private lives responsibly? I will definitely not be surprised if there are more drunken football fans in the Manchester area of the United Kingdom this evening. This is because after what both teams from the city put up as performances thia afternoon against teams that are struggling against relegation, I won’t blame any fan for having a difficult time going to sleep this evening.

I am not even talking yet about those who must have lost otherwise solid bets due to the results achieved by their darling teams this afternoon. I hope this bad feeling will not be extended to the wives and children at home as is usual in some African countries.

Manchester City played away to Middlesbrough and came out with a 2-2 draw courtesy a last-gap equaliser from the returning striker Gabriel Jesus. This is a match that presented them with a golden opportunity to leap-frog F.C. Liverpool into the much sought-after third place on the Premiership Table after watching their city rivals surprisingly fail to do so a few hours earlier.

I can imagine how they must have jubilated as a result of bitter rival’s 1-1 draw at home earlier on, only to almost get a worse result gainst a team they should on a normal day defeat conveniently.

It surely was a swet sweet night for British and Nigerian Boxing fans yesterday as the unbelievable feat was achieved by no other than the very foremost British heavy-weight boxer Anthony Joshua.

Joshua sent his fans home and abroad into a frenzy of jubilations as he retained his IBF heavyweight title and went on to add the WBA belt to his “belt cabinet” by sensationally knocking out now erstwhile WBA Champion Wladimir Klitschko in the 11th round of their heavyweight clash at Wembley yesternight.

Even as at the time he knocked out Klitschko, he was ahead on the judges card by 2 judges to one. Two ringside judges Don Trella and Nelson Vazquez had Anthony Joshua leading by scores of 96-93 and 95-93, respectively while Steve Weisfeld had Wladimir Klitschko ahead 95-93.

It was surely a wonderful evening for the F.C. Barcelona fans at the Camp Mou yesterday night as their darling team gave every reason to celebrate as “Mr. Ever Reliable” Lionel Messi led the team’s goals rampage on the defence of the hapless Osasuna F.C. to remain on top of the LaLiga Table.

The mercurial striker continued from where he stopped at the Bernabeu Stadium where he terrorized Real Madrid defenders to a “state of surrender”. And just like in that match, Mercurial Messi scored two delightful goals while his mates netted another five.

A huge banner had welcomed him to the stadium to commemorate his scoring his 500th goal in the game against Real Madrid at the Bernabeu Stadium. In this particular game, Messi scored his first goal in the 12th minute as Barcelona looked to continue to put on further pressure on Real Madrid in LaLiga’s title race. He scored his second in the 61st minute.

After the miriad of negative news flowing out of this country ranging from buried dollars to the Third Mainland “Jumping” Bridge and of course, the eternal feud between armed herdsmen and their host communities resulting in unfortunate deaths and casualties, one piece of good news finally “managed” to just squeeze itself out of Nigeria today as Nnamdi Kanu finally got a bail granted to him.

It all started on an unusual note right from the early hours of the day when a certain Governor Ayo Fayose (if you still do not know him, something is wrong somewhere with you, trust me) unexpectedly appeared in court for the day’s hearing of the Nnamdi Kanu case. Even though many people were taken unawares by this sudden appearance, those who know Governor Fayose’s antics quickly got over it.

And then came the bombshell later on as the Trial Justice Binta Nyako announced the decision to release the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu on bail based on health grounds.The bail conditions were however quite interesting as they were reeled out as follows;

Nnamdi Kanu is to produce three sureties. No problems there. But who are the sureties supposed to be?

I was humbly relaxing at a News Stand this morning “browsing” some newspapers alongside some other “regular” customers of the place when one young man suddenly blurted out the following sentence “This country (Nigeria) keeps making the headlines these days for the “wrongest” reasons.

Before I could try to piece together what he actually meant by that sentence, another person added his own voice by saying “Nna, I am not understanding this country anymore”.

At that point in time I decided to check what story they were talking about only to find out it was that of a woman who tried to jump into the Lagos Lagoon recently.

It was immediately clearer to me why the two gentlemen were that angry with the state of the nation as at this point in time. A day hardly passes by now without one hearing about one scandal or the other somewhere in Nigeria.

If a doctor is not jumping into the Lagos Lagoon, some millions of illicit dollars are being found “relaxing” in a house that suddenly has become “ownerless” overnight. When you try getting over that, another set of stolen or “padded” monies in various international currencies are being found in an underground and well ventilated “bunker” and so on.

Lest I forget, the woman in question in that newspaper article was actually reported to have tried to jump into the Lagos Lagoon from the same Third Mainland Bridge where the now Late Doctor Allwell Orji did his own fatal jump a few weeks back. This time around however, the Police somehow rescued this lady before she could take the plunge.

The name Serena Williams is surely one that appears more often on the pages of newspapers and the internet ever more often these days especially from the day we got to know that she is pregnant.

One area that people are not confident to discuss about her is that of motherhood. Is she going to be a good mother to her unborn child or not?

If you are a fan of good football and you managed to miss the match between Real Madrid and F.C. Barcelona yesterday at the Bernabeu, then you better go and get a video of the game and watch it.

That match was simply something else. Those who renamed such matches as the “El-Classico” surely know what they are doing. What a pulsating ninety minutes of “passionate” football!

As for the F.C. Barcelona fans, I am quite sure many of them will still be sleeping as I write this piece because of all the partying that must have taken place last night. It surely was a beautiful evening for them as they watched their team beat the European Champions right at their own backyard with the “Merciless” Messi once again a decisive factor in that wonderful game.

Who would have confidently placed a bet on Barca winning that game? What with their uncharacteristic dismal performances over a period of some two weeks before? What with the “N” missing in the “MSN” formation for Barcelona while the earlier missing “B” was back to the “BBC” formation for Real Madrid? A lot of factors pointed in the direction of a confident win for the home team.

But then as always with F.C. Barcelona this season in particular, they seem to pick which matches “must be won”. Can one imagine that a more complete team only some two weeks back got well thrashed by a certain Malaga in the LaLiga? No disrepect meant to Malaga please.

Success they say, surely attracts a whole lot of sudden attraction and turns people to stars overnight. That is exactly what is playing out with Juventus star defender Leonardo Bonucci right now. All of a sudden, every big club ranging from Real Madrid to Manchester United now want to sign him overnight.

As for Real Madrid’s interest in the defender, It is somewhat understood. After all, this dude helped knock out their bitter LaLiga and European Champions League rivals – F.C. Barcelona just a few days ago. This is possibly a way of saying “Thank You” to the Juve man.

But how does one explain the interest of a club like Manchester United? Are they suddenly aware of this star defender just because he performed well against F.C. Barcelona in two matches? Is that their own method of scouting for good players? What if Juventus had been knocked out by Barcelona? Would they have been hunting for Bonucci’s signature now? I guess not.

For the ardent football followers, it is no news that F.C. Barcelona and Arsenal F.C. not only seem to play the same brand of football but have some sort of working relationship between them especially when it comes to transfer of players. There have been quite a few and of recent, it was Alexis Sachez that was involved.

Sanchez has so impressed at the Emirates that the recent rumours of his wanting to move elsewhere has naturally made Manager Arsene Wenger and of course, the fans quite jittery. This must have led to the Manager’s secret scout for a replacement which seems to have worked out for him if the rumours going round are to be believed.

They seem to be saying that it is not true that she is pregnant and went on to argue how a pregnant lady at her age could have played the way she did at the Australian Open in January to the extent of winning that title so comfortably that she never even dropped a set enroute to capturing the title.

It was a highly tense match yesterday as F.C. Manchester United hosted F.C. Anderlecht in a return leg game of the Europa League quarter-finals at the Old Trafford.

The first leg had ended in a comfortable 1-1 draw for Manchester United who were expected to simply roll over the Belgian team at home in front of their home fans only for the match to turn into a really nerve-racking event especially for the home fans.

It would sure have been difficult before the game for anyone except the Belgians to predict what happened at the Old Trafford as the match had to go into extra time to produce a winner at the end. Fortunately for the home team, Marcus Rashford ended the misery in style as he scored the decisive goal of the encounter.

Before then however and just like in the first leg away in Belgium, Henrikh Mkhitaryan had scored the first goal of the match for Manchester United to set the stadium agog with jubilation and high expectations. This feeling of euphoria was however later on dampened as Anderlecht captain Sofiane Hanni hit back before the break with a goal of his own.

As F.C. Barcelona file out against Juventus in the return leg of their 2017 European Champions’ League quarter-final tie at the Nou Camp, one thing is almost sure. The result WILL be disputed by those who are still hurting from the game played yesterday between Real Madrid and Bayern Munich and also those unhappy with the result of the game played at this same venue between F.C. Barcelona and Paris St. Germain of France.

The positive side of the up-coming game however is that there will surely be a solid display of good football from both sides as they both have some of the best players in the European soccer arena despite the fact that the home team will be struggling to over-turn a 3-0 goal deficit from the first leg. Or just maybe because of that fact.

F.C. Barcelona will surely need something close to a miracle to be able to progress to the next stage of this competition not just because they will be playing against a very compact Juventus team but more so because the visitors are aware of what their hosts did to PSG at this same venue just a few weeks back and will be better prepared mentally to avoid such a situation happening to them.

Oh Ye! It is getting weirder by the day as very important soccer matches are drawing serious controversies every now and then. The other time it was all about how F.C. Barcelona were “helped” by controversial decisions made by the center referee as they broke an European Champions’ League record by over-turning a 0-4 first leg deficit against Paris St. Germain at the Camp Nou.

This time around, it is Real Madrid on the hot seat as many people including Arjen Robben, Ancelloti, Gerald Pique and others feel that the defending champions of the Competition got one or two “illegal assists” from the referees as they finally overcame a very stubborn Bayern Munich team at the Bernabeu Stadium in Madrid yesterday evening.

The occasion was the second leg tie of the quarter-finals of the 2017 European Champions League Competition. With F.C. Real Madrid having won the first leg by two goals to one away from home, the visitors needed to beat the home team by at least two goals difference.

As fate would have it, F.C. Bayern Munich were leading by two goals to one in the second half when the drama that turned the game on its head started.

It was surely a sweet, sweet evening not just for Real Madrid and their fans all over the world yesterday but also a very special one for Cristiano Ronaldo alias CR7 as he created a record for himself in the history of the European Champions League Competition.

It is not too much to say Cristiano Ronaldo single-handedly defeated F.C. Bayern Munich in the quarter-final stage of this elite soccer competition in Europe as the Portugal National Team Captain scored FIVE GOALS over the two legs against no other team than the famous F.C. Bayern Munich.

That feat also brought him the enviable record of becoming the first player to score 100 goals in the European Champions League Competition. What a feat and what a night for Cristiano Ronaldo!

During the pre-match interviews and discussions, most people were more concerned about the return of Robert Lewandowski to the Bayern attacking formation and how much difference this was going to make to the game eventually.

Yesterday we featured an article on the issue of a #4Billion loot found in a house in Niger State by the EFCC in Nigeria with the owner still on the run. Today, we have another one of course as has been the case for some days now.

This time around, we have a case in Lagos. Lagos as we all know is the richest state in Nigeria in terms of commerce and so it should not surprise anyone that the amount of loot involved in this particular case is somewhat mind-boggling – 38 million Dollars, 23 million Naira and another 27,000 Pounds, from an apartment in the Ikoyi area of Lagos state.

That in a state that has just rendered some people homeless a few days back without batting an eye. Of course the state government is less concerned about the looters who live in big mansions that are better fenced than the prisons. They prefer to concentrate on “cleaning” up Lagos by ejecting the ordinary citizens who have no access to loot huge sums of money and buy themselves “loot mansions”.

By the way, this particular “loot mansion” was built by an Israeli construction company which listed the owner as the former chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Adamu Muazu. As to be expected in such cases, the supposed owner has denied ownership of the property.

Now the question is “Who is the owner of this “Loot Mansion”? Secondly, who between the Israeli construction company and Adamu Muazu is lying to the public as regards the ownership of the building?

Many of you have already heard about the maltreatment dealt out to a passenger by the United Airlines yesterday and so I am not going into all that. What I wish to do in this article is point out lessons the United Airlines could have learnt and should learn from the experience by applying “Nigerian Solutions” to such problems.

Here in Nigeria, you may have your baggage come two weeks after you arrived at your destination with one or two items missing from its original content or you may eventually board the plane three days after you were supposed to do so. That is after sleeping on the “comfortable” floor of the Air-port all those days in between.

But have an over-booked passenger Air-craft? No, that is forbidden here. The more the better as far as we are concerned in such situations? Have the Americans not heard about “Attachment Seats”? All they needed to do was to “improvise” by adding such seats just like you will find in Nigerian “Luxurious” Buses especially on night journeys.

Simply cut the cost of the ticket by half or thereabout and get the passenger somehow to his or her destination. That way, there would be no scandal raging for two days running now.

Life seems to be getting real hot these days in Europe with bomb blasts every now and then in virtually every major city of the continent. Before now however, soccer players and stadiums have largely been spared of this evil.

Well, that seems to have come to an end today as a bomb blast near the bus conveying the players of Borussia Dortmund to their home stadium in preparation for this evening’s planned 2017 European Champions’ League quarterfinal first-leg match against French club Monaco, not only hit the vehicle but it was so bad that a player of the team, Marc Bartra was injured and had to be taken to a hospital.
