SportsChelsea Might Just Become Unstoppable Says Mauricio Pochettino by uneeking(op): 5:10am On Jan 31, 2017
The next two matches involving F.C. Chelsea may just determine whether the team becomes run-away winners of the Premiership Title according to Tottenham Hotspurs Manager Mauricio Pochettino .

Chelsea play against fourth-placed Liverpool away at Anfield on Tuesday before the much awaited match-up against their closest rivals F.C. Arsenal, who are eight points behind them, at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.

Undoutedly, Chelsea can be considered run-away leaders if they as much as garner anything from four points from both tough fixtures.

“If they win both games it will be difficult to stop them,” said Pochettino.

“We need to be focused on our game. The most important thing is to get the three points for us. And of course we could even be closer to Chelsea then.”

Pochettino however wants his players to remain focused on their own games against Sunderland on Tuesday and Middlesbrough five days later.

SportsAdam Lallana Named 2016 Player Of The Year In England by uneeking(op): 6:23pm On Jan 30, 2017
The 2016 England player of the year has been named and he is no other than F.C. Liverpool’s mid-fielder Adam Lallana who polled 39 per cent of the vote from members of the England Supporters Club. He therefore succeeds Wayne Rooney who won the title the year before.

Second with 12 per cent is Leicester City’s striker Jamie Vardy while the former holder Wayne Rooney got eight per cent of votes as he fell short of scooping the award for a third consecutive year.

Despite England’s poor Euro 2016 campaign, Lallana’s performances provided one of the few areas of encouragement.

Despite unrest in the dugout, with Gareth Southgate coming in as manager at the end of Sam Allardyce’s short-lived reign, Adam Lallana impressed for the Three Lions – netting a last-gasp winner in their opening World Cup qualifier against Slovakia before scoring in the back-to-back November matches with Scotland and Spain.

“This award is a huge honour,” the former Southampton playmaker told the Football Association’s official website. “The last three winners were Rooney, Rooney and Steven Gerrard so that just goes to show what a great achievement this is.

“Things have been going well this season for my club so that always helps. When you’re playing well for your club then hopefully you can transmit your form into the national team and help out.

Nairaland GeneralReal Madrid Mauls Real Sociedad 3-0 At The Bernabeu by uneeking(op): 5:59am On Jan 30, 2017
Despite the fact that their fans were not exactly as supportive as they used to be, Real Madrid successfully defeated a 10-man Real Sociedad to reassert their grip on LaLiga’s title race with a 3-0 victory.

Just one win in five matches across all competitions before this match, and getting thrown out of the Copa Del Rey by Celta Vigo had resulted in the barracking from the stands for the league leaders, with captain Sergio Ramos and Cristiano Ronaldo sounding pre-match calls for unity.

The calls fell on deaf ears and dropped points for nearest rivals Barcelona and Sevilla earlier on Sunday did nothing to help bring about a feel-good factor in the capital, as the visitors began with the confidence expected of a side boasting eight wins from their past 11 league outings.

Cristiano Ronaldo was forced to shrug off further cat calls before setting up Mateo Kovacic for his first Liga goal of the season in delightful fashion.

It was then the other way round in the 51st minute when Ronaldo produced a finish to match an assist of the highest quality.

Inigo Martinez earned a second booking that had been very much on the cards 16 minutes from time, leaving substitute Alvaro Morata to confirm a four-point lead at the summit.

Nairaland GeneralSergio Ramos’ Appeal To Real Madrid Fans by uneeking(op): 5:20am On Jan 29, 2017
Sergio Ramos has sent out a call to the fans at Santiago Bernabeu to unite behind Real Madrid as the LaLiga leaders try to get back to top form against Real Sociedad on Sunday.

The Madrid fans have become increasingly unhappy with their team’s performance over recent weeks, with four-time Ballon d’Or winner Cristiano Ronaldo among those to feel their wrath, during a run of one win in five across all competitions.

With their Spanish record 40-match unbeaten run at an end, the slump hit a low point when Wednesday’s 2-2 draw at Celta Vigo meant Copa del Rey elimination at the quarter-final stage.

Real Madrid is presently one and two points ahead of Sevilla and Barcelona respectively at the top of the league table, meaning they are likely to have ceded the summit by the time they kick-off in this weekend’s concluding match.

Nairaland GeneralFearless Welbeck Back For Arsenal by uneeking(op): 6:03am On Jan 28, 2017
Arsenal’s Danny Welbeck who has been plagued with a series of injuries of late is on the verge of a come-back to the team as manager Arsene Wenger praised him for showing no fear on his return from a knee injury, and he prepares for a possible start against Southampton this week-end.

26 year old Danny Welbeck has been sidelined since May 2016 with a knee injury which had to be operated upon. He is now ready for a competitive return to the squad.

The chances of Welbeck starting in the FA Cup on Saturday are quite bright as Wenger lauded him for his approach on a comeback.

“He has a chance to start or to come on, yes. He looks sharp, he’s worked very hard. Maybe it will be an opportunity for him,” he said.

“At his age and in his position he was sure to go to the European Championship. What happened to him was unbelievable and he was down for a while, but now he looks to have recovered.

Nairaland GeneralDiego Simeone – “you Have To Beat The Best” by uneeking(op): 7:34pm On Jan 27, 2017
In reaction to the news that his team has been drawn to face F.C. Barcelona at the semi-final stage of the Spanish Cup, manager of F.C. Athletico Diego Simeone has challenged Atleti to prove themselves as worthy Copa del Rey winners by beating Barcelona in the last four.

F.C. Barca have won the last two Copa ties with the 2013 winners but Atletico Madrid have emerged victorious on the last two occasions they have met in the semis, which includes a 6-0 aggregate win in 1999-2000, when the Catalans forfeited the second leg over a dispute with the Spanish Football Federation.

Diego Simeone does not see it as anything special for his team to have to face Barca at this stage of a major competition and wants his players to show they are of the same calibre as Luis Enrique’s side.

“I value it as a semi-final and it’s normal to face these against major teams, we’re used to that,” he told a news conference on Friday.

Nairaland GeneralF.C. Manchester United In EFL Cup Final by uneeking(op): 5:01am On Jan 27, 2017
The most criticised Manchester United player of late, Paul Pogba scored the goal that secured his teams place in the EFL Cup final despite Jose Mourinho’s side suffering a 2-1 defeat to Hull City on Thursday with United advancing on a 3-2 aggregate.

Hull City who had not scored a single goal in four matches against Manchester United got themselves in front when Tom Huddlestone put them ahead from the penalty spot late in the first half.

The midfielder scored his first goal of the season as he beat David De Gea from 12 yards after a foul had been given against United defender Marcos Rojo from a Hull corner.

Surprisingly, Hull City had the better of the match on the whole, but then the world’s most expensive footballer stood up and proved the difference. Paul Pogba found the bottom corner after a neat build-up play created a clear sight of goal, although Oumar Niasse set up a grandstand finish with a late goal.

Nairaland GeneralLatest Team News For F.C. M Anchester United Before Hull City Game by uneeking(op): 6:45pm On Jan 26, 2017
Early team news for Hull City v United

Jose Mourinho has happily told MUTV that “everybody is available” for selection ahead of Manchester United’s EFL Cup semi-final, second leg at Hull City on Thursday night.

That does not include Eric Bailly, of course, given that he has been in Gabon on international duty with Ivory Coat. However, the boss confirmed his summer signing is now on his way back to the Aon Training Complex after the Elephants were knocked out of the competition at the group stage on Tuesday night.

“Everybody is available,” Mourinho told MUTV. “Bailly didn’t arrive yet but his national team had a defeat yesterday and are knocked out of the competition, so he is coming back. In this moment everybody is available and my choices will be to try to go with a team that I think can guarantee us a good match.”

The boss later affirmed in his press conference that “Marcos Rojo is back” after missing the 1-1 Premier League draw at Stoke City due to illness. The in-form Argentinian defender was pictured at the Aon Training Complex on Tuesday.

Nairaland GeneralSouthampton Sends Liverpool Packing From EFL Cup by uneeking(op): 5:25am On Jan 26, 2017
For the very first time in his career as a Manager, Jurgen Klopplost a semi-final cup match as his team Liverpool F.C. were sent packing from the EFL Cup competition by Southampton F.C. at the Anfield Stadium last night. Shane Long was the hero this time around as he scored in the 91st minute forthe saints.

F.c Liverpool earlier had shouts for a late penalty ignored by referee Martin Atkinson after a duel between Jack Stephens and Divock Origi before Shane Long who came in as a substitute decided the encounter just moments later with a very cool finish.

It must be noted that F.C. Liverpool have won just one of their previous six outings this calendar year – a 1-0 FA Cup win over League Two side Plymouth Argyle – and they knew they were in for a very serious task at the Anfield following the 1-0 setback from the reverse fixture, a single strike from Nathan Redmond the difference at St. Mary’s.

Nairaland GeneralAnother F.C. Manchester United’s Youngster Close To Debut by uneeking(op): 7:52pm On Jan 25, 2017
Does the name “Axel Tuanzebe” ring a bell to anyone reading this piece? I bet No. Unless of course you are Jose Mourinho, any of the Manchester United players, officials or very close associates and home fans.
However, that is going to change very soon if the words of Manager Jose Mourinho are anything to go by.
The Manager says Manchester United youngster Axel Tuanzebe could be a beneficiary of Memphis Depay and Morgan Schneiderlin’s January departures.

Depay moved to F.C. Lyon in France while Morgan Schneiderlin joined Everton this month, thereby paving way for Manchester United to bring in some new faces ahead of a busy run of fixtures.

Mourinho has given Tuanzebe, a defender, the chance to be involved in first-team training and thinks the 19-year-old is close to making his breakthrough.

Axel Tuanzebe is yet to make his United debut, but did make the substitutes’ bench twice for Premier League matches in 2015.

Nairaland GeneralIvan Rakitic Dreams Of A Career-long Stay At F.C. Barcelona by uneeking(op): 12:15pm On Jan 24, 2017
Ivan Rakitic will prefer to stay at F.C. Barcelona “for ever” if everything depended on his choice as negotiations over a new contract for the Croatia midfielder at Camp Nou continue.

The F.C. Barcelona mid-fielder was reportedly the subject of interest from Manchester City earlier in the month after losing his place in Barca Manager Luis Enrique’s first XI.

Rakitic must however have been real surprised and encouraged by the rapturous applause the Barca fans gave to him when he came on as a substitute at Camp Nou during recent wins over Athletic Bilbao and Las Palmas before regaining his place in the starting line-up for the Copa del Rey trip to Real Sociedad and Sunday’s win at Eibar.

With Andres Iniesta and Sergio Busquets sidelined through injuries only recently, Ivan Rakitic’s role during the immediate defence of their domestic double is now ever far more important.

Speaking after he was named best team player at Mundo Deportivo’s annual awards gala, the 28-year-old former Sevilla man said: “My dream is to stay here for ever.

Nairaland GeneralAlgeria Bows Out Of AFCON Despite Slimani’s Brace by uneeking(op): 5:32am On Jan 24, 2017
Despite the efforts of striker Islam Slimani who scored a goal in each half, Algeria’s Africa Cup of Nations campaign came to a close without a win as they drew 2-2 with an already qualified Senegalese squad in Franceville.

The Algerians went into this game knowing that only an outright victory and a shock win for Zimbabwe over Tunisia would qualify them for the quarter[final stage of the tournament.

The Senegalese team – already qualified for a mouthwatering quarter-final against the Cameroonian team at the same ground on Saturday – made ten changes but the Algerians surprisingly just could not find their way through to getting a win out of this encounter.

Slimani goals were effectively cancelled by Papakouli Diop and Moussa Sow. The Leicester hit-man’s angry expression when he was substituted late on neatly showcased a tournament of wasteful underachievement for his country in Gabon.

Nairaland GeneralPdp’s Opinion Of The Southern Kaduna Killings by uneeking(op): 4:43am On Jan 24, 2017
This is a press statement released and signed by Prince Dayo Adeyeye, the National Publicity Secretary of People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
We condemn in totality the statement credited to the Senior Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity (SSA), Garba Shehu, on Channels Television today, Monday, January 23, 2017 wherein he shamelessly alledged that the killings in Southern Kaduna is partly the fault of the PDP because it is the only Senatorial District in the North West with PDP Senator. How sad!

2. We are baffled that such a callous, irresponsible and insensitive statement could come from a person who speaks for the President of Nigeria. This shows the extent to which every issue in the Country today is viewed from the APC’s and the Presidency’s extremely narrow and jaundiced partisan political prism.

3. Is Garba Shehu inferring that the hapless people of southern Kaduna were singled out for genocide because they elected a PDP senator? Or that the People invited such mindless violence upon themselves by choosing to be different in a sea of APC domination? Or is the Southern Kaduna massacre really an action to teach the people a bitter lesson for voting PDP and not APC? It is really unimaginable that any reasonable person can make such a reckless statement.

Nairaland GeneralBola Tinubu’s Plane Used To Fly Off Jammeh Out Of Gambia by uneeking(op): 3:32pm On Jan 23, 2017
Indications have emerged that a plane belonging to the National Leader of All Progressives Congress ,APC, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu was used to fly ex-Gambian President, Mr. Yahaya Jammeh out of the country.
It was learnt that the gesture was in furtherance of the reconciliatory efforts of the Economic Community of West African States, ECOWAS, in the country where Jammeh’s refusal to relinquish power led to political crisis.

It was learnt that upon being contacted for the use of the aircraft, Tinubu, who was in Conakry at that time, agreed on condition that it should only be used for the purpose in order to restore peace and democracy in the country.

The VP-CBT Falcon jet, which had been with Guinean President, Alpa Conde for days, was stationed in Banjul to ferry Jammeh out of the country after 22 years in power.

We further gathered that Tinubu is a personal friend of President Conde. Conde and Mauritania’s President Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz had spent much of Friday in Banjul persuading Jammeh to leave power.

Nairaland GeneralBusquets Never Easy To Replace – Luis Suarez by uneeking(op): 12:18pm On Jan 23, 2017
As far as Luis Suarez is concerned, Sergio Busquets will be very difficult to replace at F.C. Barcelona.

The injury that removed the hard-working Barcelona mid-fielder made it difficult for the Barca players and fans to properly celebrate the 4-0 routing of F.C. Eibar in LaLiga on Sunday.

Busquets was forced to leave the field in the 10th minute following a rash tackle from Gonzalo Escalante, with the Spain international suffering a sprained external lateral ligament in his right ankle.

Sergio Busquets’ injury has worsened the mid-field situation at F.C. Barcelona with the fact that the team captain Andreas Iniesta is already down with a calf injury and missed out on the Eibar trip.

“We know that Sergio is a very important team-mate and that he also helps us a lot to control the ball,” said the Uruguay international.

Nairaland GeneralMSN Shoot F.C. Barcelona To Vicory Over Eibar F.C. by uneeking(op): 6:31am On Jan 23, 2017
F.C. Barcelona continued to pile pressure on the league leaders Real Madrid through an emphatic win at Eibar late Sunday night despite losing mid-field maestro Sergio Busquets to injury very early in the game.

The MSN were the usual culprits as usual as they combined to earn the team a 4-0 win at Eibar in a LaLiga game although the first blood was drawn through Denis Suarez – who was able to celebrate his first goal for the club having replaced the Spain international.

The MSN then took the center stage as soon as the second half began as if they had agreed in the dressing room to do just that. It began with the most familiar face of the trio Lionel Messi who continued his solid recent form with his 28th goal of the season five minutes into the second half.

Next on the MSN list was Luis Suarez who capitalised on a dreadful mistake from Florian Lejeune to make it his 19th for the on-going campaign.

Nairaland GeneralRooney Applauded By National Team Manager Gareth Southgate by uneeking(op): 5:24am On Jan 22, 2017
Wayne Rooney was described as “outstanding” by his “other boss” Gareth Southgate, the England National Team Manager after the latter broke Manchester United’s all-time goalscoring record on Saturday.

The match between Stoke City and Manchester United was thought to have been over until the 94th minute when Stoke committed a foul whch resulted in a free-kick being awarded to Manchester United. Captain Wayne Rooney stepped up to take the kick and in the manner of some of the greatest players in the world, artistically put the ball well beyond the wall and the reach of the struggling Stoke goal-keeper to score what can be described as a wonder goal. The goal was not just any another goal but a “face-saving” one for Manchester United more impotantly for Wayne Rooney personally, a record-breaking goal as it was enough to move him beyond Bobby Charlton onto 250 goals for the Old Trafford club.

Nairaland GeneralAntonio Conte Has Complete Trust In Diego Costa by uneeking(op): 5:45am On Jan 21, 2017
Diego Costa is one player that Chelsea Manager Antonio Conte trusts a hundred percent and expects to perform at a high level as the Premier League leaders prepare to take on Hull City.

Diego Costa was not featured in last weekend’s 3-0 victory at Leicester City due to a reported disagreement over a back injury, and then some talk of a move to China making the rounds.

Diego Costa has now returned to the match squad for Sunday’s encounter though, and Antonio Conte has no doubt the prolific striker is solely focused on Chelsea.

Nairaland GeneralPogba Is An Amazing Player – De Gea by uneeking(op): 5:14am On Jan 21, 2017
Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea is very confident that midfielder Paul Pogba will surely bounce back from his weak performance against Liverpool F.C.
This is coming on the heels of lots of criticisms about the French international’s performance in the draw game in their last game where Paul Pogba inadvertentlygave away a penalty by handling the ball in an aerial contest inside the ManU box.
The Manchester United goal-keeper said he was very sure of the fact that the world-record signing Paul Pogba will put his critics to shame in the up-coming games citing the fact that he also had to struggle at the beginning of his coming to the club before finally settling down to hold his own.

Nairaland GeneralF.C. Barcelona Beats Real Sociedad In Away Copa Del Rey Match by uneeking(op): 6:52am On Jan 20, 2017
F.C. Barcelona stunned the F.C. Real Madrid fans as they narrowly defeated the hosts by a lone goal scored by Neymar in a rare win at the Sociedad stadium.

The last time F.C. Barcelona managed a win at Real Sociedad was way back in 2007 and have failed to win any of their last eight matches away to the hosts as the Basque had till now proved to be a negative hunting ground for the Catalan Giants.

As one would expect, the ice was broken by one of the “MSN Brothers”. However, it was not the usual suspect Lionel Messi but Neymar Jnr. that did the damage this time around. The dimunitive Brazillian striker not only won himself a penalty-kick but also went on to convert it into a much neede goal himself on the night.

SportsLionel Messi Staying Put In Barcelona – Messi’s Father by uneeking(op): 8:21pm On Jan 19, 2017
If the words of Lionel Messi’s father are anything to go by, then the F.C. Barcelona’s management and fans can go to sleep with both eyes closed as far as Messi remaining in the club is concerned. Messi Snr. has assured that there is no danger of his son leaving F.C. Barcelona for now.

It is no secret that Lionel Messi’s contract expires at the end of next season and there are enough conflicting reports over a lack of talks with the club about a renewal thereby casting doubt over whether he will remain at Camp Nou.

The Argentinian National Team Captain was quoted as telling Coach magazine that he would stay at Barca for “as long as they want me”, only for the publication to remove the interview after the 29-year-old’s management team claimed that it had never taken place.

The incident took place only a week after Pere Gratacos was removed from his position as director of institutional relations at Barca, following comments in which he suggested that Messi would not be as effective without certain team-mates.

Paul Pogba is very much capable ofhandling the pressures he is facing rightnow in his debut season at Manchester United, says co-debutant Zlatan Ibrahimovich.

The statement came after the myriad of attacks on Pogba’s performance in United’s drawn game against F.C.Liverpool in which he conceded the penalty that put the visitors ahead at the Old Trafford Arena.

Paul Pogba who came to Manchester United from Juventus for a world-record transfer fee handled the ball in the penalty area thereby giving James Milner the opportunity to convert the resultant penalty-kick to give Liverpool the lead before Zlatan Ibrahimovich levelled the scores much later on.

Nairaland GeneralUneekomunikations – F.C. Sevilla Ends Real Madrid’s Unbeaten Run In Style by uneeking(op): 6:02am On Jan 16, 2017
F.C. Sevilla ended Real Madrid’s 40-match unbeaten run as they defeated the European Champions 2-1 in an exciting La Liga match on Sunday.

The game had looked like another victorious one for Real Madrid until the closing stages when F.C. Sevilla suddenly came to life to steal the three points in a thrilling manner.

Both teams were playing against each other for the second time in four days after the first tie had ended in a thrilling 3-3 draw at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan.

Real Madrid F.C. had taken the lead earlier through Cristiano Ronaldo midway through the second period with a coolly taken penalty – his 21st goal in just 13 appearances against Sevilla.

The build-up to this fixture saw the clubs involved in a spat surrounding Sevilla fans’ treatment of Sergio Ramos during the Copa clash, and the home fans will have taken delight in the Madrid captain heading past his own goalkeeper to level matters.

The recent release from a British prison of a former Governor of Delta State, Chief James Ibori has since it happened last month attracted comments from across the nation. While many especially Deltans were happy about the development, analysts from other parts of Nigeria were virtually disgusted over what they saw as a sheepish people turning an ex-convict into their hero.
Many of my avid readers and friends have wondered aloud why I made no comment on the subject. I must confess that for once I found a topic that I was not quite comfortable with because I couldn’t agree with the idea of eulogizing the former governor in view of what he was alleged to have done just as I couldn’t agree with those who felt that his release was not worth celebrating by those whose lives he touched.
Luckily, in my visit to Asaba last week, I was well entertained by an interesting debate between some politicians who were on the opposite sides of the divide. Chief James Ibori The anti-Ibori side threw the first jab that it was awkward of the pro-Ibori group to celebrate a common criminal who confessed to his crime and duly served his jail term in full.

They argued that it was a shame that people were celebrating those who embezzled state finances which has largely contributed to our increased unemployment rate in the country, lack of healthcare services, deteriorating educational standards standard and disastrous democracy among other challenges. If such a situation continued, they imagined that our country would end up without values.
Perhaps because of the numerical strength of Ibori’s admirers which tripled the adversaries, the voices of the latter were quickly drowned making it easy for the pro-Ibori group to marshal their points for hours without stop. First, they warned against the erroneous posture that Ibori was the worst Nigerian ex-governor in a nation where every governor turns out to be richer than his state.
They recalled what happened in 2015, when Senator Bernabas Gemade, a former National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) had to decamp from his party so as to qualify to contest the coming elections. His challenge according to the story was that the governor he nurtured having become more viable.
