News just reaching our Desk has it that a shooting incident in an Elementary School in California has claimed some lives.

Two adults are reported dead and two students were injured in a shooting at an elementary school in San Bernardino, according to San Bernardino police. The injured students have been evacuated to a hospital.

San Bernardino Police Chief Jarrod Burguan has confirmed that the shooting was a murder-suicide and happened inside a classroom at North Park Elementary school in the 5300 block of North H Street.

Giwa Football Club successfully failed once again to up-turn its expulsion from the Nigerian Professional Football League as the Court of Appeal, Jos Division, struck out the order of the High Court of Plateau State directing the League Management Company (LMC) to compulsorily re-instate it to the national league.

The Jos-based club had been sent packing from the NPFL for on so many occasions breaking the Rules and Framework of the League in the 2015/16 season.

The Court of Appeal in Jos consolidated the three appeals and delivered judgment read by Hon. Justice H. O. A Abiru, ruling on the first, that Kunda lacked the competence to order for Giwa’s re-instatement into the NPFL.

Abubakar Shekau’s faction of Boko Haram has released another video showing signs of desperation as a consequence of on-going military action.

Some villagers are also seen in the video being whipped for either having in their possession hard drugs and alcohol or consuming it in the areas probably under their control in Sambisa and environs.

The video only showed a speaker preacher ranting about the Nigerian government surrounded by gunmen and a crowd apparently of villagers held hostage chanting in agreement at intervals.

Apostle Johnson Suleman of the Omega Fire Ministries,OFM, has lashed out at Prophet T.B Joshua of the Synagogue Church of All Nations.

In a video circulating online, the fiery Auchi-based preacher said Joshua was too small to have allowed some people ridicule the General Overseer, Worldwide, of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, RCCG, Enoch Adeboye and the late Archbishop Benson Idahosa in his church without any reaction from him.

Suleman’s attack was in response to Dr Azuh Mary Ifeoma, who while giving a testimony in SCOAN mentioned some of the above names including Suleman in a disparaging way.

F.C. Barcelona and its Management has been advised to find a way to quickly tie down Lionel Messi to a new contract as soon as possible by no other personality than the great Xavi himself. The Barca idol believes that a deal should be reached earlier than later.

With Messi’s existing contract due to expire at the end of the 2017-18 campaign and no agreement over a renewal yet reached, Xavi thinks the issue should be laid to rest as fast as possible.

A President becomes a Prisoner in South Korea. Can that ever happen in Nigeria?

In an unprecedented move yesterday 30th March, 2017, the immediate Past President of South Korea Park Geun-hye was arrested and jailed over the corruption allegations that has for some weeks now made life miserable for her and her family members as well as her supporters across the nation.

What a contrast this is when we take a look at the Nigerian situation. Here in Nigeria, it is usually the other way round as Prisoners become Presidents and corrupt practices of the nature that Park Geun-hye is being charged for, takes place almost daily without anyone batting an eye talk-less of there being a chance of a President going to jail for such abuses of office.

This of course is one of the major reasons why a well endowed nation like Nigeria is currently wallowing in recession while a few individuals in the same country are rich enough to bankroll the needs of some the states.

The question that naturally comes to mind is “When will Nigeria get it right enough to have corrupt elements in government brought to book as smoothly as what has just taken in South Korea”?

The answer to this and a whole lot of other questions will surely determine the direction the country heads to in the next few years to come.

It was a worrying sight as China’s Shanghai Shenhua football club’s home stadium caught fire early on Tuesday. Luckily however, there were no casualties and the blaze was put out by mid-morning, our correspondents gathered.

The Shanghai city government said on its official blog that the cause of the blaze at the Hongkou Football Stadium was unknown and still being investigated.

The inferno had luckily not affected the stands or the pitch according to the State news agency Xinhua.

It will be recalled that the Chinese Super League team has spent heavily to sign high-profile players in recent months.

Only last December, Carlos Tevez signed a two-year deal for a reported 84 million euros ($91.22 million) while Senegalese striker Demba Ba, Nigerian forward Obafemi Martins and Colombian midfielder Fredy Guarin are all also on the club’s payroll.

Gus Poyet was appointed as manager last year but the club could only finish fourth last season, 16 points behind champions Guangzhou Evergrande.

The Nigerian Senate President Bukola Saraki, in a post shared on his Facebook page, insisted that he has nothing to do with the imported Range Rover Bulletproof SUV that he has been linked with.

Nigeria had to come back from a goal down to hold the Senegalese Senior Soccer National Team to a 1-1 draw in a pulsating friendly march played yesterday night in London.

Once again, it was Kelechi Iheanacho who came ti his country’s rescue as he scored from the penalty spot at the tail end of the game. However, he had earlier in the match wasted some opportunities to score before the penalty award came the way of Nigeria.

Senegalese player Moussa Sow had put the Lions in front in the 54th minute and for a good part of the game, it actually looked like Nigeria’s Coach Genort Rohr’s unbeaten run will come to an end in London but then Iheanacho finally came to the rescue.

Ever since F.C. Barcelona sold out Dani Alves to Juventus F.C., life at the right full back position has never remained the same despite the good job a “make-shift right full back” Sergio Roberts does in that position. When Monks who are considered “Holy” people start stealing phones, who can anyone trust these days?

Just recently, two men dressed up as Buddhist monks used their disguise to steal a mobile phone. The pair had walked into a rice shop in southern Thailand decked out in their orange robes and asked to speak to the owner.

Since it is a common feature for religious men to visit homes and businesses seeking donations, so their request was not out of the ordinary. A shop attendant went to find owner Orati Kongmum, who was upstairs getting the air conditioning repaired.

Yesterday (Sunday 19th March, 2017) at Muwo axis in Ikoga Badagry, Lagos, a middle aged man was caught with the head and hands of an unidentified lady at about 4pm in the evening.
Commenting on the incidence, a resident of the area told our correspondent that this is not the first time for the culprit as he had always been seen walking around the neighborhood holding a sack with blood dripping from it.
Each time someone confronted him and asked about the content of the sack, he always told them that it is bush meat but then luck ran out on him yesterday when he was finally busted.

Russian justice ministryis planning to label Jehovah’s Witnesses an ‘extremist organization’ following years of government suspicion of the group.

However, the lawsuit filed with the Russia’s Supreme Court against the national headquarters of the country’s Jehovah’s Witnesses wasn’t dated and has not yet been scheduled for legal action according toreports reaching our News Desk.

Nigeria Football Federation president, Amaju Pinnick has been elected into the CAF Executive Committee and on return back to Nigeria on Friday got a very rousing welcome in Lagos following his success at the CAF polls.

Amaju Pinnick defeated the incumbent Moucharafou Anjorin of Benin Republic by 32 to 17 votes at the CAF congress in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

As we reported earlier on, Ahmad Ahmad of Madagascar on the same day, beat long-serving incumbent Issa Hayatou by 34-20 votes, to become the first CAF president since 1988.

Nigeria’s Amaju Pinnick (Western Africa Zone B) joins Danny Jordaan (South Africa and Southern African zone), Musa Bility (Liberia and Western Africa Zone A), Suleiman Waberi (Djibouti and Central/East African Zone) and Faozi Lekjaa (Morocco and Northern African Zone) as members who have been elected into the CAF Executive Committee.

Manchester United managed to secure a slim 1-0 win over Russia’s F.C. Rostov at the Old Trafford to book their passage to the last eight of the Europa League courtesy a beautiful goal scored by Juan Mata in the second half of the game.

The first leg played in Rostov had ended in a 1-1 draw and United came in to the second leg determined to finish the business of moving to the next round as quickly as possible but were too wasteful for much of the match at Old Trafford and looked to be heading for a another draw before Mata slotted home 20 minutes from time at the end of a well-worked move from the hosts.

With the hosts dominating the game all through, the Russian team seemed very content to defend while offering very little attacking threat with the post coming to their rescue twice in the first half to keep Zlatan Ibrahimovic from scoring.

It was a sweet victory for youth and professionalism as Issa Hayatou’s 29-year reign as president of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) came to an end with Ahmad Ahmad voted in as Africa’s new Football Boss on Thursday.

CAF has been led since 1988 by Issa Hayatou and he was also on FIFA’s executive committee, as well as failing in a bid for the presidency of the governing body in 2002.

Issa Hayatou was also FIFA’s acting president when Sepp Blatter was suspended from the position in 2015 remaining in that position until Gianni Infantino was elected the following year.

In a highly anticipated contest held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, Ahmad won convincingly by 34 votes to 20. The Boss on the block was wildly celebrated by his supporters immediately the results were announced.
