It was a grim situation yesterday at the National Assembly as Muhammed Shuaibu, the clerk of the House Committee on Agricultural Production and Services reportedly slumped and died, while walking on a staircase at the National Assembly complex, Abuja around 12 noon. It was once again a painful return journey to Stamford Bridge for Manchester United Manager Jose Mourinho as his former team Chelsea beat his present one 1-0 to end their FA Cup defence. This time around however it was a bit better off judging by the scoreline. The Manchester United Manager’s first return to the Blues after his December 2015 sacking ended in a humiliating 4-0 bashing and United ultimately fared little better in this quarter-final capitulation, secured by N’Golo Kante’s stunning strike. The visitors were expected to play a very defensive game due to the fact that many of their strikers could not make the game for one reason or the other. Marcus Rashford was however able to defy illness to start the game as Mourinho changed his system to match that which Antonio Conte has dominated the Premier League with. Cabals within President Muhammadu Buhari’s government forced him to return to Nigeria despite being unwell according to Sahara Reporters Owner, Omoyele Sowore. Sowore went to say that “Every truth passes through three stages before it is recognized”. Reproduced below is what he wrote on his Facebook page.. President Buhari was forced to return to Nigeria by members of his inner political circle to reclaim authority, but here he is telling whoever is listening that he is still unwell and need more treatment in due course! ‘‘I am feeling much better now. If you have never beleived in the possibility of “coming back from the dead” before now, I am sure you now do after watching F.C. Barcelona “ressurect” in their 6-1 demolition of Paris Saint Germain yesternight at Camp Nou in a European Champions’ League second leg encounter. The crazy group of players that constitute the present Barcelona team has shown everyone what it means to have an attitude of “never say die” in life. Even among its supporters, only the very core crazy ones like myself beleived that this group of soccer wizards can pull off this history making victory over an otherwise almost equally brilliant PSG team the way they did. Not to forget the fact that no other team had ever over-turned a 0-4 deficit in the history of the European Champions’ League before last night’s crazy encounter and like I wrote in my post earlier, if any team were to accomplish such a feat, it just has to be this soccer mad assembly that I would rather prefer to call “Barcagola”. It was a night of real shame for Arsenal F.C. on their home ground right in front of their own fans as F.C. Bayern Munich matched their 5-1 thrashing of the hosts to make it a 10-2 aggregate drubbing with an embattled Manager Arsene Wenger looking pitiful at the Emirates Stadium. This makes it a seventh consecutive last-16 exit for F.C. Arsenal whose Laurent Koscielny got sent off after Theo Walcott had scored his team’s opening goal coming on the heels of a spirited first-half display. Bayern’s top goal scorer Robert Lewandowski won and converted a 55th minute penalty as Koscielny was sent off and just as it happened at the Allianz Arena in Germany, Arsenal caved in with the departure of the French defender and went on to suffer the heaviest aggregate defeat inflicted upon an English team in Champions League history. F.C. Real Madrid left no one in doubt as to their aspirations as they majestically breezed into the quarter-finals of this year’s European Champions’ League Quarter-Finals stage by nailing Napoli F.C. 3-1 away from the Bernabeu. The travelling Madridsta fans had a lot to celebrate as their darling team once again showed the stuff they are made of in grand style. Real had to come back from a goal down as F.C. Napoli put up a great fight in the first half to see if they could over-turn the first leg deficit and they went real close as they got in on the score sheet first. But then came a Sergio Ramos who once again rose to the occasion for his team as the centre-back helped Real Madrid come from behind to win the game 3-1 eventually and secure progression to the Champions League quarter-finals with a 6-2 aggregate triumph. Sometimes I have a feeling that the name Nigeria is not only now expired but fully cursed every single day after it expired in 1994. How else can one explain the demonic things happening on this geographical territory for sometime now? A country that ordinarily is so blessed that it can single-handedly take care of the rest of the continent but is at the brink of starvation, societal value collapse, total moral decadence and all of their family members. Take the following story and see what I mean. In Borno State, a place that is currently one of the most threatened by drought, diseases and the likes, which has drawn sympathy and selfless donations from home and abroad is the same place where some lunatic has no other thing on his mind other than to acquire a child bride to abuse as he likes and does so publicly too. I am so devastated by the news that I will simply leave you to read the story yourself without further inputs from me. —————————————————————————————————————————– A child was married off to a fully grown adult in Maiduguri, Borno State on Sunday, March 5th. According to Alfa Bolondes, who shared the photos on his Facebook page, the groom is his uncle’s son and his brother. Is this act not a criminal act? F.C. Arsenal’s title hopes were further dampened as Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino both scored one and created another before Georginio Wijnaldum scored in stoppage time to assist F.C. Liverpool to a crucial 3-1 win in the race for Champions League qualification. The first goal came through Firmino with an assist from Mane who provided him a superb low cross early on, before the Brazilian returned the favour late in the first half. F.C. Arsenal looked set to get backinto the game as Danny Welbeck pulled one back after the break, but Liverpool was not ready to letthis one slip past them as they held firm and Wijnaldum scored the decisive goal that ensured a vital Premier League victory in the 91st minute. The game had a lot at stake at Anfield asthe home team desperately needed a win to keep their Champions League ambitions alive after their 3-1 defeat at Leicester City on Monday. Since present F.C Barcelona’s Manager Luis Enrique announced his intention to step down from his position at the club, the search for his successor has been frantically on-going and many notable names have been associated with this prime job. One of such names is Sampaoli who currently manages F.C. Sevilla. This amiable manager got a real boost recently as Barcelona legend Hristo Stoichkov got behind his nomination by saying he feels Sampaoli is the right man to replace Luis Enrique as the one in charge at Camp Nou. Manchester United’s Manager Jose Mourinho surel ymust have put a big smile on defender Luke Shaw’s face by saying that he beleives the latter can become the best in his position of play. Shaw arrived Manchester United from F.C. Southampton as one of the most promising full-backsin Europe but has since not really been able to confirm that role as he struggles to make regular appearances forthe Reds season in season out. Under Mourinho’s regime at ManU, the 21-year-old England international has only been able to make seven Premier League appearances so far. Apart fromthat, he has not played in the Premier league since October, and was also not included in the squad for the EFL Cup final. Luke Shaw, however, seems set to feature against Bournemouth in a Premiership game on Saturday and Mourinho believes the defender may eventually emerge as his first-choice left-back. An estimated 3 million Nigerians have lost N18 billion in the Phonzi scheme, popularly called Mavrodi Mundial Movement(MMM). This much was announced by the The Nigerian Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC) while quoting the social media. The Managing Director of the corporation, Alhaji Umaru Ibrahim was speaking at the NDIC day at the ongoing 38th Kaduna International Trade Fair on Thursday, 2nd March 2017. He was particularly sad that despite repeated warnings by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and the corporation, some gullible Nigerians still patronised the MMM. He said, “The Phonzi scheme is the phenomenon of illegal fund managers, popularly called “Wonder Banks” which have continued to defraud unsuspecting members of the public of their hard earned money”. F.C. Liverpool got a real boost as Dejan Lovren returned to training on Thursday even though the defender faces a race against time to be fit for a very vital Premier League clash with Arsenal F.C. A knee injury has kept out Lovren since the 1-1 draw game Liverpool played at home against run-away League leaders Chelsea F.C. on January 31. Between that time and now, his team has lost two matches and shipped in five goals in just three games. And very importantly right now, they will be hosting F.C. Arsenal a team in direct competition with the Reds for a Champions League qualification place on the League Table. Lovren, who has proven to be an ideal partner for Joel Matip at centre-back as preferred by manager Jurgen Klopp this season, did not travel with the squad for a training camp in Spain, but was instead consulting a specialist in Germany last week. In the wake of the recent resurgence in performance in the F.C. Barcelona squad, some jitters have been sent down the spines of some of their bitter rivals and the Managers of those teams are doing everything to calm things down before they get out of hand. One of such Managers is F.C. Real Madrid’s Zinedine Zidane. The amiable manager has insisted the LaLiga title race is still very much wide open after Real Madrid were over taken on the LaLiga Table by bitter rivals Barcelona. F.C. Barcelona ruthlessly dispatched Sporting Gijon 6-1 while Real Madrid failed to regain top spot despite salvaging a 3-3 draw at home to Las Palmas on Wednesday. The defending champions F.C. Barcelona are now a point clear atop the table, even though Madrid have one game in hand, and Real Madrid’s Manager Zidane remains positive over the capital club’s chances of lifting the trophy for the first time since 2012. As was to be expected by many due to the turn of events in recent games involving F.C. Barcelona, the team’s Manager Luis Enrique has announced he will step down as Barcelona head coach at the end of this season. His contract comes to an end in June and he has decided that there will be no renewal of it. Luis Enrique won a treble of LaLiga, Copa del Rey and Champions League titles in his first year as manager of the team and was expected to stay longer than he has now decided. However, the news has not come as a big surprise in the wake of recent performances of the Catalonian Giants as rumours had it that all was not completely well in the team’s camp. F.C. Barcelona has looked a real shadow of themselves in some matches that involved even lower strung opponents of recent and that has suggested some internal wranglings were in motion. F.C. Barcelona yesterday did what many have described as a dress rehearsal for the return leg of the European Champions’ League Match against PSG in a week’s time as they “hammered” F.C. Sporting Gijon in a game in which they reminded everyone what they are capable of doing when they really put their minds to it. This is a team that was completely different from the F.C. Barcelona of recent weeks and one that reminds all and sundry of the Barca we were all used to watching over so many years now. And as would be expected, the usual “culprits” had their hands (sorry, legs) in all of the action as Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez ensured they were on the goalscorers’ list. As for Neymar, he was not to out-done by his other two soccer criminals in the now famous MSN formation as he ensured that his name was not missing on scorers’ list either on a night the home fans got back “their Barca” at last. As the people concerned at F.C. Barcelona continue to crack their brains about how to overcome a 4-0 deficit against PSG in order to remain in contention for the current European Champions’ League Title, support has come from a very unexpected corner. The support is coming from no other than Real Madrid great Guti who revealed that he wanted Barcelona to stage a remarkable comeback to beat Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League. If you however think he is saying so because of his love for the bitter rivals, you are simply seriously mistaken. His position on this issue is actually coming from a selfish but well thought out calculation. Guti who won five LaLiga titles and three Champions Leagues with F.C. Real Madrid, hopes to see a comeback for Barca as well as a heroic performance from Gerard Pique in the up-coming game. In their first competitive game since the departure of erstwhile Manager Ranieri, Jamie Vardy and Leicester City seemed to reproduce the form that took them to the Premier League title last season as a somewhat lame Liverpool were defeated 3-1 at the King Power Stadium. The former Manager Ranieri’s banners were all over the stadium as the home crowd paid glowing tributes to the amiable Italian, who was sacked last Thursday following a run of five consecutive top-flight defeats. The fans however had no cause to approach mutiny as their side located an intensity and drive sorely lacking over recent weeks. Team idol Jamie Vardy continued from where he had stopped in the 2-1 Champions League loss to Sevilla last week with his first goal for Leicester City in the Premier League in 2017 and Danny Drinkwater followed suit when he displayed impeccable technique to net a sumptuous long-range second. It is no longer news that a lot of people especially fans of the F.C. Barcelona are of the opinion that Manager Luis Enrique’s days as the club’s helmsman are numbered more so with the bashing the club received at the hands PSG recently in a Champions League match as well as some unconvincing performances against lower rung teams in the Spanish LaLiga matches both home and away. However the embattled Manager at least still seem to have the backing of some of his players such as Andres Iniesta who insists that Luis Enrique enjoys unequivocal backing from Barcelona’s squad and hopes the head coach stays in charge at Camp Nou. The loss to PSG was followed by hard-fought 2-1 win over Leganes in a match in which superstar Lionel Messi had to dig deep to save his team from serious blushes did not bring smiles to the faces of the fans, but a victory by the same scoreline – and again courtesy of a late Lionel Messi winner – at Atletico Madrid on Sunday briefly returned the defending champions to the top of LaLiga before Real Madrid’s 3-2 comeback triumph at Villarreal in the late game. If there is anyone that was left devastated by the Athletico Madrid’s home loss to F.C. Barcelona yesterday, it is no other than the team’s Manager Diego Simeone. He surely had done everything in his power to ensure that Athletico won the game and get the much needed three points to close the gap on the third placed F.C. Seville. That looked very likely to happen when Diego Godin headed in an equaliser to cancel out Rafinha’s opener, but F.C. Barcelona’s character and star quality ensured that the hosts’ dreams remained just that. Barca’s little magician Lionel Messi who was virtually unusually quiet in this game was once again the decisive factor just like in his team’s last game against Leganes as he scored the priceless goal that proved to be the winner four minutes from the end of proceedings. The importance of the up-coming match between hosts Atletico Madrid and F.C. Barcelona in La Liga this weekend cannot be over-stated as a win for either side will bring about major changes not just for their season’s exploits but also to the LaLiga standing. As it stands presently however, Diego Simeone’s men will be looking to get closer to the top three with a home win as F.C. Seville are currently occupying the third place with a difference of four points between them and the league already heading towards the closing stages. Atletico Madrid have had a poor season by their own standards and will need to be careful against a dangerous team like Barcelona. They are however unbeaten in their last five matches. They are also going to miss the services of Tiago, Godin, Bernabe, Juanfran and Fernandez who are ruled out of the game with injuries. It is no longer news that Leicester City Club Management has sacked former Manager Claudio Ranieri. The question however is “Is that the right thing to have done?”. This is a man who brought out the club from nowhere to become the Premier League Champions within one year of joining the club. This is also a man who has led the team to place first in their group in the European Champions League Competition – something many established teams are still dreaming of- with the team still very much in contention for the prestigious cup. Is their position on the British Premier League Table really enough reason to sack such a coach? Time shall surely tell as many of the fans are already showing their discontent with the decision of the club’s management. Many of the Managers in the Premier League are also voicing their disappointment with the situation. Managers like Tony Pulis and David Moyes have expressed their disappointment at Claudio Ranieri’s sacking by Leicester City. The Manager at West Brom Pulis said he was disappointed at the news but suggested Leicester had become “carried away” by their stunning success of last term. “I’m disappointed. Am I surprised? Manager Claudio Ranieri has been sacked by the Leicester City Club Management according to reports reaching our News Desk. This is coming on the heels of recent criticism of the club’s performance so far especially in the British Premier League games. Recent results show that Leicester City have lost seven of their last nine matches, including Wednesday’s Champions League last-16 first leg against Sevilla, while a return of just five wins in 25 league matches has left them one point above the relegation zone. The encouraging performance in Wednesday’s 2-1 loss notwithstanding, the club managementhas decided to part company with the manager who led them to title glory only nine months ago. “Leicester City Football Club has tonight [Thursday] parted company with its first team Manager, Claudio Ranieri,” the club said in a statement. It was a happy night for Manchester United as they cruised into the last 16 of the Europa League as a 1-0 victory at Saint-Etienne crowned a dominant 4-0 aggregate triumph, but match-winner Henrikh Mkhitaryan left boss Jose Mourinho with an injury worry. There surely is bound to be some form of celebrations in Catalunya right as F.C. Valencia shocked the visitors with two fast goals in just 9 minutes into the game to record only their second victory over Madrid in 15 league meetings and bring the leaders’ six-game unbeaten run in all competitions to an end. The home side went ahead early in the game when Simone Zaza’s spectacular turn and half-volley after four minutes had the home fans celebrating wildly in anticipation of happy evening for themselves and their darling team and this was further confirmed when Fabian Orellana scored his fifth goal of the season following a clinical counter-attack five minutes later. One Nigerian man who goes by the name Apst Morris has revealed how some soldiers beat up his friend, a car dealer for not being able to sell a car. It turned out to be a thriller of some sorts as Manchester United hosted Monaco in a Champions League face-off as both teams virtually set the Etihad Stadium on fire in an eight goal feast. That this match produced eight beautiful goals was not a surprise to those who know both teams well as they are well known for an attacking style of football. Monaco F.C. for example have scored over 100 goals in all competitions this season, And so when goals started pouring in from Sergio Aguero and Radamel Falcao (scored two apiece) – the latter also missing a penalty – Raheem Sterling, Kylian Mbappe, John Stones and Leroy Sane, it was not so great a surprise to ardent followers of the game. Raheem Sterling opened the flood gates by scoring 26 minutes into the game, but Manchester City could not hold on to their advantage for long as Monaco levelled up through Falcao’s diving header following a poor clearance from Willy Caballero. Manchester City were then hard done when Aguero was booked for diving instead of being awarded what City felt was a clear penalty and their frustration got even worse when teenager Mbappe put Monaco ahead before the break.
