Nairaland GeneralArsenal Through To Next Round Of FA Cup by uneeking(op): 5:15am On Feb 21, 2017
The boys are being gradually separated from the men as yet another lower league team is sent crashing out of the running for the FA Cup with Arsenal F.C. ending Sutton United’s remarkable FA Cup run to book a place in the last eight.

A goal in each half scored by Lucas Perez and Theo Walcott were enough to keep alive hopes of a third FA Cup crown in four years, Theo Walcott’s goal by the way, was his 100th for his team.

Sutton’s closest chance to create an upset came when Roarie Deacon almost scored a dream goal for Paul Doswell’s men, striking the crossbar just after Walcott’s landmark goal.

Nairaland GeneralManchester United Ends Blackburn's FA Cup Dreams by uneeking(op): 5:31am On Feb 20, 2017
If Manchester United had expected an easy match against Blackburn Rovers in their FA Cup fixture, they surely did not bargain for the fight they got from the home team.

In fact, Manchester United’s Manager knew things would likely go from bad to worse for his and just had to bring in his superstars Paul Pogba and Zlatan Ibrahimovich in the second half of the game. It was therefore not a surprise that the winning goal for his team came from a combination of both players at the tail end of the game.

The hosts had given a fine account of themselves in the first half and went ahead through an exceptional goal inspired by Marvin Emnes and finished by Danny Graham.

Manchester United levelled the scores at the break, as Marcus Rashford showed great composure toscore his sixth goal of the season.

Nairaland GeneralReal Madrid Shoots Down Espanyol 2-0 by uneeking(op): 7:49pm On Feb 18, 2017
It proved to be a perfect come-back for Gareth Bale as he scored on his return from injury to help his team Real Madrid consolidate their position on top of the LaLiga Table with a 2-0 home win over hapless Espanyol.

In yet another special occasion, Alvaro Morata headed in Isco’s cross to score on his first league start of 2017 in the first half of a low-key match which produced few scoring opportunities after Real Madrid made seven changes to their team.

The hosts had received an added boost when Gareth Bale returned from three months out with an ankle injury as a substitute to cap a late counterattack and seal victory, Isco again with the assist.

Real Madrid still have a game in hand on both Barcelona and third-placed Sevilla, who can reduce the leaders’ advantage down to three points by beating Eibar later on Saturday.

The Zinedine Zidane tutored side have now won eight straight league games at the Santiago Bernabeu as they continued their push for a first LaLiga title since 2012.

Nairaland GeneralZlatan Ibrahimovich Likens Himself To Indiana Jones by uneeking(op): 12:11pm On Feb 17, 2017
On the wake of scoring a hat-trick for Manchester United in their game against Saint Etienne at the Old Trafford, Zlatan Ibrahimovic has now likened himself to movie character Indiana Jones.

The gangling swede netted a hat-trick to give Manchester United a very comfortable advantage in the first leg of their Europa League last-32 game, scoring once in the first half ot the match before adding two more goals in the second half.

The victory ensured that Manchester United remained on track for continental honours, with Jose Mourinho’s men still in the race for the EFL Cup and FA Cup as well.

Zlatan started his United career on a very bright note by winning the Community Shield with the team and is hopeful of adding more trophies in the remainder of the season.

Nairaland GeneralZlatan Ibrahimovic’s Hat-trick Sinks Saint Etienne by uneeking(op): 6:34am On Feb 17, 2017
The Headline could as well have read Zlatan Ibrahimovich 3, St. Etienne 0 as the Manchester United striker single-handedly shot down the away team with his first hat-trick for ManU.

Ibrahimovich’s deflected free-kick in the first half and a second-half double were enough to give Manchester United a very important if not a wholly convincing victory at Old Trafford.

The game itself had a notable side attraction – two brothers Paul and Florentin Pogba face one another for the first time competitively. It also was United’s first of four in only 10 days, but manager Jose Mourinho nonetheless named a strong side in an effort to take control of the tie.

Nairaland GeneralF.C. Barcelona Not Favourites Against PSG Says Lucas Digne by uneeking(op): 5:54am On Feb 13, 2017
As the Champions’ League Competition enters its knock-out stages starting Tuesday 14th February, a number of people have been making predictions, statements and placing bets on their favourite teams.

One of such people is F.C. Barcelona’s defender Lucas Digne who has played down the talk of Barca being favourites in the Champions League round of 16 against Paris Saint-Germain while insisting that Luis Enrique’s men must prove their quality.

Barca will be playing away to the French champions in the first leg of the last-16 tie in Paris on Tuesday, with the Catalans enjoying great success against the capital club in the recent past.

Both teams have played against each other six times in the past three years with F.C. Barcelona winning three of those matches in the Champions League, while eliminating the French side in two of the past four seasons. PSG’s only win over Barca came via a 3-2 success in 2014.

Nairaland GeneralReal Madrid Beat Struggling Osasuna Away From Home by uneeking(op): 6:21am On Feb 12, 2017
Real Madrid F.C. were put through a very serious test especially in the first half of the game against Osasuna F.C. as they struggled to pick a very important win in their bid to stay comfortably ahead of arch-rivals F.C. Barcelona on the LaLiga Table.

With Barcelona having played earlier on and climbing to the top of the table with a win over Alaves, it became imperative for the Zinedine Zidane tutored side to pick all the three available points in order to get the top position back.

Surprisingly, they were pushed all the way by a spirited Osasuna side before securing a 3-1 LaLiga win on Saturday courtesy goals from Ronaldo, Isco and Vazquez.

Nairaland GeneralF.C. Barcelona Mauls Alaves 6-0 Away by uneeking(op): 8:00pm On Feb 11, 2017
The famous MSN trio were once again “the culprits” as F.C. Barcelona dismantled Alaves in an away LaLiga match played at the Estadio Mendizorrotza. This match was supposed to be a rehearsal for the Copa del Rey final match.

F.C. Barcelona had earlier on been beaten on home soil by Alaves in September, but Barca’s famed MSN trio helped set the record straight, with Neymar’s goal taking him above club legend Ronaldinho in the scoring charts.

Virtually all the goals came in two clusters, with Luis Suarez and Neymar scoring within three minutes of each other on the stroke of half-time to ruin what had been to that point a resilient display from Alaves, who ended the club’s wait for a first Copa final with Wednesday’s 1-0 win over Celta Vigo.

F.C. Barcelona’s own route to the final had proved more problematic, as a heated 1-1 draw against Atletico Madrid at Camp Nou – which sealed a 3-2 aggregate success – came at the cost of red cards for Sergi Roberto and Suarez, though the latter is subject to appeal.

Luis Suarez scored in that match before being given his marching orders and netted twice on Saturday, the first from Vidal’s low cross.

Alaves – who had denied Barca a goal on the Catalan giants’ last three LaLiga trips – had barely recovered from that blow when they conceded a poor second, goalkeeper Fernando Pacheco punching an attempted clearance into Suarez and the loose ball falling for Neymar to tap in.

Coming on the heels of aPSG on a run of four wins in a row in all competitions, Marquinhos believes they are in good shape to take on the team who knocked them out of Europe’s top competition in 2013 and 2015.

“These are matches where you play the details,” said the centre-back, as quoted by L’Equipe. “You have to be at 110 per cent and you can’t make mistakes.

Nairaland GeneralLionel Messi Dribbles Even His Neighbours by uneeking(op): 5:13am On Feb 10, 2017
If you were to be a famous person who has the challenge of dealing with annoying neighbours, how would you go about handling the issue? That is one of the challenges superstars like Lionel Messi has to deal with now and then. So, how does he go about handling such challenges?

If you know a little bit of the Argentinian Captain and F.C. Barcelona Superstar’s exploits on the field of play, you might just be able to guess how he would sort out such a challenge – Lionel Messi simply dribbles his neighbours like does his opponents on the football field.

So what exactly did the quiet giant do?

Messi in his typical way of doing things, simply just buys off the neighbours whole house and gets his much needed peace without having to resort to complaints or law suits. This much was revealed by his team mate at F.C. Barcelona, Ivan Rakitic.

Nairaland GeneralSaraki Reacts Angrily As NLC And TUC Go On Protest March by uneeking(op): 7:44pm On Feb 09, 2017
After watching from the sidelines as ordinary Nigerians took to the streets in protest against the government policies and actions for some time now, The Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) on Thursday finally came out of their shells to stage a protest at the National Assembly complex, Abuja, over the rising cost of living in Nigeria.

The Nigerian Labour Congress Chairman, Ayuba Wabba in his speech, said the groups were protesting the delay in the upward review of minimum wage amidst increasing cost of goods and services in the country.

“We are here to demand for good governance and express our support in the fight against corruption.

“More importantly, we demand for respect for rule of law, greater accountability and transparency in governance,” Mr. Wabba said.

Nairaland GeneralOver 12 000 Nigerians Face Deportation From Germany by uneeking(op): 7:09am On Feb 09, 2017
More than 12,000 Nigerians seeking asylum in Germany stand the risk of being deported next year. This news came from the desk of Dr. Ralf Sanftenberg, Germany’s Global Head of Programmes, Migration and Development as he yesterday paid a courtesy call on the Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to the President on Foreign Affairs and Diaspora, Mrs. Abike Dabiri-Erewa in Abuja.

Dr. Ralf Sanftenberg, who was at the head of a delegation from Germany’s Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development, was on a site assessment mission for assisted-voluntary returnees of Nigeria’s irregular migrants in his country.

The mission is saddled with the responsibility of coordinating the Centre for International Migration and Development (CIM), which offers returnees support service and knowledge transfer.

“We have over 37,000 Nigerians in Germany and more than 12,000 of them are asylum seekers. There is a little chance for their applications to be moved and they may be forced to come back to Nigeria next year,” he stated.

According to the envoy, about 99 per cent of them are likely to be denied asylum status since Nigeria is not considered to be one of the world’s war-ravaged countries.

Sanftenberg, however, noted that if they were willing to return home voluntarily, they would be assisted through a support programme organised by the German government.

A member of the delegation, who is a consultant to the programme, Stephanie Alofokhia-Ghogomu, urged the Nigerian asylum seekers to return home. Alofokhia-Ghogomu, who was also a voluntary returnee, said she had spent half of her life in Germany, adding that she had to return home to contribute to the development of Nigeria.

Nairaland GeneralF.C. Barcelona "Squeezes" Into Copa Del Rey Final by uneeking(op): 6:14am On Feb 08, 2017
As was to be expected, the secong leg match of the Copa Del Rey Match between F.C. Barcelona and Athletico Madrid at the Nou Camp was one of fireworks in all its ramifications with tempers flaring up here and there.

It was therefore not much of a surprise that one of the heroes of the match also ended up a villain at the end of it all as Luis Suarez scored a very important goal for the holders but will not be a part of the final match having been sent off at the tail end of the game in a dramatic 1-1 draw with Atletico Madrid at Camp Nou that secured a nervy 3-2 aggregate triumph.

Luis Suarez had opened the scoring against the run of play, tapping in after Miguel Angel Moya had only managed to parry Lionel Messi’s effort in the 43rd minute.

Thereafter, Sergi Roberto and Yannick Carrasco got dismissed one after the other for various offences and substitute Kevin Gameiro missed a penalty for Athletico Madrid but went on to atone for this error by levelling the scores on the night from close range seven minutes from time.

Nairaland GeneralF.C. Barcelona Boosted By Iniesta And Busquets Return by uneeking(op): 4:41pm On Feb 07, 2017
Andres Iniesta and Sergio Busquets are back from an injury break just in time to boost the F.C. Barcelona squad for the Copa del Rey semi-final second leg against Atletico Madrid on Tuesday.

While Adres Iniesta has been sidelined since the 1-0 victory over Real Sociedad on January 19 with a calf injury, Sergio Busquets sprained his ankle in the 4-0 win against Eibar three days later.

After having trained with the team this week, the pair have been included in Luis Enrique’s 18-man squad as they try to build on their 2-1 advantage at Camp Nou and book a place in the final.

Busquets might just feature right from the start, while Iniesta might likely to named among the substitutes according to some reports reach our newsdesk.

Lucas Digne also returns to the fold having missed the last two games with a knee issue, but Neymar is unavailable due to suspension and Jeremy Mathieu misses out.

As is the norm with cup matches, Marc-Andre ter Stegen is left out, with Jasper Cillessen and Jordi Masip the two goalkeepers included.

Now the questions are;
Is he making sense to you or do you think he is wrong in his analysis?
Are the people in government actually working in the interest of the average Nigerian citizen on the street?
If so, how come they use the nation’s limited resources so extravagantly while the people who are the real owners of these resources suffer in palpable state of poverty in the midst of plenty?

Nairaland GeneralReal Madrid Face An Uphill Task Against Napoli by uneeking(op): 7:26am On Feb 07, 2017
Looking ahead to their up-coming European Champions’ League match against holders Real Madrid, Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis insisted “no team is unbeatable” as the Italian high-flyers seek to cause an upset.

The Saniago Bernabeu is the venue as F.C. Napoli go head to head against F.C. Real Madrid in the last 16 on 15th February, 2017.

Even though Real Madrid made it through the group stage with an unbeaten record as runners-up, they will have their hands full in the fixture against an in-form Napoli who have vowed to make life difficult for them in those ties.

However, De Laurentiis – whose Napoli boast the best attack in Serie A with 55 goals – is not daunted by the tie, which begins in the Spanish capital.

Nairaland GeneralLionel Messi And Luis Enrique by uneeking(op): 11:48pm On Feb 06, 2017
Star Player of F.C. Barcelona and boss Luis Enrique do not keep secrets from one another when it comes to tactics of winning games for the Catalonian team, insists the Manager.

Following the substitution of the superstar Messi for the first time this year during Saturday’s 3-0 LaLiga victory over Athletic Bilbao, Luis Enrique was bombarded with questions concerning thta singular unexpected act in a match that had seen the Argentina international score with a free-kick.

The Argentinian captain had before that game played every minute of Barcelona’s matches in 2017 and initially appeared frustrated when he was taken off, although he was later seen joking with Luis Suarez on the substitutes’ bench.

And ahead of Tuesday’s Copa del Rey semi-final second leg against Atletico Madrid – a tie Barca lead 2-1 – Luis Enrique appeared to suggest he had pre-warned Messi he wanted to rest him ahead of the crucial fixture at Camp Nou.

Luis Enrique claimed he does not keep any secrets from Messi and that it would be a crazy situation if he did not speak with his star man regularly.

Nairaland GeneralF.C. Barcelona Can Still Catch Up With Real Madrid – Neymar by uneeking(op): 9:58am On Feb 06, 2017
F.C. Real Madrid may be presently in a pole position in LaLiga title race right now but Neymar believes Barcelona can still catch up with them in the near future, despite the European champions’ impressive form this season.

F.C. Barcelona are presently behind Real Madrid by a solitary point, but Zinedine Zidane’s side have two games in hand and have lost just once in the league this term.

However, reflecting on the way Madrid chipped away at his own side’s advantage at the top in the 2015-16 campaign, Neymar remains optimistic of a title challenge.

“I know it’s a little hard, but nothing is impossible,” he said in an interview with Red Bull. “Last year, we were 12 points ahead of second place – and we only won by one or two [points], if I’m not mistaken.

“There are still a lot of games to go, a lot of matches, anything can happen, and we are really focused. We are thirsty for the title and we’re going for it.”

Nevertheless, Neymar is in no doubt about the scale of the task ahead of Barca, as he acknowledges LaLiga as the strongest league in Europe.

Nairaland GeneralLionel Messi Breaks Yet Another Record by uneeking(op): 4:22am On Feb 05, 2017
Yet another F.C. Barcelona record was broken on Saturday by no other person other than the dimunitive Lionel Messi who has now emmerged as the most prolific free-kick goalscorer in the history of the club – surpassing Ronald Koeman’s 26 set-piece strikes.

Paco Alcacer had already put his F.C. Barcelona ahead 1-0 against Athletic Bilbao when five-time Ballon d’Or winner Messi stepped up to take a set-piece from close to the byline on the right of the penalty area.

Lionel Messi’s low shot was on target even though Athletic Bilbao’s goalkeeper Gorka Iraizoz should have kept it out after getting a hand to the effort. The goalkeeper’s failure to do so handed Messi a club record 27th free-kick goal for F.C. Barcelona.

Lionel Messi had drawn level with Koeman’s mark with another free-kick special against Athletic in the Copa Del Rey in January that made it three set-piece goals in three games for the forward, making present the Everton manager to congratulate Messi on social media.

Chelsea F.C. took a very important step towards winning the EPL title this season today as they virtually demolished one of the title contenders – Arsenal by three goals to one at the Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea were really boosted with a solid performance from Eden Hazard and duly extended their lead at the Premier League summit with a dominant 3-1 win over title rivals Arsenal.

Howeverit was Marcos Alonso that drew the first blood by giving Chelsea a 13th-minute lead, heading home the rebound when Diego Costa’s header looped up off the crossbar.

The wing-back’s robust challenge on Hector Bellerin that allowed him to score is likely to draw post-match rancour from Arsene Wenger, but the suspended Gunners manager could have no complaints when those alongside him in the stand were brought to their feet in the 53rd minute.

Nairaland GeneralNeymar Jnr. Better Than Cristiano Ronaldo Says Pele by uneeking(op): 4:51am On Feb 04, 2017
If the words of Brazilian great Pele are anything to go by, then Barcelona star Neymar is technically superior to Real Madrid’s Cristiano Ronaldo.

Neymar till date has remained in the shadows of four-time Ballon d’Or winner Ronaldo and Barca rival Lionel Messi both of whom have dominated World football honours.

As far as Pele is concerned, Neymar is the heir to the throne of Ronaldo and Messi – a five-time winner of the Ballon d’Or – but then the 24-year-old still has to improve his heading ability in order to surpass Madrid’s all-time leading goalscorer.

“The only problem that Neymar has is the header. Cristiano Ronaldo is not better than him,” Pele – a winner of three World Cups – told Brazilian outlet UOL.

“Technically, Neymar is way better, but he [Ronaldo] is better when using the head.

Nairaland GeneralManchester United Stumble At Home Against Hull City by uneeking(op): 5:59am On Feb 02, 2017
It was another disappointing match for the fans at Old Trafford as their darling team Manchester United failed to take advantage of the Premier League’s top four all dropping points as they were held to an unimpressive 0-0 draw at home to Hull City on Wednesday.

Allt the top teams including Chelsea, Tottenham, Arsenal and Liverpool all failed to win in their respective league outings on Tuesday, and one would have expected Manchester United to take advantage of the situation but they only ended up wasting the opportunity to close in as they struggled to capitalise on their superiority against a Hull side who were ultimately grateful to goalkeeper Eldin Jakupovic.

Despite being in total control of the game especially in the first half thereby making it a one-sided affair, Manchester United just could not find a way to make their efforts count by way of goals.

Athletico Madrid yesternight had a real horrid time at home losing to F.C. Barcelona in the first-leg game of the Copa Del Rey semi-final match with their perennial rivals at the Vicente Calderon.

SportsBarcelona Can Manage Without Iniesta And Busquets – Luis Enrique by uneeking(op): 5:26pm On Jan 31, 2017
F.C. Barcelona’s Manager Luis Enrique believes that his team can cope in the absence of injured pair Andres Iniesta and Sergio Busquets as they prepare to face bitter rivals Atletico Madrid in the Copa del Rey.

Both mid-fielders have been sidelined by calf and ankle problems respectively, and were unavoidably absent as Barcelona were held to a 1-1 draw at Real Betis in their last match.

A very different ball game awaits Barca on Wednesday, when Luis Enrique takes his team to Vicente Calderon for the first leg of the Copa semi-final.

When the Barca Mananger was asked about the absent captain and his fellow midfield star, he insisted the players at his disposal will be enough to get a good result from the up-coming match.

“I’m happy with what I have, with my team,” he said.

“We’ve overcome a lot of difficult moments. We’ve had injuries. Some have been more important than others.

“But it’s not the time to talk about who we don’t have. We have to try and help the ones that we do have to play as well as they can.

“If we talk about the players that aren’t here – I don’t think this is the right time to talk about that.”

Nairaland GeneralTwin Daughters Poisoned By Father by uneeking(op): 8:10am On Jan 31, 2017
A 40 year old man has been apprehended by the Cross River State Police Command for allegedly poisoning his twin daughters after accusing them of being responsible for his parent’s death.

The man who goes by the name Anyanime Festus was arrested in the Akampka Local Government Area of the state before being transferred to the Police Headquarters in Calabar.

Festus was alleged to have given his 11-year-old daughters a black substance, believed to be poison to drink, which led to their death on January 10 and 11. Hw was reported as saying that his daughters confessed to be witches and that he had no choice other than to kill them before they kill him. So he mixed acid with malt, took the twins to a bush path and gave them the substance to drink.”

Another source, who pleaded anonymity, said: “The twins were always wandering the streets. When brought back home by strangers, Festus usually chased them out again without food. Sometimes they were locked up and not given food for days.”

Investigations revealed that before the fateful day, the girls had been incarcerated for about three days before their father let them out under the pretence of taking them to school before he took them to a bush path and poisoned them.
