Ha ha ha ha! Nigerian educational system is a failure. No two waters meet without mixing, given sufficient time. Depending on density there forms an interface between them, a kind of partition that we see. But this is not true partition as the water are continually mixing across the partition, albeit at molecular level. I think there could be miracle in this verse if it tells that the waters do actually mix, since people thought they didn't. Instead the verse seem to tell otherwise by describing the partition between the seas as "inviolable/forbidden", which is not true. |
najib632:Even if it were the angels that ascend, it makes no difference. It would mean that relative to us, these angels take 1000 earth years to reach Allah. So people'll live and die and decompose long before the angels who deliver people's affairs complete their ascent to Allah. Also, my point still remain on the distance of ascent to Allah being less than the distance to the nearest star - Proxima Centauri, which is even within our Milky way galaxy. Now, another problem with your calculation is how you apply affairs ascent time. Affairs ascent duration = 1 Day = 1000 earth lunar years. So, affairs ascent duration in earth seconds = # of lunar year days * # of seconds in sidereal day * 1000. Now divide the distance by the number of seconds obtained above. Answer is going to be less than 1km/s. Update: I've checked all the tafsir at my disposal, none of them imply the angels relating affairs to God take any amount of time - sidereal day, & consider speed from that. https://quranx.com/tafsirs/32.5 How you ask of me to seek Qur'an interpretation from ancient exegetes but you quickly overlook the interpretations of such exegetes on verses like 32:5 amazes me. Is it sincere that dismiss ibn Kathir only when you want to cook up scientific miracles? For all other issues- salat, fasting, dress codes, hudud laws - you must stick with Ibn Kathir and co., but not when you want to prove scientific miracles? |
najib632:Hmm... Right answer, but questionable methodology of calculation. Allah is in a reality far greater and higher than ours, a 1000 year of ours is equivalent to one day with Him:OK. By your interpretation of this verse, 1000 years is the duration it takes for matters here on earth to ascend to God, right? OK, and you calculate to the distance of ascent as 25 billion km from earth. After 25 billion km, these matter complete their ascent to Allah 's realm. You now proceed to calculate the speed of light, quite accurate, hmmm? Scientific miracle of Quran? But wait, the closest star to the earth is 37 trillion kilometers. Are the stars farther from the earth than Allah's realm - which is above the heavens(Outer space)? Another problem is, why would intangible earthly matter or affairs even need to ascend to Allah like physical objects ascend, with scaler quantities like speed and distance? Wouldn't this be redundant if God already knows the future, hears and sees everything. Thus, you've misinterpreted this verse in bid to prove Qur'an miraculously confirms the speed of light. You've proven one wonder at the cost of what? A blunder. I know, it is really impressive doing these calculations with one figure from Qur'an and several from outside Qur'an. And confirming speed of light or distance from the sun. But be careful. Not all that glitters is gold. |
Akin1212:It is difficult to do that. I used to think I could before but I'm not so sure any more. |
Akin1212:I really can't think of any at this point, to be true. I can't defend everything in the Qur'an. No Muslim can. |
Akin1212:You could say that. But that is only one way of seeing it. |
I think the problem we face with Islam is people approaching it with either confirmation bias or disconfirmation bias. And this is why tintingz is asking "Who is a True Muslim" despite my exposé on the Hadith of 73 sects and Akin1212 is asking "Where is hell?" If you read the Quran carefully, these questions seem absurd as asking; "Who is a true writer" or "Where is the end of the universe?". It is really not the purpose of the Qur'an to answer them. The thing with anti-Islam critics and Islamic apologists is that they are too sides of a coin. Their approach to the Islam is too one dimensional and narrow. So they make poor arguments just as often as they make good ones. For me, it is better to approach the Qur'an from alternate perspectives to minimize these bias. |
Akin1212:I take it that the author of Quran opted not to reveal its specific location. Either that or Hell just dont exist. |
Akin1212:Firstly, I've defined hell. There are numerous verses of Quran describing hell. I cannot tell you anything different from these verses. Secondly, I have mentioned those going to hell according to Qur'an. Lastly, about the location of hell. It seem to lie somewhere in outer space. This is my impression from the Qur'an. |
tintingz:We just don't, unfortunately. If you're a Muslim you have to do your own research. And decide what to uphold and reject. |
tintingz:Then I guess it is left for God to judge. Actually following Qur'an and claiming to follow it are not the same |
tintingz:I think it really depends on individual. There could be true Muslim among them just as there could be false Muslims. There is no easy way to tell unless we observe each Muslim and judge with Quran. |
Akin1212:You're making a mistake. I'm simply reporting what the Qur'an states. Now whether a hell exist and what proof we have is entirely different subject. |
Akin1212:Come on. Haven't you read the Quran. It is what it is - a destination of punishment for evil doers. |
tintingz:I already did. The true Muslims are those saved from hell. Who are these Muslims? See these verses; 40:40, 103:3, 2:82, 3:57, 4:57 |
tintingz:How is this a fallacy? I never said any particular Muslim is not a Muslim. You should read and digest my post. |
najib632:Not everyone that identify as Muslim are Muslim. Some Muslims are in fact no different from disbelievers. So the disbelievers there are not limited to non-Muslims. If you find my posts annoying then just skip them. I too find the posts of some poster in this forum annoying. But you know what I do? I skip them. I stopped reading them even when they directly reply to my posts. The primary audience of my posts are critical Muslims, with an impartial & multidimensional approach to Islam. I have no interest in sterotypical Muslims with antiquated philosophy and reverence for Ibn Tamiyya, Al Ghazali or Ibn Kathir. |
tintingz:I agree to your point on divine test or trial. But the divine punishment, you should be able to grasp that. Unless of course, it happens to poor little or innocent people. In that case, I think you we should also remember another side to the topic. That is, God may let hardship and misfortune happen, not as punishment or test, but as divine lessons for man. You know, to lead man to correct himself or his affairs. If something cannot be rationalized then it doesn't make any sense and should be discarded.I depends on the thing, its worth. Even in science, there are certain things that are applied even though the full science is not rational. Since worthy to one man may be unworthy to one other, you find people clinging to what you rejected as myth. |
Akin1212:Hmmm....! Didn't know about this, despite all my inquiries into abiogenesis previously. I'll need to verify the veracity, though. That extraterrestrials cooked up man is just another nonsense, prove it.For a man so sure of abiogenesis, should it be too hard to see the earth's biomes as end yield of alien lab work? Could these highly advanced and intelligent aliens be whom the theists perceive as God? If religion is restricted to individual beliefs then no one will be disturbed. But when it comes to where they will now say those who don't share the belief with them will suffer forever in hell is where we will have problem. Everyone should worship their own god and go to their own heaven or hell. But is that how it is? How come you now said religion is an individual thing?Oh, I was talking about how individual experiences shape their beliefs. People who are very religious can share many stories of how they feel this special connection to God. A sort of supernatural force that they can't explain but they can feel through their worship and prayers. Theists are basically stupid people, cognitive bias will not let them have peace. Can a loving and merciful God be a punisher? I don't need to overflog this particular issue. You can't be white and also be black at the same time. Why? Can't a loving father punish his son? You see what am saying? It just doesn't end. For almost every flaw you find, theists seem to find a way around it. And so, as atheist, you're forever trapped in this endless loop. |
tintingz:No, Marvel comics itself claim to be fiction. And what pre-existing life did life originate from?God is the pre-existing life in case of theism. If God letting evil happen(which he hate) cannot be rationalize then God do thing for meaningless reasons.Meaningless? tingting, do you still remember the story of Job(Ayyuba), servant of God? The calamities that befell him, the purpose of those calamities and how God restored him? There's no prove of divine compensation, we're alive and we need to work with what is real not imaginary and fairytales, humans are not perfect, life is not perfect, afterlife according to religions is meaningless. Religions are confused if there's a divine compensation and justice why bother penalizing criminals, why can't they wait for God to do something?Fair enough. Religious people are mostly delusional, they don't know what's real and what's not.See, the thing is like this. In theism, there is a limit to rationalism. The human brain is incapable of understanding certain notions and blind faith or suspension of disbelief is the only way forward. Either this or it is apostasy. But apostasy is not always an option for every theist. I've told you before, a God is not define by name only, a God is define by his attributes, characters and mythology. The gods you mentioned are totally different from each other in many ways. Do you believe Allah has an eagle head? Because that's what Ra is.You may as well be right, but you're neglecting the fact that two persons may bear alternate perception of the same thing. The perception of God, is irrelevant here. They are all referring to a creator and sustainer of heaven, earth and life. Will the theist consider atheism if they get heal without praying?May be, may be not. I really don't consider prayer 'working' to be genuine proof of God. But the real issue here is that theists wouldn't consider such a test because even if this were a good test, it would be too much risk for someone who strongly believes there exist a God listening to him. Prayer doesn't do anything, it's just way to feel there's some fairy being listening you.Fair enough. |
The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "Whoever notices something which he dislikes done by his ruler, then he should be patient, for whoever becomes separate from the company of the Muslims even for a span and then dies, he will die as those who died in the Pre-lslamic period of Ignorance.
More likely than not, the hadith on the 73 sects was a political ploy to consolidate power. The promise of salvation for those who stick with the Ja'maah is an empty one, and only stupid or gullible Muslims buy into it. |
This hadith highlight the depth of divide among the early Muslims, on both political and theological front. Decades & centuries post Muhammad, political and theological divisions that broke among early Muslims threatened and culminated in civil wars and assassinations of caliphs. To forestall these divisions and preserve unity and tighten grip on the masses, there arose the need for propaganda. Thus, hadith like the emergence of 73 sects and sticking to the Ja'maah could have been invented. In fact, there are so many variations of these hadith, such as; |
If we turn to Qur'an 6:116, we are clearly cautioned against following the crowd, bandwagon. The Ja'maah reminds us of a crowd, bandwagon. It offers nothing but a false sense of security, a sort of strength in numbers. This is why Muslims belonging to this Ja'maah love converts and convert stories. The more the converts to their version of Islam - the Ja'maah, the larger the Ja'maah. And the larger the Ja'maah, the stronger the sense of security. This in mind, how did the hadith on the 73 sects and the Ja'maah arise in Sunnite traditions? |
“You will most certainly follow the ways of those who came before you, arm’s length by arm’s length, forearm’s length by forearm’s length, hand span by hand span, until even if they entered a hole of a mastigure (lizard) you will enter it too.” They said: “O Messenger of Allah, (do you mean) the Jews and the Christians?” He said: “Who else?”

The Messenger said over the martyrs of Uhud, "I testify for them." Abu Bakr as-Siddiq said, "Messenger of Allah! Are we not their brothers? We entered Islam as they entered Islam and we did jihad as they did jihad." The Messenger said, "Yes, but I do not know what you will do after me." Abu Bakr wept profusely and said, "Are we really going to out-live you!"
|
If we flip through the Qur'an, we run through multiple verses informing us that; anyone who believes and is righteous, will be spared of the hell fire - 40:40, 103:3, 2:82, 3:57, 4:57 etc. No single verse in the Qur'an ever endorse the Ja'maah/Main body. So why the Ja'maah? After all, it is not immune to corruption and just as the Ja'maah of other religious communities like Christians and Jews fell astray, the Ja'maah of Muslim community could as well fall astray. For instance, see these hadith; |
It was narrated from Mu’aawiyah ibn Abi Sufyaan (may Allaah be pleased with him) that he said: The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) stood among us and said: “Those who came before you of the people of the Book split into seventy-two sects, and this ummah will split into seventy-three: seventy-two in Hell and one in Paradise, and that is the jamaa’ah (main body of Muslims).”What does the above hadith mean? It mean that only mainstream Muslims are true Muslims deserving of paradise. The mainstream Muslims apparently are the largest Muslim sect - the Sunnites. This is the unbiased truth. Right But what if you're like me, heterodox or not mainstream - because you don't believe in certain Islamic texts like hadith books. Can you be a true Muslim, do you deserve paradise? |
Akin1212:Ha?! There are breakthroughs, but there is still a long way to go, to be honest. Until the first bacteria DNA is synthesized, there isn't much to consider to be honest. I feel a better alternative to abiogenesis would be that extraterrestrials cooked up man and all earth life in a lab. But does this divinity have any proof or evidence of existence? It's evil to let people believe it's okay to suffer here on earth because they will enjoy in the hereafter when there's no single evidence of the hereafter. Empty promises are worst than no promises. Atheism won't deceive you, theism does.No objection on my part. But see, it's not just about me. It's about the billions of theists out there who believe that God has good reasons for letting suffering happen on earth to innocent people. Theists believe God is all wise, and He has good purpose for not stopping evil. Purposes that are best known to him. LmaoNo objection on my part. But, like I explained to tinting, you cannot undermine the significance of personal experiences in individual beliefs. And as to evil happening to theists without divine intervention, please do remember that theists do regard these evils as divine punishment or trials from God. Theists believe that God sometimes punishes or test his followers with calamities and misfortunes. |
tintingz:tingtingz, one man fairytale is another man's fact. Even though I'm not fully convinced by religions' account of origin of life, I will admit religion is still right in one aspect, life originated from a pre-existing life. This is the law of biology and by contradicting this law, abiogenesis becomes unconvincing for most folks until proven. In this case, even if we reject theism, Deism is far better option than atheism. Divine compensation is a delusion, Karl Marx called it an opium, I call it a comfort zone.I've already addressed this. I admit you've raised an important objection, but it is not enough to convince certain theists. These theists also do have laws that penalizes crimes, but as I explained before, criminals escape the law all the time. Need I also add that in theism, God let evil happen for just reasons, which may or may not be comprehensive to man. There is a limit to logic in theism, it gets to a point where emotion, insecurities, fears and confusion dominate to drive belief. This is a post hoc fallacy and a delusion grandeur.I've told you before, Zeus, Jesus, Vishnu, Ra, Allah - these are just names referring to the same entity, the same being. So, it is possible that the same God still assist these people in need. As to why atheists experience similar miracles to theists even without praying or believing, I have no response. You have a point. However, beliefs are heavily shaped by personal experiences. If a theist feel strongly that his prayers are working, there is really no motive for him to consider atheism. Your claims are absurd.Fair enough. |
tintingz:Well, how can I prove that the author of the Qur'an is the only God that exist? There just isn't anyway to prove it other than trusting the Qur'an. I know, it doesn't sound logical. But unless I find and verify the scriptures of the other gods, it will be difficult to admit their existence at this rate. |
tintingz:Yeah, and they can use the word Allah but refer to different Allah. I've cited examples with Arab Christians and Jesus. You are atheist, but you still look at Islam through Sunnite/Shiite lens. I expect you to be capable of a more objective approach to Qur'an. Consider the ruler of one kingdom, known to the people as 'The king'. In another kingdom, there is a different ruler known also as "The king". Regardless of the character and attributes of the rulers, they are both known as "The king". It is the same for Allah - the god. Your original challenge is difficult for Muslims who believe stupid things like "Allah is God's real name" or "Allah is Muslims' God". Hence, you see uneducated responses left on this thread. But any Muslim who realize God is not obsessed with a particular name won't face difficulty tackling your original challenge.
Say: "Call upon Allah/The God, or call upon Rahman/Most merciful: by whatever name ye call upon Him, (it is well): for to Him belong the Most Beautiful Names. Neither speak thy Prayer aloud, nor speak it in a low tone, but seek a middle course between."
|
Akin1212:But how? No one has been able to demonstrate or abiogenesis. It's an hypothesis at best. Why can't the fate be decided before death? Because God isthe God of the dead? People get away with evil fine fine and nothing happens. God will rather allow a 2 year old girl to be raped and punish the rapist when he is dead? That's nonsense.I really get your point here, I do. But at least theism promises the raped child divine compensation, atheism promises nothing. If you're wronged unjustly, so be it in atheism. This is not sensible to theists? Hundreds of people of God died in Congo last year during the ebola outbreak. Thousands have died in Yemen due to hunger. Thousands are living with cancer and other diseases. Where is the divine protection? You should sit among theists and listen to their anecdotes. Listen to them recount how Allah heard their prayers and miraculously enriched them after years in poverty, or how Jesus healed their terminal cancer after months of fasting or how Yahweh continue to protect the Jewish state of Israel despite aggression from the surrounding enemy states. You haven't said anything reasonable. To you I haven't said anything reasonable but I'm sure many theists reading this will agree with me, even though my concern is not necessarily to defend theism. The truth is that atheism, has it flaws as theism does. To some theists, atheism is just like a child abandoning his parents, it is not as rational or empowering as many atheists feel. |
tintingz:I will go with the first position. "Allah" is not really a proper name. Allah mean "The god". And so just any God can be referred to as Allah. "Jesus" is known to Arab Christians even today as "Allah". That is why as an English speaker, I don't share Muslim obsession with "Allah". If you read my posts, I write "God", I rarely write "Allah". You might now ask, if Allah is not a proper name, then how does the phrase "There is no god but Allah(the god)" work? Consider that "Allah" was already the term for the supreme god among the pre-Islamic Arabs. "The god" is explained by numerous verses of the Qur'an through attributes and signs. |

. Would I also need to listen to how Zeus answered prayers? Or how Sango killed the adversaries of his worshippers, or how the cow they worship in India gave one of his worshipers a job, or how Baal has been protecting his worshippers, or how I don't worship anything and I'm doing so well?
