• God’s punishment as a result of our sins and bad actions.

• God’s wisdom, as there may be divine wisdom in permitting evil and suffering. Even if we can’t evaluate what the wisdom is, it doesn’t mean it is not there. To argue such a thing would be a logical fallacy, known as the argument from ignorance (argumentum ad ignorantiam). The story of Khidr which can be found in the 18th chapter of Qur’an from verses 60 to 82 is an eloquent account of how God’s wisdom, whether understood or not, has positive results and benefits for humanity.

The intellectual richness of Islamic Theology provides us with many reasons, some of which include:

1. The primary purpose of the human being is not happiness rather it is to know and worship God. This fulfillment of the divine purpose will result in everlasting bliss and happiness. So if this is our primary purpose other aspects of human experience our secondary. The Qur’an, the book of the Muslims states: “I did not create either jinn or man except to worship Me.” (Qur’an 51:56-57)

2. God also created us for a test, and part of this test is to be tested with suffering and evil. The Qur’an mentions “The One Who created death and life, so that He may put you to test, to find out which of you is best in deeds: He is the all-Almighty, the all-Forgiving” (Qur’an 67: 2)

3. Having hardship and suffering enables us to realise and know God’s attributes such as ‘the Victorious’ and ‘the Healer’. For example without the pain and suffering of illness we would not appreciate the attribute of God being ‘the Healer’. Knowing God is a greater good, and worth the experience of suffering or pain as it will mean the fulfillment of our primary purpose.

4. People can also suffer from past, present or future sins. God has knowledge of everything which is not contingent on time. Please refer to the story of Khidr in the Qur’an where it mentions Khidr’s reply to Prophet Moses “All this was done as a mercy from your Lord. What I did was not done by my own will. That is the interpretation of those actions which you could not bear to watch with patience.” (Qur’an 18:82)

5. God has given us free choice, and free choice includes choosing evil acts.

Thanks dude, i agree with all your points. I could have mentioned them but i mentioned the only one in my post becos most good people tend to over look it. And recall Islam teaches that whenever any evil befall anyone, he/she is the cause of it. Period.
There are several answers to nairatalks question. I mentioned just one {Islamic practice/Disenthusiasm in technological inventions}, i may be right or wrong and you have your answers, some which are fine with me. Am sure nairatalks has his answer, so does khalid and everyone else. Our answers just cant be the same, even if we may be both right.
Am not here to criticize islamic values. The truth must always be told, even against oneself where need arises. Both Muslims and Christians have their loopholes,flaws and failures. And as much as both muslims and christians hate to admit these faults either out of pride or stubborness, i 'm willing to point it out to them out each time the opportunity knocks.

Most of the good guys prefer other religious activities than taking their time in scientific work. Only few of them get into practical science and they just can't utilise their full potentials since they are few and dont get the necessary motivation for technological research. Its like being in a house where everyone prefer to attend Quranic school strictly without distraction, u being the only one who want a western education. How hard is going to be for u, my dear. Yes fear of the hereafter, they do work hard to be a success after the judgement and a lot of them fear distraction or deviation venturing in technological field could result to. Its like preparing for an exam, but one man is so determined to pass that put away everything you can imagine,reading all day and night without and rest or relaxation. Oh yes, there are muslims that have isolated themselves from humanity or civilisation cos they cant stand anything with even a micro potential threat to their faith. They want to worship God and nothing else. Am fine with such an Islamic life, only i won't resort to it anytime soon.
Whoever said the presence of Islam is the problem. Not me and not nairatalks or Khalid did say that. No one could say he is practising real, Islam only God knows who really is. And how are we sure contemporary islam was islam of those long gone Muslim scholars you keep mentioning.
U didnt get my words right about clothing. Am not going to start debating wether fashion has a place or not in Islam but i do know that a compulsion to wear the same gament with the same colour all through,all time mean no advancement or changes could be made through technological effort. A majority of lab coat, or research wears today are considered questionable for women among plenty of muslims. Yet the abaya can't be used in place of them.
Socialising? How about recreation? Not talking of partying,clubbing or fooling around. Television,video recorders,cameras, computers, internet and more all came about not particularly to satisfy man 's needs. Rather they came in to satisfy our wants. Arab Muslims are much focused on the hereafter to go after anything else but their needs.
Do not misunderstand, am not insulting islamic values. I have been speaking of how muslims and their understanding as well as practice of Islam have a role in where there stand,below europe,china and japan in technological inventions. Muslims and Islam are not the same becos one is flawless and the other is flawed. Deal with it.

Now, why do bad things happen to good people? Becos the so called good people have a somewhat bad past and believe me the past is always affecting the future. The law of retribution always holds. Because despite their goodness, they still do a lot of wrongs, make a lot of poor judgements and decisions, make mistakes they may be too blind to notice.
This what is haunting some islamic nations today. Even though they strive to be good generally, encourage good and forbid evil, they are still lacking in areas of mordernisation, mainly because of a lot of flaws in their lifestyle and mindset, bad things still happen to them, e.g lagging behind technological wise. And as long as they believe their living is flawless ,nothing 's gonna change.
Let me get one thing clear,am not here to bash muslims as my post may appear to some of you folks. Am here to speak the truth from my own understanding or observation. Its just happen that the truth doesnt favours the muslims in this subject. And am not forcing anyone to accept or believe all my write up. I just gave a response to the OP and anyone dissatified can let us know his/her answer or version of the truth as well.

Nairatalk, this is no joking issue. This is a serious issue where a lot of muslims hate to discuss. I already spoke with someone about this and he was getting emotional over it. Is this section ready for my answer?, can you all handle the truth? The truth is like fire, i 'll give it to only those who can handle it.

Nobody is perfect. The islamic states have their fair share of faults, a lot they are unwilling to take responsibity of. They are wealthy and could stand on the same technological level like Europe and america if they wanted. However, they just won't because they are scared, too scared of venturing into anything else because they believe it might lead them astray Look around them. Nearly everything is forbidden. Look how they dress, especially the women,does it create room for manufacture of varieties of clothing. How much of socialising and recreation do muslims indulge in, to desire for their own technological invention. The world mean nothing to them. Their only concern is the Hereafter and if securing success in the hereafter mean forgoing science and technology then so be it. But the western world don't give a damn. Rather they are willing to strive for a better world here on earth.

Why would this question exist here in nigeria, west africa in 2013 when majority of girls are too self centered/scared to ask out even a long time crush be he a friend,classmate or colleague. It is nearly unbelievable to witness girls who dont see a wrong in fornication,indecent dressing or nudity yet view asking out guys as a taboo or act of shame. The less said about this, the better for this thread.

It took me sweat,blood and tears to get the answer to this question. Once u get the answer, u automatically answer your own question.

I myself, am not up for how things are run here in this section and every now and then, while some posters might have deserved their ban, they are those that have a point on arguing that their controversial comment dont deserve a ban. Even some muslims get a hard time in the thread due to their difference in view. And so i got to reason with u that the mods of the section have to cut back a bit. Sometimes the opinion of a poster is based on life experiences and not neccesary an insult as it might appear to be.

Yes, it is true, i myself wondered why such a warning had to appear anytime you try posting on the muslim section. However, after brooding over it, i realised that a lot of non muslims insult islam deliberately in their posts. The truth is that any topic on frontpage is available for everyone to view and most at time a topic from islamic section (rather than any other religion section) appear on the front page. Some non muslims come into the thread, try derailing it,insulting a poster or maybe insulting Islams or Muslims or even the noble prophet(S.A.W) despite the severe warning and eventually the mod(s) would have non of it and retaliate with a ban.

Feminist movement came up to liberate women, to elevate their status, to give them a chance to express themselves as equal to a man and not be disregarded. Its done a good job so far, especially when you consider women status in primitive era. Even then, a lot of women have underutilized this movement and some have even abused it thereby not tapping the full potential
of the movement.
U(women) have to wake up and smell the coffee, u should have a say in your natal or conjugal home. U dont always have to be in the background, in the shadow, u could be in the front or light if u are willing to. U have a choice especially in matters that affect you. A man shouldnt have the final say in the home, a woman should criticize and point out his flaws in a professional manner where neccessary. The white men have to an extent got the better of the black men on this account. That is why the damsel in distress stereotype is gradually tapering down in american/european society.

The truth is, you ladies have to work hard too. Be a woman of morals,decency and independence. Show it that you are confident, intelligent and can stand on your own even without a man. If u keep depending and waiting for a man to do everything for u, then u suffer the consequences.
It is no secret, some men are sexist, men who believe a wife is a servant, not a partner. Men who believe Women were created to serve men. First, we can say their mummies never bothered teaching them how to relate with women properly. Secondly, religious/tribal rulings some how place men above women, hence the sexists believe they are doing the right thing. When some men say they want a respectful wife, they mean a wife who would put her want away instantly just to satisfy him at anytime.

Am not impressed if those are what attract you. come on, at 14 or 15, they are still young and growing taller. It is only at early adulthood height increase terminates and then most of the food eaten is directed at increasing weight when we dont properly exercise.

Lack of exercise, imbalance diet are 2 main factors responsible for women getting fat after marriage. Pregnancy is only a distant third factor.
The fact is that beyond a certain age, we stop getting any height. We just keep adding weight from the food we ingest. Most women tie the knot at this age(20-25). And these women rarely exercise voluntarily, evn those living on a high fat and sugar diet would rather jump in bed just after supper than read a book or watch the tv. So they add weight gradually this way since they keep storing more fat that is never burnt out by exercise even before pregnancy.
On pregnancy, women nvr exercise not even mild exercises, like walking round the house, inspite of what doctors advise, so more fats continue to deposit which greatly increase their weight. After birth, weight falls because the baby is out,but weight is still high relative to her premarital days, due to the vast accumulation of adipose(fatty) tissues during and perharp prior to pregnancy. Still a lot of women wouldnt hit the gym at this point so their body rely on the mild exercise in home or office to burn it fat very slowly, and this is not really effective considering that more fat continue deposit from their subsequent meals.
Women are strange, arent they? they prefer what is easier than what is best for them.

Yes it is true some persons love 'jealousy' but not any kind of jealousy is a turn on,getting jealous over little things might seem lovely initially,but on d long run, it becomes frustrating. Depending on the circumstances, it could be oppression. I cant begin to xplain, but one thing for sure, the world has changed, man has changed and with modern trend, contemporary women have more sophiscated and intensive roles outside their homes so banning them from driving(especially if saudi women are frustrated with it) might be adding an undeserved ton of burden to their workload.

To be honest,'BEATING' here is a relative term. To some, beating is equal to flogging, to others its a slap. But there are those who nvr resort to beating and would rather Divorce or Separate in the worst case scenerio.
Remember that a misbehaving wife has to first be admonished. If she doesnt amend then hubby could refuse her food,if she persist, he should stay out of bed from her. And eventually beating is only legal if the above measures have been employed in correcting her. But for the sake of truth and justice, beating here ought to be mild, not use of severe high impact force capable of yielding a stinging or burning sensation.
These just show how considerate Islam is. It is a simple religion but on an individual level, adherents can make it difficult for themselves if care isnt taken. Some muslims even batter their wives, pathetic isn't it?
Take Polygamy as a case, it is permitted for some of its merits but many muslim chose Monogamy. I mean how many men would chose d burden of multiple wives and how many wives relish the idea of a future co-wife. So also, is the issue of beating, Jack.

There is more to this than meet the eye. Ask some wives of some Ustaz,Mallams,Imams and u 'll b shocked that Charity may not begin from home afterall. Unfortunately a lot of preachers would rather preach on other issues like

Blame the society and media for this rot in relationship division. Unconsciously/consciously, boys/girls mirror the demonstration of male/female xters respectively in stories from tv,movies,music lyrics etc when they attain adulthood.
Our nollywood movies for case study are full of same old clichè: He has to ask her out, arrange d dates,proposes, makes all the phonecalls and even in marriage he initiates everything evn as simple as a kiss. Nvr in nollywood would u see admirable female leads, role models for young girls play a more emotionally selfless role by making more of the moves to show her true love for the love interest. This sends a message, telling young girls or women to be more and more passive and not open with their feelings for their guys, be he husband or boyfriend. Evn in hollywood, movies with assertive, emotionally selfless actress in a relationship are as rare as a hen 's tooth. It is no strange therefore why men continue to complain that "she doesnt call me,she always give me a cold shoulder,she nvr hug or kiss me first, nor try to make me laugh,she hates me despite what i do for her"whether am worried or not, she doesnt care". Yet u might be surprised she doesnt want to dissolve the relationship. So long guys, so long a search for affection.
We r made to believe women need love/affection and should be loved,pampered and worshipped. While we r made to believe that men need no love/care and are good with rejection and lovelessness simply because they are emotionless or with no feelings.
But to hell with these sick beliefs, media,society or culture. Women inspite of all these are aware of this emotional injustice they deliver to men and can do something positive about it, but would rather stick with the current trend since with it, they have everything to their advantage,seem to even enjoy it and find it much easier to let him do all the work than help him out with it.

Frostyzone: Say what?? I had played then all, and the last time I checked, The forgotten sands beat the Crap out of all the Ps2 counterparts in all department...okay, maybe not in game lengths but in all the other departments that matters.

Resident evil 4 is a pretty decent game, the kind of game you would only see in 4th gen. I had a lot of fun playing two characters in it...until I played it's counterpart on Ps3, Resident evil 5. Now that's a game for champs.

Resident Evil 4 was pretty good both in graphics and gameplay, infact you wouldn't even know you are playing a Ps2 title because of the impressive textures and colour resolutions. But Resident evil 5 still managed the incredible feat of blowing it out of the water, due to the superior graphics(the characters are so realistically detailed that you could practically see beads of sweats on their faces). The gameplay is so surreal that you dare not play the game in the dark and alone. Oh Yes! It's that good.

As for Tomb raider: Underground, I haven't tried it yet as to give you an honest opinion.



You may be right. Ps3 have always come up short in wrestling games. I don't know why, but the gameplay almost always sucks compared to Ps2 versions.

They just of recent started getting it right; RAW VS SMACKDOWN 2012 was a real beast

As for GOW 2 being longer than GOW 3, that's a big fat lie.

Both games are epic and won several awards in their era, but in terms of excitements, pound for pound battles, boss fights, stages, storyline, cut scenes, gameplay and graphics, GOW 3 is the clear winner.

It currently rank as the best GOW title in GOW gaming franchise.

Frostyzone u focus too much on graphics. Thats the problem, game developers focus too much on graphics that they fail to deliver a good plot or narration. They focus 2 much on action that games r getting shorter and shorter each year, sequels shorter than prequels. Now dont b left hanging, i love good graphics and tons of action but sacrificing length or story for them is a wet blanket for gamers who understand what a good game worthy of $60 is.
RE5 is a good game to say the least,however it is only about 9+ hours,though nvr beat it myself. RE4 is over 20 hours lenthy, atleast it took me 26 hours to beat it. This difference of over 10 hours of fun is concerning. Look at uncharted series, drakes fortune is less than 9 hours, the sequels rnt any much longer. Look at the call of duty games, so short. For God sake ps3 has a vast memory, the games shouldnt be as short as Golden axe or Sunset riders on SEGA. Resident evil is a survival horror franchise and while RE4 added more action to the mix, the signature scares of the franchise were retained. RE5 wasnt scary at all, it failed to deliver the disturbing moments the franchise always did, though it made up for this with graphic and wonderful third person action. For newer gamers RE4 may not hold the candle to RE5, but for old fans, its debatable. When comparing RE titles, survival horror as its genre cant b overlooked. RE4 earned higher ratings on review site than RE5. That in itself is enough reason not to mention 'RE5 completely blew RE4 out of water'. The same goes for Prince of persia trilogy and prince of persia;forgotten sands. Forgotten sand fared well but it gameplay wasnt as innovative as the trilogy and for the fact that POP derived its popularity from its jump n hack n slash gameplay,this isnt a good thing. Like u said forgotten sand was way shorter than it predescessor, that is a bad omen.
GOW3 overall may beat GOW2. But when u look at the story, it was a lot predictable. The last boss fight was very epic, one of my most difficult boss fight but it was predictable. U knew at the end of GOW2 or start of GOW3 that Kratos has one and only end, Flatlining Zeus. GOW 2, had kratos going along with events,circumstances,shocking revealations. Consider,losing his power to Zeus,his death,ressurection,travel to Sisters of Fate. I thought we wud see kratos finally kill zeus but just see how it ended. This is unlike GOW 3 where he was pushing the events and everything seem in order and familiar.
Kratos personality appeal more and is more relatable in GOW2 as a sympathetic,downtrodden anti-hero than GOW3 as a vengeful,blood thirsty protagonist.

The thing is ps2 is hardly useful if the lens get damaged. U may have to replace with a new and compatible lens. That is not a day 's job,here in Ngr, and lots of gamers just get a new console instead. If u mean ur lens is dirty, i.e ur system cant read disks then go to google to get tips on how to clean the lens.
Some tips need you 2 disassemble the whole console and thoroughly clean within. Others require u to wipe then lens surface lightly with with a cotton bud slightly moistened with ISOPROPYL ALCOHOL. U may get this alcohol cleaner from a local electronic store commonly sold with dvd lens cleaner.
Now,back in time i faced ps2 laser lens issue for a first time, when i couldnt complete Resident Evil 4 last boss fight due to game freezing. What i did was clean the ps2 casing,the disk tray and cover. But i didnt touch the lens. My console worked perfectly after that to oversee my completion of the game.
Then again, simple dust cleaning might not always work or maybe, solve the problem for good. And some experts warn against cleaning lens with alcohol(evn though i did, in a futile attempt to play some old,lightly scratched,pirated cd). Hence, disassembling may come to mind. But the ps2 is not a dvd player, or radio set, evn auto electricians have a hard time unscrewing it and screwing it after cleaning, cleaning that must b done with care not to cut off any wired connection. This is too much of a hard nut to crack especially 4 the ps2 slim.
As a side note; many people complain of their ps2 mostly because they fail to care for it. They take the maintanance hints on the manual for granted. I ve seen guys play with a very dusty ps2, allow the console no rest time,insert very scratched,dirty and unkept cds indiscriminately and its unfortunate cos these same guys end up with lens problems or overheatng that mediate into lens issue. PS2 should b out of reach of dust,water or intense sunlight or heat. I dont evn keep it close to my window cause a strong breeze carrying dust or rain water or intense sunlight(heat) could pass the window thereby reaching the ps2.
Factors like marathon gaming,playing scratched or cracked cds,shocks due to violent shaking or droping the console is enough to stain/bruise the lens or cause internal damages difficult to rectify. The same goes for the PS3.
