Akin d archi: Oh boy.... I really would like to understand the purpose of this thread @op. I know I am may not be all that knowledgeable as respect to deen, but do u really believe that this is doing more good than fitnah?
And I am just curious, do u know some surah in arabic or any other language? And if u do, how easy or hard was it for u. *i am not asking u these to argue, wud just like to understand u better, and u are free to ignore the questions
Yes, i do know some surahs in arabic. Are you talking of memorisation? Yes, some surah/chapters in arabic.

And the purpose of the thread, haven't you read the OP? Why then did you say i was seeking attention?
Islam › Re: Ten Misconceptions Among Muslims by usermane(op): 5:50pm On Oct 27, 2013
For those who find the OP and all who support it strange. Welcome to reality. My message is not new, right from time there have existed few muslims, righteous ones that have rejected these misconceptions but unfortuanately the majority were proponents of the misconceptions and easily had their way. Today, there are more of such muslims rejecting this misconceptions, but as freedom of speech seem to be lacking here, most of them can't air their views.

As for those who tell me to go to clerics e.t.c. I don't disagree with you,but i do not completely agree with you. Think; If the clerics were so knowledgeable why do they still differ in a range of issues. The sunnis have their clerics, so do the shiites, who is the real cleric? I listen to them, but am critical of what they say. Am aware of their fallibility(Qur'an 9:31, 34). I have seen some of them who reject these misconceptions and even more which many muslims will not consider as misconception.

Abubakar Shekau(boko haram chief) is very fluent in Arabic, infact he prefers and speak Arabic over English. He is also a mullah,an imam,a sheikh, and a scholar according to his followers and most "muslims" definition of scholars.

But what happened to those his students who preferred his tafsir or fatwa as final over reading the Qur'an in English? What happened to them? They have been soiling the name of Islam in the mud. They have become a threat to Nigerians. They have become the enemy of the very religion they claim to stand for. They have become BOKO HARAM!!!.

Hmmh, some people here misunderstand me and the topic. They say am seeking for attention, they say am lacking in knowledge, they say am ashame of my religion. But they are wrong. They only know half the truth about me.

I didn't claim to be the most learned. I never enforced anyone to believe this. I don't have to. This is no fatwa or tafsir. The verses speak for themselves. My issue is with those trying to bite off my head (Qur'an 22:72). Get a life, the sheikh is not always right, the mallam or alfa is not always right(Qur'an 9:31,34). U may not be right. Stop taking this personal or as an attack to your beliefs.
Islam › Re: Ten Misconceptions Among Muslims by usermane(op): 3:04pm On Oct 27, 2013
@Sissle, those who memorise qur'an in arabic find it easy because they recite by singing it, paying no attention to the meaning, Qur'an is not poetry. If you start singing with English Qur'an, you 'll able to memorise it too. Moreover, memorising the Qur'an is not as good as understanding it. People memorise the Qur'an and still fumble in application. Enough for you is to read and understand,u can go for extra though.

@babestell, is it the English words we have today that cannot cater for delivering the message of GOD in arabic? I can't see how anyone would incline staunchly to this view. You

I understand if everyone must memorise chapter one(7 verses) in arabic, which is quite easy due to transliteration.

onegig: At all asking peeps to clarify what the op has said. There's a difference between when you don't understand something and you outrightly come out saying you are indeed knowledgeable and what you say is the utter truth even when you give feeble reasons and you coming out to seek knowledge about something you don't really understand.

Starting from the topic you would have noticed he was already determined about his knowledge and wasn't here for a discussion. If he had named the topic " misconception I have noticed about islam" that would have been better . But he is here to gain support for his follies as you can see him shaking hands and recieving praises from his fellow brethren who swallow what he has said hook, line and sinker without a thought as to what he had said. Tell me , who would be ready to enlighten such a lost fellow?

He's on here seeking attention and i guess he's got what he wants. At op... I guess you know your LORD is above and you would give account of whatever you do or say. So maybe you cut short this feel good mission of yours and return back to your senses.
If i had come here, praising Islam, you wouldn't say i am seeking for attention, will u? If i had said Muhammad is the greatest messenger or only the so called muslims will inherit paradise, which are contrary to what Qur'an says, u would fully support me. Then it would no longer b 'seeking attention' according to you.

Let me tell you this, am not a stray boy from down the street, who copied and pasted this. I took my time, almost a week to build this from scratch. Tbaba and co.,everybody believes are knowledgeable which i admit, but are they the only ones that got knowledge? Are they always right? Why does any muslim who oppose them automatically becomes the villain.

I didn't fabricate this, i listed enough evidences, history, verses, logic, i emphasized the worship of God alone. Why then do you hate this?
Islam › Re: Ten Misconceptions Among Muslims by usermane(op): 1:53pm On Oct 27, 2013
babestell: Actually I think you are a muslim who has decided to question the traditions on ground, my post was for those who support vigorously the tenets you have dared to challenge, they need to give you and other muslims a reason to continue to practice your faith in a certain manner. The homework assigment is for those who wanna break your head for daring to say what is in your mind.
Everyone knows that a knowlege of arabic, should be a bonus in understanding Qur'an but it is not a prerequisite. We see even muslims who understand arabic that adopt doctrines contrary to Qur'an, we see them misunderstand the context or message of verses. Abubakar Shekau, boko haram leader is an example, very fluent in arabic. You are a christian, why did Jesus criticise the pharisees so often so often for abusing the Torah? Don't the pharisees understand hebrew?

If you want to learn arabic, good luck, but don't keep drumming it on those who can't. I can read the Qur'an in arabic though

Sissie: @usermane are you a Nigerian? Do you hate being asked if your one?

What tribe do you belong too? Do you have one? Do you like being asked?

Are you black? Do you hate being asked if your one.

What is your identity? How do you identify yourself?
Thank Sissie. I am a Nigerian,i don't hate being asked if i am one though i am not proud of that.
In the case of asking whether am a muslim, it is a different story. A Nigerian is just the name of someone from Nigeria. A muslim should be far greater than that. "MUSLIM" is not just a name. It is a description of a monotheist, a person who submits to GOD alone, who believes in Ressurection and who strives to be righteous. Now you tell me, is that the societal understanding of that word?

babestell: Am catholic and I know what it means for my faith to be mis-understood and our actions mis-intpreted. Most times people do it out of ignorance and just pure prejudice. It falls on us as adherents of the faith to correct them and place them on the right part.
Most of what we practice in our religions are a result of culture in our locality. The OP has highlighted some key issues which am sure a lot of young muslims are asking themselves, these questions need answers and reasonable answers at that not threats of beating up or what ave you. Tbaba has responded to that of the use of Arabic as the language of Islam, I totally agree with him cos the Catholic Church uses latin a lot( a dead language) and that is because most english translations do not carry the full weight and meaning of the same word in Latin.
Lemme not hear anybody threatened anybody else on this thread again. Go and do your research and come and educate the OP, and others who may be reading this.
tbaba has a point, yeah but it is not that i haven't been doing my homework. It is true that some arabic words are difficult to translate into English but then again, how many of such words are we talking of? And how much does it affect the message or meaning of the verses? The message of GOD is not in the language. It is reasoning and sincerity. I have seen muslims who don't understand arabic, yet they understand the Qur'an better than some who understand arabic. Qur'an 56:79.

Babestell, do you think am a non muslim who is misunderstanding sb elses faith?

Islam › Re: Ten Misconceptions Among Muslims by usermane(op): 12:46pm On Oct 27, 2013
This is one reason why even though i acknowledge the Qur'an and those scriptures sent before it, i hate being asked ;"are you a muslim or not?". The word "muslim" has become polluted and perverted overtime by people. Even boko haram call themselves muslims.
The truth is that if you can come here criticising non muslims then you should be warned; those who live in glass houses musn't throw stones. By the comments so far it seem, the muslims in Islam section can't stand criticism. Is it not that every time persons come with genuine criticism of your doctrines which you can't justify, some of those persons' posts you hid, others you banned?
Islam › Re: Ten Misconceptions Among Muslims by usermane(op): 10:12am On Oct 27, 2013
,Thanks a lot Beejaay and Logicbwoy. I am happy at least a few persons appreciate GOD.
As for tbaba, babylolaroy, akin di archi, i am not seeking attention or here to mislead, and yes, i took my time to cook this. If i see things going contrary to Islam, i have to comment, doubting thomas will learn. I am not here to shove my findings down anybody 's throat. The truth is what i seek and those who take this thread professionaly will have no issue.

I welcome criticisms or insults from those who take things personal. Insult won't hurt me. I am glad a few persons, even non muslims have learnt a thing.

Here I was saying freedom is in the west. cry So now, they feel that they can tell a woman what not to wear and still claim freedom?

While I doubt that the UK will ever ban the Burkha, I am quite disappointed in the UK public. I sha hope the polls werent a true reflection
Peace to you Logicbwoy.
Have you considered why they want to ban it? Our faces are our identity, much as it is ours, we owe it to the public to be identified. We as human want to know who is sitting behind us,who we are talking to, who we are dealing with. This is why randomly wearing even a mask is not right.
Moreover,no where did the Qur'an command women to wear face-veil. This another misconception among muslims:

Peace. Do you fast on that day? I mean growing up in a sunni populated region, i see sunnis fasting on that day. Is it just coincidence that the massacre took place on ashura day? Many muslims don't know about this history. Infact it was only last month that i discovered there is more to ashura day than fasting.
Islam › Re: What Stops You From Wearing The Hijab? by usermane(m): 4:27am On Oct 27, 2013
PEACE TO YOU ALL

Hello everyone and what a beautiful morning. Got a small token in form of an exposé please. You may thank me later.

I respect most of these girls' excuses for not wearing 'hijab' even though majority are oblivious that hijab is not obligatory. I put the quotation marks because that word in regard to dress code is not in the Qur'an at all. How do you as a person expect all women to put on that black abaya, drooping over the ground when ever they go out? Even in the heat?
See, i used to believe the hijab was an obligation. I used to listen to muslim clerics talk about it mandation by the Qur'an. But you know what gave them away, it was the verses(Qur'an 24:31, 33:59) that gave them away.

24:31 Thank GOD,the verse said,'draw your veil over your bosom', not the head. A 'veil' is a piece, that covers something. It could be wrapper, sheet, blouse e.t.c. The command is not to be covered from head to toe but to dress without revealing certain parts of their bodies that incite lust. Otherwise head, neck ears, hand could have been stated. GOD explains His verses in detail.
33:59 command women to draw their cloth or garment over their body. How again is this talking about the so called hijab?

In summary cover your bodies properly especially the parts that could incite lust or molestation like the bosom. You don't need a 'jilbaab' or 'abaya' to do this.

Hijab,Abaya and Niqab are misconceptions among muslims. Please check here for some other misconceptions:

Islam › Re: Why Are Women Not Fit To Be Leaders? by usermane(m): 2:59am On Oct 27, 2013
Qur'an 27:22-40
tells a history. A woman ;Queen ruled Sheba. And GOD spoke well of her even though she initially was a pagan. GOD described her as a brillant, moral, democratic and humble ruler. Infact you should get a translated Qur'an to get the gist yourself. She embraced Islam at last, but continued to rule. No where did GOD state that women cannot rule, infact by giving us the story of this great muslim queen and not prohibiting women from leading in any verse on his Scripture, GOD is in essence telling us to women have just equal right to lead as men.

And for your own good,be careful with hadiths, not all of them are authentic.
Islam › Re: Ten Misconceptions Among Muslims by usermane(op): 2:10am On Oct 27, 2013
One thing about the real world is that nothing is just black and white.
A lot of persons live a life of misery due to their inability to see things beyond the face value.
And the face value is never a substitute for truth. Face value is the societies' construction, the societies' preferences. Face value could be painted or rusted.
Rather,trust in the Real value.
The Real value is truth
The real value is untouchable and like iron from iron ore, it requires extraction and separation from the surrounding impurities.

There you are again. Most christians may say Islam is a false religion, and that is understandable considering what 'muslims' have done with Islam so far. I believe the 'muslims' are the problem with Islam. But you 'll agree with me that there are non muslims considering embracing Islam and this could be of high value to them. Mee234: Why is this topic not in the Islamic section? U should be talking to Muslims who are misunderstanding their religion and not those who have no use of it.
I thought quite as much. But from my prologue, i said this was useful for even non muslims. I believe there are just some misconceptions among muslims that some non muslims can't deal with because muslims and non muslims tend to interact, in family in friendship, in work place e.t.c.

Again, the muslims and non muslims can access the thread easier in this section than in the Islam for Muslim section.

EPILOGUE

This, which i have presented from the bottom of my heart is not a propaganda or conspiracy against muslims. These are misconceptions that have plagued muslims for long. I hope you have learnt a couple of things. It would be worth a good read by anyone intending to learn about Islam, even the non muslims could get some of their questions on Islam answered.

You may share this with your family and friends. I urge you to read and verify the evidences, facts and examples. I apologise if i have offended anyone. Please deal with this proffesionally. Thanks.

PEACE BE UPON YOU.
Islam › Re: Ten Misconceptions Among Muslims by usermane(op): 4:14am On Oct 26, 2013
Therefore, rid yourself of this misconception. Free yourself of unwarranted workload. Islam is not a bunch of dos and don'ts on every petty, little thing. Qur'an detailed as much as
-how to greet fellow believers(6:54)
-what to say before we start reading the Qur'an(Qur'an 16:98)
-what to say when we plan to do something in future(18:24). What more could a believer want?
Accept with humility GOD 's repeated assertion that the Qur'an is fully explained with all details and enjoy a perfect life in this world and hereafter.

Qur'an 59:21
If We revealed this Qur'an to a mountain, you would see it trembling, crumbling of of reference to GOD. We cite these example for the people so they may reflect.

1. Such a Book 's teachings shouldn't be abrogated by other books(Qur'an 2:41)
2. Such a Book is detailed,self explanatory with enough examples(Qur'an 6:114, 16:89, 30:58,18:54)
3. Such a Book can stand alone(Qur'an 18:27)
4. Such a Book is satisfaction(Qur'an 18:27).
Islam › Re: Ten Misconceptions Among Muslims by usermane(op): 4:11am On Oct 26, 2013
But as mankind is never satisfied, alot of persons still won't believe Qur'an is detailed or explanatory enough. Qur'an spoke about these kind of persons.(Qur'an 18:54). These people are not satisfied with GOD 's details and want more.

As a lecturer, when you ask your students to just write and essay. They ask for more details like; "how many pages or words, should it be written or printed?". And more questions for details arises. They make the simple homework tasky for themselves.
Also when GOD state dress code for believers they ask for extra details. They ask; "which colour is best for men,and which for women?". When commanded to perform salat, zakat or fast, they ask; "at what age should our kids start salat, zakat or fasting?". When they don't find the answers to their questions in the scripture, they say "Qur'an doesn't explain everything. They are being feeble minded and such persons can't understand Qur'an.

The Isrealite did the same thing. Asking too much for detail and they nearly failed this test ;Qur'an 2:67-71.

The jews even today believe the Book of Moses was an overview or summary of GOD 's revealation, that it doesn't explain everything. GOD denied this(Qur'an 7:145)

Qur'an 5:101-102
GOD warn us about asking for extra details outside his Scripture; Qur'an. And that He left out such details due to His mercy. HE tells us asking for such detail equal to asking for burdens which eventually may turn us to ingrates or disbelievers. However, mankind including most muslims, have failed to learn from their history or GOD
Islam › Re: Ten Misconceptions Among Muslims by usermane(op): 4:07am On Oct 26, 2013
01:
QUR'AN IS A SUNMMARY/OVERVIEW OF GOD 'S REVEALATION TO MUHAMMAD

Before we begin to trash this misconception lets take note

Qur'an 2:02,12:01
Qur'an verses are clear, specific, certain, and doubtless.

Qur'an 6:21, 7:182
Those who disagree with GOD 's verses are wicked and will be losers.

Now shall we get to work?
Qur'an 6:114,7:52,10:37,12:111,16:89,41:3
Qur'an isn't fabricated, it isn't summary, it is infallible, fully detailed explanation of everything

GOD condemn those who disagree with the above verses(Qur'an 6:39)

GOD mean from all the above verses that Qur'an entails all the bits, pieces, hints and examples believers need and can thus be studied independently by the sincere.

GOD reveal His scriptures as trial for man. When GOD tests us he equip us fully first, so we have no excuse to fail. GOD thus, won't reveal His scripture, written down but leaving out details in the mouth of fallible men. GOD records His scripture wholly in writting before His messenger dies, leaving out non of his revealations unrecorded, in the hands of men with the risk of getting mixed with fabrications or falsehood to mislead the righteous. This is GOD 's pattern as THE MOST JUST.
Islam › Re: Ten Misconceptions Among Muslims by usermane(op): 3:56am On Oct 26, 2013
As a result, most of them do not uphold the Book of GOD. And GOD describe such people as donkeys carrying a pile of books(Qur'an 62:5)

They prefer to be spoon fed by scholars, clerics, sheikhs and mullahs. Though few of these clergy above may be okay, the Qur'an criticizes those who take their words for it(Qur'an 9:31) and warn believers of the dangers of the clergy in general(Qur'an 9:34). How do a non muslim get to appreciate Islam when the Qur'an recitation from the speakers of a nearby mosque is in arabic. How do i listen and pay heed to a recitation that i don't understand(Qur'an 7:204).

With this misconception, it is no wander why the ummayads and abbasids enforce arabic exclusively in the non arab kingdoms they conquered, why the ottoman chiefs banned printing of Qur'an with death penalty. It is no wonder why before 150 years back, translating Qur'an was a taboo.

Those who hamper, the translation of Qur'an and encourage reading arabic Qur'an over translated copies are guilty of concealing GOD 's revealations. And GOD promises them severe retribution(Qur'an 2:174). Qur'an should be translated in various language for everyone. Qur'an is not mean for arabic speakers or muslims alone.

Now, if you(muslim) are out there, and can't recite arabic Qur'an. Don't worry. Get a translated copy, seek GOD 's protection from satan(Qur'an 16:98). Recite at your own pace with critical thinking. Don't expect to get everything over night in one read, you have to go cover to cover many times to become much familiar. It is a gradual but rewarding process. Ask GOD to increase you in understanding(Qur'an 54:40, 20:114). You may ask some persons on where you are stuck, but be objective of what they tell you. Don't stick permanently with only one translation, go through other translations too to check few translation errors. Careful with translations found in google although you can find real good ones there, whose hard copies are out of your reach.
