Romance › Who Should Be Taller - The Man Or The Woman by valkaka(op): 1:14am On Oct 22, 2014
Of course I know there are no should here. We are all born with our different heights and our hearts will find love where they will. But let's just discuss this in a spirit of fun and no offense to anyone. Most women want a guy who is taller than them, and the reverse is the case for men, they want petite women, at least compared to them.

The Yoruba I hear, as part of traditional engagement, have the man showing he can carry or lift his fiancee. A friend of ours, male, says that in a couple, the woman should not be seen when she hides behind the man. Interesting way to think about it, I guess. I've heard some tall girls bemoan the fact that they only seem to attract shorter men. Some of them accept it and the men gladly, what is height anyway? Others hold out for their dream of a guy they can look up to, or who they can comfortably rest their head on his shoulders.

But what of the other side of the story? When the woman is either a lot taller than the man, or becomes taller whenever she puts on any type of heels. Are you of the opinion that such tall ladies should always be in flats? Do you know of any couples like that? Are you in one of such?

But what of the other side of the story? When the woman is either a lot taller than the man, or becomes taller whenever she puts on any type of heels. Are you of the opinion that such tall ladies should always be in flats? Do you know of any couples like that? Are you in one of such?

Romance › 6 Characteristics Of Most Awesome Girlfriend Ever by valkaka(op): 12:05am On Oct 15, 2014
1. She is honest

Every guy appreciates his girlfriend being an honest person. Moreover, most men like things to be told straight so that they don’t have to question or guess what the girl means. Honesty leads to trust - the basis of any relationship.

2. She is fun and friendly

We love the ones who can make us smile and enjoy every moment spent together. Thus, if the two of you have a similar understanding of the word "fun", doing these funny activities together can make you even more attached to each other.

3. She is loyal

Neither women, nor men like to be cheated on. Jealousy is a feeling capable of destroying the most passionate love. To avoid the break-up don't flirt with other guys, just make him know you can be trusted.

4. She is loving out loud

It doesn't mean you need to tell your man every five minutes how much you love him. Just remember to let him know that you care about him. Believe it: men are extremely sensitive, and he will appreciate this move.

5. She is not needy

Guys love independent girls, who have the lives of their own. Getting all your attention concentrated on your man is not a good idea. Meet your friends, find your hobbies when a man enters your life. Make it all balanced...

6. She thrills him with spontaneous adventures

Watching TV together is fine, but not every singe day. We all need some rock-n-roll in our life from time to time. It can be something as simple as going to a new restaurant to try foreign food you’ve never tasted. It is up to you to chose the best option for you two.

Romance › How To Please Your Man Without Sex by valkaka(op): 5:00pm On Oct 10, 2014
Many suggestions on the topic of pleasing a man are geared toward improving performance in bed. There's nothing wrong with bringing new things into the bedroom, but there are other rooms in a house that hold their own kind of pleasures for men. Women who make an effort to determine what brings a smile to their man's face may be surprised to learn that men enjoy intimacy on other levels, just as women do. Understanding this dynamic is helpful when trying to determine how to please your man without sex.

1. React to his suggestions in a positive way. Discuss things that may improve his ideas and increase the chances of them succeeding. View this type of interaction as another form of intimacy.

2. Call him during the day and ask what he'd prefer for dinner. If he's not sure at that moment, suggest he should have some time to think about it and call back. This brings delight in the freedom of choice. Prepare that meal or dish in a way that might rival the best restaurants.

3. Engage in social activities that include both of you, such as window shopping or playing board games with neighbors and friends. Appreciate his sense of humor in social situations. Many men find it pleasing when they bring a smile to another person's face.

4. Bring him a refreshment or a snack while he's in the workshop or garage. Express an interest in his approach to crafting things or fixing something around the house. Being supportive of his male-oriented activities can make a man feel appreciated.

5. Buy him something new to wear, such as a shirt that flatters his physique or a hat he may enjoy wearing with his friends. Select a CD album or DVD that you know he'll enjoy. Express an interest in the performance of his favorite sports teams and encourage him to talk about them with you.

Tips and warnings

* Listen to the suggestions in his conversation. Ask about his friends and family. Use your instincts to determine other things that please him.

Romance › Why Do Men Cheat On The Perfect Girl by valkaka(op): 3:38pm On Oct 10, 2014
There’s an old saying that goes something like this, ”Find me the perfect girl and I’ll show the man that’s tired of [sexing] her,” and boy is it one of the truest statements I’ve ever heard. When you think about the recent barrage of celebrity divorces it makes you wonder. I mean, we are still scratching our heads about Halle and Eric, but haven’t we seen enough to let us know that men just continue to cheat on the “perfect” girl.
Although I’m not sure, I came up with a list of reasons why I think this happens. I can say that every woman I’ve ever dated I thought was perfect at the time, but I didn’t think she was the absolute end all of the female gender. However, here’s some reasons why men cheat on the “perfect” ones…

Some men are constantly enabled in their environment.

For example, athletes. Someone asked me how Tony Parker could cheat on the beautiful Eva Longoria, and I had no problems in answering that question. I go out a lot and I hang out in the same places as the Wizards, Redskins, and even the Capitals … groupies are invested in their looks and they LOOK GOOD. And all these good looking women are constantly in a baller’s face trying to give it up, regardless of the fact that he has a wife. His wife may be beautiful, but there’s plenty of dimes in the club.

Never discount that a man has his own issues and demons.

There are some men with destructive tendencies. If you know your man well enough, you probably know that. I know that some women won’t let their men go 45-60 minutes without calling or texting because they know he has issues with focus. And there are guys who are in fact addicted to ***; or even a bad drug habit can lead to risky behavior against their loved ones.

Keep in mind that “perfect” is relative.

My definition of perfect is completely different than the next man’s. And when we say perfect, especially when we talk about celebrities, we’re usually thinking about looks and the characters they play on TV. We don’t know who they are in real life and behind closed doors. I know myself, my perfect girl doesn’t have to be the most beautiful woman in the world, but she needs to fit with my twisted personality. I think that when I say perfect it speaks more to that person’s compatibility to another. Keep it real, what’s wrong with Jennifer Aniston? She seems perfect, but yet she’s always getting her heart broken. Maybe we don’t know Jennifer as well as we think we do.

To follow up on that, a man has to find the woman that’s perfect for him. Going back to talking about compatibility, maybe it’s not such a good idea for two people who are busy professionals to be together because they won’t have time for each other. Maybe the guy is truly a momma’s boy and needs to be coddled; that guy is not going to work well with an independent woman. She simply won’t want to take care of him.
Truth be told, I don’t think the reason men cheat on the “perfect” girl is because she’s not perfect, I think it’s because he hasn’t decided himself that he wants to be the perfect man, or at least try and be that way. If a man is going to be a dirtbag, it doesn’t matter who he’s with, he’s never going to stop being a dirtbag. If a man is striving for greatness and wants to give it 100 percent, then he won’t cheat. It has nothing to do with how perfect or imperfect she is. A man who doesn’t want to cheat loves his woman imperfections and all.

.....Love is enough to sustain any relationship....

...Love comes with several packages.....When there is genuine and true love, you ignore and understand the flaws in each other.....It comes with trust, faith and believe in each other, deep understanding, etc....

....It must come from both sides.....It is easier and sweeter when both sides are truely in love.....It is easier when it is not one-sided......It is easier when they both understand the true meaning of love....
i think all that will be possible if there is money.i think Love would have been enough to sustain a relationship, had we still lived in the 15th century. These days it's all about money. Love has been relegated to the back seat when it comes to relationships. To sustain a relationship you need Money and Stability then may be love. Walk to a girl with your broke ass and tell her you're in love and see if she will be willing to hear you out.

People go to all lengths to “protect” and “maintain” their relationships including consulting psychics, “jujumen”, mallams, you name them to obtain charms. Some people drink and wash their genitals with all sorts of concoctions, they place charms under their beds and/or in their rooms, mix their “victims” food with powdery stuff, etc.

Do these charms really work like they are supposed to?

How far can you go in “twisting” someone’s mind to conform to yours for him to be at your beck and call?

Is it just fiction or a part of african folklore?

u also have to remember but the word "love" that is used in today's society actually points to possession, want and the likes ..... i will call that conditional love ..... but if u are talking about unconditional love then yes that is more than enough and can and does sustain everything at a macro level

statistics are what other people have chosen to make real.

TV/Movies › Many Nigerian Actors Live On Past Glory—ramsey Nouah by valkaka(op): 1:51am On Oct 07, 2014
Nollywood star, Ramsey Noah, exposes some of the realities confronting many Nigerian actors, writes Jayne Augoye

After a phenomenal rise to global fame, Nollywood celebrated its 20th anniversary recently. At other times, the occasion would have been marked with much partying, probably round the year. But things are far from being rosy for the industry at present.

Many challenges, including piracy, absence of structured distribution networks and a string of scandals trailing some of its star players, are threatening to rob the industry of its glory. While these issues are not new, they have taken a toll on the fortunes of some actors and actresses

Over the last few years, the effect of the dip in Nollywood’s fortunes on some practitioners, especially the pioneers, has become a subject of debate and concern for stakeholders.

Before now, a good number of the screen stars found consolation in endorsements by corporate organisations, especially telecomunication companies like Globacom and MTN. But the business world is fast shifting its love to musicians.

Although some of their fans have come to realise that Nollywood movies ‘no longer sell’, a number of these stars, who themselves are obviously experiencing hard times, cover up by constantly hyping themselves.

But Nollywood star, Ramsey Noah, has burst their bubble.

Noah, whose acting career kicked off when he starred in the Nigerian TV soap opera Fortunes in the 1990s, is saying it as it is for the first time.

The actor was one of the panelists at the recently held Nigerian Entertainment Conference. He did not mince words when painting the true picture of the situation in Nollywood.

He says, “Many Nigerian actors live on their past glory. The truth is that many of us (actors) don’t make money from film-making or movies any longer. There is the show part, but there is actually no business side to Nollywood any longer.

“Many of these actors depend on and make their money from acquaintances. So, they simply depend on those who appreciate their works and then introduce them to other sources of income aside acting.”

The actor whose Globacom endorsement deal was terminated in 2013, alongside that of Rita Dominic, Uche Jombo, Mike Ezuruonye, Monalisa Chinda, Nonso Diobi and Odunlade Adekola, adds, “Some people who appreciate you for who you are and for your talent will then try to establish business links that can sustain you and your family.”

Judging by the number of factions that currently exist in Nollywood and the current leadership tussle within the Actors Guild of Nigeria, it is not difficult to tell that the actors are somewhat divided amongst each other.

Noah appears to confirm this when he notes, “The truth about creative people is that they lack unity. It is very hard to find unity among them. It has nothing to do with Nollywood, in particular.

“In Nollywood all you have is the show part but not the business. We lack structure. There is no balance. It is almost as if we sold our birthrights to the wrong people. Nollywood is capital — intensive and we are aware that improvements are needed, but we lack the structure to make this happen.”

Even as The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has approved a 12-man committee of Nollywood stakeholders (this will pave the way for Nigerian entries to be considered for the Oscars in 2015), Nouah is optimistic that the future is not entirely bleak for Nollywood.

He says, “Hopefully this digital era will bring about positive changes in the outlook and technology of some of our movies. I would love the situation where creative minds put the right structures in place for the industry and then things will get better.

“I suggest that the Federal Government should impose heavy taxes on DVDs/VCDs producers so as to curb piracy. There is a need for the right structure, in addition to marketing and promotions, to propel Nollywood.”
Education › Education Is Overhyped This Days. by valkaka(op): 9:25pm On Oct 06, 2014
Education is very important don't get me wrong, but I think it's sometimes over emphasized, having a masters degree or a PhD does not guarantee success in life, just as having the same PHD nor masters degree does not guarantee food on the table if you are a girl who dosnt know how to cook.the genesis of all this generation is that people are over hyping education this days,i have seen lots of people boasting about their certificates infront of their fellow friends who are into business, the funny thing is that those people are still jobless.DO NOT GET IT TWISTED,aint saying that education isnt important afterall am an undergraduate student.i think what equips you instead are experiences, start up ventures and the risks you take and above all how close you are to God.... What am advocating for is that do not let the attainment of degrees be your sole judge of intelligence or ability, either for your self or for others.Because It's not by the amount of certificates in ur safe, success is a function of a creativity mind, a strong desire 2 succeed and good fortune.Afterall most of the richest men on the planet do not have certificates.

just be aware that lots of people are graduates for years now without a job.
Nairaland General › 8 Reasons Why Your Worst Enemy Is Yourself by valkaka(op): 6:15pm On Oct 06, 2014
We all experience those moments of self-loathing, unrelenting frustration that stems from our own hands. We also seem to hit a wall every now and then, question the road that we’re on and maybe have a quarter and/or middle life crisis. It’s not entirely inexplicable.

Indecision, self-doubt, lack of confidence or motivation are all byproducts of our inner villain. We don’t need to demonstrate a Dexter-complex to know that we can be the number one cause of our own failures and downfalls. Fortunately, there’s a solution: we just have to be aware of this monster inside of us, understand its game plan and overpower its demoralizing voice.

So, what do you need to know? Listed below are 8 reasons why you, of all people, are your number one worst enemy, along with how you can overcome, well, yourself.

1. You Don’t Manage Your Expectations

There’s an ambitious, starry-eyed voice that guides you. Even louder may be a voice of complete impracticality and unrealistic hope. Don’t get them confused.

It’s good to expect a lot of yourself, great to forecast good things coming your way. However, if you walk into every situation with an expectation to gain the most out of it, you’re going to almost always come out of it feeling unfulfilled. If you set ridiculous goals for yourself – say, you’re going to sign up for that gym membership and commit to a workout every second day after work – you’ll either burn yourself out and crash or let go of the commitment and experience some measure of having failed yourself.

This becomes especially dangerous when you mismanage expectations that are outside the sphere of your control. Expecting others to act a certain way, expecting your boss to reward you in the near future or your favorite sports team to win the championship – you have little to no control over these matters and will experience devastation if things don’t work out your way – all due to the mismanagement of your expectations.

Make sure that you set realistic goals for yourself – don’t bite off more than you can chew. Understand that you don’t control things outside of your own sphere. Look towards, but don’t expect, that next raise or promotion. Be realistic. If we expect to get everything, we’ll be left feeling unfulfilled; if we don’t expect much, we’ll be left feeling content with what we’ve gained.

2. You Fail to Appreciate the Small Things

We don’t have much time on this little blue rock that’s hurdling through the universe, but that’s no excuse to rush through life and only focus on the big things that seem to matter. You want a car, a house, a good job, a loving husband or wife, two kids and a dog. Or cat. That’s all fine, but in the pursuit of these goals we fail to take a second and appreciate the smaller things around us. The aroma rising from a cup of coffee in the morning, the cool breeze that follows a rainfall on the hottest day of the summer, the peculiarity of a cloud. Even the small things you do and achieve on a daily basis matter.

One of the fundamental goals in everyone’s life is to have a pleasurable time here. When you begin to appreciate every little thing before your eyes, on a day to day basis, you’ll undoubtedly feel enriched. The trick is to keep up with it, as concerns or problems will always bog down our mind and distract your attention.

This becomes especially important in the context of our own success. If we fail to appreciate the small things that we accomplish, we’ll begin to lose a sense of self-respect. If you’re constantly worried about landing that new job, not realizing that you’ve learned to become a master of living on a tight budget in the meantime, then you’re overlooking something that can provide you with a feeling of self-respect. If you find yourself having to bike to work because you need a new car, appreciate the benefits towards your health. It requires a degree of optimism, but taking into account all the good things you do on a small scale helps build your confidence, motivation, and self-respect.

3. You Take Too Much For Granted

Similar to the point made above, this quality of your inner enemy is by far the most pervasive. Every now and again we’ll donate to a charity and count our own blessings, or witness someone close to us experience a tragedy that will result in our own feeling of grat!tude for not having to go through what they’re going through. Why aren’t we doing this every day?

If you’re reading this then you’re somewhere with an internet connection, likely with a roof over your head and some time to spare. When was the last time you stopped to truly appreciate your circumstances? And why should we even bother?

When you don’t take things for granted, you simply squeeze more out of life. We always hear, ‘kids in Africa…’ but do we really take time to stop and think of how privileged we may be in the midst of all our complaining? Whether it’s our health, our abilities, the love from friends and family, our hobbies, our freedom from outright tyranny or war-like conditions – we all have something that we can be truly grateful for.

4. You are Your Own Worst Critic

Don’t get me wrong – it’s good be a strict judge of your own character. The problem arises when you take it too far. When you constantly criticize and find faults with what you do and who you are, you’ll never reach a necessary level of satisfaction to be truly content with yourself.

If you tend to judge yourself too much, you effectively hold yourself back; if you sell yourself short, you’ll never experience the full value of your potential. Get to know this voice that criticizes you, try to understand where it comes from and why it is that you listen to it. Don’t beat yourself up over every mistake – after all, experience through mistakes is a perfectly sound method of learning. Constantly over-criticizing yourself will hold you back, hamper your confidence, and make you dwell on things that may not even matter.

5. You Over-an*lyze

Another characteristic of human nature – we over-think absolutely everything. We can go around in circles, contemplating solutions that aren’t necessary, relying on assumptions that are ultimately false. There’s a struggle between our mind and our instinct, our brain and our heart. We come up with an initial answer to a problem, then over-complicate the matter and do a complete 180. But, it’s good to think things through, is it not?

While it is important to think carefully about certain matters, over-thinking them can prove detrimental. For instance, if your next job interview leaves you with a bad feeling (say, you know that your boss would be a real pain to work under), and you instinctively say no, your rationality may eventually override the decision and lead you to take the position because of the other benefits that surround its acquisition. Before you know it, you’re stuck in a miserable circumstance for eight hours a day, later realizing that it’s not worth those benefits.

To avoid unnecesary over-thinking? Trust in your instincts, break problems down and don’t put too much emphasis on idealizing all the potential implications of every decision when a simple pro/con list may suffice. Ensure that you’re not basing decisions upon misled or faulty assumptions – our mind will mistakenly fill in certain blanks to ascertain a desirable answer.

6. You Prefer the Easy Way

When life gives us lemons, why should we bother to make lemonade when we can just go out and buy it? Short cuts are a way of life, and though they may be a necessary time saver, they detract from our sense of working towards something – earning it.

Working towards something affixes a certain meaning to it, develops your sense of appreciation and contributes to the great sense of accomplishment at the end of the road. Your inner enemy holds you back; if you never go the extra mile, you’ll never experience the extra rewards that may come as a result. You can’t expect full results while using only half the effort. It’s in our nature to avoid inconveniences, but oftentimes they’re called for.

Next time you have to go well out of your way to complete a task or help someone, just do it. Ignore the lazy voice in your head and agree to take the hard way once in a while. You’ll learn a lot about yourself.

7. You Assume

Projecting certain assumptions onto certain situations can be disastrous. Our brain works to fill in the gaps however it can, forming answers on faulty presumptions if necessary. If you assume your spouse is mad at you for something you may have done, it’ll lead you towards developing a defensive stance or counter-attacking when no concern may even be warranted. Don’t assume that someone may be mad because XYZ happened when you’re unaware of ABC. We make this mistake countless times, all because we subconsciously fill in the blanks with answers that are incorrect.

To prevent this, you have to understand your train of thought. Don’t place your own standards on others, moral or otherwise, as everyone is different and thinks a different way. Rely on valid facts, not just assumptions, before deciding on a particular course of action. Understand that you may not know the full story behind everything you’re involved in. Many times, we must rely on nothing but an assumption – just don’t invest too much into the outcome when you’re dealing with unknown circumstances.

8. You Doubt Yourself

The cliche piece of advice that every parent gives you. And for good reason. Self-doubt is, in itself, unwarranted. If you’ve failed at something and ultimately doubt that you can do it, it’ll only prevent you from progressing. Oftentimes, self-doubt may just be an unwillingness to do something.

There’s a difference between self-doubt and low expectations. Low expectations may lead to a sense of pragmatism, whereas self-doubt may force you to neglect your potential; the former doesn’t hamper your effort whilst the latter certainly does.

Under no circumstances should you ever doubt yourself. When it comes to your potential, realize that the sky is the limit. Use your sense of realism to evaluate the consequences of your action – don’t just pessimistically assume that your action will have unfavorable consequences. Take this time-tested piece of cliche advice into consideration. -
Health › 10 Habits You Must Quit To Be Happy by valkaka(op): 6:01pm On Oct 06, 2014
When you quit doing the wrong things, you make more room for the things that make you happy. So starting today

1. Quit procrastinating on your goals.

Some people dream of success while others wake up and work hard at it. Action and change are often resisted when they’re needed most. Get a hold of yourself and have discipline. Putting something off instantly makes it harder and scarier. What we don’t start today won’t be finished by tomorrow. And there’s nothing more stressful than the perpetual lingering of an unfinished task.
The secret to getting ahead is simply getting started. Starting, all by itself, is usually sufficient to build enough momentum to keep the ball rolling. So forget about the finish line and just concentrate on taking your first step. Say to yourself, “I choose to start this task with a small, imperfect step.” All those small steps will add up and you’ll actually get to see changes fairly quickly. Read Getting Things Done.

2. Quit blaming others and making excuses.

Stop blaming others for what you have or don’t have, or for what you feel or don’t feel. When you blame others for what you’re going through, you deny responsibility and perpetuate the problem. Stop giving your power away and start taking responsibility for your life. Blaming is just another sorry excuse, and making excuses is the first step towards failure; you and only you are responsible for your life choices and decisions.

3. Quit trying to avoid change.

If nothing ever changed there would be no sunrise the next morning. Most of us are comfortable where we are even though the whole universe is constantly changing around us. Learning to accept this is vital to our happiness and general success. Because only when we change, do we grow, and begin to see a world we never knew was possible.
And don’t forget, however good or bad a situation is now, it will change. That’s the one thing you can count on. So embrace it, and realize that change happens for a reason. It won’t always be easy or obvious at first, but in the end it will be worth it.

4. Quit trying to control the uncontrollable.

If you try to control everything, and then worry about the things you can’t control, you are setting yourself up for a lifetime of frustration and misery.
Some forces are out of your control, but you can control how you react to things. Everyone’s life has positive and negative aspects – whether you’re happy or not depends greatly on which aspects you focus on. The best thing you can do is to let go of what you can’t control, and invest your energy in the things you can – like your att!tude.

5. Quit talking down to yourself.

Nothing will bring you down quicker than berating yourself. The mind is a superb instrument if used right, but when used incorrectly, it becomes very destructive. Be aware of your mental self-talk. We all talk silently to ourselves in our heads, but we aren’t always conscious of what we’re saying or how it’s affecting us.
As Henry Ford once stated, “Whether you think you can, or you think you can’t, you’re right.” One of the major causes of why we fail is due to self-doubt and negative self-talk. The way to overcome negative thoughts and destructive emotions is to develop opposing, positive emotions that are stronger and more powerful. Listen to your self-talk and replace negative thoughts with positive ones, over time you will change the trajectory of your life. Read The How of Happiness.

6. Quit criticizing others.

The negativity you bleed out toward others will gradually cripple your own happiness. When you truly feel comfortable with your own imperfections, you won’t feel threatened or offended by the imperfections you see in other people.
So stop worrying about the flaws you see in everyone else, and focus on yourself. Let the constant growth and improvement in your own life keep you so busy that you have no time left to criticize others.

7. Quit running from your problems and fears.

Trust me, if everyone threw their problems in a pile for you to see, you would grab yours back. Tackle your problems and fears swiftly, don’t run away from them. The best solution is to face them head on no matter how powerful they may seem.
Fears, in particularly, stop you from taking chances and making decisions. They keep you confined to just the small space where you feel completely comfortable. But your life’s story is simply the culmination of many small, unique experiences, many of which require you to stretch your comfort zone. Letting your fears and worries control you is not ‘living,’ it’s merely existing.
Bottom line: Either you own your problems and fears, or they will ultimately own you.

8. Quit living in another time and place.

Some people spend their entire lives trying to live in another time and place. They lament about what has been, what they could have done, or what might become. However, the past is gone, and the future doesn’t exist. No matter how much time we spend thinking and lamenting about either, it doesn’t change anything.
One of life’s sharpest paradoxes is that our brightest future hinges on our ability to pay attention to what we’re doing right now, today.
We need to live more in the moment. Living in the moment requires active, open, intentional awareness on the present. Don’t fantasize about being on vacation while at work, and don’t worry about the work piling up on your desk when you’re on vacation. Live for now. Notice the beauty unfolding around you.

9. Quit trying to be someone you’re not.

One of the greatest challenges in life is being yourself in a world that’s trying to make you like everyone else. Someone will always be prettier, someone will always be smarter, someone will always be younger, but they will never be you. Don’t change so people will like you. Be yourself and the right people will love you, and you’ll love yourself more too. The Road Less Traveled.

10. Quit being ungrateful.

Not all the puzzle pieces of life will seem to fit together at first, but in time you’ll realize they do, perfectly. So thank the things that didn’t work out, because they just made room for the things that will. And thank the ones who walked away from you, because they just made room for the ones who won’t.

No matter how good or bad you have it, wake up each day thankful for your life. Someone somewhere else is desperately fighting for theirs. Instead of thinking about what you’re missing, try thinking about what you have that everyone else is missing. -

Romance › 4 Friends Every Man Must Have by valkaka(op): 3:04am On Sep 23, 2014
Life as a Nigerian, you will agree with me is a ‘challenging’ one as a man.

From having to go through school with the heartaches of strike actions (if it is a public university), to exuberant school fees whether it is private or public, to getting all your results ready for service year, plus the rigors of the compulsory National Youth Service Corps and the grand father of them all, getting a good job or starting a private business on your own.

The list is endless…worries about Boko haram, ebola, getting promoted at work, or managing a great relationship that you will lead to marriage. You will agree with me that without great friends, navigating beautifully well without great friends can make a life miserable.

Everyone needs friends to walk the journey of life with. Some are actually just friends for specific occasions (office buddy, lesson buddy, lunch buddy or giving a ride to work buddies), while others may blossom into family. Unfortunately it’s almost impossible to find one friend that meets all your friendship needs.

Even the creator knew one man cannot be good all alone by himself, hence the creation of the second ‘man’, Eve. Howerver, here are four kinds of friends you need to have as a man so as to make life in Nigeria worth living.

The Social Buddy

You necessarily do not have to be a party crawler with this person. But you will agree with me that a little of this here and there will be a great idea. After working your ass all day/week long, having a great time with friends over a bottle of cold drinks would really not be a bad idea, or will it? This person also make you stay in trend with some important trends in the social terrains, except if you’re some ‘anti-social’ person, that is when this person will not work for you in Nigeria as a friend, but believe me, you need to stop your office-home-church routines! Add some colors to your life.

The Confidante

He is someone you can talk to and you will not be ashamed to do so. This person is someone you feel secured telling anything…without the fear of you being stabbed at the back. However, these kinds of people are rare but trust me, when you have one, some of your life issues will be eased. Like the saying goes: A problem shared with the right person is a problem half solved, having someone to talk to about everything makes you feel better.

The Big Brother

He is necessarily not older than you but in experience, he is. He is always has an example to relate every situation with, hence his prompt and profession help.

The Critic

You will agree with me that before a gold is called a gold, it would have passed through fire so many times before it comes out as nice as we get the finished product. Many a times, we do things that we might not know needs adjustments or needs to be done in a better one. That is why you need a critic. You need someone that will tell you plain blank, things you do not want to hear. And believe me, you are on your way to getting better when you take out time to have this people around you.

However, do a check on yourself, do you think you have these four types of friends?

Romance › Girls, Ladies: You’re Perfect The Way You Are by valkaka(op): 1:14am On Sep 23, 2014
Spent part of my morning watching music videos on YouTube

Meghan Trainor, Iggy Azalea, Ariana Grande

I usually don’t read the comments when I’m watching the videos, because as most of you know, when anyone can say whatever they want online, they do!, and a lot of it is more often than not silly worthless blather…

Wow! Irony smiley

The comments I read, and it was no more than a dozen comments that I read for each artist, were overall shockingly negative with more than a handful of those comments about the physical appearance of those girls.

I’ve seen in the past how cruel girls can be to each other with hateful comments, and people in general can be ridiculously insensitive with personal remarks towards and against other people; but the anonymity of the internet seems to allow certain kinds of people carte blanche to say some of the most vicious and hurtful things.

When accomplished young ladies get hyper-criticism about their physical appearance, I don’t think the biggest reason is because of the fame and success these girls are having. For hundreds, perhaps thousands of years, women and their beauty and attractiveness have always been held to very strict standards

Men have always had standards too about what physical characteristics are used to determine whether they are handsome and attractive or not. Most of us are just too lazy and clueless to know what they are or care much about what those standards are smiley Usually, though, throughout recent history, the main factor in determining a man’s worth as a man or as a person for that matter, has been his ability to provide.

So many young women, talented, intelligent, capable women being judged not by who they are, but what they look like?!; and some, perhaps many of these same young women, and many others are equating their value as a people based on how they measure up to the arbitrary standards of beauty and attractiveness.

Attractiveness is an attitude, not what you look like or what you don’t look like. If someone is critical of your appearance, best to ignore that sorry excuse for a person. If ignoring is not an option, you can say, I’m sorry your life is so empty and void of any meaning that all you can do is find false fault in me. That sounds a little more articulate then STFU smiley

But seriously, girls, women, ladies out there, you’re beautiful and perfect just the way you are. What you believe about yourself is more important than what anyone else says or thinks about you. Good family, good friends love and support you and encourage you to be the best you that you are capable of being smiley

The more you repeat something to yourself, the more likely you are to believe it! So repeat every night before going to bed, and every morning when you wake up:

“I am beautiful and perfect just the way I am!”
