Politics › Re: English Translation Of The Boko Haram Leaflet Been Circulated In Kano by vanstanzy(m): 8:58am On Jan 21, 2012
For some reason, i feel if government never attacked these people in the first place, they might not just have become this violent. The killing of their leader under Yar'Adua is what has brought us to this point. The arresting and killing of their members only fuels their rage and our security forces aren't capable of dealing with them. At this point, sitting down to dialogue with these people might be more reasonable, to prevent any further loss of lives. Am sure govt can pacify these people without necessarily meeting all their demands. Just an opinion.

Finally: removing subsidy is not a silver bullet that solves our economic problems. And there is a huge trust deficit that government has to address. Government needs to investigate subsidy payments and punish any violations of extant guidelines. It needs to cut on unnecessary and waste ful expenditure. It needs to fight corruption and show seriousness in that. It needs to deliver on capital projects, power and infrastructure including irrigation, farm-level storage and agri-processing. These are all valid issues that are to be taken IN ADDITION to and not in place of subsidy removal.

[b]@SLS
Well said and sorry for the insults whoever threw them at u. AS LONG AS THERE'S CORRUPTION IN THE SYSTEM, NOTHING WILL WORK. IN CASE U DONT KNOW, NIGERIANS HAVE ALWAYS KNOWN THERE WAS HIGH-HANDED CORRUPTION IN THE SYSTEM BUT NEVER HAD A GOOD OPPORTUNITY TO FIGHT BACK UNTIL NOW, THANKS TO PRESIDENT JONATHAN's RASH POLICY ON SUBSIDY REMOVAL. ONCE AGAIN, WELL SAID BUT WE NEED PHYSICAL THINGS ON GROUND NOW, NOW! E DON TOO MUCH FOR UNA! BECIDES WHY IS PRESIDENT JONATHAN SO MUCH IN A HASTE? HE HAS THREE SOLID YEARS TO END JUST FIRST TERM ALONE.
GOVT OFFICIALS HAVE TOLD US THEY WOULD SLASH THEIR SALARIES. rooster AND BULL! LET IT ALSO REFLECT IN NIGERIAS' CONSTITUTION SO THAT IT'LL BE LEGALLY BINDING EVEN FOR FUTURE GOVT OFFICAILS. THINGS HAVE BEEN WRONG FROM THE ONSET AND JUST CAN NOT BE CURED ALL OF A SUDDEN, EVEN WITHOUT FIGHTING THE MAIN CAUSE AND PUTTING A STRICT LEGISLATION IN PLACE. AM TALKING OF A SOLID CONSTITUTION, WE HAVE ALWAYS CLAMOURED FOR A SOVERIGN NATIONAL CONFERENCE BUT NEVER GOT ONE, NIGERIANS AN OPPORTUNITY PRESENTS ITSELF NOW.
FINALLY, AM OF THE BELIEF THAT THIS CONSTITUTION GIVES ROOM FOR STEALING PUBLIC FUNDS INDISCRIMINATELY. IF NOT, HOW ON EARTH CAN IT ALLOW LAWMAKERS FIX THERE OWN SALARIES AND ALLOWANCES? IN FACT, WE MAY NEED A PEACEFUL REVOLUTION BEFORE NIGERIANS WILL HAVE A SANE SOCIETY. POLAND HAD IT WHY NOT US?

P/Harcourt refineries to work at full capacity by November – NNPC

Port Harcourt refineries would begin to work optimally from November after a Turn-Around Maintenance (TAM), the NNPC has assured.

Mr Philip Chukwu, Group Executive Director (GED), Refining and Petrochemicals at the NNPC gave the assurance on Thursday in Port Harcourt during an inspection of the refineries alongside officials of Maire Tecnimont, the contractors which the Federal Government engaged for the TAM.

Chukwu who decried the lack of maintenance of the twin Port Harcourt refineries in the last 12 years, commended the Federal Government for engaging the original constructors of the refineries for the TAM.

“Everyone knows that the refineries have not been properly maintained over the years and we have had to manage things. What we are doing now is to have the TAM and complete rehabilitation of the refineries by the original contractors,’’ he said.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the two Port Harcourt refineries which consist of the old refinery with capacity to process 60, 000 b/d and 150, 000 b/d, respectively, had been functioning at very low capacity with the old one not working at the moment because of lack of maintenance.

Chukwu explained that the TAM, which would start in October, would require a total shut down of the plants for between 45 days and 60 days to ensure a thorough job.

How long will the statement which was made by elites against us as being "A Bunch Of Cowards" be affirmed?
This is very annoying, we are just in day 5 of the struggle and some agent of destruction, who for d fact that dey can afford to buy PMS @ N141 even up to N200, are already complaining of boredom at home.
Listen carefully, this is a fight we must win - There is NO GOING back. Do you know that the Egyptian sacrificed so much before the oppressors succumb? Do you think it happened on a bed of Roses? Gentle men, if you are bored, choose from the different options below:-
1) You can trek to Ojota (Gani Fawehinmi Freedom Square) and join us.
2) You can sit in d comfort of your homes and watch us live and keep re broadcasting any message associated with d on-going strike. *beer*
3) You can jog or take a stroll with your immediate environ or keep fulfilling the commandment of God - be fruitful and multiply(If u r married). These are "kuku" one form of exercise or d other./smiley
4) You can take cyprigold/cypron/super appette and sleep off till March. If u r still bored 3-|
5) Finally you can trek to Cotonou - Benin Republic and denounce Nigeria.
Its high-time Nigeria let go of cowards like you, who for d enjoyment of today's pourage - sold not only his birth right but also his conscience! >:O#gbam#>:O.
This message is to strengthen and encourage loyal Nigerians like us and to talk some sense into weak and lazy Nigerians like those who won't forward dis mssg!
It's NOW or NEVER!!

Labour union should only agree to a proposal that holds this govt accountable. It's not only about reversing it back to N65 but ensuring this Govt. keeps its promise to

- A 20% reduction in subsidy starting in April 2012 and for the next 5yrs. Yearly increment will be tied to tangible implementation of projects in key areas: completion of refineries, building of roads, Improvement in power supply etc.  For instance, if by April 2013 an agreed upon project is not completed then Govt cannot increase prices.

- Cut in salary for all Federal elected officials. 25% cut in basic salary and 50% cut for all other allowances. Plus a firm commitment to cut wasteful spending in the budget. Allocating N18.5 billion for Aso Rock is a prime example.

-  An independent investigation into the N1.3 trillion subsidy for this year and overall oil subsidy regime. Forget that Senate investigation; that's just show and tell. I just don't know who can handle this

- Reject any palliative measures. We don't need that crap. This is only for Jonah and his boys to chop money

This is the way to go; if not this govt will come back in 2yrs or 3yrs and  tell us the economy is collapsing and they need to remove oil subsidy
