Nigeria Liberty Forum in London has begun a massive Facebook campaign against "Emperor" Sule Lamido. Led by Kayode Ogundamisi, the UK-based protest movement has asked Nigerians on Facebook to bombard the Facebook page of Sule Lamido in order to force him to drop the charges against Mukhtar with immediate effect. Mukhtar's father, Mr. Ibrahim Aminu, a former House of Assembly member in Jigawa, recently left the PDP for the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN). To protest Moukhtar's detention: Lamido's FB Groups page http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=67151009377 Send An Email to Sule Lamido & tell me what you feel about him: http://jigawastate.gov.ng/contentpage.php?id=255 |
Jen33:dummy, I'd like to believe you have the smallest brain cells, you started the apple to guava comparison, i merely pointed out facts in history. I can't even believe I am even joining issues with someone who feels Nigeria is any better than Egypt at handling citizen unrest. . , . .that's really dumb sir, really dumb! |
That's why I like Naija. We know how to manage this sort of thing better. It would never have come to this in Naija. If it's in Naija, nothing go happen. We once had a President {now late}, who while in a vegetative state, his wife controlled and held a population of 150 million people to random, till date, no one dare ask who signed the budget, all we are good at is to dust our árses and hope say "one day, in go beta" |
RUBBISH, in which court do you want to secure a conviction against this fellow?I don't think the case is ever going to get to trial. It's however, very likely that the guy is remanded in prison awaiting trial for another 7 years. |
In another development, the state Commissioner for Justice Barrister Tijjani Inuwa Dutse has applied to take over the case from the police. Standing before the court for the Attorney General, Barrister Muhammad Lamin told the court that the Justice Commissioner was empowered by section 211 of the Nigerian Constitution to take over any case from anybody and or stop it entirely. This makes it all the more revealing! The commisioner for Justice is employed by the state governor, and yet no one is smelling a rat still. I fear once the commissioner is granted the authority over the case, the dude's file will probably be thrown somewhere in the back shelf, never to be seen again. . . and the dude will await trial till thy kingdom come. So much for freedom in one's country, i can't even insult a daft Governor. . . shior! |
babasoty:read this again Mukhtari Ibrahim Aminu, the man arrested and arraigned before a Magistrate Court in Dutse for allegedly insulting Governor Sule Lamido of Jigawa State on Facebook has been remanded in prison till February, 7, 2011. The prosecution counsel, SP Peter Amedi, told the court that the accused person had on February 19, 2011 posted an abusive text message insulting Governor Sule Lamido on his facebook page, hence, defamed the character of the governorThere is no where in the article where the prosecution counsel had mentioned that the accused person had threatened the governor, the dude is simply being punished for insulting the power drunk Governor! |
POTUT:here's what i call rational thinking! |
@googles you rarely come online again this days, why is that? |
googles: |
^^ careful, you could get the Police knocking down your door!. . .This is Nigeria! |
^^^ To tell you the truth, the opinions i get from this forum, seemingly denominated by educated folks, is largely surprising. Little wonder the men in black whose call is to serve and protect continue to harass and intimidate Nigerians in their daily lives. The educated ones of the society don't even know their rights. You can imagine someone thinking it's right for the Police to arrest an individual just for the case of slander should we also expect the police to arrest citizens whenever claims on patents are being made? damn! a young man is being intimidated and people here think it is right, this is really disturbing! |
babasoty:The duties of the Police is not to always arrest! . . . .damn! . . . . Nigerians! what you do in a case of slander is to establish a civil action through your legal representatives in a court of law through a written petition. The court then issues a summon to whatever party is involved to defend the claims of petition made against him. In this case, the governor abused his office by using the police force to intimidate the dude. I suspect the dude, not knowing much about the laws of the federation and being unable to hire a lawyer is charged under a penal code that will ensure that the Judge sees enough reason to remand him in prison. And here is the catch, the guy's case might just be forgotten for another 8 years. So much for insulting the governor. and painfully, Nairalanders feel this is right, damn! |
@Skyblue hmmm, one minute he condemns the political objectives of a man and tagged him as being one of the sons of turmoil The next minute he's welcoming a handshake to be run side by side with the same man. one wonders how much of integrity is left in this individual, and how much of it we ought to expect from him given that he's capable of changing his mind faster than i can type on Nairaland. “One of the truest tests of integrity is its blunt refusal to be compromised.”------Chinua Achebe quotes |
I am glad everyone is ignoring a numpty headed poster in one of the posts above. good sign folks, fóols should never be encouraged on a forum like this! |
Nigeria has adopted the Chinese style of governance. What next? Facebook might just be banned entirely across the country! |
Lmao! such a shame really. Our country might never see the generation of men who will stand firm by their words. |
she's right here with me, under my sheets! |
I have always known that those expensive fake Chinese products in the hands of incompetent youth corpers would be the sole driver of a massively rigged electoral process. Hurray! |
Beaf:From the quoted article, the man was arrested and then remanded, and i lay it bare that those two are likely to be on the orders of the governor. If you sue someone, they normally don't get arrested, instead, they are instructed via a court order to appear before a magistrate with their legal representatives, which should normally be the case in every civil action scenarios, such as slander! This is just a Nigerian without the money or influence to fight his case. Apparently, our courts require that a citizen has both, else, he might be behind bars for a very long time. A classical animal farm story, in Nigeria, the governors are demi-gods who should never be insulted. shior |
Beaf:Freedom of speech is the freedom to speak freely without censorship or limitation, or both. If the Governor feels a case of slander has been committed against his person, the right thing he should do like any other law abiding Nigerian is to get his lawyer to sue the other party, NOT to use his influence to get him locked up!. . .They are two different things. This is by no means a case of assault, and in all probability, i doubt the guy in question threatened the governor, why then is he locked up behind bars for making his opinion known on the web? If it had been someone like Femi Otedola who said the same thing to the governor's face, would he have gotten him locked up as well? This is just one of the many cases of "i will show you who i am" mentality that is eating deep and causing rot in the Nigerian Judicial system, the rich and powerful have a different constitution from the poor and weak. . . . .and really, who cares if he's in the same league with Fashola in terms of "miracles". . .what is being established here is that he's abusing the powers and influence that comes with his office, . . Stupid governor, there, i said it! |
This flagrant display of powers and abuse of office should be condemned in any society that has solid plans for growth on a forward looking basis. Conviction of the guy in question will make a total comic of our democracy, why should we claim to have rights to freedom of speech if a governor of a state can decide to use the powers of his office to prevent such? Everyone has a right to his or her own opinion, and as long as the contents of the message is not a classified "hate message" then all authorities in question are merely dancing to the tune of the power drunk governor at the expense of democracy. If everyone who insults a governor or president ought to be arrested, half of the USA should be in Guantanamo by now. Should we now live in a society where we all become dundees, lest the governor feels insulted? and what more? i question why the guy was arrested and detained in this case, the governor, if he feels insulted ought to sue the dude, not get him arrested, this is just plain barbaric, you don't deny an individual his freedom of movement simply because you feel what he said is insulting, this is not the 1800s! |
Pardon my sense of humor, i do get queer whenever my coffee comes late, that said, i don't think this is in any way depressing, as a matter of fact, i sort of find it hilarious. |
Someone introduces death penalty to stop people from pushing drugs, and a Nairalander in her rational way of thinking, believes this should be branded an atrocity. Smh @ the way people think |
Kobojunkie:I think your assumptions and expectations are far too stretched in this case. Most Christians, using myself and many of my friends as appropriate case study, have an unwritten understanding that politics and Christianity should never mix. I believe this opinion is shared by many others, and can be well inferred from Chris Okotie's case studies. |
smh, welcome to Nigeria |
^^ seriously? |
otokx:Is the military not a part of the Army? ![]() |
The smart ones will rather stay in Egypt than come home to Jos, afterall, soldiers don't have a "fire at will" order in Egypt! |
Critics don't make good politicians! |
I can't believe that people just readily accept this as an American setup simply because "some eyewitness" crawl out of nowhere! By implication, we are saying this rich dude who's got everything to lose decides to blow up his balls just to make the US happy? to what motive, pray tell? |
^^^^ Are you kidding? my inclination towards grammar is part of Nigeria's problem? now that's some hilarious stuff!. . . i bet it should also be responsible for Jos riots and shocking poverty rates across the country. What's wrong in expecting that a former CBN governor expresses himself in a coucher, more responsible manner when addressing public issues or even private issues in the public? It does look as though everything that was written in that article was penned by a distraught secondary school economics major during class break, not some economics professor who once occupied one of the highest governmental offices. |
Aganga's appointment is a misleading attempt to fit a round peg in a square hole. The dude has an impressive background having graduated from oxford and held positions in Hedge Fund management, but as a minister of Finance, what you need is an in depth well rounded background in Economics, NOT banking and Finance. However, i consider it a shameful thing that a former CBN governor could write in a careless brazen manner as though the letter was addressed to his mistress. such a shameful thing indeed! |
