Since you didn't specify whether good or bad, I will tell you one thing he did.

He closed land borders and price of rice shot up, local rice became available at higher prices, custom duty on imported goods shot up without any incentives to local manufacturers or producers.

He failed to devalue the naira because he doesnt trust financial expert advise, eventually the naira became more useless than before, local manufacturers or producers depending on imported raw materials find it difficult to access forex from cbn- who prefer to offer forex at a cheap rate to family and friends

I'm not a psychologist, so I may not be able to do justice to this topic to your satisfaction but I think the origin lies in simple biology. When more than one species of living things are in direct competition for resources that are limited within a defined space, all sort of shenanigans come into play and only the fitted survive. Survival strategies differ from species to species, but since human is the only species with language and speeches, these tools are bound to be part of the survival repertoires. By theory of use and disuse, our forefathers have been using words to rouse sentiments from time immemorial towards personal gains, aims and objectives. Enough of my far-fetched, unproven jargons. I sha hope you get my drift.
I partially agree with you base on these:
1. The southerners, irrespective of the tribe, abuses and tarnishes the hausa fulani because they hold on to power the southerners wanted
2. The minority tribe in the north: plateau, benue, taraba, Borno, Adamawa doesnt like the the hausa fulani because of their overbearing influence in the cause of surviving.
3. The igbos and yorubas being the majority tribes in the south wants to dominate the southern part of the country , in the quest for power and economic benefits they are always bitter with each other.
4. The minority tribes in the old eastern and western regions also have grudges against yoruba and igbos due to their overbearing influence in the cause of surviving. Ijaws, Efik, ibibio to the igbos while Edos, urhobo and ijaws to the yorubas.

I am only trying to reason along with you

The Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo, has said that simple geographical restructuring is not the problem with Nigeria.

He said that prudent management of national resources and providing for the people properly were better ideas for Nigeria’s development challenges.
Laolu Akande, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Office of the Vice President, communicated Mr Osinbajo’s view in a statement in Abuja on Monday.

The vice president was fielding questions from a cross-section of Nigerians at a town hall meeting in Minnesota, U.S., on Sunday.

Mr Osinbajo spoke on a wide range of issues covering the economy, anti-corruption, health, agriculture among others.

According to the vice president, the problem with Nigeria is not a matter of restructuring.

He said that Nigerians must not allow themselves to be drawn into the argument that Nigeria’s problems stemmed from some geographical restructuring.
“It is about managing resources properly and providing for the people properly, that is what it is all about.

“I served for eight years as Attorney General in Lagos State and one of the chief issues that we fought for in Lagos State was what you call fiscal federalism.
“We felt that there was a need for the states to be stronger, for states to more or less determine their fortunes.

“For example, we went to court to contest the idea that every state should control, to a certain extent, its own resources; we were in court at that time up to the Supreme Court and the court ruled that oil-producing states should continue to get 13 per cent derivation.

“While we were at the Supreme Court only the oil-producing states and Lagos were interested in resource control, everybody else was not interested in resource control for obvious reasons.

“Now, that is the way the argument has always gone, those who have the resources want to take all of it, while those who do not have want to share from others.”
He said that Nigeria must create the environment that allowed for people to realise themselves economically because that truly was what the challenge was with Nigeria.

Mr Osinbajo said that unless Nigerians were able to deal with the fundamental questions around corruption, their economic circumstance would keep going one step forward, two steps backwards.

“All that we have been able to deal with is grand corruption. When we started the TSA, the whole point was to aggregate all of the funds of government that were in private banks.

“So, we put all of the money in the central bank so that we could at least see the movement of money and by doing so, we were able to save 50 per cent of the corruption that was going on then.”

Relying on OPEC statistics on oil revenues accruable to Nigeria under successive administrations between 1990 and 2014, the vice president said not much was done in infrastructure development in spite of the huge oil revenues earned.
He said that under the Babangida/ Abacha administrations (1990 – 1998) Nigeria realised 199.8 billion dollars.

Under the Obasanjo / Yar’Adua governments (1999 – 2009), the country got 401.1 billion dollars; and during the Jonathan administration (2010 – 2014), Nigeria got 381.9 billion dollars from oil, Osinbajo said.

“The question that we must all ask is that what exactly happened to resources? The question that I asked is that where is the infrastructure?

“One of the critical things that we must bear in mind and see is that this government despite earning 94 billion dollars, up until 2017, we are spending more on infrastructure and capital than any previous government, so we are spending N1.5 trillion on capital, that is the highest we have spent since 1990.”

In the area of agriculture, Mr Osinbajo said that the target was to attain self-sufficiency in the production of rice, tomato, among others.

According to him, the government is doing a lot of work in agriculture as it has increased local production such that Nigeria is no longer spending five million dollars daily on rice import.

“Today, we are doing 11 million metric tonnes of paddy rice and are now importing only 2 per cent of what we used to import,” he said
Being tribal sometimes make people look stupid.

Yorubas has been in the forefront of the restructuring struggle, the igbos wanted a separate country.

Restructuring is to change the structure of the existing system in whatever means.

Afenifere, ohaneze, middlebelt and south south wants the country to be restructured geographically.

The VP opinion is that apart from the south south other states will still be dependent on the stronger states hence the clamour for resource control by each state

I don't know which is better I just want the poverty in the country to reduce. Some of my friends we graduated together since 2009 are still struggling to feed although am financially ok but am not happy.

OP, tribalism erodes the brain!!!

I actually followed this thread from beginning especially when I saw d cost of seed and without blinking I think its not really worth it, I mean d seed , there are other seed companies that are cheaper with good results like premier seed and many others and in fact I tried some local seeds and d results were also incredible.
Although d local seeds I used I treated them with apron plus and the seed its self was looking great and d results is also good
I doubt if you planted the local seeds using 25 × 75cm spacing.
Try it and see how it will perform.

OPV are strong but the yields are low compared to hybrids.

I am starting to think that these exotic seeds are heavily overhyped! Cost so much and yield so little. I bought two of these expensive seeds and also foundation seed. The foundation seed that cost me less than the 2 premium seeds was the one that produced best of all three.

Just imagine!
Bros please don't judge hastily.
I followed this thread and he quoted 2 people who had 6.5 tonnes and 4.7 tonnes from thesame seed.
Someone quoted 8.5 tonnes
I called pioneer seed representative and he said their yield is 5 tonnes above.

I have tried foundation seeds and I can authoritatively tell you that it is not better than premier seeds.

There must be something he did not do that others did!

When he said at 6 weeks it has already tasselled then I knew something was wrong. If the maize is not stressed then it should tassell around 48-55 days.

Agronomic practices is key.

Planting OPV maize is the simplest and you get good yield but low quantity but this hybrids are very difficult if you don't do something right then you are doomed!

I feel you. But certainly, what applies in the US will not apply here in Nigeria, abi? Farming techniques (mechanisation, etc) I can accept but the seed in particular should also matter. The other thing I heard is that some farmers don’t buy the right seed out here and don’t apply the right amount of fertiliser
High yield maize requires a very high fertile soil or enough fertiliser application

My Experience

I cultivated Oba super 6 from Premier seeds on the two farms. I noticed that the seeds were so tiny compared to what is sold in the open market. But for a first time maize farmer, the joy of cultivating hybrid seeds was unspeakable.

As I mentioned earlier, those with manure grew better and the cobs were okay but there wasn't really anything spectacular about the size of the cobs when I compared the sizes with that of a nearby local farmer who cultivated seeds bought from the open market. In fact, some of his maize plants were carrying 3 - 4 cobs at the same time.

I was forced to ask him of the type of hybrid maize seeds he planted. He just laughed and said, ' No be hybrid be dis'

I have come across two to three maize farmers who used premier seeds at first and vowed to use open market seeds in the subsequent plant season.

This got me wondering.

What if I purchase open market maize seeds, treat the seeds to avoid loss before germination, apply fertilzers the same way I will do to an hybrid seeds. 'WILL I GET A BETTER YIELD'

Mind you, most of the maize seeds you find in our open markets are imported from Benin republic. It's possible their variety of maize seeds isn't hybrid but open pollinated. Their yield is impressive

No fresh maize buyer will pay you more for cultivating hybrid seeds. They will only pay more depending on the sizes of your maize cobs.

At the end of the day, you find a modern farmer who has spent a lot of money to procure HYBRID seeds selling at the same price with a local farmers that bought his seeds cheaply from the open market. That is obviously a loss to the modern farmer

I am not against farmers using hybrid maize seeds, but do we have other hybrid maize seeds in the market apart from premier seeds? I am not impressed by the yield gotten from premier seeds.

Pls drop your opinions. Thanks
Is it the ogadep maize?
I have only seen it in ogun state
To be sincere, that maize is amazing with very big cobs.
I asked an agric officer about it he said the maize is an opv and it cant be planted with high population. Although nobody has tried it.
2 kg goes for 800 naira.
It is almost thesame with size with the pioneer maize shown below. If 12.2 kg of pioneer maize goes for 37k and 12kg of ogadep goes for 4500 and it is almost thesame cob size, is that not a mystery?!

I didn't suggest 13 bags per hectare what I said is that your planting population determines the quantity of fertilizer to be applied.

Again as someone rightly said fertilizer application depends on the fertility of your soil.

Thanks once again

Thanks for your response and explanation. It is always good if two experienced people discuss.

According to research I made, applying Nitrogen based fertilizers during planting is almost like wasting fertilizer. What plants need initially is phosphorous for root development.

Fertilizer can be applied thrice or even 4 times but due to cost of labor applying 2 times will yield thesame result as applying 3 or 4 times.

For a 75-80 days maturing maize breeds apply at 2 weeks after planting and 4 or 5 weeks after planting.

For 85-days and above maturing maize breeds apply at 2 weeks after planting and 4,5 or 6 weeks after planting or thrice 2wks , 4wks and 6wks.

I applied 2 times and my maize is extremely excellent
AgricultureRe: Pioneer Maize Seed by vonxe:

Your concerns are legitimate. However, fertilizer requirements are best based on soil tests and planting history. If the soil is fertile enough, he might not need to add as much fertilizer as you've indicated. In any case, harvest is near; we'll see the results in HD.
You are right about the soil test. But how many Nigeria farmers do that? The fertilizer rate calculation I showed is the minimum for a maize plant to reach its potential.

Let me tell you a real practical example:
I planted maize on an acre of land which has been used just twice since it was cleared meaning it is close to a virgin land
That was the first time I used a 25×75 spacing. The local farmers around me were making jest of me, telling me my spacing is narrow and the maize yield wont be good I ignored them. I applied 1.5 bags of npk since i believed the land is close to being a virgin land.
The local farmers who gave their plant much needed spacing, because they had to intercrop with cassava, had better plant, big and sturdy while mine was thin and fragile. I was ashamed go to farm for harvest because I had made mouth that their method is obsolete and mine is the modern way. We got thesame yield despite my plant population is 3-4 times their plant population. I later learnt they called me "alakowe ti o mo way" meaning "an educated literate who doesnt know anything".

I started making calls to experts and reading more just to prove them wrong not because I wanted profit or make money but just to redeem myself (ego issue). That was when I came across the fertilizer rate calculation. It is a safe haven for farmers without conducting soil test. I came across a lot of things like importance of manure over inorganic fertlizer, importance of foliar fertilizer etc.

I did it again now but instead of using 25 × 75 spacing I decided to use 25×60 spacing just to prove to them I was right all along. I used 5.5 bags of npk 20:10:10 on just one acre I apply foliar spray plus pesticide every two weeks. My plants are big, my plant leaves are shining and deeply green, no any coloration on the leaves despite the huge rain.
The local farmers now said it is only the rich that can get plant this kind of maize but I got my respect back.
The problem is that the breed I used is not high yielding reason i picked interest in this thread!
AgricultureRe: Pioneer Maize Seed by vonxe: 12:25am On Oct 25, 2019
The mistake people make about foliar spray/fertilizers is that it provide the nutrients the plant needs. It is wrong , the best uptake is through the roots, apply your major nutrient through the roots and micro nutrients can easily be taken through the leaves

Soil pH affect uptake of nutrients through the root, foliar application enables the plant to absorb all the nutrients it needs.

Non virgin lands without topsoil are deficient in some micro nutrient application of foliar spray enables the plant to get the micro nutrients.

How many Nigerian farmers measure soil pH before planting?
Let us endeavour to use foliar spray in ADDITION to the npk or urea?
Don't let any marketers deceive you, foliar fertiliser alone cannot give you what you want.

May God bless your farm. Amin
I have some questions and advise
What plant spacing did you use?
Is the land a virgin land?
You planted in July, how did your plant fare during the August break?

1. I think your fertilizer application is not enough. 3 bags of npk is not enough for even a 30000 plant population talkless of 50-70k
2. You did not use any insecticides some of the leaves were bad in the pics.
3. Intercropping other crops with maize is not a good idea. Although legumes are good source of nitrogen but they compete phosphorus and potassium with the maize.
4. Please endeavour to use a foliar spray for micronutrients. NPK are the major nutrient what of other important micronutrients which may not be available in your soil.

I believe the yield will definitely improve if these are taking in consideration.

Note.
2.25-2.4g of nitrogen is needed per plant
For 50k plant population
50000*2.25 = 112.5 kg of Nitrogen needed

1 bag of Npk 15:15:15 is 7.5kg of N; 7.5kg of P ; 7.5kg K
1 bag of Npk 20:10:10 is 10kg N ; 5kg P; 5kg K
1 bag of urea 46:0:0 is 23kg N

For 50000 you need a minimum of :
8 bags of npk 15:15:15 and 3 bags of urea
Or 12 bags of npk 20:10:10 only applied twice, 6 bags per application

Premier seeds is a NO NO for me.

Nigeria problem had been large and complex, they are mostly cost by nigerians themselves one of these problems is tribalism, will I would be sharing tips on how you can leave at peace with other people not your tribe
*Get your fact right:don't just jump into conclusion that everyone from a particular tribe are bad and evil just because u heard something about that tribe, always remember that all humans are unique in their own way and varies in their actions, never use the wrong doing of someone to rub others from that tribe
*Avoid belittling other tribes:this is what led to ww2 when aldolf hitler taught the German race where Superior to others and as a result millions died from this and the scars and memories still linger on. u see, never make improper or harsh and cruel remarks about other tribes whether it is a joke or not as this may lead to acrimony and distrust among individuals thus leading to ethnic hatred and u as a person is also responsible in your own way in promoting tribalism
*let love lead:always see others as humans and love them genuinely as you do to your self in this way u can erase the evil mark tribalism had made Nigerians turn into and u will be genuinely happy. don't prejudice or make ethnic consideration when in position to give a favor always pick merit over sentiments all the times
Remember u are a Nigerian:as the saying goes a divided house can not stand. If u blow up the flames of tribalism and hate then u are a problem of this country. if tribalism is allowed to turn Nigeria into a warzone and Nigerians into the combatants. remember we have no other place to call our country while other nations would laugh at us no matter how rich, influencal, popular and sociable accross the world u are home is home and u can't change that fact
ALWAYS LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOUR AS YOUR SELF
