Politics / Re: So Ojukwu Ran Away With His Mercedes And His 3 Tons Of Luggage. Damn. by VoodooDoll(m): 7:54pm On Aug 28, 2012
That article highlights a serious lack of leadership qualities. How tragic for the innocent children and civilians to be abandoned, and blown up, at their hour of most need.

I now understand, better, why Ojukwu struggled to win political office on his return.

Politics / Re: Stay In Bauchi For Seven Years And You Become Full Citizen-yuguda To Non Indigen by VoodooDoll(m): 9:26am On Aug 26, 2012
This indigene/non-indigene issue in the Federal Republic of Nigeria always has me stumped. I understand that the host community must be respected and protected for peace purposes but these governors do talk clap trap often. Can anyone explain?

- How does one confer "rights" on citizens, that the citizens already have or should already have?

- Under what power does the governor bind future governors to protect these "rights"?

- If there is a Federal law on the issue, which law prevails Federal or State (or even customary law/sharia)?
Politics / Re: Are The Yoruba The Number One In Religious Tolerance? by VoodooDoll(m): 7:31am On Aug 25, 2012
In my limited opinion, Yoruba culture is communal, with an emphasis on social harmony.

Individual rights are respected but the communal goal of harmony and progress supersedes those rights. This is both good and bad.

Good because communal harmony stops one group from dominating another, bad because if the goals are incorrectly set then there will be challenges.

In Yoruba towns, historically, compounds were concentric with the most vulnerable (women, children, elderly and handicapped) in the centre. The vulnerable ones in the centre may not even be related.

The tolerance means that if an individual is a raging fundamentalist (Christian, Moslem, Ifa or other), he/she will find himself/herself isolated or cautioned with continual reminders from elders, siblings and peer group that
communal harmony must not be disrupted. Disruption will see the individual isolated/ex-communicated until a reconciliation is effected.

The Petrol Subsidy thieves stole via their companies not personally. But we all know it was personal wealth and accounts that got fatter.

Okupe should go back to sleep and stop insulting himself.

Politics / Re: Fani-Kayode: Yorubas Won The Civil War For Nigeria by VoodooDoll(m): 11:29pm On Aug 14, 2012
If Nigeria disintegrates expect the following battles:

Battle 1 OFFSHORE) Sao Tome and Principe, Cameroon, Benin republic, Equatorial Guinea and Gabon will claim territorial rights;

Battle 2 ONSHORE) Groups and regions will disintegrate. The GEJs, OBJs, Dokubos, Dasukis, Sanussis, El Rufais will flee and leave the masses and their children to kill each other;

Battle 3 Mercenary warfare) Shell, Chevron, etc will hire mercenaries to guard their assets with "revenue" for Nigeria kept in trust in UK and US banks while Nigerians starve; and

Battle 4 Guerrilla warfare) Where regions meet or intersect expect cross border invasions leading to nasty child soldier wars and all the evil that comes with it.

REPEAT AFTER ME:

SHORT SLEEVE OR LONG SLEEVE (google it if you don't know what that means)

I say again, let's focus on the clowns in charge, and have a grown up and mature conversation on our terms of nationhood, our democracy and the way forward.

Meanwhile our children are dying of malaria, mothers are dying in childbirth, schools are decaying but the soldiers are getting FATTER, with Boko Haram is still murdering at will. Jonah doesn't even consider them as "terrorists"!

An old goat talks rubbish, a less old goat retorts on Facebook of all places and so called intelligent people make a storm out of it.

No region owed any favours to any other region. Chaos happened and opportunists tried to gain advantage, some won, some lost. The people paid with their lives.

Fact: the military elite in the 60s fell out with each other;
Fact: there was a war;
Fact: the war was won and lost;
Fact: we are all still poor and enchained by the military elite; and
Fact: we still prefer to insult each other rather than squarely face this military elite.

Item being rebutted: http://saharareporters.com/news-page/northern-muslim-elders-reply-asari-dokubo-go-and-read-your-history

QUOTE FROM FEMI FANI-KAYODE

I went through this and I must confess that the Elder from the north that spoke called Alhaji Usman Faruk is talking absolute nonsense and he has got his history completely wrong.

It was the 98 per cent yoruba Third Marine Cmmando under the command of Brigadier General Benjamin Adekunle that liberated the mid-west and the southern minorities from the igbos and NOT the north.

Secondly the north literally begged Awolowo not to declare Oduduwa Republic and go the way of Biafra even though that was his original intention.

Thirdly if it hadn't been for Col. Obasanjo (as he then was) in Ibadan the Biafran forces, under the command of the gallant yoruba officer Col. Banjo, would have entered and swept into the west at Ore and the war would have been over very quickly. They asked for safe passage and Obasanj refused.

Fourthly it was the support that the south west gave to the north that allowed Nigeria to win the war. Fifthly it was the lie that Gowon and the northern leaders fed to Awolowo that he would be made President of the country after the war and after being effectively being made de facto Prime Minister under Gowon during the war that got Awoloo to support them.

Had it not been for that strong support from the yoruba and particularly the efforts of the third Marine Commando who pushed the Biadfrans out of the mid west, the south south and back into the east and who evenually went into igboland, occupied it and took the surrender of the igbos, there is no way that Nigeria could have won the war. No maer what sid of the divide we are on in this matter we must get the history right. The arrogance of Faruk is sickening.

GEJ should give it to someone who is loyal to Nigeria. I don't think Dasuki's loyalty lies in Nigeria.

@ Bilyonaire

No sentiments involved. We all learn everyday, I personally learn all the time on Nairaland. Sometimes good things, sometimes bad.

The link below and attachment is the 2012 budget (http://www.budgetoffice.gov.ng/2012_budget_pro_details/37.%20Summary_NSA.pdf):

You will see that the Office of National Security Adviser alone has been allocated N32bn. If the post was merely advisory, that's a lot for "hot air"?

Billyonaire: This rumor is not true. Dasuki is a Security Adviser, his role is advisory and is limited to that.

You think Nigeria's National Security Adviser post is merely advisory without an "agency", officers, equipment and resources?

Pedestrian cross roads or Zebra crossings don't work in Lagos oh!

If it is a state or federal road the appropriate government should fix it ASAP.

This is stereotyping.

Nigerians of all ethnic groups have committed crimes all over Nigeria. Shouldn't we just say "passengers attack Okada operator?"

If it was a full on Fulani multitude attacking then the headline could fit, not for an isolated incident.
